Those of us who were affected by the HIV tragedy in the 80s remember Dr. Fauchi: he was the most visible, compassionate man in the government. When the ACTUP activists demanded a place at the table of drug development and approval, Dr. Fauchi listened to the leaders of ACTUP and advocated for them so that we *did* have a seat at the table. He's an amazing person. Yes, he's human. He tried, again, to bridge the divide and to please both Trump and the science. But, he's human and he can make mistakes. I believe he always knew masks were there right thing, but he gave in to pressure from Trump. Unlike Trump, Fauchi never had bad motivations. If Dr. Fauchi is a celebrity, it's reluctantly. He knows he must be present in people's minds to be effective while at the same time not being a celebrity. We haven't seen him on TV much lately, when it would be so easy for him to book interviews and get exposure. He obviously doesn't want it. All he would have to do is say the truth: Trump has been lying to you. But he won't go there. He's too much of an adult to lower himself to Trump's level. I respect Dr. Fauchi as one of the great, selfless scientists of our time. I think those of you not in the United States don't understand just how corrosive and malignant the Trump administration really is. Fauchi got involved in a situation where no matter what he did, Trump would fault him for it. He realizes he can't win, so he's gone back to work.

Well said Brian - I'm not a 'medical person' - just a retiree with a dear wife - while both of us are considered 'vulnerable' due to our ages and underlying medical issues.. so, I have the time to watch many RUclips channels - like this one - to keep up to speed - it is scary, especially to people like us who really only have ' one chance ' ie don't catch it, but wait for a viable vaccine.. I don't believe Dr Fauci has appeared on the WH Cvid 'team' for nearly 2 months, no doubt because he is not your normal ' Trump yes-man ' - I've seen him directly contradict Trumps' ' it'll go away ' - ' it's only like the flu ' assertions several times, and I've seen both his appearances before Congress and the Senate as an 'expert witness'.. he certainly does not come across as a 'celebrity' as Dr John implies - I bet he's so glad he is no longer 'called' to back up his ( T ) abject lies to the people.. and this is for you Dr John - try ' Admiral 'Grrr-wahr ' - summat like that - tho' a little less of a 'yes-man' than arse-lickin' Pence, he just now starting to tell the truth.. but what is it with these high- ranking military 'experts'.. surely the President can't sack them on a whim?.. afraid to lose their pension or what.. and all this from a coward who dodged his own military draft - 5 times?.. it's time this guy was sent to the 'funny farm' before he does anymore damage..

Dr Fauci is an American physician and immunologist who has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984.
During the early stages of the pandemic, The New Yorker and The New York Times described Fauci as one of the most trusted medical figures in the United States and a leading expert on infectious disease.
As a physician with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Fauci has served American public health in various capacities for over 50 years, and has been an advisor to every U.S. president since Ronald Reagan. He has made contributions to HIV/AIDS research and other immunodeficiencies, both as a scientist and as the head of the NIAID at the NIH, and from 1983 to 2002 was one of the world's most-cited scientists in scientific journals.

It was couched in the same kind of pro-freedom language as well. We Americans are always trying to be free in the most selfish and moronic ways. Actually it’s just a bunch of immature and psychologically unstable adults throwing tantrums when reality doesn’t match up to their expectations. We are leaderless at the moment and you all in the outside world should be seriously concerned. We have been couped and most of us haven’t noticed this yet. It’s going to get much worse. Dear Dr John please understand that as incomprehensible as it is, here in the US we are no further along in coping with the pandemic than in March and that is completely due to our political problem. Literally last week the “president” said things were improving and too many still believe him which horrifies those of us who are of normal intelligence. Please know that here in New Jersey masks have been mandatory for ages (all businesses have signs saying so) and we have only outdoor dining as part of “phase 2” reopening. Everyone complies and so we are seeing improvements but sadly I now see a lot of people wearing their mask under their nose. Also it’s appalling that malls have reopened but not pools so instead of people outside in the sunshine they’re enjoying my country’s national pastime of shopping in the air conditioned mall but at least the food courts aren’t open for indoor dining. It’s all so haphazard that it’s obvious no one knows what to do because again the “president” contradicts any scientific statements no matter how basic. Perhaps you missed it in UK but he did hypothesize about taking disinfectants internally to kill the virus. It’s a very sad situation here in the US and I ask your followers to keep America in their prayers.

