Not to take anything away from John Bonham because, well, he was "John Bonham," but I think too many people seem to forget what an incredible powerhouse of a drummer Ian Paice is-especially during "this" period of Deep Purple. Just listen to his work on songs like this, "Strange Kind of Woman," "Burn," etc. Just incredible!
and with such a relatively simple ' jazz ' drumkit. He's also working really hard, and very strict in keeping rhythm. Nice complicated and syncopated drum patterns too. A true master drummer.
I love this song , when I was 14 years of aged - and I still love it! And Ian Gillian - Whauuh - nice. ;)))))) Now I am 53 years old , in about half an hour - but Deep Purple , I will never forget you - Blach Night, Smoke on the water,´Fireball, etc. Love from Lise Sass - Copenhagen - Denmark
@@josephcalitri5710 I hate to break it to you but pitch correction has been around since the early 70s… I’m a sound engineer and the “digital aid” that you’re talking about could be the compression and EQ on his voice. There most likely is pitch correction, but no auto tune.
You sound just like me. They've always been in my top ten, right outside my top three. For the last year or so, they've become NUMBER ONE and I don't see that changing...EVER. It was always The Beatles, Queen and Floyd, with DP always lurking. Once I finally admitted to myself that The Beatles were number one just bc of how prolific they were, along with sentimentality, I went into phases. First it was just Queen for months, learning to really appreciate their early stuff. Then a year of Floyd, especially after I discovered Brit Floyd. Wouldn't listen to anything other than Floyd. Finally I stumbled on the Job Lord Tribute, watching & listening to Perfect Strangers (my favorite song for years,) and that started my current obsession with Purple. They are just so freaking talented and their music & lyrics mean so much to me. Thank God for You Tube (aside from its political bias,) or I might never have fully understood how truly epic Deep Purple was, is and always will be. Cheers!
Highway Star is definitely my favorite song. When I heard it for the first time it was an explosion of energy and joy, and it's the same every time I hear it.
You're right. Ian Paice is much under-rated and a huge talent. He's also just about the nicest guy you could ever meet, very humble, but hugely talented.
same my dad did as well, while I was 6-7 and I watched this on DVD in 2011 or 2012 I think Edit: forgot to mention that *Jon Lord* has always been my favorite... the distortion with the Hammond organ is crazy and especially when he tilts his organ to make they keys rattle
The greatest performers in hard rock history. In some of the video of live performances, Ian and Ritchie are getting along and actually having fun playing together. Too bad it couldn't last.
SPOT ON! Paicey was incredible, Lord and Blackmore could not have gone on their wild solo rampages without this powerhouse at the back. His fills were brilliant and the guy never missed a beat.
Deep Purple was my favorite band in HS and speed was my drug of choice. This song catches the euphoria of that time. We didn't get addicted back then we just crashed hard some times.
This is what Nixon was worried about! This stuff is out-of-control! The keyboard and other electronica did so much for Rock and Roll and guys that could actually play together took off to another world, allowing anyone to be an astronaut in their own minds. Love it.
Heard this today Really Loud while driving & tried to figure out what's the bottom sound that's propelling the groove, it's kinda behind the drum beat... now I know
i have this concert on DVD,... is fucking awesome... pure rock!!... pure adrenaline!!... PURE PURPLE!!... i love this show... and i saw a thousand times...
Made in Japan was one of the first few albums I ever had. I always wondered what my parent thought of me cobbling together a stereo and blasting this stuff back in 1972 discovered weed in 73 and it was on. Love this music.
+Mike Hahn Made in Japan is clearly one of the best live albums ever made. Blackmore was at the top of his game, Glover was just insane, Gillian the most underrated lead singer of all time, Lord - another crazy man, and the drummer a wild and another underrated drummer. Deep Purple [ Mark II ] the greatest rock band of all time.
Both Paice are power house drummers! They are my absolute favorite drummers of all time. And I guess it's pretty obvious why. They're magically spectacular!

LIVE IN COPENHAGEN 1972....favourite mark 2 live....BEST version of CHILD IN TIME....Jon Lord goes fucking nuts in the middle of it.....FIREBALL live....why did that not stay in the set....I like this better than MADE IN JAPAN.....
Ian gillians voice is like a beautiful middle ground between like Elvis Robert plant and Bruce Dickinson, and of course Ritchie and the rest of the band are spectacular
Why doesn't the video crew show all the guitar solos and keyboard solos? The poor understanding of music by the video crew at that time, who continued to show vocals even during solos, was sad. They do not know that DEEPURPLE is not an idol band. How Ritchie makes a tricky sound We want to see that. Disappointment Disappointment Disappointment
Deep Purple was poor at that time. You can see by the size of Ian Paice Drums. But they achieved fame and fortune, and they deserve. They are damn good.

Ginger Backer , Ian Paice , Mitch Mitchell , Charlie Watts...
They were drummers
🙏🙏🙏
Yes, very underrated but let’s face it, there was only one Bonzo !
Its becuase Bonham died
Absolutely, Ian Paice is an absolute beast. Whole "made in japan" is a 101% proof, one of many.
NO mike effects. Pure voice, Pure talent

One talented vocalist + four talented musicians = One HELL of a band!
ian gillan is probably one of the very few vocalists that hasn't lost his voice...and let's remember that he's 65 and still sings like 40 years ago

Keyboard and lead guitar...WOW!! Loved them in the 70s and still love them. Your music will rock on forever.
The older I get, the higher in my top ten Deep Purple climbs. This song is practically my anthem, given my love for driving across the US.

"Highway Star"
Nobody gonna take my car
I'm gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car
It's gonna break the speed of sound
Oooh it's a killing machine
It's got everything
Like a driving power big fat tyres
and everything
I love it and I need it
I bleed it yeah it's a wild hurricane
Alright hold tight
I'm a highway star
Nobody gonna take my girl
I'm gonna keep her to the end
Nobody gonna have my girl
She stays close on every bend
Oooh she's a killing machine
She's got everything
Like a moving mouth body control
and everything
I love her I need her
I seed her
Yeah She turns me on
Alright hold on tight
I'm a highway star
Nobody gonna take my head
I got speed inside my brain
Nobody gonna steal my head
Now that I'm on the road again
Oooh I'm in heaven again I've got everything
Like a moving ground an open road
and everything
I love it and I need it
I seed it
Eight cylinders all mine
Alright hold on tight
I'm a highway star
Nobody gonna take my car
I'm gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car
It's gonna break the speed of sound
Oooh it's a killing machine
It's got everything
Like a driving power big
fat tyres and everything
I love it and I need it
I bleed it
Yeah it's a wild hurricane
Alright hold on tight
I'm a highway star
I'm a highway star
I'm a highway star
