Just watched a compilation of songs from the first movie. “Can’t Stop Singing” definitely contains the core premise in its lyrics and he might recognize the song from all the Tick Tocks that use the sound, but “Surf Crazy” contains the characters figuring out the plot of the movie and they spell it out a bit more. All that said, I don’t know how this reaction did not contain “Can’t Stop Singing” I would think that is the most popular song from the movie. Though watching the compilation, I realize I may have never seen this movie in its entirety.
The TLDR of the story is that 2 teens accidentally end up in the world of their favorite movie, Teen Beach Movie, which is a parody of older beach movies. That's why everybody can dance and sing and they just do it out of blue and why the songs are so cheesy

But in this movie, there's a big villain who fakes being British, and with the help of an evil scientist he wants to create a big storm that will rust the biker's motorbikes and prevent surfers from surfing. He wants to raze the restaurant to build a giant building complex. In Teen Beach 1, Mack (the girl) and Brady (the guy) are trapped in this movie (which is the favorite movie of Brady and Mack's grandpa, but she doesn't like it). They will change the course of the story by hazard, and will try to get it like it should be. At the end of Teen Beach movie, Mack tells Lela that she shouldn't let people decide what she should do, and that she can do as much a the boys. The plot of the second movie is that Lela doesn't feel like she belongs to the movie anymore because she wants to do more, and this time it's her and her boyfriend who go to the real world. They meet Mack and Brady who want them to return to their world, where they belong, because without the stars, the movie is disappearing. At the end of the movie, they return to their world and change the movie to be Lela Queen of the Beach. But Mack and Brady, who met through the movie forget that they knew each other, and so 'That's How We Do' is after they forget everything, so they basically meet again.
"Big villain who fakes being British" Perfection. Also, saying "the favorite movie of Brady and Mack's grandpa" makes it sound like they have the same grandpa, and that would make this a far different movie lmao
The reason you're getting 50's vibes is because a large poetion of the plot is based around an in-universe movie musical called Wet Side Story, ahich is set in the 60's, so the music reflects that

A brief run down of the first movie, the main blonde guy Brady and brunette girl Mack on the poster get transported into a movie. Brady knows this movie, its his favourite movie which is why he jumped into the song and took the spotlight in the third song. In the movie the bikers and suffer fight for the hang out spot but then one of the suffer guys Tanner (he sings with Brady in the last song) saved the girl in the pink leather, Layla from falling and hurting herself, they fall in love and stop the war between the two groups but with Brady and Mack there they manage to screw up the plot of the movie and now have to try to fix it before they can get transported back to reality. Also, it is set back in the era of Grease so the lyrics in Like Me make more sense, Brady and Mack have a very modern sense of how relationship should work while the movie characters dont because they were made for a certain time.
The problem with context in teen beach songs is that most action actually happens without a song. I think the songs that could give a bit of context are "can't stop singing" from the first one, and "best summer ever", "right where i wanna be" and "silver screen" from the second, but even they don't really help. There is also "surf crazy", but it's not the song that gives context, it's just Brady saying what's going on.
@@mldag1678I felt that too but then I remember I memorized one of the choreographies for a show when I was in fifth grade and now I'm in the university, feeling damm old
This is my favorite dcom! You should definitely watch “Falling for Ya”, “Surf Crazy”, “Meant to Be”, and “Can’t Stop Singing” for a part two. They’re from the first movie and give a lot more context!
You need to listen to "The Driver Era" because Ross Lynch (who is in these 2 movies) does more music. Some songs from them to hear is "A Kiss", "Preacher Man", "Fantasy", and "Heaven Angel". Great songs and some of my favorites!
If you’re still doing more live action Disney I’d love to see you react to the 2nd High School Musical movie, if you thought Troy and Gabriella’s friends were jerks in the first one, you’ll probably have a lot to rant about watching the 2nd one lol
Your next stop on the DCOMS rabbit hole should definitely be Lemonade Mouth. Personally I recommend listening to Determinate, She’s So Gone, Somebody, and Breakthrough! Also would love to see more Zombies song reactions.
