@@wojtryb I updated it and played around for a while. But I noticed something was off. The font or the ui is slightly bigger than before. the brush icons in the brush preset docker is also slightly larger.not a big deal but Is there a way to reduce this?
It's the part of UI tweaks. Buttons are now unifiedly borderless - the icon can be larger using the same amount of space. In terms of text size, I believe now you can tweak it somewhere in the settings.
Nah, everybody starts there. It just takes time and effort to learn things. After all skills aren't a guarantee of fun while creating - if you just learn to enjoy the process and not the outcome, it should be fine ;)
I'm way too attached to and very happy with CSP but Krita is such a lovely free option! ^^ I also still use it sometimes whenever I need to create tileable textures (aka relatively frequently) as the one thing CSP is missing for me is Krita's wraparound mode :c
Well, I am trying to learn to use Krita now. In my opinion the main issue I face as a new user in Krita is that my fingers remember shortcuts from PS (like picking color with alt, deselect with ctrl+d, etc.). I don't know that Krita have PS compatible option. I will give it a try and thanks for the video.
aw man i was excited when you show the way of having a real eraser and to switch using (b) and (e) like on every other program but it doesn't work that well in practice. Unless you only use 1 brush this method is super clunky, you will need to bind to (b) the brush you are currently using and rebind when you are going to use another one. Anyway, it is and improvement since the last time i use krita, maybe next version.
@@wojtryb I don't get it, this have the exact same behavior shown in the video but with a different interface. I appreciate your help but couldn't manage to install three slots, that is indeed is the behavior i want. Is kinda funny to see people arguing over such a common thing on that thread, didn't know this was such a contentious issue, like of course people find this behavior weird, is a feature that is literally everywhere. Is not like you are getting anything in return, you can paint with alpha on other programs too... what a read.
I'm personally a little out of the discussion as I like the default behavior. As you can see it's not so obvious thing. Having the feature implemented 3 times is confusing, removing current implementation breaks people's workflows, even when somebody does what a few people requested, it turns out everybody wanted something a bit different...
No idea. I never used any of these. I'd say the brush engine is not for blindly imitating traditional media, but rather easily getting some graphical design ideas, that are specific to digital art. As both krita and my packs being free, the easiest way to find out is just too check it, if you have such a specific expectations.
I switched from Paint Tool Sai 2 to Krita about one to two months ago. I guess I got used to PTS's simplicity and barely used what Krita can truly bring lmao Also you can change the shape of the color wheel??? Holy crap, that changes everything (I have a hard time with the triangle one).
Is it like a problem? You'll find some toxic people everywhere, but overall, krita community is growing, and general knowledge about it's existence seems to be getting better, so...
This program is really good, I was looking at it at a distance for a few years because Photoshop was my main painting app. I have to say that after working with krita for a while, it's hard going back to Photoshop, it feels outdated by comparison.
Glad to hear that. I have little comparison, as before I only used GIMP. Right now CSP is considered out main "competitor", as it's cheap, and they really seem to care about adding painting related features. I believe PS mostly relies on it's past - people being used to it after many years, tutorials, resources... But feature-wise, they start to fall behind.
Is it better than photoshop now? I learned Photoshop to an extent where I could do almost everything possible within the programm, the only thing holding me back are my drawing and painting skills. I am considering to maybe just learn krita instead and get good on that program, if its easier and better for digital art then I might even switch from photoshop.
That's personal preference. Krita is open for new users - you can download it in 10 min and check it out for free. Then you can always go back and forth. Switching software won't add you any painting skills, but it's better to learn using the interface that feels more organic to you.
Btw krita's animation features are better than 95% of animation programs which is interesting considering krita isn't even an animation software in the first place
Yes, there's been quite a revamp of animation features in 5.0. I didn't mention them, as I was never that much into 2D animation, but if somebody is, krita is definitely worth checking out.
I can't tell with the first search what processor your does your Android tablet have. If you don't want to try those .apk one after the other, you can ask for guidance on krita-artists.org
One of my issue with Krita, which stop me to use it, is whenever i draw something (as simple as making a line) theres a delay between what i put on the canvas and when my pen is of the canvas like a 2-3 sec... its the only program for me that does that... and my laptop isnt the problem...
