whoever picked him for the soundtrack surely got a promotion...
Nick Smith soo what if the boss choosen him ? He god promoted to... God or something ? Wait actually not god... But to demon
@@bolterz3943 If he was promoted to demon, then they better find someone to fill his spot cuz we all know damn well DoomGuy is gonna be there with his Big Fucking Gun and put a Big Fucking Hole in his chest because he a demon.
Whoever was above Mick was an angel in my eyes. When Mick submitted something he didn't like he basically told Mick "This isn't exactly what we're looking for but keep going, you're getting there and I believe in you"
And then we got this soundtrack, good work conditions breeds REAL good shit.
Thats not what happened Mick just walked into the studio and started playing music no questions asked
Now this Is a real metal comeback
"When you dealing with such strong legacy, its important that you treat that with the utmost respect"
A lot of companies should learn from this quote.
*looks at duke nukem forever*
Rip Terminator franchise
*cough* Disney *cough*
Cough Halo 5 cough
*Including but not limited to Gibson Guitars, Universal Studios, and Disney.
I remember that they originally told Mick "no metal"
And look where we are, a sound track that won rewards.
To be fair, it was only because of that initial limitation that we got such a unique sound out of the game.
From the jump doom was is and if were lucky always be metal, I agree they definitely got the right guy for the job. But am I the only one that wants some “guest” riffs/songs/ try this, what metal band immediately comes to your mind when you think of doom. For me it was Slayer spliced with Meshuggah. The riff sounds more meshuggah-ish but the mode/environment and feel. -feels like slayer,I’d love to see that happen.
@@Nothingfacer
I want someone like Black Sabath or even Lanora Shore.
You mean awards
Doom 2016 without any metal would be like....what the fuck 😂😂😂
Bethesda: “For the soundtrack, heavy metal is not allowed.”
Mick Gordon: “Do you want music awards or not?”
Bethesda: “…y-yes we do.”
Mick Gordon: “Then watch what I do.”
Bethesda: "no guitars"
Mick Gordon: *pulls out a chainsaw*
Bethesda: "nevermind"
LOL XD literally i miss this kind of sound tracks in other games
Don't let a businessman put restrictions on a man's (or group's) talent. That's how you end up with fails that cost millions.
they said heavy matal wasnt allowed not death metal
@@osurukgurmesi1752 This isn't death metal, this is industrial metal from what I can tell.

They definitely got the right guy to handle the music of this game :)
Hey Mick, just wondering, why do some producers like yourself, arrange and mix in a separate DAW from what they design with?? Is Pro Tools easier to arrange in or something like that??
Mainly just for resources. You can throw a lot more plugins at a single sound during the design phase, then utilise more plugins during the mix phase.
Mick Gordon Makes sense!
Cool! Thanks! Keep up the good work!
This guy is the Marty O Donnell of Metal
Just the way he describes Doom, he totally gets it and it shows in the music.

1. At dooms gate
2. BFG division
3. Rip and tear

1. Harbinger

my only complaint with DOOM is that I couldn't turn the music up to 200
Too real🤣🤘🏼
Actually true, I wanted to do that
So true
Man I played on full volume all the time.
Zsolt Váradi no 200 because in game your music can be set to only 100%, I want it doubled to 200%
dude you made it, the entire metal community thank you.
+zkkzkk32312 Yeah, glad to see Mick working on a huge well known title. Killer Instinct and Wolfenstein are great, but nowhere near the popularity of DOOM. He's bringing the modern industrial sound to the mainstream.
Wolfenstein is kinda legendary tho being the worlds first fps game and all
Skyman Yes, you're right. But it isn't as popular as DOOM. Many more people know DOOM than Wolfenstein. Which was my point.

+Keevanski Go for it, there's a piece in the game that has a choir in it. Just hearing them come in and everything going batshit insane was worth way more than what I brought the game for day one. Each track flows insanely well with the fights and even warps a bit when you go in for a glory kill.
+RadioZonde Oh, that's great! I've heard some bad things about this game, but I think I need to give it a chance (at least for the epic music scenes :D). Thank you!
+Keevanski You heard wrong. This game is revolutionary. 10/10. Absolutely fucking insane awesomeness.
+Keevanski Do it man. It's a great fuckin' game. Far better than what I expected. Total blast.