The way I jolted at the notification because of 1. Nostalgia (as usual with Matthew) 2. Whenever I see a Matthew McKenna video it's at 12am in my timezone so I have officially been drawing for 12 hours
In my opinion, if you want to understand the movie the best, here are the songs to listen to: Can’t Stop Singing-This song demonstrates what has happened to the protagonists and why it’s a musical. Like Me-This song shows character mindsets. The movies are technically about impressing one another, so you get to see each side of the two worlds. Falling For Ya-This is where the main “oh fvck moment happens that you may be able to catch onto. Silver Screen-This is the best example in the second movie because it’s the characters revealing the conflict while giving you context to what is happening. I hope there’s another video on TBM. Also, the fact that you said Like Me reminds you of Grease makes me feel validated. My family thought I was crazy for even suggesting such a thing.
I like how you listed to Teen Beach 2 too, they have a different plot 😂. The first one has the two main go into a movie and 2 has the movie characters come into reality
Ross Lynch, who's the blonde guy, was also on Austin and Ally before Teen Beach, where he plays a famous popstar. He also had a group with his siblings, called R5, and now he's a duo with one of his brother but I don't remember the name of the duo. But someone will surely do!
Im going to try to explain this the best I can. The main characters are Mack (the girl) and Brady (the boy) they’re both surfers in the real world and Brady loves the 1960s movie”west side story” one day Mack takes this magical surf board that belongs to Brady’s family into some crazy once in a life time waves and then ends up magically being teleported into the plot of west side story, Brady gets there too somehow but I don’t remember exactly. The two characters basically have to help the plot move along the way it was written in order to be able to leave but the main girl character of west side story starts to fall for Brady and the main guy character of west side story starts to fall for Mack when they’re supposed to fall for eachother, not Mack or Brady. Mack and Brady start becoming apart of the world e.g. hair stays dry when in water, forced to be apart of the musical numbers and so on, and are slowly being integrated into the plot of the film. essentially they get the plot back to normal and then travel back to the real world with the magical surfboard. The end scene is all of the teens on the beach watching west side story and the girl in the film winking at Mack is just alluding to the magic of it all as they had met before in the film’s cinematic universe. Also the symbol on the main character’s bracelet from west side story is the same one on the magic surf board
I'm so excited you're reacting to this!! This is one of my favorite Disney movies, I hope you will react to the whole movie in the future cause I'd definitely watch it,it's such a great movie and the music is top tier!
i remember getting the dvd for this movie from like a disney informercial specifically for layla’s necklace. it got stolen about a week later. that was my villain origin story
The main guy, Brady is the star of the Disney show Austin and Ally, he was a singer on that show too, I basically watched these movies because he was in them, he's Ross Lynch, and he's also part of the band R5 if I remember correctly.
bro I’m so ready for this. when I was a kid I memorized every song and choreography for these movies. theater kid since I was born no shame at all edit: 7:41 I KNEW you would love him!! and at this point you haven’t even heard him sing lol. I must be psychic or something
If you want context listen to “can’t stop singing” first!!! Also “meant to be” and “falling for ya” were two of my favorite songs in the movie growing up, and they have more context too 🥹 I’d love to hear you react to them!! “Surf crazy” is also superrr iconic
Dear Matthew, when I was in middle school Teen Beach Movie had come out and it was one of my fav Disney Movies, that being said the plot was umm...odd. I never watch the second one so I am only going to tell you what I remember of the top of my head from the first. The movie stars Brady (the blonde boy) and Mac (the girl) who are friend and spend summers surfing at the beach. One day Mac has to tell Brady that she is moving away for school and the two loose their chance to tell each other they love one another. In a final attempt to feel some joy Mac tries to catch one last wave to surf but as she does a storm rolls in. Brady rushes out to save her and the two get taken down by the wave. When they come too on the beach they realize they have been transported into Brady's favorite movie Way Side Story (which is a parody of West Side Story) which is about bikers trying to take over a hang spot on the beach the suffers use. The two try to stay uninvolved but they get dragged into it as well. Unfortunately this has consequences as in the movie the biker leaders sister is supposed to fall in love with Tanner (the main suffer boy) but instead they fall in love with Mac and Brady causing the story to derail. Then spend the movie trying to get the two actual movie characters to fall in love. Some weird stuff happens their modern items start disappearing, and they have a whole song about starting to become part of the movie and cant control when they sing anymore. There are some dumb villains, these two scientists (who I think had some gay undertones) who capture Brady and Mac and that's what brings the bikers and surfers together and Tanner and biker leaders sister fall in love. The two take one final surf and end up back in the modern world (which i think no time has passed in) and join back up with their family. There's a finally dance scene and an after credits scene of the movie characters ending up in the modern world which i believe is the premise of the second movie.
