    Isayama kinda wrote himself into a corner by making a situation where the only two options are 1. let yourself and your people be genocided due to racism 2. genocide the rest of the world before they can genocide you. It was bound to create a big divide in the fandom. I know ending defenders like that invaderzzz say there were other options than those two, but it didn't seem like it when the entire world agreed to destroy Paradis. It's basically the trolley problem but in a much bigger scale.

    • @BROWNSMAGIC
      @BROWNSMAGIC  Месяц назад +5

      Yeah. So honestly you can make a case that Aot in itself is inherently fascist or pro-war or whatever. But the fans rocking with Eren, due to the fact that all other options were written out of the story, there’s no shot that we’re all doomsday fantasy alt right weirdos

      @@BROWNSMAGIC I think its easier for people to convict a piece of media as a whole for some sort of moral crime rather than take the lesson and feeling its trying to portray for what it obviously is. People go through a lot of mental gymnastics to convict AOT as "pro-genocide" or "fascist" because they don't want to consider that human nature isn't black and white, and they likely found themselves agreeing with the actions of characters that they otherwise would find despicable if they were victims of those actions, and in order to maintain the moral convictions they came into the show with, they try to find reasons for why its wrong. There's no world where genocide is the "right" move, and there's no world where having someone's baby sister be eaten alive by a pack of dogs for what her ancestors did is the right move either. So where does that leave you as a viewer?
      Its just a defense mechanism, and I don't necessarily think the divide is a bad thing. I think its funny how people are acting the exact same way the characters are acting over the same situation, and it illustrates the point of the show pretty well. You can choose a side, but at the end of the day you'll choose those closest to you. Which is what everyone did in the story, but with Eren its more blatant because of their situation, and people mistake that for being pro-genocide.
      I also want to add that there is this illusion that what happens in AOT (the cycle of violence) is somehow avoidable, and naturally people use tools to try to figure out what went wrong in the show, and why the writing ended up where it did. Their logic is, if you make a show where genocide is the optimal decision for the main character given their situation, then you are pro-genocide. People do this with almost every story, but AOT doesn't outright give you an answer to the problem it presents (because objectively there is none). All it does is portray the many routes people take in response to said problem, so people create one for themselves and then try to justify it based on what the author wrote.

    If you wanna watch a shonen that has an actually great, if not a perfect ending.... Then give Blue Dragon a try. The shows not a masterpiece, but at the same time its the best anime adaptation of a video game ever made. And keep in mind its been 15 years since it ended and most shonen struggle to make q halfway decent ending.
    Oh and Akira Toriyama was heavily involved in Blue Dragon so there's also that if people want a good reason to watch (watch the JP dub tho)

      AoT: Genocide bad! If it's a small island protecting itself from a world full of fascists who want to destroy them. But when it's the world scapegoating one small island, kill 'em all!
      DBZ: Gohan, you're a pacifist and you value life. Which is why you must fight and kill Cell, who will kill everyone and everything you hold dear if you don't. Evil triumphs when supposed good people do nothing, giving themselves a pat on the back for not being violent.

    I'll admit, I came to aot late and never read the manga and I personally enjoyed the ending, retcons and all, and do not agree with eren's decisions. but I think fd's analysis is generally unfair to "jagerists" and aot fans in general. and while I understand fictional works can be used as tools of oppression and theres definitely a fashy audience, I think there's a difference between standing by a character for narrative reasons and standing by a character because you'd literally agree with all their decisions in real life. I think there is a problem with your "you-only-have-a-bmb-and-ppl-are-coming-to-kll-u" analogy bc I think that sort of thinking is what oppressive powers irl tend to weaponize, but I think we both understand both your analogy and the story are purposely written as mostly unrealistic scenarios and meant to be a difficult trolley problem for people to debate for years to come. and the thing with unrealistic hypotheticals like that is even in the most beginner philosophy class, it is understood that when given an unrealistic hypothetical, the person shouldn't be held 100% accoutable for their answer as if that would be their real-life position. this sort of moralizing and de-moralizing of fictional works and what directions you want them to take and painting it in one broad stroke really irks me and I wish fd's analysis would be smarter than this.

    • @BROWNSMAGIC
      @BROWNSMAGIC  Месяц назад +4

      I agree with you for the most part as in the real world there definitely would have been a talkable solution to actual genocide but isayama purposely writes away any other solution, like you said to purposely create the conditions for a kill or be killed situation to make debates like these happen.
      It’s very obvious that “jaegerists” which are for the most part normal people who side with Eren bc we followed him for seasons watching him endure terrorist attacks and experience a “slow” genocide. When the final leg of genocide comes knocking at his door he makes the hardest decision he’s ever made to preserve his own innocent people.
      So even within the context of the story I think it’s unfair to label most “jaegerists” as these alt right incel weirdos. (That’s not to say that they don’t exist, bc they do.)
      It would’ve made for a much better story with much more to say if there were actual alternatives written (like in game of thrones when Daenerys goes mad) and to see characters collide with a stubborn Eren who decides the most brutal path regardless of having more practical options. Simply put, if Eren was written options and we were still on his side with the rumbling then MAYBE a case could be made that the majority of people that were on his side are these fascist alt righters.
      But as you said, fiction is fiction is fiction. What we cheer for in a show or video game cannot be applied to our real life morals. (In MOST cases)

    5:23 I disagree here. Eren losing would've been absolutely TERRIBLE. Eren was given way too much conviction and steeling of his resolve just to lose to the Alliance. That would have been garbage writing. There's no possible way for 5 titan shifters who CANNOT beat the Founder. There's no way for THREE normal people, a cripple, and a child to beat the Founder. It would've been another shit happy ending ass ending.
    Isayama's folding ass knew it that's why he retconned Eren to let them win.
    If Eren is going to lose (Bad Writing) then Mueller and the Marleyan soldiers should've gunned them all down, saying: "You should've let Jaeger kill us when you had the chance." The Alliance should've got their immediate consequence for betraying the Island.

    • @BROWNSMAGIC
      @BROWNSMAGIC  Месяц назад +2

      That’s what I’m saying like if isayama really wanted a satisfying twist, make Armin, the character who’s written to be sooooo smart figure out some loophole or some way to cheat to win. Anything! Like if it was gonna be an ending where the alliance won then it would’ve been some sort of brain battle. But no for some reason that was too much to ask for. So he writes eren just giving up
