I lived off-grid in the mountains, 8 miles from the nearest road, for a decade. There was a small spring at the bottom of the property. At first I would fill a 5 gallon jug with water, tie it to a backpack frame and carry it back up to camp. Eventually I came up with a 1,000 gallon wooden tank that I mounted 15 foot up between three pine trees. The repurposed an old generator motor to run a pump, and pumped water up to the tank. For hot water in the summer I used a 100 foot coil of black PVC pipe laying on the ground in the sun. It would sometimes get too hot and I would need to drag half of the coil into the shade. For hot water in the winter I built a wood stove using construction bricks, and put a coil of copper tubing in the flu. It was amazingly sufficient and I would need to careful not to build too big of a fire in it or it would turn the water into steam. It also doubled as an outdoor stove for cooking on. --- Even though I moved on-grid 20-some years ago, have grid electricity and a nice well for water, and now live the closest I have lived to "civilization" (15 miles to the nearest town) I still do a lot of things the same as I learned to do while living off-grid.

I love that you have a little industry going on of carpentry, leather works, baking, butchering cooking, grilling and a few other survival things without buildings, because when a group of collonists set up for a new village they have to get started right out of their wagons and tents and then before long they have shops and houses, and then a village. I wonder if there is an approved layout that everybody uses so there is a town square and courthouse so a heirarchy of criminal corruption and can begin.

Well I survived alone and off-grid for 3 months at a remote cattle station, 100km to nearest town, 40km to next property. I was there as a caretaker while the owners were away for 3-4 weeks at horse events and we got record ran and they couldn't get back in to the homestead and of course I couldn't get out.
Lots more to the story, but the main difference to your area is that apart from the recent rain, the 1 million acre place is effectively an arid desert.

I have been to middle of nowhere in Nova Scotia, as a child. My parents took all of us 7 kids on a 1600 mile road trip from Michigan ( an incredible feat in and of itself🙏) . Stayed in a campground in Margaree Bay(?) on Cape Breton while visiting relatives . Met a friendly local there who took us on a ride in his Land Cruiser off road. Seen some beautiful scenery and met a family he knew that lived off-grid, like real” Hillbillies” as we referred to them back then. That little excursion left us in awe and with permanent positive memories. Beautiful Province you got there 😃

Alanna- thank you for commenting on our Titan Stove. It actually is quite easy to control the heat and cook with typical cookware without burning food. With a little practice you can run it from a simmer to a raging boil merely by adjusting the size and volume of the bio mass you are feeding. More smaller sticks= max heat. Fewer larger sticks=lower heat that requires less feeding. Hope this helps.

The size of your transport determines how and what you can do to survive. A Geo Metro allows very basic features whereas a motorhome allows more capabilities. If the motorhome runs out of gas the Geo Metro can go further with less. I lived out of my car for about a year. I couldn't use a microwave oven but I did have a propane stove. One pan, one kettle, not much else.

    Nice setup you have..
Of course it takes money to even get started, that's a big problem for a lot of people..
And it's so cool that you have friends doing it with you, makes the world of difference..
Great stove.. you must have a good source of water nearby to get all that shower water etc..
Many blessings to you all on your adventures in survival..
    you got a great start💖💖💖
