- We get behind the wheel of the compact Bajaj Qute to see what all the fuss is about, whether it really does cost R5 000 and more importantly, what it's like to drive.
First unveiled at the NAMPO agricultural show in 2017, the Bajaj Qute has set social media alight more recently with stories, memes, jokes and videos about this compact little 'car'. The story goes that you can buy it for only R5 000, that it will only cost you R150 per month and that you can insure it for only R1.20.
Naturally, much of this was a lie but that didn't stop the public from becoming positively enthralled by the prospect of a cheap, efficient runabout.
In order to get the truth about this little machine, we grabbed one from TransRevSA to get to the bottom of this story. Watch our video below to see what sort of equipment it offers, what powers the micro-machine and more importantly, what the real cost is.

I just got one. I'm in Mexico. It is the firs one in town and it is so cute, that everybody smiles st it.
The most important, is that is a very reliable vehicle. I would say, the most secure motorcycle, confortable with four people aboard and wonderfull to drive under the rain. I can't see any other motorcycle competen with this. 😂😉😁😁😁
Ppl call it unsafe but with that much speed what wrong would happen? 😂😂 It is far safer than a motorcycle.

For a qudracycle, it is a very nice product, i can see food delivery businesses picking it up right away.

It is good for narrow and dense streets where traffic moves at a snail pace. It is an alternative to a rickshaw that's it.
You are the REAL reviewer! Instead of riding the meme trend and making fun of the vehicle, I actually gained knowledge about it. (with every decibel :P) All in all seems a good vehicle for my business or anyone for their first family car. What do you think Chad?
I would not recommend this as a family car. The safety levels are not suitable and the limited top speed will also limit the distances you will be able to travel with it. For a business, sure, provided you do not intend on using it on the highway. One of the greatest causes of highway accidents is speed variation and the Qute is too slow to utilise a highway safely. @@Autotradersa In third world country like Bangladesh where highway average speed is around 50 km and government tax is incredibly high for premium cars...qute will be absolutely a best option...

I like the vehicle but some thing is missing in the design... Ofcourse It's compact lightweight easy to use... but I think Bajaj should re-design it so that the vehicle will look modern if they did it I think this Vehicle will be huge success not only in India market it will conquer the world market....... definitely

Very good review. Tell me, what is the legal difference between a car and quadcycle (if that is what it is) and what difference does it make? I assume, for one thing, that it is not permitted to drive on a freeway. And as an aside, what are the rules wrt quadbikes and other alternate modes of 4-wheeled transport?
The current laws do not make a clear distinction as to what quantifies the Bajaj as a quadricycle. Three-wheelers (Tuk-Tuks) use motorcycle controls and that separates them from regular cars. The Qute has car-like controls for the most part and we believe the classification comes from the SABS homologation process, rather than eNatis. The only stipulation is the engine displacement for highway use, which has to be greater than 125cc in order to be legal for highway use. [Chad]
We reside in the Nelspruit region and find it impossible to have constructive communication with the importer / dealer. Wesbank have already pre-approved my finance for Bajaj. The numbers and e-mail address on their website does not work / or no response.
75000 rand is around 4 lakhs Indian Rupees....cars are really expensive in RSA🤔

@@rolsonvas7122 Alto is technically a car and is much more refined, comfortable, spacious not to say powerful than qute. Also I believe base version of alto starts at 3 lakhs.

if you could fit 600 cc motor on normal tuk tuk I don't see any reason why you could not put ktm 890 motor on this quadricycle plus a guy in the youtube channel named colinfurze did put 600 cc motor on his ordinary tuk tuk along with some ak47 automatic shooting gun just to live his far cry dream in real life

It comes with 250 cc engine of bajaj motorcycle i think. Bajaj can make engine with more displacement. Because they have collaboration with Husqvarna, KTM and Kawasaki. In India above motorcycle are produced by Bajaj.

Before TATA nano, Bajaj was planning to launch, but due to heavy competition of nano Bajaj didn't produce this it seems. Now after the termination of nano production Bajaj launched in India, but couldn't capture the market.

Unfortunately, it is, in most cases. South African laws only regulate the minimum capacity for the engine, that of 125cc. This means that the 218cc Bajaj Qute is theoretically allowed on highways where a minimum speed limit isn't enforced (some highways will stipulate the minimum speed). However, taking the Qute on a highway will be a hazard to all motorists and extremely unsafe. It was never intended for highway use. [Chad]

If you're a business minded.
Better to buy slow cars with low maintenance and good fuel consumption. Compare that to a regular car you'll spend more when it comes to the maintenance and gas in the long run, which is a lot when you cumpute it.
Plus quad cars are less complicated and you can be your own mechanic, unlike real cars you really some professionals to work on it adding some cost.
But if you're just like the rest of everybody who just want to spend spend . Go on buy what you want.
