    Bull's eye! Working my way through Mastering Diabetes now. Cyrus' description of my following a ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting the past two years exactly described what I experienced. Shall be sharing this with my 'newly enlightened' family doctor as she too has been waking up to the ineffectiveness of our medical science 'party line protocols' in her failure to adequately treat her own family. Thank you for this excellent interview!

    Wow. I've been suffering from gut dysbiosis and watching every docuseries, webinar and podcast on gut health and diet for years. This is the first time I have heard this message. And it was so well presented by Cyrus - very succinct and easy to follow. Congrats on an excellent job and thank you. I will be sending this link to others.

    Having today watched the first episode of the Gut Solution which was so good then later in the day this talk with Cyrus Khambatta has just been fantastic. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 10 years ago having had gestational diabetes ten years before that and I have from further back felt that I had a 'sensitive' digestion system. The information in these talks are confirming the conclusions I'm coming to which I am so thankful for. I will be listening to, reading more of and sharing this fantastic knowledge that you are sharing. Thank you.

    Great info. Sounds like it's about being a 'Vegetarian'... And I don't struggle with that- However, I'm really curious about how i combine this info with my SIBO eating regime which leans strongly towards animal proteins and low carbohydrates.... I also have high cholesterols and had Gestational Diabetes . (current blood glucose test are ok ) We are strong on whole food eating....and until the SIBO eating regime , we were low meat esters ... Now I'm feeling more confused.

      Hi, Donna! This is a great question. The species of bacteria within the microbiome are determined by the foods that we eat. Plant-based foods nourish beneficial microorganisms, while meat, eggs and dairy cause pathogenic species to proliferate. It's important to emphasize a fiber-rich diet, even while treating SIBO. Opt for low-FODMAP plant-based foods, like strawberries, oranges, kiwi, passionfruit, pineapple, blueberries, tomato, cucumber, spinach, lettuce, carrots, Brazil nuts, chia seeds, macadamia, walnuts, firm tofu, lentils, kidney beans, rice, oats and quinoa, for a period of time.

    So if I do a 7 to 14 days fast.. I should be able to break it with a watermelon and my sugars should not go up? I'm type 1 diabetic..

      Thanks for joining us, Jorge! It would be best to consult with a healthcare practitioner for personalized advice regarding your diet and blood sugar.

    • @jorgecarrejo
      @jorgecarrejo 4 года назад

      @@GoodnessLover you realize that many Healthcare professionals don't advice extended fasting right? You're saying that you can eat hundreds of carbs and use very little insulin.. I'm trying to be able to do that... So hopefully you can answer my question...

    • @GoodnessLover
      @GoodnessLover  4 года назад

      @@jorgecarrejo we realize that not all practitioners oversee fasting. However, if you are a beginning faster, you should work with a qualified provider before fasting for longer than 12 hours, especially if you have unstable blood sugar. There are many experts who can provide such support and many offer long-distance care via telemedicine. You can learn more about working with Cyrus here ~ www.masteringdiabetes.org/plans/.

      @@GoodnessLover I don't have unstable blood sugars I eat carnivore and my sugars are great... . I just completed a 7 day fast.. My 3rd long fast.. (I did a 7 day.. 16 day and now 7 and a few 2 and 3 day when I first started)
      But my point was if eating plant based diets gets you to be able to eat lots of carbs via fruits.. In a few days.. I figured fasting would have a similar effect.. Since there's no fats to stop that process.. That's why I asked.. But I broke my fast 224 grams of watermelon and my sugars started going straight up.. Even after a bolus.. Albeit.. Smaller than usual.. So I'm sure I'm more insulin sensitive..

    Good info but keto is not a high protein diet. Keto can be done right & wrong ('dirty keto').
    Keto done right is not high protein, is highly plant based, & not high saturated fats. Once stalled, cycling in more carbs is recommended to move away to be more flexible. I will look for more info on website, etc.

    • @GoodnessLover
      @GoodnessLover  4 года назад +1

      Hi Jacquie! Yes, I agree, there's a spectrum within Keto for sure... Ie. there's people just eating bacon and cheese, and other's following a 'ketotarian' diet, and of course, those different groups are going to see different results. I'm friends with Dr. Will Cole (author of Ketotarian), and his seems to be an approach I can get behind. But an obvious caveat with standard Keto is low fibre, due to being low carb. Perhaps cycling carbs is enough to feed gut bugs and train the body to accept carbs? I'm not sure. I'd love to see studies as they become available.

      I think Cyrus has some valid points but I think, as Jacquie has pointed out keto or low carb, can work for some people. It obviously didn't work for Cyrus. Saturated fat does not increase the risk of death based on meta analysis and a ketogenic diet does not necessarily cause a more "dysbiotic" gut flora and in fact may create a more beneficial one.
      I guess there is no one size that fits all and if severely restricting fats is something you can sustain long term and follow good for you but if the converse is true I think that's fine too.
      I do appreciate all you guys do just wanted to give another opposing perspective. But I think we can all agree that our food and health "systems" are very much broken.
