When she gets back into her superlative Jazz roots, there is nothing stopping her, nothing. THIS is REAL music at the highest level. I will say this now at 18 years of Age...and there are literally decades of unbelievable Angelina music ahead of us. I will likely not be around to see it but I am right now and will savor every moment I can. Was looking forward to your reaction to this one, no disappointment.

On a technical note, one of the things I love in jazz and r&b that you don't hear in pop or rock are moving inner voices to chords rather than block chords. This results in delicious substitutions to simple triads and so much more subtle colors to the changes which complement the complexity of emotional expression in this interpretation. You don't have to be an expert in 7ths 9ths and alt chords to appreciate this. Just listen to the beautiful counter melodies that Toby and Lauren are injecting inside the harmonic quiet comping behind Angelina. The results are almost as tear provoking as Angelina's masterful vocal expression. This all gets lost in the big sound rock version of this. I think that this is one of Toby's goals in all these Piano Diaries renditions of his songs and it sure is beautiful.❤
Hi Aron. First of all, thank you for this excellent reaction. I've been following Angelina for 4 years now and have often seen and heard people refer to how she makes them feel as being wrapped in a warm blanket. I always thought that was a nice sentiment but didn't really get it. Until now. From the first time I heard this version, that is exactly how it makes me feel. To me, it doesn't even matter what the lyrics are (although I totally got what she was saying from the first time I heard it) her voice just feels so soothing and almost nurturing. I could listen to this endlessly. And to think that this is just a taste of what the future holds in store. I can't wait.
Angelina had been putting out jazzy versions of songs for 11 years. There are uoung di gers now grew up with her. We are hearing quote a few new artists who have that jazzier sound. So we do need yo get a move on.😊

What I felt listening to this was the anguish felt coming to this point in ending a possibly poisonous disingenuous relationship. She has said this was about someone she still loves but is no longer in her life. Sometimes we must choose to move on but it is not always easy dealing with the recrimination you may feel rejecting another person, even if it may be the right choice. Life can be dammed complicated. It all comes through in this performance.❤
I first saw her when she was 7 in Norway Got Talent, and I immediately knew that she was going to a legendary artist. She's taken influence from every jazz artist she has ever listened to and learnt how to combine them into something of her own. And she's definitely channeling Amy Winehouse too.

This is one serious great song. The instrumentation is perfect. Angelina will never stop surprising us with her music and her voice. I can not analyze anything, but I think this one is an instant legendary song.

I think maybe this was meant to be the true meaning of the song when Jordan originally wrote the lyrics and Toby turned it into a pop version, which is maybe why she left it off the Old Enough EP? Just a thought. This version matches her character more than the official version, I believe.

I think I just figured out why every time Angelina does something other worldly with her voice and her musical technology i cannot hold back the tear in my eye! The (my) problem when I hear her do things vocally that I know is just not normal for a child her age (and yes, to me she is still a child - she has just grown up too fast over the last 10 years for me to stay ahead of her! Just think, she wrote much if not all of this song at the age of 16! Then think of all the complexities and mood changes you talked about in this song at the age of 18! Now think about what she will be doing with her voice and music 10, 15, even 20 or more years from now! This is what gets my emotions turned upside down because I know that at 82 now, more than likely, I will not be around even 10 years from now to hear what she is doing musically! Not real. Show me you're a fighter, that's how you lost all your worth." She speaks the truth in that moment. An empathic woman experiences letting go of relationships with great pain, agony and sorrow. She weeps because she was not seen or heard. Romantic roses are red, by long tradition. This version is so intimate, so full of heart. If this is autobiographical (she says her own songs are), then you've got an empathic woman with a super strong artistic drive that she has decided to make first priority. She sees through romantic gestures (the down side of being empathic). Anyway, I believe women are able to understand this at a deeper level. The level that almost has no words. The original key for bad valentine is B min...whereas the jazz version is G min half steps down to a D7 resolve..very similar to the chord patterns used in the led zeppelin song stairway to heaven but different key.

I think maybe this was meant to be the true meaning of the song when Jordan originally wrote the lyrics and Toby turned it into a pop version, which is maybe why she left it off the Old Enough EP? Just a thought. This version matches her character more than the official version, I believe.

I think I just figured out why every time Angelina does something other worldly with her voice and her musical technology i cannot hold back the tear in my eye! The (my) problem when I hear her do things vocally that I know is just not normal for a child her age (and yes, to me she is still a child - she has just grown up too fast over the last 10 years for me to stay ahead of her! Just think, she wrote much if not all of this song at the age of 16! Then think of all the complexities and mood changes you talked about in this song at the age of 18! Now think about what she will be doing with her voice and music 10, 15, even 20 or more years from now! This is what gets my emotions turned upside down because I know that at 82 now, more than likely, I will not be around even 10 years from now to hear what she is doing musically! I can only hope that I will be some place where I can look down on her and hear her wonderful voice! Oh, and Aaron, wonderful reaction as I have come to always expect from you!

I think the huge difference here is that Toby knows how to capitalize on Angelina's strength more than anyone else. And let's be reminded that at 18 she's still far from her prime....and that's scary in a beautiful way.

Angelina gives us a nostalgic, sentimental look at that relationship rather than the harsher, not-my-fault attitude of the original.
You can’t compare the versions. They are different songs. The only common element is that both of them are perfect.

What she creates in that indescribable jazz version is absolutely astonishing, even for the apparent ease with which she does it, in fact the instrumental accompaniment is little more than a simple pleasant decoration, her voice alone is enough to reproduce the emotional effect of an entire orchestra. What an extraordinary artist she is becoming, I understand well why Toby is enraptured by her talent, being able to collaborate with a singer like her leaves a boundless space to the imagination, you probably can't even think of what vocal wonders she can achieve. The original key for bad valentine is B min...whereas the jazz version is G min half steps down to a D7 resolve..very similar to the chord patterns used in the led zeppelin song stairway to heaven but different key.
