This movie was heavily overlooked in the movie industry. Derek should of gotten some award nominated. For this to be one of his first and biggest roles. He surely did not disappoint.
How do we expect abused kids to be normal and behave like normal people. Lesson I learned from this: dont judge others, even if they did bad things. Sad and beautiful movie.
Marzy Art sounds about right and there’s all diffeent Kinds of abuse too . So no abused kids aren’t gonna behave like normal kids because the abuse triggers something in them mentally
Because there are some abused kids who, despite all odds, learn to behave normally. People look at these exceptional examples and think that anyone can overcome terrible experiences without a lot of hard work, and accuse those who can't of laziness and making excuses. It's a lack of empathy and ignorance of human psychology. I think it's also because people want to believe in the "underdog" so badly, or accept the old school "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" mentality. It's wishful thinking and a way to falsely empower others without having to acknowledge that it's not that easy for many of us.
Until that hurt person hurts others then the sympathy is gone, right? because when that abused kid grow up to be Richard Ramirez or R. Kelly we're a little too far gone by that point, right?
this scene broke me down to crumbs especially the way he said he didn't know what to do because I've said that soooo many times in life and the way the suttle piano just eased in at that exact moment just added to the saddened feeling of hopelessness the film was powerful.
Going through a bad divorce as we speak. She Will not Stop Until she ruins me. But you know what I realize yesterday? She can take everything from me Accept for my 14 year old amazing daughter, As much as she has tried throughout this whole thing. This year has been a nightmare for me. People will have no idea but Don't give up easier said than done. I hear your brother 🙏🙏🙏 1:25
I've said that many times in my life while in tears "I don't know what to do." I was raised by a highly abusive family and it effected my decisions as a child, teen and adult. I'm almost 30 and I'm so exhausted.I starting to want to change my life for the good finally.
I pray that God would give you peace, true peace, that you won't even be able to understand or comprehend. I pray that the love you felt you didn't receive as a child, you would begin to feel the pure love that God has for you. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, you can be free, spiritually and physically free. I thank God for the healing that you are about to feel. You are loved, so loved, I pray that you would begin to believe this. In Jesus' name, amen
@@ibukundada3426 Thank you so much for that comment! It really means a lot to me and couldn't have come at a better time because as of right now in life,I have been trying to better my relationship with Jesus. I lost faith for a while and turned my back on God but I came back to Him. It's been hard but I'd rather struggle on a path to God than not not do it at all😊

That’s why healing should not have limitations on it. Yeah he got 3 sessions…. But he needed so much more and was caught between a rock and a hard place.

I love this movie y'all, it took my heart away. Yet even though I felt so much pain watching this it was great. Made me realize how grateful I am. Made me open my eyes. Realize that im lucky.
Iny opinion the Doc sees he's made things worse for Antwan by getting him to open up to him. Antwan is in a state of Flux, Denzel has made him deal with stuff he's buried deep, never knew how to deal with it it in the first place.
He was filled with so much anger from what he went through as a child so he didn't know how to deal with it , I can relate to all of this I endured the samething he went through

I've watch this movie before and promise myself I wouldn't watch it again. For that, I completely forgot how it went, because it gave me major panick attacks. I've heard that our mind can protect us by letting us forget something happened, never knew it would happen to me. Anyway, I don't think I can handle this movie again.😢
lol... In the real navy, he would've gotten a deep asschewin' for talking out of line like that... Then again, most sailors don't give a fuck! (I didn't when I was in SVC)
Doubt it...he's not a line officer. That was always a weird gray area for me because they're literally only commissioned so the government can pay them less, lol.

Derek actually won an Independent Spirit Award for Best Actor for this. But he should have been A-List status off of this role IMO.
I cry every time he reads that poem
Well I hate to state the obvious but we all know why he didn’t get an award unfortunately ✊🏿
Absolutely true. He gave an extraordinary performance.
100%
Luke is underrated as hell. For his first big role, he killed it.
To bad he blew his knee out and can't play football anymore. 😅
It’s amazing the amount of knockout films Denzel put out in such a short amount of time.
