    5:42 This is actually an original story taking place 10 years after Fallout 4 the latest game in the timeline. So all the characters and many of the locations were created for this show including Vault 33, 32, 31 along with the town of Filly. California was the setting of Fallout 1 and 2 so we've seen L.A before in Fallout 1 but that was a good 100 years before the events of this show. So yeah the show is set within the Fallout universe but is not based on any of the games.
    The games also feature characters we create ourselves for example in Fallout 1 our character was simply known as *The Vault Dweller* while in Fallout New Vegas we were *The Courier* two characters with not much backstory allowing us the player to create our own. So by creating a show about the events of a game you end up removing all the player freedom in both how the character looks along with any choices made throughout the game.
    So yeah 100% an original story that builds off from the lore and history of the past games dating back to 2161 with Fallout 1 up to 2287 with the events of Fallout 4 and finally 2296 the events of this show.

    It´s a new story with (mostly) new characters in the Fallout world. So in the games you won't play as either of those characters. (in fact you always create your own character in the games) The show is set years after the games, so the games wouldn't actually spoil anything directly and would just provide some background knowledge. That being said, some stuff in later episodes might be less surprising for those who played the games. However, overall the show is made in a way that you can enjoy it, whether you played the games or not.

    When the Knight mentions pursuing remnants that turn out to be toaster ovens... remember that given the technological path of Fallout's retro future, there's a good chance that toaster oven is powered by a nuclear fuel cell.

      @@ReelReviewsWithJen In this universe, 50s culture stuck for over 100 years and we get a future that is like what people of the 1950s (pop culture) thought the future would actually look like. Also, this universe diverged from outs somewhere in the 40s because transistors were not invented, so things ran on vacuum tubes and such. Only near the end, did their tech start to make break-throughs.

    Really fun reaction. To clear a few questions up, there are a lot of Fallout games, each with their own adventure with new characters in the same world. This show isn't from any of the games, it's a new adventure with new characters that takes place in the Fallout world. You usually play as a Vault dweller in the games so it makes sense that Lucy is our main character.

    One if rhe genius things the games do is visual storytelling. Just by the posirions of bodies and the objects around them tell a story without saying a word 🤟😎

    The funny part of the scene with the mutant bear is that it’s true to the game that, even if you have good power armor, there are enemies and situations that still can have you running in fear for your life! Also “The Ghoul” is also A ghoul… ghouls are humans who, instead of dying, are transformed by radiation. They can behave like humans until they become feral, and animal-like.

    Ok quick lore breakdown. The ghoul is a ghoul. Ghouls arent dead(though their skin is necrotic ) they are a type of mutation. Exactly what causes the mutation is unknown but usually involves exposure to radiation.(They live an incredibly long time and radiation heals them but can go feral.. basically become mindless zombies) Also before this show the West Coast actually had a fairly developed civilization.(Think on the level of the late 18 or very very early 1900s) Southern California as well as parts of Mexico and Nevada was a nation called the New California Republic it had clean water, power, working trains, ranchers, and even some industry. It was home to merchant companies that traded across several south western states. Exactly what happened to all that civilization over the 15 years between New Vegas and this show is actually a fairly big question fans have.

    Despite some writing issues, the series captures the feel of Fallout and presents itself as if you are actually playing a game (rather than a traditional story). There are a lot of nods and easter eggs for those who have played the games.

  • @johnw8578
    @johnw8578 3 месяца назад

    Just a note -- ghouls are not dead or undead, but horribly mutated by radiation. They are long-lived but can eat and can die. a ghoul may well be human-like until the radiation affects their brains and they go feral -- attacking anything on sight. In the games, radiation usually heals ghouls (and they are also radioactive). Ghouls are disliked by other groups because one never knows when they will go feral. I read somewhere that Cooper is a different type of ghoul as he is "cleaner" than most ghouls (who are horrible rotted/scarred); they did this to ease the amount of make-up on the actor and also so he can show better facial expressions.

    Oh don't worry even Fallout fans went into this show pretty blind as it's a whole new story featuring original characters and locations created for the show. That's really the big difference between Fallout and The Last of Us shows. One continues the Fallout timeline jumping ahead 10 years to the West Coast with it's own original story while the other is an adaptation of the first Last of Us video game itself that changes some things around but for the most part is a one to one adaptation of the events of the game.
    You could also look at the Fallout TV show as Fallout 5 but personally I see the TV as setting up the events of a Fallout 5 set after the events of the show set within and around the same area. Would be really cool connection and would bring so many new fans into the series by being able to explore places from the show or even meet certain characters.

    "I'm curious why some were chosen for the vaults"... The real answer to that is you would need to play basically all the games. Depends on the vault, experiment, control, company in charge. Let's just say the reasons go from the benign-ish to the worst things you can possibly imagine.

    Movies, TV an games usually dont use real brand names unless its paid to be there. If X product is in a show, its competitor will not buy advertising. So they re-brand everything. The movies usually re-brand spam as smeat. I believe scram was directly from the game.

    • @ReelReviewsWithJen
      @ReelReviewsWithJen  3 месяца назад

      That wasn’t my experience working on movies but I’m sure it depends on the movie. We were allowed to use brands as long as got clearance from the company to show them, most brands just want to make sure we display their image in a way that won’t be perceived as negative. Aka- bad guys never use an Apple product.

    • @RebelCowboysRVs
      @RebelCowboysRVs 3 месяца назад

      @@ReelReviewsWithJen Thats free advertising though. Companies do want that. ET did that with M&Ms as I understand. But the people making the movie usually want paid product placement if they can get it. Its hard to sell something you are giving away for free. Coke is not going to pay for product placement on a show that people have been drinking Pepsi on camera already. In TV, you also want to sell commercial space. Advertisers dont buy commercial space in the timeslots of shows with their competitors products on it. Adam Savage has a series on it. One video is directly on smeat an its history.