"Bfg Division" feels like if someone is crushing your jaw furiously with a sledgehammer while getting hit by a train at the same time. Mick, thank you for this kick ass music. We want this soundtrack. ;)
Similarly, "Skullhacker" feels exactly like that, like someone has a jackhammer to your skull and just won't switch it off until there's nothing left.
Matthew Shezmen THAT SONG! idk I hear demons screaming in pain in the back while the guitar and drums do their thing
@Matthew Shezmen *Duumb Eternal* must be awesome, imho. So, would you? Of course you would; no question should be asked.
The best part about Doom is that it is a scary game. You’re always encountering demons from hell and the noises they make is so gruesome and terrifying, but once you hear Mick Gordon’s music, all of that fear that you feel is instantly relieved. Now, you’re angry. You WANT to kill the demons. You want to kill them ALL. You’ll be playing Doom and all of a sudden, you hear boss music which is a clear sign that you’re about to get ambushed by 100 enemies, but the one thought in your mind is, “Do they know who they’re fucking with?”
It’s brilliant.
Mick is brilliant.
I love Doom:)
it's a horror game
but for the demons
that was an awesome point
Carrion thought it was unique. But they forgot that they only thing they fear is You.
In DOOM you are the boss.
It’s not scary if you have a way to defend yourself, remember this.

amazing game and soundtrack is perfect
couldn’t agree more
You’re god damn right.
The thing about DOOM's music, is that it is a translation of "CyberDemon" in the most literal sense, mixing Electronic and very "Manufactured" sounds, with the Visceral, Agressive metal sound. Mick Gordan executed this perfectly and i believe DOOM's soundtrack is one of the best Video Game scores in the last Decade.
Ima get flack for this but I instantly think of Celldweller when it comes to rock and electronic. The older style of Celldweller.
@@WhirlingMusic thats why mic is good as is celldweller they adopt the good traits of those and make them into something even better the same way celldweller did. People were so mad about it sounding like a techno metal but given the game this music belongs to as the first comment said this works perfect.

@@WhirlingMusic quite cool, seeing how Celldweller stepped in to work on Season 3 soundtrack of Killer Instinct, that was worked on By Mick Gordon in seasons 1 and 2

Le Croissant same
Yep. Not a metal guy either but it fits the games overall appeal. And it makes you feel like a super badass. Honestly without the music, this game would probably be difficult to appreciate as much as I currently do. Same goes for Hotline Miami. The music just gives it that extra MMMMMMMM TASTY factor. The game alone is just ice cream. But with the music, it turns it into a premium Dairy Queen blizzard.

Someone: "Synthwave makes everything better."
Mick Gordon: "Hold my guitar."
Lots of metalheads enjoy the synthwave as well (famous Perturbator for example was a guitarist in the black metal band), so, i would say, both are amazing. Besides, for some reason, synthwave fits with the violent and bloody games as well, i can't imagine Hotline Miami with another soundtrack

This man is a musical genius. This score he forged achieves what I like to call the Zinogre effect, where there is next to nothing to compare it to because it produces something so unique.
The music in DOOM is fucking sick. It needs to become a new genre.
more like Djent
djendustrial metal ftw
It's already a genre, called Djent.
It's not entirely a djent genre. I asume that people how call this kind of metal a djent actualy dont like it and dont hear it. I though that a couple of month before and i run to search in the web to see if i can find anything remotely like this. But i found nothing so far. Please go to the search box and type djent and hear as many as you can and you will know. That the great majority of so colled djent are entirely palm mute sound gitars and when i say entirely its entirely. An entire song of only palm mute that is djent. This is more like a mix of genres it have industrial, electronic and of course a very heavy tone of guitar with much palm mute but not all. Of course i know that this have the structure of a djent but have much more variations than just palm mute.
DOOM Metal..... oh no this genre exists since years :D
The actual game is amazing, dont get me wrong, but I would pay more money for the soundtrack than the game, holy shit this is good.
same.
Exactly my thoughts, this fucking crushing, absolutely have to have this!
I've been listening to doom 2016 soundtrack videos for just about 2 months now and I hope that I can buy his soundtrack now
Reminds me of the soundtrack to Carmageddon by Fear Factory. Instrumental versions of Demanufacture's best tracks.
the actual game is, sadly, a dumb shooter with bloated visual sensory overload of graphic design. Shooters have run their course, imo.
But the soundtrack is interesting, yes.
3:08
that, that sound right there.
the first time I've heard it, I absolutely crack a huge smile and nod a long while playing the game cause holy fuck that's so good
When a soundtrack is so good you get hyped for a game that came out 3 years ago
Same
And you don’t even have a PC or console to play it on 😂
I remember screaming in a bloodrage in the one level when I was fighting like 30 demons and the 2:09 song was playing
Pure extasy!
I remember that first time it came on, the music made me so immersed in the game and just brought it to an entirely new level. Mick is a genius with his style for this game, the way that the music changed on the intense scenarios and knowing how I played would reflect the music, brought out another side of me I didn't know existed lol
Where is Doom Guy on the pecking order?