It's hard for me to say what's the issue here. Assuming win10 I would check how it works with switched wintab/windows ink driver, and canvas acceleration of openGL/Angle. You can also ask on krita-artists.org
Anyone know why most of my brushes behave as a highlighter. ive tried resetting things, deleting temp folders. i'm really frustrated with this i dont know what ive done wrong.
It sounds like you paint on a layer with blending mode different than "normal", or reduced opacity. It may be hard to get help without screenshots and more precise description, so the better option would be to write a post on krita-artists.org
Bad performance usually comes from a weak CPU. You can check out how it works on smaller brush sizes (which usually kind of require smaller canvas size, at least at the beginning). If the lag is not dependent on the brush size, and happens even on realy small ones, you can try to switch wintab/windows ink driver in the settings, switch canvas acceleration between openGL and angle, and finally ask for more help on krita-artists.org
i just wish for an easy " export full configurations " setting, so you can export all the shortcuts, 10 brushes seting, etc etc " idk why krita randomly deletes everything on my pc.
Basically for win10 all the settings are stored in one file: %LOCALAPPDATA%\kritarc while all resources like brushes, themes and exported shortcut schemes are in one folder: %APPDATA%\krita\ By copying those two directories and then replacing them, you should be able to move or recover your configuration. It's highly unlikely krita deleted those resources - I would suspect some cleaner app or something of that sort. Since Krita 5 you can change location of Krita resource folder in the settings, so maybe consider changing it to location not so system related.
Well, I can't animate even with the keyboard shortcuts ;) It's best to ask for tips on krita-artists.org - maybe there are people there who animate on Android tablets. I guess there are some basic gesture shortcuts for pan/zoom... but without external keyboard you'd have to rely on GUI.
@@wojtryb No, things like adding frames and switching layers are tied exclusively to keyboard shortcuts and right-click context menus. It is not a matter of looking for help, the GUI was designed to not include buttons for critical features. I don't know if that's changed for 5.0 though.
Installing krita 5 over 4 should not change your settings or resources. If you're really worried about them make a backup (which you should have anyway) by going to settings > manage resources > open resource folder. This opens "krita" folder which you can backup on pendrive or online cloud. But really, it should be safe to upgrade.
The main way is to download krita from the official website, and install it, exactly like you did with the current version. It will overwrite the existing one, but keeping your settings and brushes. If you want to be super careful, you can download a portable version which not overwrites your current install.
I'm sorry if this sounds stupid, but does anybody know how to get the opacity slider on the toolbar at the top? When I installed Krita 5.0, I got two size sliders.

Updating krita will not delete your customization. On upgrade from 4.x.x to 5.0.2 you will only lose custom tags once, as they were changed significantly in the code. To keep your brushes safe, go to settings > manage resources > open resource folder, and make a copy of this 'krita' folder which will get open. Keep it on a pendrive or cloud drive. Your settings are stored in kritarc file, but it's location depends on the system you use. You can make a backup if it too. But update won't delete them.
@@giihuwu5688 You are not supposed to move 'krita' folder to another location, just make a copy of it somewhere else. If you did move it, copy it from the safe place to where it was
I don't know what you did, but if you have this 'krita' directory with your presets (wherever you moved it), click on it, copy with ctrl+c, in krita go to settings > manage resources > open resource folder, go one directory up, delete this 'krita' directory and press ctrl+v to paste the right one you have in clipboard.
it is normal that i don't have access to the saturarion filter layer ? sometimes I used it to have more vibrants colours in my painting . Is it because you have an payable version or is it normal ?
You can adjust saturation in filter>adjust>HSV adjustment. I believe the default is ctrl+u (make sure to turn on the button on bottom left on its pop-up for easy access to other filters). We are legally not allowed to have any features behind a paywall - paid krita is only a way of supporting the devs, but it has to be the exact same as the one you download for free.
No, it's a Pandora box. You add some basic 3D model overview, and people start asking for posing rigged models, adjusting the light, coloring the model elements and dynamically painting textures... We just can't afford to be become another blender.
But overall that's a huge task that would have to be actively maintained by somebody for months and years. It's all about getting the right priority of things, and good work/benefit ratio. Even with this feature basic implementation, you'd still need a 3D software for anything more complex.
Yes. Every filter can be used non-destructively as a filter mask under a layer or a group. You can have multiple of those under one layer. Right click on a layer, and add > filter mask, or trough filter menu: use as mask instead of just applying. Thanks :)

This is awesome
And ..