I love how f*cking confused he is. 🤣🤣🤣 I have seen both movies many times and had a hilarious time listeninh to him not understaning anything and trying and guessing all wrong. I also like how he agreed with everything Brady and Mac said while being paffled with everything that the "old times" people said. Shows he is strongly in the modern area. You should watch both movies and make videos of it. You won't get the plot until you see the entirety of them.
You’d have to watch the movies you jumped from the second movie to the firsts that why your confused Brady and Mack are friends it’s Disney’s version of west side story basically
Teen Beach is my favorite DCOM as someone who loves musical theater- 2 people getting trapped in a Grease/West Side Story-esque movie is a really great framing for a love letter to musicals of that era.
The choreographer is Christopher Scott, and he is BRILLIANT! I was around to see the Beach Party type movies upon which these films pat homage to...they were a blast!
If you listened to "Can't Stop Singing" everything makes so much more sense because that's where they talk about what's going on. Can we get a part 2 please with that song and "Falling for ya" and "On My Own" and "Surf Crazy" ?
This movie feels like it could turn into a horror/slasher film at any time. Not entirely sure if I'm the one who feels that, but it's just got those vibes where it wouldn't have surprised me if it did.
It was killing me that I couldn't give Mathew context for this while he was watching the songs. You literally need to know context because both movies you'd never be able to guess what's happening.
The funny thing about this movie is i know its whole f*cking plot SOLELY from the fact that they played commercials for it non-stop during one summer. Never watched it but its just ingrainrd in my head.
You mean to tell me, that after watching those he didn't get that the two main characters Mack and Brady were sucked into Brady's favorite movie from the 50s by a magical storm caused by the movies Villans that sucked them through the ocean and into the movie dimension? He didn't pick up on that? Huh... weird.
The second song you listened to is the last song from the second movie. Out of context it makes absolutely no sense, especially without knowing anything about the first movie, lmao 😂
Oooh! Im early 😂 You won’t be able to stop singing 😉😂🏖️🌊🎶 23:28 oh I thought they were referencing The Little Rascals when they would do that as a form of hello… Also I can’t wait til you watch the movie. It’ll make a bit more sense but you’ll probably still be even more confused😂
Your next DCOM should 100% be lemonade mouth it’s probably my favorite Disney movie and for songs I highly recommend determinate, she’s so gone, and somebody Those are definitely the biggest songs from the movie 😊
So context. Teen Beach 1 is about Mack and Brady, who are from the future, being in love. But, Mack is leaving to go to a fancy school and didn't tell Brady yet. Mack uses a magical surfboard and both get transported to Wet Side Story(the universe's version of West Side Story). Brady knows the movie by heart, but they've changed the movie and have to get Tanner and Lela(the love interests of Wet Side Story) back together before they are merged into the movie. Also there's an evil scientist and land baron who create the storm at the end of the movie, but no one really cares about them. Teen Beach 2 is about Mack and Brady after summer ends. Lela and Tanner somehow get transported into the future and Mack and Brady have to get the back to the movie before the movie disappears. The ending of the second movie is that Lela changed the movie and now Mack and Brady don't know eachother and meet for the first time. Now that I say it out loud... I see how ridiculous these two plots sound. Lela's solo number is actually my favorite and it'll give you some context for the story.
Fun fact, almost everyone who claimed to have Teen Beach movie as a favorite Disney movie is now part of the LGBTQ+ community, including a lot of the actors in the movie 😂😂 no but fr you set yourself up by doing for the second movie first. Gonna need a part two with more songs from the first one, my personal favorite is I Can't Stop Singing
15:03 spoilers if you care yeaaahhh in the second movie at the very end they both lose their memories. they’re a couple for the first two movies and then lose their memories at the end of the second movie. that ending made me SO MAD as a kid.
