Like Rose said: I can send the kids to school on a bus and I won't see them for 9 hours, the we have 3 hours together and they go to bed. Homeschooling the takes 2-3 hours and they can do what they want for the rest of the day. Win-win!
Great fun listening to youth express their dreams and goals and always great to see animals and humans working together. Those dogs bred for pulling sleds are happiest pulling sled,. I am sure I saw smiles on their faces as they ripped by the camera. And I am sure the young man is never happier than when riding sled. Amazing what a good book can do.

Dear Rose and Jeff, thanks so much for all your videos. It’s really great getting to see such an outstanding family and all the great activities you and your young ladies take part in. It was also great to see Dave and his family as well. I wish all the best to all the younger set out there. And you, not so old folks too. Looking forward to seeing your garden this year. You have put much work into it over the past few years. Just getting ready for the gardening season here in Saskatchewan, but I’ll be doing it in the garage for now. We are supposed to get a blizzard tonight and tomorrow. Cheers from the Prairies eh. ❤️
Jeff: "Powerful and dangerous. I've been called that before." Silas: "Not by me." Such a Dave comeback! Great video...I teared up at the end. Good luck in the big race, Silas!
Very good video! Thanks for sharing! I was given the opportunity to go on a dog sled ride when I lived in North Pole, AK - It was a beautiful experience! What fun!
I have said it before and I will say it again. This family is filled with such interesting and talented people and then there is Jeff. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂we love Jeff also.
This is the original 4 wheeler. It takes guts, maturity and foresight to turn out as good as this kid. Good job mom and dad. He has earned his respect by others.
the majority of todays 16 yo of the electronic age will never experience what this young man has already , and your children will be prepared to handle any challenges life throws at them , and i suspect they will have an off the charts sense of humor which is most important .keep the videos coming ,smiles are always enjoyed here in Nfld
I was just thinking, "he seems a lot like Dave", when Hot Dave appears. This young man's demeanour seems very appropriate for someone working so closely with animals - calm, interested, smart and interesting. Nice vid, thank you.
Being from north queenland Australia where its midnight and currently 27 degrees ☀️ this looks like great fun. Set something up so we can contribute and really get you set up to race , because its gonna cost...and I'm sure there are plenty here that would love to help , that's what it's all about 👍
Keep us informed if a Go Fund Me site gets set up. Lots of us would love to help him along on his life's path and we may miss out on giving him a hand up. Great video and a great surge of pride in Silas and his calm demeanor. Yup, you grow 'em fine up there in Canada!
I knew this was Dave's son before I read the comments. The mannerisms are precisely the same as his dad. This 16 year old is very mature, by todays standards. I wish you luck in your dog sledding adventures.
Silas should consider starting a RUclips channel focusing on dog sledding...what it takes to grow a team, build a sled, history of dog sledding, interviewing some of the elite sledders. The YT revenue from the channel could help fund the cost of his adventures until he can become self sustaining should he choose to make a career of it. And the snarky tall supporter at home could be a regular guest with added entertainment. 😉
Hope the young man does well and keeps at it. Your off grid families seem to produce some of the most balanced Children! Keep doing what you are doing.
Yes we would love to see some coverage of his adventure and some updates on how the training of the new members of the team are doing. I love that he built his own sled. I love the independence of the youngsters your growing over there!
25 years ago I too read Gary Paulsen's book "Winterdance" and was inspired to build a dog sled out of snow skis and 2X2's that my two huskies pulled. Had a lot of fun for a couple of years, but never took it any further than that. Congratulations to this young man!
That was great it's so great to see Family's close and together. That's a great way to bring children up. You could feel how greatful he was to get 2 more dog's. Good Luck 😃 God's Blessings on all your adventures
I love the way you guys live ! It’s natural and I hate when other people hate on you guys because to me if you guys aren’t hurting other people I see no wrong in this. When the world ends at least you guys will have a chance at living because others won’t !
easy as pie to help support this inspiring young man. Hope lots of people help him start. Keeping dogs isnt cheap, also there will be entry fees, equipment, travel and incidentals none of which are cheap, Come on people invest in the future and the future of this kid! this was a great video ! Im thinking this determined young man might have a chance in the race at least to place or not he will finish
It is so cool to see a kid with a healthy passion. Love the sled. I think Blaze King needs to step up as a sponsor for the dog team Thanks for sharing.
This environment is the only place to bring up young children, being outside doing stuff, not sitting in your room on computers , fresh air getting the exercise your body needs. Living life as it should be. 10 outer 10. Guys. Love it
Happy Birthday young man. I look forward to watching you run in, and WIN the race next winter. It would be great if Jeff would show some videos of your training the dogs over the next year in preparation for the race.
It was great to see such a genuine and affectionate display of love and appreciation, at the birthday gift from his folks. He also seems to have inherited Dave's modest sense of humor. "I come in 2nd, when the dogs want to run."
Great story!!! Great parents!!! You can tell the book he read started a fire in his soul that will last a life time. It is so refreshing to see parents encourage there children like you all do.
Love your videos , I’m excited for Silas , you can tell this is a passion of his and something he gets excited about , I’m hoping you will share more of his story when he goes to the race ..... Keep up the great videos 😃👍
Dave, I’m sure there is money to be made sledding. There’s vacationers that may pay for sled adventures, there’s rescue or survey missions he could contract out for. Who knows, the opportunities are endless. He could even write his own book. “Whooo let the dogs out?” By Sledding Silas
I was thinking along the same lines, like delivering supplies, packages or parcels to those that have problems getting out or just don't want to in the winter. Best of luck to Silas. This was a year ago, do we get an update Jeff?
Well done Silas! I am cheering for you. I hope you get two fast dogs with lots of endurance! So fun! Life is always better with dogs. Gridlessness, definitely keep us informed on how Silas is doing. Home-schooling.
