Yes this beautiful song about the stages of facing death went through my head most nights as I laid in my hospital bed contemplating the possibility of my own death. Somehow the song gave me comfort during the 5 weeks I spent in the hospital. My faith in Jesus and knowledge of the historical evidence for His Resurrection has removed my fear of death although I hope to live as long as possible to improve spiritually and help other people in any way I can. I do prefer the album version I grew up listening to, and love the story of how Clare Torry got the ''gig'' and was given free reign by the band to improvise. Her talent and creativity contributed greatly to making the song a unique classic. It was nice to see when she won her court case to be more fairly compensated for her brilliant soulful singing.

Pink Floyd began in London in 1965. Almost 30 years later in 1994, you can see 3 members of Pink Floyd from the 1960s performing live at around age 50 at their PULSE CONCERT performances.

IMHO, this is THE song...the definitive song...encapsulating every way in which we experience time and how much of a profound effect it has on us...and it goes beyond the lyrics and so many feel "Spaced out" which you could scientifically define as the perceptual distortion of time through music...

Since my first ex-wife was a bit younger than me, I introduced her to Pink Floyd. The first time she heard this she freaked a bit because she had a "thing" for loud bells. But she fell in love with them almost as much as I do. Dark Side of the Moon is a concept album so using the sound effects was pretty much experimental, and not just with this song. The best way to listen to the album is straight through, sitting in a bean bag chair with headphones and enjoying whatever relaxes you. One thing is you don't just listen but experience it. I've even seen people weep with their first time.

Time is infinite, but not for us.
Time ends for us as we celebrate The Great Gig in The Sky....... the end of OUR own personal time.
Do Time again and let it flow into The Great Gig........for me they are one song in 2 parts.
I guarantee that the lyrics will amaze you...... the Great Gig is a very special song best on vinyl or original CD.
Once you have completed the above, then you are ready to experience Pink Floyd live from Pulse in 1994 to Echoes, live in Pompeii , 1971 but released in 1972 and the movie released in 1973. lol

Bob Dylan can write some pretty cool lyrics. I'd recommend the album version of 'Brownsville Girl'. It really takes you on a journey. It starts with him talking about a movie he saw one time, and throughout the song he gradually forgets what it was about...
"How far y'all going? Ruby asked us with a sigh.
We're going ALL the way, 'til the wheels fall off and burn.
'Til the sun peels the paint and the seat covers fade,
    and the water moccasin dies.
Ruby just smiled and said, Ah you know some babies never learn!"

The lyrics hit so hard at 07:34, it's shocking. Yes, they really went there. Britain was just barely holding on as a country in the early 1970s when this was written, and by the late 1970s would become in many ways a very bleak and depressing place as the post-war, post-imperial economy disintegrated and the rest of the world started to leave us behind. "Hanging on in quiet desperation" truly is The English Way. If any song captured the mood of a whole nation that was rapidly becoming simply *exhausted,* it's probably this one.

Or you were just about to find out who did it in a movie and the power shuts off!! That's what it's like when you pause in the middle of a David Gilmour guitar solo!!!

  •  Год назад

Hi Friend! You're asking for better lyrics. IMO, Pink Floyd has already done that, in Echoes, with:
    Strangers passing in the street
By chance, two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me
And do I take you by the hand
And lead you through the land
And help me understand the best I can?
I recommend the studio version first, because the live version is cut in parts => ruclips.net/video/53N99Nim6WE/видео.html&pp=ygURcGluayBmbG95ZCBlY2hvZXM%3D

It t always seems pointless 'remastering ' Floyd. The sound was so perfect on the original, I don't know how any sound engineer believes they can 'improve' it! Believe me, the original sounds just as good. I suppose endlessly releasing 'remastered' versions every few years keeps sound engineers in work but it still seems pointless. Most of the major bands from the era of classic rock, were album bands. They didn't make throwaway music, to play in the background. They made music that you sat down, no distractions, and listened to. Really listened to. Audio quality was important to them and it's never been bettered in my opinion. Production techniques are much more advanced nowadays but everything is massively OVER produced, leeching the life out of the music. In the 70s the balance between raw music and production was just right. Nowadays production has superseded music, generally speaking.

Great reaction but just fyi, never pause in a David Gilmour guitar solo. Unwritten but well known rule among Floydians. Been listening to these guys since they started and there is no better band! The music is genius, their talent is insane and every song has a deep meaning. Deep rabbit hole but they'll be in your life forever now and will never get old!