You have a voice like Viktor from arcane netflix series
Oh damn, you're right :D
yesss finalllyy!!!!!
Long wait for sure, but I'm sure it was worth it ;)
@@wojtryb I updated it and played around for a while.
Nice to see Krita get even better, its too bad that while the program improves my art skills certainly do not lol :P
I also still use it sometimes whenever I need to create tileable textures (aka relatively frequently) as the one thing CSP is missing for me is Krita's wraparound mode :c
Great! After all it's important we use software that fits us best.
CSP grows so fast, I'm sure warparound mode will come there sooner or later.
I don't know how accurate is it, and what exact feature equivalents are missing, but I hope that helps with your issue.
Cool video, thanks! I've just found there's a new Krita and your introduction was super helpful! Btw, can I find more of your art somewhere? :)
I'm glad it was! You can look at www.artstation.com/wojtryb or look for "wojtryb" on twitter, though I didn't have that much new stuff lately :)
1:55 THANK YOU! I've wasted so much time having to navigate to the menu.
Yes! There is no standard for those shortcuts, but it's so important for me to be able to at least reset rotation very fast.
God thank you so much for this video!
You're welcome ;)
Спасибо-thanks
aw man i was excited when you show the way of having a real eraser and to switch using (b) and (e) like on every other program but it doesn't work that well in practice. Unless you only use 1 brush this method is super clunky, you will need to bind to (b) the brush you are currently using and rebind when you are going to use another one. Anyway, it is and improvement since the last time i use krita, maybe next version.
Then check out the free plugins: buli brush switch (krita-artists.org/t/buli-brush-switch/32677?u=wojtryb) or three slots.
Can Krita currently imitate realistic oil painting and acrylic painting.... at the level of Corel 2021,Rebelle,Artrage?
I guess I got used to PTS's simplicity and barely used what Krita can truly bring lmao
Also you can change the shape of the color wheel??? Holy crap, that changes everything (I have a hard time with the triangle one).
Yeah, I'm very used to square color selector since I worked with GIMP 6 years ago.
But in krita there are a lot of customization possibilities.
This video was so good and I dont even paint
why do people keep crapping on Krita? i genuinely want to know
Is it like a problem?
But feature-wise, they start to fall behind.
super!
wooo!
Thanks
No problem
Cool 👍
Is it better than photoshop now? I learned Photoshop to an extent where I could do almost everything possible within the programm, the only thing holding me back are my drawing and painting skills. I am considering to maybe just learn krita instead and get good on that program, if its easier and better for digital art then I might even switch from photoshop.
That's personal preference.
Krita is open for new users - you can download it in 10 min and check it out for free. Then you can always go back and forth.
Switching software won't add you any painting skills, but it's better to learn using the interface that feels more organic to you.
Good tutorial. Can you make one with animation and shortcuts? Thank you.
There is a video about keyboard shortcuts already. I won't make a video about animation, as I'm not into animation at all :)
I have a drawing tablet, how tf do I use krita?? I’ve been winging it but it’s so confusing
been using krita for 3 years, didn't know about many of these features and shortcuts. Lol
So glad you found this video useful :)
Btw krita's animation features are better than 95% of animation programs which is interesting considering krita isn't even an animation software in the first place
Yes, there's been quite a revamp of animation features in 5.0.
I didn't mention them, as I was never that much into 2D animation, but if somebody is, krita is definitely worth checking out.
nice been using beta ;) for a long time
Tastefully place donut tutorial at the very end. Now, how do I delete the default cube on Krita?
Damn, for full experience you'd have to create a template with the default cube, so that you can delete it each time ;)
Is the new version surpass clip studio paint yet ?
Lmao, that last one got me subscribed
Hah, thanks ;)
thank you!! :D
No problem ;)
Hi, anyone knows which version i have to download for a Samsung tablet s7?
I can't tell with the first search what processor your does your Android tablet have.
If you don't want to try those .apk one after the other, you can ask for guidance on krita-artists.org
How can I change the liquify brush size? Thank you for the content!
You can use shift+horizontal drag like in usual brush.
There's also a slider in tool options if I remember well.
@@wojtryb Thank you ♥
One of my issue with Krita, which stop me to use it, is whenever i draw something (as simple as making a line) theres a delay between what i put on the canvas and when my pen is of the canvas like a 2-3 sec... its the only program for me that does that... and my laptop isnt the problem...