Doctors and nurses said DON'T wear masks early because doing so is stealing them from healthcare workers. They dug their own graves with this selfishness. Fauci was complicit in this by repeating the same nonsense as the WHO. It's not a Trump vs. Fauci issue, he was part of Trump's own pandemic response council and his ability to phrase the response in scientific terms was valuable to the administration. But they had to remove him because he was discredited not only because of the insanely stupid masks mantra but also because of Fauci's ties to the viral research programs that likely caused this outbreak to begin with. In other words, people who were suspicious about the apparently deliberate infection of the US population looked into Fauci's agency and found even more cause for suspicion. So there's no point in having him continue to give press conferences when they will only give more ammunition to those who see a conflict of interest and potentially crimes being committed.

Dr. Fauci was never espousing the notion in general that people should not wear a mask. His concern was that they were not sufficient masks in the country and that they were primarily and strategically needed for the first responders and people in the hospitals
Because of the lack of facemasks he initially asked the general public to not go out and buy masks less there be an adequate supply for the healthcare workers.
early on many in many of our hospitals we did not have adequate masks

I am 70 have copd, 60 % lung cap and htn. Last night fever spiked 100.7 and chest pain with cough. Pulse ox 90. Usually 95 or above. I found a place to test that just opened last week in parking lot of my supermarket. I was only person there at first. I think nobody knows it is there. No cost, no appointment and no symptoms needed. Tested again with a different test, the long tip high in nose. Glad it was different. Other was new one with short tips made for self test. It was at a private urgent care. This AM I called my GP as the online info said , interruped in midlle of sentence to call covid number which I called for 3 days last time without an answer. Now it doesnt even ring just a wierd busy signal. I called the urgent care I had gon to back and she was very kind saying she thought I might need ER. Tried to call ER they have same busy signal. Finally as last resort called son. Did not want to worry him. His mother in law is in nursing home and she was positive once already with no symptoms and Sat 4 more staff sick. So very terrible. NH no longer even have time to do facetime anymore. They get update call about every 2 weeks. I think it scared him. I heard it in his voice. I cancelled other Dr appts, PT, and a cleaning service. I start over again. I want this to go away whatever. I am sick of this fever headache and now coughing hurts it more. My son said today has been 2 weeks, anything could have happened in 2 weeks during this huge surge. My dog had surgery Thurs for mass in mouth, I was out several places then. This situation more sureal daily.

I was born n London (England) and emigrated to the USA (Texas) 20 years ago. The thing about America that has worked against an effective response to COVID-19 (to me anyway), is the devolved nature of power. Each state can go it's own way in so many aspects of all this. Without Federal leadership, so many of the states have indeed squandered the potential good situation that we found ourselves in after the last few months of sacrifice on the altar of 'personal freedom' and economics. As someone born and raised outside the USA, this is so sad and appears to be almost completely avoidable.

Be happy no bullets are flying (near you). But the definition of warfare: is the continuity of political discourse via military means. Relax on the virus (not as bad as these knuckleheads are spreading; if so bad... Why all the merging of influenza and pneumonia to push covid numbers up?).
Controlling a culture, and in this case globally, is a method. Top-down, bottom-up and inside-out. In a smaller example: Al Sharpton/George Soros are hand puppeting NYC mayor; also in league with MSM; and sponsor/guide BLM and ANTIFA. Police hands are tied, media is complicit, fake protestors cause riots. Excuse for changes made to limit peoples freedom, change culture, and seize monies/assets.
A virus narrative IS BIOLOGICAL warfare (even if no bug ever existed); biological warfare is to curtail economic and political outcomes. What would happen to EU if Englands economy had started to look like how America was booming before Covid? Real stories being quited by fake MSM:
Federal Reserve has been absorbed into the US treasury!! In effect; This is Huge.
Jeffrey Epstein/Guislane Maxwell/Julian Assange/El Chapo/Bengazhi emails/Weiner' s insurance policy. Well I'm from Canada and I think it is a total cop out to say this. It's painfully obvious: unbridled capitalism. The U.S. had a slave class that fueled its economy, as did Britain, whose empire was a global slave market. Much of Europe did. In the Belgian Congo, 60 million were killed. Yes, an untalked about holocaust. There are many. In time, it became less fashionable and more impossible to have an immigrant nation like the U.S. with actual slaves. But democracy was still a word for the whites. Not for the Aboriginal - the "Indians" long relegated to reserve lands. The almighty dollar takes over; the free market. The American Dream. The Americans worship their constitution, as long as it keeps guns in their hands and their right to take advantage of whomever they choose; it's just "business". Anything threatening the "free enterprise" ways of the top 1% of earners is panned as "socialism". And the cycle turned the millionaires of the 20th century into the billionaires of the 21st century at the expense of the majority. It's not so difficult to get the politics of the United States of America straight. You follow the money. You listen past the patriotic crap and watch what they do: take advantage, now of most of their own people. The middle classes are so screwed because their own lying politicians distract them with issues of race; divide and conquer - the siren song of the counterfeit, soulless Trump. The one they chose to lead. They are half morally bankrupt, and like an empire whose best days are past, they expire from within. Much is good in their culture and their diversity, but the Greed god has ripped them to the core.