Teen Beach Movie is pretty easy to explain, Teen Beach Movie 2 is not, but I'll try: Teen Beach Movie: 2 teens, Brady and Mack, who don't know each other very well get transported into Brady's favorite movie via surfboard when Mack wanted to know her destiny. The Movie is Wet Side Story, a Parody of West Side Story, where 2 teens, Leila (a biker) and Tanner (a surfer) fall in love at first sight and unite the bikers and surfers. HOWEVER when Brady and Mack enter the story, they accidentally interrupt the love song, so Tanner falls for Mack and Leila for Brady. All mixed up, so Mack and Brady have to figure out how to matchmake Tanner and Leila to save the surfers and bikers from 2 evil scientists by uniting the 2 groups. Eventually Mack and Brady get sent back to the real world and Mack decides not to go to a fancy private school but rather finish enjoying her summer and getting to know Brady better. Teen Beach Movie 2: It is the last days of summer and the start of Senior year of Highschool for Mack and Brady. They are figuring out their future plans and finding out how different they are. Meanwhile Leila and Tanner get transported to the real world because the necklace she gave Mack in the last movie ended up coming back to her, and she thinks it's a sign Mack might need her. Problem is, they don't know they are from a movie so they don't interact with the real world very well, and the movie, without its main characters is fading away. Mack and Brady find their movie friends, and try to integrate them into high school life, while trying to figure out how to send them back to the movie. (Also Mack starts crushing on this nerd guy). Mack and Brady have a fight because of where they think they might be headed. So Mack shows Leila real world things, and Leila learns she loves calculus (insane, I know) and Brady tells Tanner that he doesn't feel like he's good enough for Mack, because she thinks he doesn't have a plan for the future, when he actually does, he just doesn't think it's good enough for her standards so he hasn't shown it to her. Tanner gives him a bit of a pep talk. Meanwhile Leila more and more does not want to go back to being a movie character (Mack and Brady told them about that, and did a whole dance number trying to convince them how great it is to have life written out for you, but Leila wasn't sold). Anyways something happened and the girls and guys meet at the dance in the song 🎵Gotta Be Me🎵, and then go outside to talk when the remaining characters from the movie crossed the ocean to beg Tanner and Leila to come back when they start disappearing before their eyes. So they have to figure out a way to send them back to the movie to restore it. So they go to Brady's shack, where Mack learns about Brady's future plans he hadn't told her about, and she is impressed, but there is clearly more important things happening so they have to move on quickly. And anyways they grad a surfboard Brady modified so that it can be used without any waves so they can send their friends back. Leila agrees to going back but she laments about how boring having a pre-determined future must be, so Mack tells her to change it. Not to be controlled by the story but to do what she likes. HERE'S THE WEIRD PART: Leila took Mack's advice and changed the movie from Wet Side Story to Leila Queen of The Beach. But because Wet Side Story was related to how Brady and Mack met, changing the movie meant they never met. So the events of the last movie have all been nullified and the story starts over, the the introductions during 🎵That's How We Do 🎵 I hope that explains most of it!

@@shawnstum5323 At the beginning of the first movie Mack wasn't into it. She liked it at the end because she became friends with Layla.
Also, it is set back in the era of Grease so the lyrics in Like Me make more sense, Brady and Mack have a very modern sense of how relationship should work while the movie characters dont because they were made for a certain time.
or the short version just random teens get transported into a movie about having fun at the beach
Mathew watching the FINAL song of the SECOND movie and being super confused is really funny and infurating at the same time
Mathew having no clue what the plot of Teen Beach Movie is and watching the songs completely out of order is the funniest thing ever
Watching Teen Beach with no context AND starting with 2…
Yeah gotta be confusing 😂 But this was my jam as a kid!
bro PLEASE do a part two. there’s SO MANY good songs you didn’t get to that I would love to see your reaction to
15:21 that song came at the end of the 2nd movie and would probably only make sense if you watched the last half an hour of the last movie
This was definitely my favorite musical when i was little, really happy to see you react to this
”When I was little” I feel like it came out only 3-4 years ago😭💀💀
@@mldag1678I felt that too but then I remember I memorized one of the choreographies for a show when I was in fifth grade and now I'm in the university, feeling damm old
@@mldag1678Not even 😟
@@mldag1678the first movie is 10 years old 😐
MATHEWS AMERICAN ACCENT ACTUALLY SCARED ME AS AN AMERICAN, IT WAS SPOT ON 💀💀
How’d I miss it 😭😭
i love how they chose the songs that reveal as little of the plot as possible
i haven’t even finished watching the video yet but the amount of joy i felt when i saw the notification for this is unmatched
12:46 - omg love it
Ross Lynch ABSOLUTELY has so much Kenergy in this!!