@@wojtryb Tnx
I don't know, maybe is because my laptop does not have the best memory in RAM so its always lagging, his this is kind of annoying TT
Basically for win10 all the settings are stored in one file: %LOCALAPPDATA%\kritarc
while all resources like brushes, themes and exported shortcut schemes are in one folder:
%APPDATA%\krita\
By copying those two directories and then replacing them, you should be able to move or recover your configuration.
It's highly unlikely krita deleted those resources - I would suspect some cleaner app or something of that sort.
Since Krita 5 you can change location of Krita resource folder in the settings, so maybe consider changing it to location not so system related.
help my screen is too small for krita that krita windowed instead of maxmized
Ctrl+shift+f for fullscreen
Tab for canvas-only mode
@@wojtryb ty
krita-artists.org/t/testing-needed-non-linear-brush-drag-resize-response/27339?u=wojtryb
Okay but can you animate without keyboard shortcuts?! So it will work on an Android art tablet...
Well, I can't animate even with the keyboard shortcuts ;)
It's best to ask for tips on krita-artists.org - maybe there are people there who animate on Android tablets.
Can I somehow update Krita 4 to Krit 5? I don't want to reinstall all brushes :x
Thanks but how can i get it, should I update my current version or what?
The main way is to download krita from the official website, and install it, exactly like you did with the current version. It will overwrite the existing one, but keeping your settings and brushes.
If you want to be super careful, you can download a portable version which not overwrites your current install.
Nice
I'm sorry if this sounds stupid, but does anybody know how to get the opacity slider on the toolbar at the top? When I installed Krita 5.0, I got two size sliders.
Click on the "down arrow" near the slider to pick other slider with a plus button.
@@wojtryb Thank you!!!
Settings -> Configure Krita -> Display group -> Canvas Acceleration tab
version 5.0.2 has arrived, I wanted to update but I don't want to lose my krita customizations
How do I update without losing the customizations?
Updating krita will not delete your customization.
On upgrade from 4.x.x to 5.0.2 you will only lose custom tags once, as they were changed significantly in the code.
To keep your brushes safe, go to settings > manage resources > open resource folder, and make a copy of this 'krita' folder which will get open. Keep it on a pendrive or cloud drive.
Your settings are stored in kritarc file, but it's location depends on the system you use. You can make a backup if it too.
But update won't delete them.
When I do the first thing you said, it only shows up some predefined krita brush files
Also, I don't know how to open krita files '-'
@@giihuwu5688 You are not supposed to move 'krita' folder to another location, just make a copy of it somewhere else.
If you did move it, copy it from the safe place to where it was
Idk How to do this ;-;
I don't know what you did, but if you have this 'krita' directory with your presets (wherever you moved it), click on it, copy with ctrl+c, in krita go to settings > manage resources > open resource folder, go one directory up, delete this 'krita' directory and press ctrl+v to paste the right one you have in clipboard.
What about krita for Android
It's the same version for Android with all it's pros and cons. No special tablet interface yet.
it is normal that i don't have access to the saturarion filter layer ?
sometimes I used it to have more vibrants colours in my painting .
Are 3d models present in it... Like clip studio
No, it's a Pandora box.
You add some basic 3D model overview, and people start asking for posing rigged models, adjusting the light, coloring the model elements and dynamically painting textures...
We just can't afford to be become another blender.
@@wojtryb well, you can add some things with every update...
But overall that's a huge task that would have to be actively maintained by somebody for months and years.
It's all about getting the right priority of things, and good work/benefit ratio.
Even with this feature basic implementation, you'd still need a 3D software for anything more complex.
I would like to know if there are also adjustment layers like "levels" (ps) ?
great video btw :D !
Yes. Every filter can be used non-destructively as a filter mask under a layer or a group. You can have multiple of those under one layer.
Right click on a layer, and add > filter mask, or trough filter menu: use as mask instead of just applying.
Thanks :)
@@wojtryb thanks a lot for the answer ^^
and thanks for the video :D

Krita has never let me import audio and I thought having the new update would change that but it still doesn’t work! Does anyone know why?
It may be hard to get reasonable technical help in a YT comment. krita-artists.org may be a better place for that.
@@wojtryb thank you!
someone let the people who manage the krita site know that the link to download the plugin 'g'mic' is not working.
G'mic got integrated with krita in this release, so you no longer need to install it separately.
