Lack of traffic is the reason. I was told the remaining customer in Bedford was only shipping 50 cars a year. The track to be pulled will be relaid on the Indy sub west of Linton where coal traffic on the INRD is booming. It will replace the old, worn out jointed rail that currently limits trains to 10mph.
These tracks have COMPLETEY ripped out from Crane to the outskirts of Bedford. There are still remnants in Bedford, but all tracks are abandoned. Sad to see the tracks go.
But the track is in such good condition! That train was moving at a decent speed, and it wasn't bouncing or rocking. It's a shame to remove the rails. So is it going to become a trail?
Great Horn!
