Morse is playing hard because of his distinct style, he is also battling arthritis so he had to re-invent his shredding style, and he did it successfully. When it comes to soulful playing they are equals in my book.
The age difference at the time is a big reason for some of the differences you state. Blackmore did some old DP tunes a few years back and sounded nothing like he did when younger, as we all.

Blackmore also has a much better sound from his Strat and amps in my opinion. Morse's is a bit thin, though he's a very melodic player.

About Steve Morse's original material, there are few who attempt it. it can get really complicated or intense and he always plays it smoothly, the ultimate test for skill.

No one can ever be better at it than the inventor/composer/original performer. Where Blackmore is concerned it's a strong affirmative by popular demand.
Dixie Dregs Pride o the Farm - that thing is not my cup of tea, but you should listen to it it's incredible. Very complete as a composition and in the middle of it is a Steve Morse solo that's like it's own composition. No one will ever play that thing as well as Morse or even really come close. Blackmore could probably learn it and even play it but he could not come close to Steve Morse's staccato attack precision, super clear no incidentals performance at around 160bpm. Blackmore is the coolest so he doesn't need to play anything else, but Morse's talent as a player and writer is much more versatile and skilled.
Ritchie was a guitar god ...... But a rude person too ! As a musician Steve is better !
Each has a character that cannot be replaced by one another. Salute to Steve Morse, although not his guitar style, he still plays Richie's style to please the audience.

I believe it doesn't get credit. Alot of the Morse Era has sold well in parts of Europe. Asia and South America. So in no way am I downing Steve. I hope his wife is doing well.

Not quite. RB wrote some great stuff, great player, but there's no comparison skill wise. Steve is one of a kind. He's playing RB stuff cause it's Purple songs. Ritchie could never play half of what Steve wrote.

Steve has always been a fantastic guitar player and rightly claims his spot to be one among the very best. To compare him with Ritchie, specially in a historic riff that Ritchie wrote in out of place. Many of great guitarists can play any Blackmore wrote flawlesly but none can ever replace Blackmore's sound. There is no substitude for originality.

I agree, it's not a very fair comparison. Balckmore wrote Highway Star, that gives him the home field advantage. Morse is soloing a Blackmore cover. He should be shown doing his own material.

That's the assessment one makes as a fan of Blackmore, but when simply comparing the two without knowing, who composed the masterpiece, Morse sounds and looks better to me, his technique, his devotion to the music, that he plays, he looks much more joyous and one with the music, while Ritchie is the perfectionist, who plays his own song, not more. Sometimes, like in this case, the one, who copies the song, looks way more enthusiastic and puts a lot more technique and dedication into the music. I like to compare it to AC/DC: we know, that Angus ain't the best guitarist in the world, but the unity of the band and the simple, powerful rock music they play, creates an unmatched energy field around them. I never felt such an elevating feeling, that's already there, before a band starts to play, which turns into ecstasy, when they're at the peak of a favorite song, and you want their concerts to never end, and at the end you just want to party and forget about the world

Согласен полностью...разделяю ваши взгляды...Это гений импровизации игры на гитаре,непревзойденный до сих пор...я не вижу больше такого гитариста...можно скопировать ,сыграть подобное,но так играть гитарой как Ричи,вряд-ли кто сможет..
Его слова - не нужно обязательно попадать в ноты,а создавать гармонию,до сих пор в силе...

Собственно Ритчи один из создателей hard-rock стиля DP, очень узнаваемого, неповторимого. Стив Морс не изменяя основы привнес свою технику, свои примочки, которые он весьма интенсивно использует. Ритчи в студийных работах безупречен, но на концертах ( California Jam, Made in Japan к примеру) у него соляки частенько просто запилы в никуда, без какого-нибудь музыкального смысла. Кстати на этом видео этоn vjvtyn тоже присутвует у Ритчи. У Стива как-то более осмысленные соло, особенно нравится Well Dressed Guitar.
@@user-su3jc3ne4m Это потому что Live - это шоу. И с точки зрения Ричи играть одно и то же по 3 концерта в неделю - скучно. Чистую выдроченную игру можно послушать и на дисках. Потому он в лайвах постоянно импровизировал. Этакая самозащита, дабы не свихнуться от усталости. А Морс просто играет по кругу то, что Блекмор написал раньше. Он не композитор и потому боится слажать.

