I agree on all fronts... The only times I've had a case head separation is when I was pushing my brass to hard after to many firings. I watched a video on F-Class John's channel when he was showing that little line that appears on your brass once it's been fired and sized to many times. I also started to keep my brass in batches now so I know they've all been fired in the same gun and it allows me to keep track of how many times they've been fired. Ever since I started to watch for the signs and keeping everything in batches I've never had another case head separation. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

Whilst playing with some hot loads I noticed several pieces of brass had a light ring on them just above the case head. I decided it was best to 'retire' those cases rather than chance a stuck headless case. Besides, an extra 50fps wasn't worth the potential headache.

You and Sam provide by far the most intelligent data for us shooters and the equipment used/recommended does not dictate your choices. In other words, you are not a salesman for the various companies who make rifle equipment. My son and I both enjoy watching you and Sam, especially Sam calling your shots, shooting long range steel targets. Might add scenes of giant farm areas where you shoot provide all of us a bit different perspective of Australia. Wish I had visited Australia when I had the opportunity during Vietnam R&R.

I had a case separation in my AR-15, a chamber brush pulled it right out. getting the case off the brush wasn't as easy.

A brass cleaning bush, pushed into the case neck, also works great. I used the tip of a cleaning rod that I shortened and bent to fit into my range bag, when a case separated I would screw the brush into the end of the bent cleaning rod and work it into the chamber to catch the case and pull it right out with no trouble. That is no longer an issue because I learned how to properly set up my sizing dies.

I have had more problems with primer pockets getting too big but I haven't separated a case yet (knock on wood) mostly with new brass some only after 1 reload , seems some of this brass is really soft. Thanks for another great subject and hope to see you out on the range soon.

Mark have you ever tried using a tight cleaning brush on a rod up into the case? That trick works like a charm. When you pull back the brush sticks in the case.
This one i will put in my remember/recovery list. 😊👍
@@janne65olsson Works like a charm you just need a brush that will fit into the case when you reverse the direction the brush locks in tight enough to pull the case out easily.

Not just bottle-necked cases. I had a couple of 9mm cases separate in an AR-9, and they were buggers to get out. Picks, oversize brushes, Hoppe's... nothing worked. I had to use cerrosafe.

@@markandsamafterwork i went to pacific tool and bought their case extractor because i just loaded 300 rounds with those cases.
I had that happen to me and my daughter out hunting. I had no clue what to do. My daughter said ""dad stick a bic pen in there"" luckily I had one. I pulled the bolt and put the pen in and it worked

Had good luck with epoxying another case into the stuck case if a brass chamber brush doesn't retrieved the stuck one.

It’s also really bad when they get stuck in the sizing die. Like you said, best to cycle in a new lot after 4-5 firings or earlier if you notice that telltale ring in the weak part of the brass.

I watched a friend have a case head separate and not pay attention in his AR and next round didn't fully feed so he used the forward assist and it went in enough that it fired and what would have been really bad well could have he got lucky so just always if something don't go right don't force it make sure to check chamber if it's not going into lockup

The trick is, don't full length resize. Either neck size or partially resize and reduce headspace. Bump back the shoulder only one or two thousands of an inch. Me personally, I never full length size .only neck size and never had a problem. Even after multiple reloads.

Hornady factory brass is thin and soft I reloaded it and stopped using it quick and went to Peterson which is far superior brass

As you stated best to avoid the situation. To avoid round rupture I no longer use Wolf steel cased rounds as I have had two cracks part way around the rim and proved difficult to remove. Fantastic Information provided as usual.
