+Crimson He meant the state of the player after dying. The player is undead all the time in the game, but when he dies and loses his human form he becomes hollow. Not hollow enough to attack others, but still hollow, and indeed the player does *look* hollow, not "far from it". The game itself calls turning into a human "reversing hollowing".
@u r Well, that is very interesting. You'd expect a wizard to be an old man indeed. Probably just a coincidence though since the languages are in no way related. :-)
Man....the cut dialogue really makes you feel for every character...Oscar was supposed to survive but they decided to kill him off and you can still find the audio files. There's also audio files of Artorias where he's being emotionally and mentally tormented during the fight by the Abyss as he can not control himself.
After playing Dark Souls III and knowing that Solaire in fact is *not* the firstborn of Gwyn, it just makes this character more interesting. I mean who on earth is he? He's just a random optimistic guy searching for a sun for whatever reason.
Melak I don't want to spoil it to anyone who hasn't played DkS3. Through item descriptions in that game it becomes evident who it is. You can google it if you want to.
Melak What if NK _is_ Faraam? Look at the item descriptions of NK's items and miracles. To me it seems like the only way they could make it more clear that he is the firstborn would be to actually say he's the firstborn. In addition to those descriptions, well, he is nameless, Gwyn erased his name from history. He used to be a dragonslayer but now sides with the dragons and rides one, so he clearly slayed dragons in Gwyn's army but betrayed Gwyn to side with the dragons, which would lead to his being banished from Gwyn's realm and his statues being removed. He is also related to Anor Londo, it has been said that he taught Ornstein to fight. And Ornstein's armour is found near his boss arena. Who is he if not Gwyn's firstborn? Some random dude who was a dragonslayer but betrayed Gwyn and now rides a dragon and lives on a dragon mountain?
He's so charismatic, I love him. When I first heard him laugh I suddenly forgot where I was standing and what my quest was, I just wanted to laugh with him and... pray the sun.
The thing that is weird is that you don't even connect with Solaire, yet he becomes your best friend. You speak to him but don't really say anything to him. He talks to you, helps you with some fights, and surprises you on your journey by meeting you in random places. Yet you establish a connection with him like a player had with characters like Dom (Gears of War) Soap (CoD Modern Warfare), Characters from the Walking Dead comic games Katie (Dead Rising 2) Characters in Dragon Age Ellie (Last of Us), etc. You hardly see him compared to all the journeys you have in this game, yet you establish such a close connection and become willing to sacrifice much just to save him. Perhaps it's the kindness he shows and his selflessness. Solaire of Astora and Segemeyer of Catarina. The two best friends you meet in Dark Souls.
+blazzered2 I think it's because the world of Dark Souls is such a brutal and hostile environment that when you come across this guy, he becomes this figure of lightheartedness and comfort in a game that constantly fills you with dread. You're constantly expecting the worst around every corner, so when you run into this guy, it's such a good feeling because he lifts your spirits.
I..... think it's just the pressure of the fandom that worships him. To me he didn't seemed more significant than any other NPC. Butseeing that LOVE radiating from his fans just makes you see him in a different light... and you either spend 30 humanity to sabotage his sun-finding or glitch a poison cloud through a door to sabotage his sun-finding.
Naru Well the fandom started somewhere. I think the thing that makes him stand out is his positive spirit. Everything in the universe of Dark Souls feels very depressing, but Solaire is always shining light into your dark world (hehehehe). I mean you don't really see any fandom for any other character like you do Solaire. He really stood out and became important to everyone, while everyone became sort of forgettable. I didn't come close to Solaire through the fandom. I became close to him playing through the game myself and liking his lines and his assistance against Ornstein & Smough, and the other bosses. Looking at Dark Souls 2, you had Lucatiel kinda take the place of Solaire, but she was really depressing, and so was almost every other character. DS2 was poorly written already, but still thinking that no character in DS2 became as important feeling as Solaire did. Solaire was a very positive character and and I think that inspired the fandom and the connection players made with him.
It's weird but for some reason I'm so invested in Solaire's life in the Dark Souls universe. He's so simple & sweet with his words making him so likeable. I've never been so invested in a character since playing FFIX. A real joy to listen to what he has to say. I hope he finds his Sun one day.