I used to love this movie! It was honestly so underrated- People always talked about high school musical but I always thought it was cheezy and bad 😭
I know right, he left out the best ones
This is my favorite dcom! You should definitely watch “Falling for Ya”, “Surf Crazy”, “Meant to Be”, and “Can’t Stop Singing” for a part two. They’re from the first movie and give a lot more context!
You need to listen to "The Driver Era" because Ross Lynch (who is in these 2 movies) does more music. Some songs from them to hear is "A Kiss", "Preacher Man", "Fantasy", and "Heaven Angel". Great songs and some of my favorites!
Yes! I feel like he would love TDE so much!
Lemonade Mouth is so underrated! Those songs are so good!
The way I jolted at the notification because of
1. Nostalgia (as usual with Matthew)
2. Whenever I see a Matthew McKenna video it's at 12am in my timezone so I have officially been drawing for 12 hours
In my opinion, if you want to understand the movie the best, here are the songs to listen to:
Can’t Stop Singing-This song demonstrates what has happened to the protagonists and why it’s a musical.
"I was expecting him to do, like, eighty backflips"
We NEED to get this man to watch blues brothers asap.
Falling for ya was one of the best tracks in my opinion
real
Fr
Yes
In both movies
I like how you listed to Teen Beach 2 too, they have a different plot 😂. The first one has the two main go into a movie and 2 has the movie characters come into reality
Ross Lynch, who's the blonde guy, was also on Austin and Ally before Teen Beach, where he plays a famous popstar.
He also had a group with his siblings, called R5, and now he's a duo with one of his brother but I don't remember the name of the duo. But someone will surely do!
The fact that Matthew is even more confused after every song. 😂
I watched Teen Beach so long ago but I still know most the the songs decently well, especially the second one with the projector on the beach
This was one of the first Disney channel films that I watched and I remember loving it so much
i remember getting the dvd for this movie from like a disney informercial specifically for layla’s necklace. it got stolen about a week later. that was my villain origin story
Oof. F in the chat buddy. (I also got the DVD too)
This movie and it's sequel gave me an existential crisis. The more you think the more terrifying it gets
The main guy, Brady is the star of the Disney show Austin and Ally, he was a singer on that show too, I basically watched these movies because he was in them, he's Ross Lynch, and he's also part of the band R5 if I remember correctly.
Weirdly enough the thing I remember most about this movie is the collab they did with Club Penguin. God, that makes me feel old…
bro I’m so ready for this. when I was a kid I memorized every song and choreography for these movies. theater kid since I was born no shame at all
edit: 7:41 I KNEW you would love him!! and at this point you haven’t even heard him sing lol. I must be psychic or something
If you want context listen to “can’t stop singing” first!!! Also “meant to be” and “falling for ya” were two of my favorite songs in the movie growing up, and they have more context too 🥹 I’d love to hear you react to them!! “Surf crazy” is also superrr iconic
gonna admit that i didnt watch the video yet.. BUT I'm so happy you're listening to this masterpiece 😭
i really liked your last miraculous video it’s a shame it isn’t up anymore x
got copyright claimed, hopefully back soon
The songs from the second movie are even more confusing when you've seen the first movie but not the second one. I have no clue what was going on.
“It feels so fifties” I WONDER WHY??
He'd likely be less confused if he'd started with Can't Stop Singing.
Gotta be me is the best song of the sequel, I absolutely love it!
Me too,I still listen to it
Mathew's 'merican "Oh, Tanner," had me shook ❤😅
So we are really in the eras of Matthew listening to DCOM's music. I'm so into it!!!
i really think you'd like "can't stop singing" you'd probably recognize it from tiktok too because it become a popular sound on there not long ago.
Teen Beach is confusing WITH context so listening to the songs out of context and out of order is even more confusing😭
Can’t Stop Singing would explain a little bit more
i love how he watches the music videos out of order without knowing the plot 😭 no wonder he's confused
Teen Beach Movie about two Surfer’s who get isekei-ed into a parody of West Side Story, but on a beach. Love it!❤
If you need any context: (or atleast without spoilers)
Two teens get stuck in a 60’s beach movie
a part 2 is needed. I recommend falling for ya (from the first movie, theres 2 versions), surf crazy, meant to be, and best summer ever
I used to be obsessed with this movie!!
