Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3 is a platform video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. It is an enhanced remake of the Nintendo Entertainment System video game Super Mario Bros. 3, and is based on the remake found in Super Mario All-Stars for the Super NES.
It contains several enhancements, including the addition of Mario and Luigi's voices by Charles Martinet, a multiplayer mode based on the original arcade game Mario Bros and the ability to scan e-Cards, utilizing two Game Boy Advances, the e-Reader, and a copy of Super Mario Advance 4. Once a card is scanned, it adds certain content to the game.
EZGames69 (tasvideos.org/E...) and GoddessMaria (tasvideos.org/G...) use warp whistles to beat the game in record time.

If you've ever played this on an emulator, the hyperspeed moonwalk is actually really easy, you just need to hold right and left at the same time
You’ll run the same speed even without holding B!

I first discovered this when playing around with the game when I first played it on emulator. I thought was the 1st one to discover this at the time only to be proven wrong here.
Does that work on Wii U VC where the thumbstick and D-pad can be utilized? That’s an emulator.
I'm so glad this is 4K and uses the best resizing filter known to man.

I wonder how compatible the TASes of the various versions of SMB 3 are with each other.
This Left+Right running glitch is only in the SNES and GBA versions. SNES and GBA have mostly the same physics, with some exceptions, and the level design is overall identical. The GBA version has several changes in physics, more levels have been slightly modified and the camera will be locked at the places where you can clip through the walls in NES and SNES.
So yeah... It depends on what you are comparing =).
Aw man, the thumbnail made it look like there would be some crazy glitch. Oh well, still good stuff.

Even tho I played this game a lot as a kid, I never knew that landing on the ground after getting enough 1-ups from stomping on enemies had a special animation

2:50 I really prefer the original NES version of these levels where the background was completely black. It was heaps scarier, felt like Bowser's world was in perpetual darkness
When I first played SMB3 on the NES I thought that part had a background, not like like the SNES but a oversimplified NES background.

Left+Right isn't that hard to find. It's very common that older games have glitches where you presd either left and right or up and down.

That backward acceleration is a thing by pressing left and right. I think it only works on pc
It works on console just fine, if you are able to press down the buttons that is. It works on SNES and GBA.

The author's comments on the GBA differences are interesting. It's surprising the nuance that goes into optimizing various ports of the same game.
Also, every ported game on GBA is a reminder of how awful the sound card was. Such a pity on an otherwise wonderful portable.

It's because it's all generated by software (besides the original Game Boy sound) playing through two 8-bit (at best) PWMs. And most games were optimized to sound reasonable through the tinny built-in speaker, anyway
