  • Need to heat up some water in a simple way? I used a pool heater, a cheap pump and a battery to take 20 gallons of water from 50f to 70f in 4 hours with a 40F air temp and partly cloudy skies. Fun project!
a 55 gallon barrel of water with 2 of these heating mats is probably the easiest solution for a green house. Thermal mass

Curious if this, in combination with the sand heater, have some tubing also routed in that sand? would that combination extend the heat output to the mat?

Eh. I don't think you'll have any benefit. The purpose of this particular project is to heat water in the cheapest way possible. This is like $60 in parts. The purpose of the sand battery is to get as hot as possible in a cost effective manner. This water heater, since it's based on direct solar heat, is very sensitive to cloud cover

Check out my sand battery video. i used a water heater element for that on Solar. I don't know where you're getting 480w of solar for $200 though.
