      If you want air flow on the backwards compatible model, but can't find something to prop it up on, what about having the console stand veridically? Does that also work?

      My launch US 60gb YLOD in 2014 and I always played it vertically. It was a hot summer night, room was prob about 30 Degrees. Make sure there is enough space around it (at least 2 ft) and don't play in temps approaching 30 deg, if you can. I have been told that I did well to get 8 years out of it... I may get it re-balled one day, depends on how backward compatible the PS5 will be

    I have the CECH-AO1 60 gb model that you are showing on the left. I won it on Ebay in Feb. of 2016 from an adult collector CIB with 7 great games that came with it. It already had 5 extra fans on the right side that matched the console with the chrome and black. And then I added 4 more fans to the front for extra cooling. So total with the stock fan, it is running on 10 fans. Also I upgraded it to a 1tb hard drive, as I filled the 60gb of space quite quickly. lol But If remember correctly, there are 3 backwards compatible models, but only 2 of those the (20gb CECH-BO1 & 60gb CECH-AO1) have the PS2 chips inside of them. The 80gb CECH-EO1 model actually just emulates from the PS2 discs.

    Mine's a CECHE01 80GB model. Bought it brand new for $532.49 ($499.99 + 6.5% sales tax) in December 2007 and a friend who used to play it non-stop FUBAR'ed it November 2013. It got the YLOD on it... tried thermal pasting it, and it worked for about 2-3 weeks before it suffered another YLOD incident. I haven't had the heart to toss it, in the hopes that at some point in the future I can have a professional re-ball the CPU & GPU and hopefully make it capable of playing games again.
    I wound up shelling out $200 to get a white super slim PS3, and it's done well, but I still miss the backward compatibility.

    Really great video and very informative if I may add though Another key difference between the backwards compatible models is the CECH-A01 and The CECH-E01 is that the A01 models used playstation 2 hardware to play ps2 games and the E01 models used emulation to play them in short the difference might not be so clear but the problem with emulation is the compatibility list of games is limited unlike the full hardware version has no limits I have the A01 myself and after a 1tb ssd upgrade and replacement of the thermal paste it's a fast and solid console and definitely worth purchasing if you have the knowledge on how to do this and it is a very easy console to install custom firmware on if you choose to do so

The CECHG01 that I have has these vents just like the backwards compatible models. I think once you start going to the newer non-backwards compatible models (CECHH01 through CECHP and so on) I think thats when you see those vents disappear. This non-backwards compatible model is probably one of those later ones, probably 2008 and up.

    Currently the 20GB CECHBxx is the model that collectors go after since they're rare being advertised as a lesser poor mans PS3 playing second fiddle to the showoff low rider 60GB model and the 20GB got discontinued the fastest as well.
    It have one less moving part than 60GB that have the plastic flap that open up for card reader wearing down over time and often fall off or refuse to stay put.
    It didn't have stupid chrome trim to ruin its elegant design.
    WiFi is good for convenience but if you care about stable connection and speed then you'd just stick to wired connection anyway so not having WiFi is not really bad anymore on 20 GB model.
    HDD size is completely moot by this point since you can just swap in a 500 GB drive for really cheap nowadays.
    So if you can find a Luigi 20GB Model for reasonable price then go for it.
    I got lucky and got a barely used boxed ones for less than $60.

The EU ones are only partly compatible, using some emulation software (it will play about 75% of the games) and the USA/Japan ones have all the ps2 chips and are 100% compatible. Hope this helps :) so better have an American or Japanese model if you can find one.

    Does your original 60gb PlayStation 3 get loud while playing games?

    • @myairspace121
      @myairspace121  5 лет назад +7

      It does not. I have two of them and when I purchased them used I immediately dissasembled them and cleaned them out. If the console is running loudly then there may be a buildup of dust on the inside. I'd definitely recommend opening up your console, cleaning out the dust and, if possible, applying new thermal paste on the processors.

    • @jmreviews3734
      @jmreviews3734 5 лет назад +2

      Ahh okay. Thanks for the advice. Yeah because I got one for $90 and the condition is just excellent. There's not a lot of dust on the outside of the console which is good. The warranty sticker is still intact. Also, how do you prevent the YLOD?