Steve Morse was incredible in the Dixie Dregs. He is playing with arthritis in his wrist now. That's why he has to play more from the elbow now.
Yes indeed. It’s painful to watch. I saw him play right after he broke his wrist. He had a partial cast. I was grateful to see him perform, but as a manual therapist I thought it was a bad idea. He really should have taken time off to heal, but he shouldn’t have been on that skateboard in the first place. It’s pretty impressive that he was able to transition to playing from the elbow.

Ritchie Blackmore is a pioneer of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. This man, along with a couple of 5-6 other great mucisians of his era, moved music many steps forward. Therefore thia comparison is unfair for both those two gentlemen.

You know, from a guitar playing aspect, both men are excellent. Steve is younger so currently, he would be the superior technical player right now. But now we get to the part that all Deep Purple fans care about the most. Ritchie created and composed all the classic / iconic material that makes Deep Purple what they are and the stuff Steve makes a great living off of today.
Blackmore, no doubt ! but not easy for Steve Morse to be always compared with such a genius.

I have been heavily in to Deep Purple and Ritchie since the early days. Shades of Deep Purple, Book of Taliesin etc. I bought Come Hell or High Water on VHS. It was a PAINFUL watch. Seeing a band you loved for over 20 years falling apart. It was obvious Ritchie had 'left' in his own mind. He was going through the motions, when he deigned to reappear on stage when he chose to.
However it was Jon Lord who gave the ultimate accolade in the interview. He said to Steve Morse;
" Don.t try to fill 'Blackers' shoes; nobody could. Bring your own shoes".
Steve is a good guitarist, he plays like a apassionate man who deserved more time to stay with the band and carry on, but Ritchie is a man from another world.

никогда не был без ума от ДП, только с появлением Ковердейла начал частенько слушать отделные их песенки, но Блэкмор - Явление. Морс - просто лось.
Не понимаю о каком сравнении может идти речь. Гениальная игра Ричи и набор нот «под мелодию» Морса. Соло должно быть не просто быстрое и техничное, но и мелодически безупречное при этом. Методизма и изяществам у Морса практически нет. Только пол народное английское треньканье получается косить.

Ian and Ritchie was no good friends in the early years of Deep Purple Mark II. It stop when Ian and Roger leave the band. But the intermezzo with Ian's voice in duet with Ritchie guitar is great.

@@mrmojorisin6496 I don't think we're looking at the same video. If Morse looks like he's dying, it's probably of boredom from all the repetition. Have you heard the chromatic stuff he does, Tremolo-picked, on the solo albums like High Tension Wires or Stand Up?
I give Richie all the credit in the world for being a hard rock/shred innovator, but Morse could play Richie's licks with ease. The same could not be said for the reverse.
Ritchie was one-fifth of the band. Jon Lord and Ian Gillan's parts were crucial as well. The musical direction was set by Jon and Richie both.

They really seemed to have fun with Steve. I think Jon really liked trading leads with him and improvising. Purpendicular was a really great album. Ritchie, not afraid of going into uncharted territory, yet when he applied discipline the results were unique and timeless. Ritchie liked to fire band members but I think he was right. Purple was supposed to be Roundabout with members coming and going. That’s really what happened. Turnover brought In Rock, Burn and even Come Taste the Band. Later, Purpendicular. Some of their best work. The dynamics of long lived bands are pretty interesting.

Современные скрипки ничем не уступают знаменитым "Страдивари", а то и превосходят их. "Страдивари" знамениты скорее людьми, которые на них играли. Музыка Блэкмора и манера игры останутся навечно. Великие музыканты, такие как Стив Морс, не станут его копировать - будут играть по-своему.
Ritchie always steps up to the plate and gets the job done on the studio albums, but sometimes in a live performances there can be a lot of b.s.
As an absolute disciple of his influence, i will agree. I think that often times his nerves got the best of him. He's a shy guy/insecure and it shows sometimes. Other times he's fantastic. His playing is as moody as he is. I felt like in the 90's when nobody cared his playing was the best ever. Like he could just relax. His playing with Blackmore's Night is also fantastic. Not a huge fan of the band but as a longtime Blackmore fan, he is exceptional.