+Rizzy hes one of the few friendly faces in that game. dark souls can feel so isolating and then when you think you are totally alone you run into this charming fellow~
"My very own sun..." I don't know why, but out of all the video games I play I feel such a connection to Solaire. It's the strangest thing, because to most people they would think that he is very vague as he's not necessarily what most people would consider a major character in a game. But he is so much more than that. And as weird as people think I am I see him as an inspiration. I hope I find my very own sun too, Solaire.
Player seems to be his sun... if player save Solaire and chose to lit the fire, instead of let it fade: he/she will become the "sun" of undead, so Solaires sun as well. There is a saying that "What you are looking most, is so close to you that you dont see it" (raw translation) ... maybe thats why Solaire was intrested in player from the start.
Because each voice actor conveys the intentions and emotions of the characters perfectly. Miyazaki intentionally picks voice actors this way. Like a great director should.
No one thinks it's weird. Everyone finds inspiration in Knight Solaire of Astora! Everyone knows he is the greatest legend of Dark Souls! He is the one optimist in the entire game! Praise the SUN!
I thought it was funny about near 02:41 he was screaming in pain and cursing you and die, and then next in 02:44 he just went and cheerfully said "Oh hello there!"
Wow what an old comment! Wouldn't it be funny if this guy makes Dark Souls related content after 8 years of posting a comment on a Dark souls related video? Now wouldn't that just be wacky
I love how every NPC brings a unique perspective or personality with their peculiar dialogue and motivations. Solaire holds an unusual sense of warmth and hope in a bleak world, much like the Sun he follows, a beacon of charisma in the darkness.
I agree, I think it's such a well written charachter and story progression. Those really are his strenght in charachter. Furthermore, the fact that a powerful and brave soldier like solaire, succumbs to an immobile loathsome parasite, really highlights the weaknesses in his charachteristics. An joyful, optimistic, you could say to some degree even naive (as solaire calls himself) person is more prone to being manipulated by other's than someone skeptic expecting the worst (pessimist). It's a tragic end to his charachter, and I like that there is an option for someone else (you as the player) to protect him from this fate. Also, if you do protect him from the evil influence of the maggot, he actually makes it to Gwyn in his own world and links the flame, sacrificing himself and becoming the sun. I think this is a very beautiful message, as he is able to accomplish great things, due to his optimistic outlook on life.
"Aaaah...aaaaaah... finally... i`ve found it! I have...! Oh! My very own Sun... I... AM... the sun! I`ve done it!" Oooh, I remember this, I was already shivers, when Solaire said it, poor Solaire! :(
is your picture...hei? why is his mouth all freaky? and why does it look like he has a goatee? maybe too many anime characters look alike. lol but i'm still praisin'
Time is convoluted in lordran. That means sunbro is always going to be right back where you found him in the first place. Live on and praise the sun in our memories and in our hearts.
what sickens me the most is that solaire is one of the best companion in gaming history and he either dies corrupted by a bug or just simply wanders around the undeads forever. i mean we get to complete fucking onion bro questline (i don't mind much that guy) and we left solaire's uncompleted. i mean how sad is it that there is no ending to his quest other than death by our hands? how about, since we can save him and summon him to fight lord gwyn, let him take your place and link the fire? so he can become the sun, casting away the dark and undoing the curse of the undeads? how awesome would that be, for him to actually fulfill his quest?
It's assumed by many in the community that in his own world/timeline after aiding the Chosen Undead, Solaire himself lights the Kiln. After all, "Chosen" doesn't really mean anything. All undead are, in a way, the Chosen. They just need to have the skill to reach their goals. Just because one has managed to light or snuff the flame in their own time doesn't change anything for others, as time is distorted and worlds are constantly shifting apart in Lordran. Solaire had already shown he was more than capable of going far on his own, only with a little help from one of his fellow Undead is he able to overcome his despair and reach the Kiln. After all, to be in the Kiln as a summon, that can only mean that Solaire had gathered every Lord Soul and entered it himself.
