The 105 was way too hot for me. I diluted it often with other whiskies (in the glass) & still not happy with it. I didnt think it drank well with added water either. I left the lid off it a few times over night. I even shook the bottle to get some air into it !. Over probably 10 years of oxidation in the bottle, it finally became drinkable, and enjoyable. The Tamdhu is drinkable and light years ahead in my opinion , mine is the Batch 4 (57.8% ABV). I wont be repalcing the 105, I much prefer the 15 yo Glenfarclas to the 105, ( and prefer the 15 yo Tamdhu over both at any rate).

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Prof. Yesterday I bought the 105 1-liter bottle in Taiwan, paid 45 USD at the duty free. It's very entertaining to see the evolution when adding water. Best regards from Asia.

    Nice rewiev.
Here in vestern europe the 105 only costs about 70% of the Tamdhu batch strength .

I have the Tamdhu Batch 4, 57.8%. I haven’t done a side-by-side of these two, but going by memory, I found Tamdhu to have deeper, richer flavors. For value, I’ll have to give it to Glenfarclas. Got the two for the same price ($53 3 yrs ago), but GF came in a 1L bottle. I agree with Erik, can’t go wrong with either of these.

    Horst is great! 😂
I have Tamdhu batch 6, and for the $60 I paid at Costco it's awesome! @ $100 I'd be slightly disappointed, it's a little hot. All the other characteristics I enjoy, it's syrupy, dense, juicy and packs a lot of flavor. So once your pallet has acclimated it great.

One of the closest comparisons to judge. Both winners

Thanks for the review, Erik. While 105 has been a hero of mine for some time, I got to discover the Tamdhu CS only recently (compared to noless than glenfarclas 17!). I do feel Tamdhu is slightly better as I sense the 105 has slipped a bit in its sherry character. Just a humble opinion

Great review! It's always very interesting to sit down and compere similar whiskies, I've done it quite a few times, often together with some whisky friends. About these two beauties, I've had qute a few bottles of Glenfarclas 105 through the years and I must say that, to me, they are quite batch consitance, only small differencies. And I've had Tamdhu batch 2 and also tasted batch 3, and both were great. But I've never had them side by side. At one time we had a Aberlour a'Bunadh flight, 4 different batches, that was a fun one. All of them were great, but it was 4 different whiskies. As I remember it, it was batch 54, 57, 60, 63.

I had batch #4 and it was awesome!! Pretty much as you described. A splash of water helped to open it up. It was an all night malt.

Great comparison Erik . I have not had either. Closest was an SMWS single cask of the Glenfarclas. I have seen the 105 recently, but not the Tamdhu Batch Strength. Will likely pick up the 105 next time I see it and compare to the SMWS I have.

Great match-up; hard to argue with this result (I find the Tamdhu in particular to really benefit from the water). Cheers!

Great comparison, I've been curious about both of these and how they would compare to Aberlour A'bundandh. Got to say the Glenfarclas value proposition is quite appealing versus that very cool Art Deco Tamdhu bottle heheh.

I am a huge fan of the 105 but have never seen the Tamdhu cask strength. Neither seems to be very common in my market, which is around NYC in the US. I did try the Glenfarclas 17 vs the Tamdhu 15 and the Glenfarclas had more body and a interesting rougher edge to it. I'll have to keep an eye out for this Tamdhu Batch Strength if it's similar to the Glenfarclas 105

    🎼 What a crazy pair!
    But they're cousins,
    Identical cousins all the way.
    One pair of matching bookends,
Different as night and day. 🎶 😁👍🏻

Tamdhu has such a nice shaped bottle. I can see every whiskey lover taste whiskey differently. Some chew it, some add a lot of water. I guess it's best to find it for yourself. In my country Glenfarclas is 60€ and tamdhu 86€. I wonder how they stand against aberlour abunah?
