And after all, as I understand it, each considers only HERSELF to blame and each seeks to apologize. This... when I realized this, I just burst into tears from the realization of how bright the relationship between ponies, and indeed between any creatures, can be.
Aurelleah It actually connects to the story as more of Celestia is revealed and more of her forgives Luna (her hair turns to night colors which symbolizes Luna) am I right with that theory?

People will disagree, but I feel that this song and "On wings of monnlight" go well together with the story of the two sisters. Midnight Lament really connects with the regret Celestia has. It actually took this song to make me realize, too, the plothole of why Celestia did not or could not remove the nightmare curse in the first place. The possibility that Celestia acted rashly and did not consider external corruption suggests a much deeper sorrow within her. It suggests that not only is she saddened at losing her sister for a millennium, but that she could have saved her so long ago. My perspective of their relationship has changed drastically because of this song. That probably has more to do with me than the song itself, but it still made an impact.
I wrote this song with metaphorical lyrics, the lyrics are designed to be able to be applied to other situations besides just the original story; for me it was a metaphor for forgiving myself, struggling with self-condemnation/depression for the longest time, being able to soar above in the world of happiness again. I tied parts of the original story in with this to help cement the lyrics though for sure :>
