It would be naive to think this was just Ukraine. It's also the NATO militaries advising left, right and centre. Somebody, somewhere, looking at satellite photos of the places, told the Zelenski military that the fortifications on the Russian border looked distinctly poor compared to the ones now in place in the Donbas region in Ukraine. Add to that the change of heart and the permission to use NATO weapons on Russian soil and maybe F15 coming online, and well, this makes sense. Why try to go through it when you can just go around?

Russia had the initiative in 2022 when they invaded using shear force of numbers to embed themselves. Hence last summer, the Ukrainian offensive was stalled due to minefields and trenches. Now Ukraine has invaded Russia. No extensive minefields to cross. Just like Pregozhin, I believe that the Ukrainian forces could make extensive incursions into Russia with only conscripts and worn out military to try to halt them. The field is theirs for the taking assuming logistics can keep up.

    • @MaxnPow
      @MaxnPow 2 месяца назад +2

Actually Russia had the initiative in 2014 when they first moved into Crimea. They probably could have taken the whole country then without firing a shot.
I would not say the same for their 2022 efforts. They stranded several battalions on their road to Kyiv, by forgetting the importance of supply logistics, namely food and fuel. Russian troops walked 40 miles back to border.
With all that said, the guy on this interview is a clown. Yes Ukraine is surprising and making impressive pushes. But Russia still has many more resources at its disposal, demographics in their favor. It’s still Russia’s war to lose.
The overall goal is not to conquer them overnight, but to bog them down and force them to burn through their military resources.
War not at a tipping point. Will go on for years.

Exactly. I also don’t know why they keep acting like Russia has the capacity to recapture 1000s of square kilometers of their territory that will be in Ukrainian control as the result of the invasion.
Russia’s minimal progress in Donetsk which has taken nearly an entire year at massive cost in men & material to make is being called “decisive” by these same analysts. Ukraine has captured over twice the territory at minimal cost in ONE WEEK.
Why would Russia, using primarily a conscripted home army, be capable of retaking captured areas of Kursk in a reasonable time frame? The answer is they wouldn’t.
Any offensive action taken by the Russians since the early days of the war has been lumbering, minimally successful, and unsustainably costly. Any operation to recapture Kursk oblast would be the same.

Again on the side of the Ukrainians too, though it's a great advancement but must be manage properly by monitoring it's surrounding at all time most especially their Military satellites to continue updating the defense team deployed there or else they may end up loosing men power there. On the topic of whether or not Kyiv intends to or is able to hold this Russian territory "long term", many analysists seem to miss the fact that within about a month or six weeks, this area of the world will become exceedingly wet, muddy, and mucky. This will make it all but impossible for either side to utilize heavy equipment and armor effectively on the battlefield, creating a period of some relative safety for Ukraine as it will be far more difficult for Russia to dislodge those troops. As such, Kyiv may only need to hold this territory for another month or two in order to create the conditions whereby the territory is able to be held into the wintertime. This wet weather certainly won't last until the American inauguration, but it can give Kyiv a respite as well as shorten and split up the timeframe that Moscow has available to attempt to reduce this incursion prior to the inauguration.

This gentleman is trapped in a defensive mindset. His first comment about the Kursk offensive is about holding on to the gains, his comment about the F-16s is that their best use is as a deterrent, and his comment about Russian attack aircraft is that they won't risk getting shot down.
Ukraine demonstrated a couple things in Kursk
    1. The tank is not obsolete.
    2. Striking fast and going deep behind enemy lines will gain real estate and yield lots of prisoners.
    3. In this war one nation is good and the other is a collection of war criminals.
I'm disappointed in this offensive. I had hoped in would head south and visit destruction on Russian supply lines and rear echelon assets.
No war is ever won by defense.