    • @myairspace121
      @myairspace121  5 лет назад +2

      @@jmreviews3734 You're very welcome. YLOD definitely plagues the 60gb PS3 models. In my experience, I had a 60gb and it was immaculate on the outside, but I never opened it up to check inside. It worked well for about 6 months and then it went YLOD.
      First of all, place your 60gb on it's side since the 60gb is special in that it exhausts hot air from the right side and backside. (This will help with the airflow, allowing the hot air to naturally go upward and our of the case)
      My advice is to definitely open up your console and clean it out. Definitely replace the thermal paste and even the thermal pads along all the MOSFETs and PS2 chips. (Pretty much all of the thermal pads you see)
      The issue with these 60gb models is that they get too hot and stay too hot for too long, and that's thanks to some poor design. The stock fan settings that Sony provides with your PS3s OS is not aggressive enough. It let's the CPU and GPU idle at about 70c sometimes which is way too high.
      With that said, my next big piece of advice is to either purchase and install an "adjustable speed accelerator controller" for the fan, OR to install some custom firmware on the PS3 to then install "fan control utility" to keep your temps low while idle and gaming.
      If you don't want to tinker your console at all, that's fine. I still recommend thermal paste and pads because those are going to be over 10 years old since you still have the warranty sticker.
      Sorry for the long response, I didn't even get to talk about everything, but I covered the main points for you. I'll probably do a video on this topic soon actually since it's very interesting and I've learned a lot after taking multiple apart and putting them back together.

    After watching some videos of how to keep the CECHA/CECHB PlayStation 3 from overheating, apparently, the bottom part (where the fan usually spins) has to be cut open to get more air flow into it. Not only that, but the console also has to be stood up. That seems to be the most efficient way to keep the fat PlayStation 3 alive for a long time without having to put up with thermal pasting. The console can be modified, but it's too complicated for me, as there are so many parts, so many screws, et cetera. So I'll just cut the bottom part of the console whenever I actually get one in the future.
    Speaking of getting a CECHA/CECHB PlayStation 3, if you want the original startup sound and the PlayStation 3 logo jingle when starting a game, well...it's going to be very hard (and a lot of times impossible) to find one that hasn't been updated past firmware 2.80. And when you do find one brand new, it's around $1,500 to $2,000. So chances are, you WILL have to jailbreak it to get those original features back because many of them are updated past firmware 2.80. I'm not a fan of the later startup sound and the later PlayStation 3 logo, so I'll jailbreak it if I have no other choice.
    Since I'm not a fan of the later PlayStation 3 logo and new games require updates past firmware 2.80 (I watched a video of someone unboxing a brand new CECHA01 PlayStation 3), this means I'm limited to playing the early PlayStation 3 games from November 2006 to September 2009. I currently have 10 games in mind that interests me, which is pretty disappointing compared to the amount of PlayStation 2 games (currently 20) I have in mind that interests me. At least the PlayStation 3 is worth getting, now that I have 10 games that interests me. To me, if you have less than 10 games that interests you, then that system is not worth getting.

    • @myairspace121
      @myairspace121  4 года назад +1

      @@Icarus975 If you're going to soft mod your system, then there is no need to get a BC PS3 since some custom firmwares have ps2 emulators built in. I suppose it depends on what kind of mods you'd like to do.
      For normal purposes it's really a toss up. The slim and super slim are both great and reliable. The slim is slightly more premium in it's build quality and slot loading Blu-ray drive, but the super slim uses less energy and is quieter. The super slim also typically has much higher storage options available from the factory since it's a lot newer. If I were you, I would wait a few more weeks until Sony officially unveils the PS5 since there are rumors that the PS5 will be backwards compatible with all previous PS consoles. Take that with a grain of salt, but I would definitely wait until after the unveil to make a decision.
      Lastly, for purely collector purposes, I'd highly recommend a BC PS3 for their novelty and design (I think they look amazing haha). Do keep in mind their fragile nature though.

I was thinking about looking into more Japanese stuff that never released in America when it come to PS1 and PS2 games but no way to get around Region lock. I suppose I could hack one I already have to remove region lock if I knew how but I rather keep it on official firmware. As far as the PS3 game issue you're having, I've never heard of such a thing. Does any error message pop up when you try and launch the game?
      You're welcome, and thank you for the comment!

      @@kellymcallister2376 For sure, you're welcome. That's a very interesting error to be experiencing. I don't think I've ever heard of an issue like that, but it sounds somewhat reminiscent of how a PS3 overheats and shuts off. It's possible there could be some issue with either the cooling or power delivery of your PS3, but I wouldn't know for sure.
      Sorry I can't be of more help to you. I'd try researching on the internet to see if anyone has experienced the same issue as you. Hopefully a solution can be found!

      CECHC (PAL) European and Australian release does support, via internal hardware, BC to PS2 titles. However the same regional restrictions apply as it did with PS 2 consoles. This same regional restriction will apply to PS1 games sadly. So if you are a rare Japanese anime title buyer a CECHA or B would be needed as an additional system to enjoy both your PAL and NTSC collections. Enjoy!