So true, back in the early 70's he was way out ahead of all the other players. So many classic solo's too, there's several on every single recording of his throughout that entire decade.

Непонятно, как сравнивать. Морс из концерта в концерт профессионально и тщательно воспроизводит студийный блэкморовский вариант (с очень малой вариацией в конце). У самого же Блэкмора нет двух одинаковых исполнений, это его принцип. Он абсолютно свободен в том, что сам сотворил.
Формальная техника у Морса, что ни говори, как минимум не хуже блэкморовской. Но эта свобода Ричи, этот полёт...
если брать вот эти соло на видео то морс обьектвино лучше сыграл чем блекомор по чистоте и качеству и красоте тоже у блекмора гРЯзновато сыграно дргоуй вопрос что он это сочинил соло а кто сочинил тот и лУчший))

I rarely connect as I am logged on in my real name, but... I love both these guitarists and have been fortunate enough to work with both. This is an unfair comparison. Steve is replicating one of Ritchie's solos, which others can do to the note, but the comparison should be with one of Steve's compositions such as Cruise Control. They are both great! However, Ritchie is my all-time favorite guitarist and composer, because it's the style of music I love the most. Gary Moore right there also. My good friend Steve Morse or k just as fine a guitarist and composer, so just prefer Richie's style of music, and at that style he is the greater ever!
I was once mixing an Yngwie track at Cherokee Studios in LA late one night when one of the new, hot guitarists (intentionally withholding his name) barged in, pointed at Yngwie on the back and road to me "you're gonna wanna work with me, I can play all of his solos" I looked back at Yngwie who said "yes, but can you play any of your own?" And there you have it!

Steve just tries to repeat what Blackmore invented 5 decades ago. I can't compare anyone in this world to Ritchie, I grew up listening his playings.
This is BLACKMORE's solo, he invented it, and therefore put his soul there. STEVE simply replayed the finished material, to which he added his unnecessary guitar whistles. RITCHIE - PET ! 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🍷🍾🇺🇦 .

To the ass of his technique, when there is no SOUL AND TASTE! His guitar whistling and creaking - overwhelmed all the masterpieces of DEEP PURPLE, which the LORD and BLACKMORE created . Whatever technique RICHIE has, it's as easy and delicious to play as he is - you have to have his head and imagination , which is not possible .

Of course Steve as a person has a soul, but his soul in DEEP PURPLE is not a soul, and I said it not contemptuously as you think, I said it is quite normal and correct, because the albums and his game with his style in DEEP PURPLE - turned a BIG band into a group called STEVE MORSE BAND. In a band like FLYING COLORS, where he plays with MIKE PORTNOY - his style and soul are quite suitable for that music, but in DEEP PURPLE - it's just nonsense, and it's not his technique, but as I said - in taste and feeling that comes from the SOUL. This is a thing that neither technique nor level will help. And he is definitely a good guitarist in his style. Even Satriani fit better into the sound and style of DEEP PURPLE (this is my personal opinion).
Ritchie has quit Deep Purple flat in the middle of a tour 27 years ago. His choice.

@Chris Manzi “not so sure his thumb would get stuck between strings”.. he can play using all ten fingers very well.. he’s been doing the acoustic thing for quite some time... he once said in an interview that his guitar teacher taught him to play using all ten fingers and no other way...