ShadowSoldior i like this assumption though there's something unclear about the different timeline stuff solaire talks about. he says that the time is convoluted and you can use the soapstone to summon the phantoms of heroes from other timelines. but all the phantoms you summon (except from witch beatrice?), you meet them in your timeline by presence, solaire itself, it's in your world/timeline since you see him appearing in non-phantom form in undead burg, anor londo and lost izalith. he also dies by our hand in our timeline and not as phantom (like, say, kirk). and if you manage to save him, he will still be in your world/timeline. this kind of confuses me..
is it normal to get goose bumps when you hear this dialogue?? thanks for doing this.. by laying it out like this you see his progression towards hollow. makes you see how necessary it was to put him down. i feel like his souls were being consumed by the hopelessness around him. I hope he found peace, oh wait i consumed his souls and spent them on some poison arrow.....
I fucking knew his voice sounded familiar when the first Dark Souls was released. Daniel Flynn, the same guy who played Superintendent John Heaton in the Bill is his voice actor. Amazing.
"But with a little bit of your humanity and use this 1:28" WHY ON EARTH WAS THAT DIALOUGE CUT! It basically explains how summoning works and there are no other explanations for it in game. When i did my first run i did not even know that summoning NPC and other players worked until half way into the game when i found it by accident... maybe that was the point, but its still confusing that small bit was cut.
I would think Solaire was originally going to be the person who pushed the undead body into your cell in order to give you the key and free you from the Asylum (As his other unused dialogue talks about how you BOTH escaped from the asylum), but for some reason they changed the character to Oscar.
They cut out so much fucking lore from these pieces and honestly idc what anyone else thinks, I still regard every bit of this as canon material to the DS lore because it was so well done. Fite me m8

Meanwhile in Fromsoft! Everyone: Lets make it a great and long game with awesome dialogue depicting the whole story of the characters with character bonding relationships with memorable partnerships! *they realize it makes the game way too long* Everyone: Screw it, let them figure it out!
I understand the actor also voices Alfred The Executioner in Bloodborne. Fitting that the most optimistic characters in both games share the same voice.
+Nick Tucker I think that's because his grudge against the vile bloods and his obsession with honoring Logarius. But he's always very calm whenever you find him
Saint Link Calm, sure, but he isn't going "Jolly cooperation" and asking you to summon him and laughing with you. He's basically like "Hey, we can help each other. Let's do that."
If his story is progressed correctly, one could say he ends up finding his sun. Think about it, he is the only NPC that manages to go as far as to the Gwyn fight. And after the Gwyn fight, if you choose to rekindle the first flame, you burn. One could say, you burn as bright as the sun...
Solaire may still be searching for his own sun but he will always be our own :')

"You dont look hollow" Character has no helmet and is clearly a hollow.
Undead, not hollow. Hollows attack you on sight and are just mindless husks of what they once were.
+Crimson
He meant the state of the player after dying. The player is undead all the time in the game, but when he dies and loses his human form he becomes hollow. Not hollow enough to attack others, but still hollow, and indeed the player does *look* hollow, not "far from it". The game itself calls turning into a human "reversing hollowing".

Everyone: Lets make it a great and long game with awesome dialogue depicting the whole story of the characters with character bonding relationships with memorable partnerships!
*they realize it makes the game way too long*
Everyone: Screw it, let them figure it out!
I still think Andre is the firstborn.
I understand the actor also voices Alfred The Executioner in Bloodborne. Fitting that the most optimistic characters in both games share the same voice.
I dunno if I would call Alfred optimistic. Dude is a real sadist on the inside.
I always wear his armor in DS3. It's the least I can do to honor the Warrior of the Sun.
Sign here if you want Solaire and only Solaire to voice every character in From Software's next game
he speaks like he talking to his SON, not sun. so maybe he had a son and now he regrets being undead.
He was looking for the sun but ended up breeding someone's son 😏😩
It was me.
@@asulnahatinggabi as you should king
My god I wish that they included everything Solaire was intended to be in.
6:06 - 6:41 Why Im crying😭
If his story is progressed correctly, one could say he ends up finding his sun. Think about it, he is the only NPC that manages to go as far as to the Gwyn fight. And after the Gwyn fight, if you choose to rekindle the first flame, you burn. One could say, you burn as bright as the sun...
Good to hear you help your brothers.
zit's time for some.....
