I tested most of the features and read about them during development but everything happened into separate branches, separate threads and over long time period. Frankly, I had at this point no big picture in mind of all work done on Krita beta 5... But now thanks to your very well made video, I could finally measure the big differences all this threads and merge request, refactors did in comparison to the 4.x series. So, thank you very much Wojtryb! And by the way, great accomplishment for compressing all this content into less than 8 minutes! 👍
Thank you for commenting David! For some reason I managed to remember all those things I was reading about on KA and developer chat. Maybe that's because I tested them all at once recently - when prealpha stopped crashing for me on regular basis. At first I thought there might not be that much to talk about, as the main feature being "resource rewrite" is not that visually attractive, but no - all those smaller changes together form a very strong improvement. I'd say that krita major releases just reached a magnitute of usual releases of blender - which is rather insane considering the pace of blender devs novadays ;)
Whatever this contribution was, big thanks on behalf of the whole community. Krita strongly depends on those tiny things users do for her, so I'm sure yours was important enough to be grateful :)
Yup, it works like a charm. I never could bare the pressure of being recorded, but this feature with automatic start and taking breaks when I'm not painting, really fixes that for me
This looks very good. I have really come to love Krita, so much that I actually prefer it over Clip Studio Paint, which used to be my daily driver for illustration. I am not a brush creator in Krita yet, but these new modes probably will make the engine even more impressive. I am sure Ramon Miranda will come up with some amazing brushes! The interface improvements and the transformation changes are also great to have.
That's great! I'm sure that Ramon will find some great use-cases for those new modes and I hope I'll find some time to play around with them myself too.
Thanks for the showcase. I'm eager to try the timelapse feature and perhaps use the popup palette again now that the small triangle color selector can be changed.
Those timelapses are cool - I already love them. Right now I'm quite used to "show color selector" already, but this ability to change both type and size of the pop-up selector make it way more useful.
Very nice video going over a lot of the painting and resource changes. There are quite a few enhancements to animation, so hopefully, we can get a video or two going over all the improvements with that. There is a lot of great things coming to Krita 5!
Yes, I'm aware though I didnt this much attention to them, and unfortunately I had some OpenGL issues when trying to use them, so I guess I'll have to check them out a bit later.

krita already cover 80% of my use case, but if krita have on click multi layer selection, and multi layer transform without having to use grouping first, i would be satisfied, and put a blind eye over the other missing feature. i don't know why this is still not a priority yet, this single feature could bring a lot of newcomer into krita
I don't really know what you mean by multi layer selection - you can select multiple layers with ctrl, shift, using shift+r to do that on canvas, instead of layer docker. There even is a plugin on KA for selecting multiple layers with dragging over the layer docker. In terms of layer transform - I think one GSOC student was working on some operations for multiple selected layers for krita 5.1, but I'm not sure they managed to complete this specific task with smaller than usual budget by Google. I don't know why those specific two features should be a priority. With 4 mln Krita users, there are 433 officially requested wishes, 185 confirmed to be done "when it's time". But apart from that there is also 580 known bugs that needs fixing. Each day brings 2 or 3 new bugs that need verifying and then fixing. Most of work is done by 10 people currently working in krita, which can get smaller with lower than usual income from stores. The priority for those paid devs is mostly polishing krita 5 and fixing bugs, as most people who dump krita, do it because of crashes, and performance issues, not lack of one specific thing. I've seen lots of people thinking that krita is missing only one specific feature, but for some reason, each of them wants something else :)

You know, everyone has their own idea on what's the only thing missing in krita that would make them fully switch to krita. I've heard about "normal" eraser by default, clipping masks as alpha inheritance is "unintuitive", smart shapes, fully realtime gradient maps, 3D model poser and many more small and huge new features. You can't have them all - luckily we have a good maintainer with a vision who can decide on what would bring the most benefit to the biggest amount of users with reasonable amount of work :)