С приходом Морса в Пепл, я бы назвал группу Стив Морс, и группа Deep Purple. Я ни в коем случае не принижаю талант и виртуозность этого замечательного гитариста, но если я на концерт Пепл, то я хочу слушать их произведения максимально приближенные к оригиналу. Если к новому клавишнику претензий нет, ибо он играет свои партии один в один как Лорд ( и по звуку и по содержанию), то Морс играет исключительно свою музыку. Уж если ты работаешь в таком легендарном коллективе, то уж будь так любезен играть один в один, как играл Блекмор. А то как то мне не в кайф слушать любимую мной, и я думаю очень многими, Дым над водой, с дикими запилами которые абсолютно не в кассу, которыми просто уродует песню Морс. Есть, конечно же, более виртуозные гитаристы чем Блекмор. Но дело в том, что такой как Блекмор только один. И это сам Блекмор. А остальные просто виртуозные гитаристы. А Блекмор просто обычный Гений. И не надо его ни с кем сравнивать. Просто не надо, и всё......
Очень сомневаюсь, что музыканты ДП, после завершения контракта Джо Сатриани с ДП в 1994 году, единодушно проголосовав, за приглашение Стива Морса в команду, имели в виду, что он будет играть ( снимать) один в один сольные партии Блэкмора..., гитаристов -сдирщиков (слухачей) в мире рок музыки полным полно, для этого не надо быть известным гитаристом, просто надо быть гитаристом с хорошим слухом...Стив Морс известный и признанный в мире гитарист, композитор и аранжировщик, со своим видением и манерой игры, вот таким он, Стив Морс, и нужен был музыкантам ДП и... не зря же, они, совместно выпустили 8 (восемь) альбомов ДП, проведя, бесчисленное количество концертных турне по всему миру, в течение 28 лет...

Blackmore is so important for the true sound of Deep Purple that I like. I saw him a few times in Rainbow, Deep purple (even in 93) and in Blackmore's night. Morse is a very good guitarist, but for me in Deep Purple his tone does not fit what most of the MK2 songs require. Once I saw him with the band performing concerto. There was no click for me. The whole show I missed Ritchies sound. After that concert I decided to never see Purple live again, even though they brought in Ronnie Dio for the show.
But to be honest, it is a silly comparisson. Ritchie left the band in 93, Morse is their current guitarist and in their newer albums he is alright. Purple is a different band now.
Blackmore is one of the greatest, most influencial guitarists ever, Steve Morse is just a very good one. No comparisson
Now probably not be is 75 but back at that time. Oh yeah could play Steve Morse or anyone else's stuff it would take time but Ritchie easily had the speed and skill but why? Ritchie Blackmore's style is way cooler than any of the so called shedders.
Steve Morse is an excellent guitar and not some wimpy shedder.
If you asked Ritchie he would probably say Steve is technically better guys like him are more technically educated no doubt thanPage or even Ritchie Blackmore but I would way rather listen to Blackmore or Page than these shedders who all sound the same. Dale
Then simply look at that Deep Purple disbanded when Blackmore DECIDED to leave and don't listen what they have released since then. That's all.

No comparison.... Morse is a great guitarist.. Richie is pure genious.. trully gifted composer.. he has the greatest arrangements.. Richie Django Reinhardt and Eddie Van Halen play whatever they feel and it sounds great.

I have never nor will ever be okay with Steve covering Ritchie's music, Steve does not have the right feeling about his technique to properly sell Ritchie's music to me, but that said, I love the music Steve writes with these guys it takes them to very cool place, his work with Dixie Dregs and The Steve Morse Band was all masterful compositions and high level straight up guitar Badassery, you don't win Best All around Guitar Player 5/6 years in a row by luck or accident he is truly one the gods.
However so is Ritchie Blackmore, and Ritchie is a stand alone guitar player, I love Ritchie and he was/is so important to the world of guitar and always will be.
So if the question here is "is Steve Morse better at playing Ritchie Blackmores music than Ritchie "? The answer is "absolutely not" no more than Ritchie would be at playing Steve's music, they both have their own voice and speak very differently and have powers all their own, I was 10 when "Machine Head" came out and I first learned of Ritchie Blackmore and Deep Purple, they defined "cool" and Ritchie's guitar playing changed my young life as did Jimmy page and Tony Iommi, I was a senior in high school in 1980 when I first heard "Dregs Of The Earth" and again my life changed, being a young guitar player by that time I thought I'd just heard the guitar of God most definitely intensified just a wee bit by bong hits of Colombian gold 😎 but, I had never heard anyone like him before and he immediately became a guitar hero. These guys both have something very special that has made the world of guitar unique powerful and exciting for me and I am happy for a world which both reign over us mere mortals✌🏼️
