Hanoi airport to the city center is roughly 1 hour ; Saigon airport to the city center is 15-20mins ..........so Saigon should cost 100.000-150.000 per person, whereas Hanoi should be 200.000-250.000 person ........ To be correct you are lost in both cities ...if you don't have much luggage ask for buses, they have buses in both airports to the city centers for 1/10 of the taxi costs. Please do more research and pay more attention to bus services then you should be fine .

Don’t worry! 500,000VND for a taxi from the airport to the city center is actually not a scam 😊 most price ranges for this route is around 500,000 so don’t worry. The locals might get a better price at 400,000 (because we bargain 😂) The route is long, it’s normal here.

@greatrug427 100k is because the hotel you said is near the airport. If further, the price obviously has to be higher. 300K is also a good price, and this usually is with discounts in app or something (like you can bargain).

@@VIVIDBLISS 2 days is quite a rush. You can stay in Hanoi for a night. Also there is a national event (Independence Day) from August 28th to September 2nd, and hotel price is likely higher than normal days.
A good price range for 1 night 2 people in Hanoi Old Quarter is from 600.000 VND to 1.500.000 VND. If less than 600, the room might be very basic like a small apartment with limited services. If more than 1.500, these rooms are mostly from luxurious hotels or something similar.
If your family is like 3-4-5 people, the price should go up depends on the number of your family members. Like from 900.000-2.500.000

I just do not want to shop in VN at free market. I always look for elderly sellers who are always honest with the price and I can pay them double to help them and I do not mind that. 3:20 Baguette first appeared in Vietnam in the north, brought by the French. But "Bánh mì" (Vietnamese sandwich) was made by Saigon (Ho Chi Minh) people. Southerners also eat more bánh mì than north and central.

Bia Hoi is the cheapest beer in Hanoi at 10k, some places 7k but it's draft not canned or bottled. In 2018 we frequented Bia Hoi's. Great people & conversation. It was the first time my husband visited since he left in 1971. We lived there 3 years until June 2021 when VN required all tourist to vacate country for increase C19 cases. We want to go back again so badly to live again but visa for Americans is just 30 days. Vietnam, we miss and love you very much🇻🇳💛❤!

The visas are now 90 days. Not sure if you can leave the country and come right back, but you can try it and see. I think some people were able to do that to stay more than 3 months back-to-back.

@@doodahgurlie ahhh, appreciate your reply! We did our 90 day tourist visa runs to Thailand 2x until I secured a 1 yr tourist visa which expired Mar 2020,height of C19. We did that 1 day visa run to Cambodia, supposedly taken but turned into a 20 day trip on account of Vietnam Airlines denial to board! We returned via bus to HCMC boarder where we spent 2 nights quarantined then ambulance transport for 12 more days to a quarantine facility. An unused military installation where we co-ed our squat toilets and showers. No mask there only in our bunk areas. It's good news that Vietnam is more confident in tourist stays there!

Yup hoan kiem area is great place to stay but depends on which side of lake. The red bridge side is prefer .
Anywhere Old quarter is good.... Ours was the light hotel .. good walking distance to lake and beer street and train street. Remember the basic 2 level rooms are without windows or view.

Only traditional taxis are allowed to pick-up customers right at the airport exit . For Grab you have to go outside. Another cheap option is the airport bus that drops you near the Old Quarter and you have walk a bit .
