Hi, my wife and I used to have language students stay with us in the 80's, the French students could be quite badly behaved, whereas those from Austria were a pleasure to entertain, always polite and respectful. My brother owns the airfield and gliding school, if for some reason a client doesn’t turn up and it’s a nice day he’ll pick the phone up to invite me for a flight, he offers to teach me to fly, but I just enjoy the view. This is a recent flight over the town - ruclips.net/video/pXm2mKft7lM/видео.html

This is something rather special Tim. I bet you had a great time on this trip. That looks a super bit of kit , i liked that flip-up propeller...folds neatly away when not in use. Lovely footage on a glorious Day...well done..Steve.~

***** Hi Steve, I have traveled with brother to New Zealand on a couple of occasions where he goes gliding and I chase trains, catching up in the evenings for a pub lunch. Sometime I take a helicopter ride over the area he has been gliding to see the glaciers and amazing scenery he's been flying over and we have ridden some of the Tranzscenic trains together. The glider we were in on this occasion belongs to my brother and occasionally we take a flight over the area in which we live, on this occasion I set up some cameras, hence the video. Although we live in the same town, the only time we really get to talk to each other is when gliding or on holiday together.

Nick Kaveney Hi Nick, your comment is appreciated, I love to visit New Zealand whenever I can, the scenery is fantastic and my son has made NZ his home. Looking forward to my next visit (2016). Tim.

Another wonderful video Tim, as always! No one has said it, so I must: you have really come up in the world mate!! What a beautiful day and such a smooth ride. I did not see a tow plane on the launch, so I thought it might be a self powered glider. I have flown quite a bit over the UK with Flight Sim and ORBX hi res scenery. It is good, but not as good as this. Everything is so green. Thanks for sharing with us earthbound mortals!

Scott Sinclair Hi Scott, I really appreciate your comment. The glider was self powered, so we were able to take off without a tug plane. The runway we took off from used to belong to a local fridge manufacturing company, but unfortunately it closed, leaving only a disused runway which my brother clears and tidies up with the owners permission occasionally. It is interesting to see the massive expansion taking place with new homes being built at a number of locations, the scale of this building program is not so apparent from ground level. It is also nice to see Arundel from the air, especially the castle and cricket ground.

Cheers, I'm pleased you enjoyed the flight, I posted this one back in 2013, towards the end, the glider lands at Storrington - ruclips.net/video/0J0GFJlVkZg/видео.html
The glider belongs to my brother, it is highly likely I will post more flight videos in the near future, now he is permanently based at Bognor Airfield.

Got a question. Im about to start gliding lessons and im wondering what the restrictions are to where i can or cannot fly. E.g can i fly over public parks or over moterways or general public areas?

Hi, I am sure will enjoy gliding. The answer to your question is once you are above a certain height you can fly over over the places you mention as long as you abide by Civil Aviation Authority Rules. This link may help you - members.gliding.co.uk/laws-rules/

Hi Mark, It's good to see the area we live in from the air, I've seen a few changes over the years, the loss of LEC refrigeration was one that affected many, including myself. It was fun to take off from the old airfield again.

Mike Evans Evans Hi Mike, thanks for commenting. To take a flight contact the "Southdown Gliding Club" at www.southdowngliding.co.uk/trial-lesson.html to arrange for one of the experienced instructors to take you on a flight along the South Downs.

Wonderful video. My father was a Norwegian who flew in the RAF during W.W.2 and took off from the base at Bognor Regis on D-Day to support the ground troops. It is lovely to see the area where they lived and trained for the invasion. Thank you

More a potter over Bognor Regis than "over West Sussex & the South Downs" - interesting though.