Me too 😁
omg i loved teen beach, if u make a part 2 i highly recommend listening to can't stop singing and falling for ya, iconic songs they are
What I'M confused about is why you're surprised that you're confused when you KNOW you're gonna have zero context. 😂
Frrrr
Teen Beach movie is about two teenagers that get transported into a 50s musical movie and then have to find a way back.
This movie feels like it could turn into a horror/slasher film at any time. Not entirely sure if I'm the one who feels that, but it's just got those vibes where it wouldn't have surprised me if it did.
oh you've definitely gotta make a part two for this. specifically just with songs from the first movie
Why does Mathew look like he could pretty easily belong in Wet Side Story though?
Please you absolutely must listen "ON MY OWN" is a hit
It was killing me that I couldn't give Mathew context for this while he was watching the songs. You literally need to know context because both movies you'd never be able to guess what's happening.
The funny thing about this movie is i know its whole f*cking plot SOLELY from the fact that they played commercials for it non-stop during one summer. Never watched it but its just ingrainrd in my head.
This movie was my childhood
You mean to tell me, that after watching those he didn't get that the two main characters Mack and Brady were sucked into Brady's favorite movie from the 50s by a magical storm caused by the movies Villans that sucked them through the ocean and into the movie dimension? He didn't pick up on that? Huh... weird.
Ah yes… I was waiting for this one.
The second song you listened to is the last song from the second movie. Out of context it makes absolutely no sense, especially without knowing anything about the first movie, lmao 😂
Oooh! Im early 😂
You won’t be able to stop singing 😉😂🏖️🌊🎶
23:28 oh I thought they were referencing The Little Rascals when they would do that as a form of hello…
Also I can’t wait til you watch the movie. It’ll make a bit more sense but you’ll probably still be even more confused😂
I CANT BELIEVE U REACTED TO THIS OMG I M SO HAPPY
Feel like the Austin and Ally songs should be next, just for more Ross lynch
Seen it around 20 times…
The music never leaves my mind
I would love to see a video of you reacting to music from the Nick show called Make It Pop and the group XOIQ !!!
cruisin' for a bruisin' is the best disney channel song ever written and best choreography ever, forever timeless
You should really listen to the songs in order and with context. Maybe do movie reactions and you wouldnt be as confused!
Your next DCOM should 100% be lemonade mouth it’s probably my favorite Disney movie and for songs I highly recommend determinate, she’s so gone, and somebody
Those are definitely the biggest songs from the movie 😊
Yes! Lemonade Mouth! I honestly don't think there's a single song from that movie I don't like
You should do austin and ally next
Huh. Meanwhile I only heard of it this year.
I'm a fake! 😢
Ah yes. Can confirm, this movie is my favorite and I'm queer.
15:03 spoilers if you care
yeaaahhh in the second movie at the very end they both lose their memories. they’re a couple for the first two movies and then lose their memories at the end of the second movie. that ending made me SO MAD as a kid.
Teen Beach Movie is pretty easy to explain, Teen Beach Movie 2 is not, but I'll try:
Teen Beach Movie:
2 teens, Brady and Mack, who don't know each other very well get transported into Brady's favorite movie via surfboard when Mack wanted to know her destiny.
Teen Beach Movie 2:
It is the last days of summer and the start of Senior year of Highschool for Mack and Brady.
HERE'S THE WEIRD PART:
Leila took Mack's advice and changed the movie from Wet Side Story to Leila Queen of The Beach. But because Wet Side Story was related to how Brady and Mack met, changing the movie meant they never met. So the events of the last movie have all been nullified and the story starts over, the the introductions during 🎵That's How We Do 🎵
I hope that explains most of it!
Out on my own is probably my fave song despite the inaccuracy of the guitar playing 😂 the actor actually knows how to sing and play
Ross Lynch was my childhood crush. I love his voice and Matt you're right he totally has KENERGY. btw you should totally listen to his original songs from his band R5.
Songs in the first film are just the best! You actually started with songs from the sequel, so without the context it's even worse