Honest to god, it was amazing that Mick got to create the soundtrack for DOOM. It's sad that he won't be returning to the company, but at least we've got Andrew and David. Although they may not live up to the legacy, they've created amazing songs, such as "The Blood Swamps"
Can't wait for the DOOM Eternal: Behind the Music video to drop.
BFG Division just gets my blood pumping. I love it
You Mick Gordon, not only made my childhood for Killer Instinct come back and filled me with tears of joy, but you did the same with Doom. And I'm so unbelievably happy to listen to such hardcore metal-techno music while slaughtering demons. And I must say, BFG Division is my most favorite out of the rest of the already awesome soundtrack. Thanks to you, my childhood has come back. Much Respect. Doom (2016) wouldn't be as good as it is now without your music. You're a genius mick! Can't wait for part 2!
The music in Doom is such a big and great part of the very intense experience that is Doom. I think it's even better than the music of Homeworld which was extremely good and atmospheric and fit the game so great. I feel that this music does the same, but even better.
Doom is the first game I've played I think where I didn't turn the music down/off. I turned everything else down instead.
All the time i play DOOM i just can't stop keep my head shaking after each fight.
It’s a shame that Mick Gordon, is no longer the composer of the series now. He was such a mad scientist musician and DOOM was basically the culmination of his best projects. It was amazing to hear what he came up with. There will be no other game soundtracks like DOOM, it was the perfect mix of hard metal and hard drum and bass.
Hey how thick do you want these strings? Mick Gordon: THICKER

You, sir, have made it to the stuff of legends alongside Sonic Mayhem and Trent Reznor. Thanks for making the most epic video game soundtracks I've ever had the pleasure of cranking high on my headset!

jbsosa100 You, sir, are an asshole. not even saying this as a fan of doom, or Mick, I’m saying this as an honest person. You’re an asshole.
The Doom 2016 soundtrack clearly shows, that there is still a lot to discover in the modern music era. The purest diamond!
I honestly can't think of a better soundtrack to match the tone and feel of a game than what mick pulled off.
When the music makes it feel like YOU'RE the boss enemy, something went very, very right.
That soundtrack will be legendary for decades to come.
Here's hoping he can keep that same degree of "old, yet new, and totally unique" that he did with eternal.
Why haven't they released the soundtrack yet? Money is flying onto my screen, but it looks like ripped mp3s are going to be obtainable sooner. Seriously, how could they not have released it on itunes yet?
edit: I keep blasting Meshuggah as a substitute but no - I really wan't this one on my phone :P
+Rafal Kruszewski I'm tremendously surprised there wasn't a soundtrack released with the game, via pre-order bonus or special edition of some kind.
The one game in 2016 that actually made sense having a soundtrack release with the game...THE ONE GAME! And it doesn't! I don't have nearly enough goats around my house to sacrifice to get my hands on this soundtrack!
+Hagz Mick Gordon needs to get with Bethesda about it. Then he needs to rearrange the dynamic music in Doom into a soundtrack. There is a LOT of steps that need to be take for this to happen. This was also the case with the Killer Instinct soundtrack.
But the tracks are all in the game files...they've been uploaded by so many people already! He could even just put em all on bandcamp and I'm sure many of us would be happy ^)^
I seriously feel that a soundtrack should be released.

Just watched your GDC 2017 talk. Super inspiring, man. Love the concepts about adding white noise with same freq on top of low freq tones, the multiple effect chain layering, as well as the chainsaw/guitar morphing. So appropriate and effective.