Trumpism is quite simple. Trump is a megalomaniac who wants to be re-elected. Contrary to popular opinion, he was abysmal as a businessman and will be in a big financial mess if he loses his present job. No president has ever been re-elected on a failing economy and Covid-19 is destroying the economy. So close your eyes and pretend it doesn't exist. Push people back into their jobs and open schools to get things rolling again, no matter how crowded the mortuaries become. The man does not give a FIG about you or me. The really horribly pathetic thing about all this is not Trump himself, but his followers, his political base - how about 30-40% of American people can be so easily manipulated by their stereotypes, xenophobia, egos, and misdirected self-interest is incomprehensible to me.

As to your thinking on the heat in the south (should also include the SW U.S.). I live in SW and many people use swampcoolers much more than AC. I'm retired VP of R&D for a molecular filtration, both gases and liquids. The swampcoole in my home brings in outside very dry air (often single digit humidity) at the rate of 5900 cfm. It adds moisture bring the humidity to 40-50%, and replaces the air in my home approximately every 15 to 20 minutes with air from the desert that is already much cleaner.

In Colorado we got very lucky with covid. Early closing.
Unfortunately our federal government has failed us from the top down.
State wide it has been every dog for themselves. Mayors of cities do what political parties mandate.
Ignorance can be fixed by education, stupid cannot be fixed. (Bell Curve).
We as a country are in a train wreck.
I don't have to crunch the numbers for you, it's simple math.
I'm sorry my generation let this happen.
I will do everything I possibly can to change our current trend.

Gary: Your generation did NOT let this happen. 72,000,000 were born in USA 1946-1970. They integrated the working class men and women into higher education and make K-12 nearly universal. They got rid of outhouses, ice boxes, and having to walk or hitchhike everywhere. They got electricity into nearly every home. They built the national highway system. They almost completely stopped child labor.
From 1971 to 199, USA had 33,000,000+ births, not even 34,000,000. 33,000,000+ cannot replace 72,000,000 in the economy. Can't be done. But that is why we had near full employment prior to SARS2. Because if the drop in population, there will be an upcoming shortage in most professions. Brace for that!
From 1996 to 2020, USA had had 100,000,000 born--more than in the previous 50 years! There will be a crushing glut in unskilled entry level job seekers. That is easy to use to break Social Security through crusibg minimum wages producing underfunding.
The BEST you can do is advocate for the $15/hr living wage minimum wage. That is enough to find Social Security ongoing.
If you have energy left over, encourage everyone whobexoects to earn wages to take anyv25 credits at the local college or community college, do they can qualify for lifetime access to the job list at the Student Placement Office. Increasing numbers of employers list nowhere else.
If you could do those 2 things, you would transform the nation.
Unskilled entry level job competition is going to become crushingly competitive.
Combine that with robotics/AI and you will have a whole different econony.
Global warming has been solved. Implementation is lagging. Co2 can be reversed through addibg rock dust to agricultural land and reintroducing cows, sheep, it hosts, to semi-arid land globally.
There is important stuff for you to do everyday for the rest of your life. Carrying around guilt is not one of those.
Denver is an excellent place to start.

Elected leaders make up a tiny, tiny portion of the government of the US. You get to elect one person to the federal executive branch, the rest are appointed from a pre-picked list, career employees, and usually chosen by industry lobbyists. I don't believe any president would have greatly changed the US pandemic response; the FDA and CDC allow carcinogenic chemicals to be sprayed on the vast majority of our food supply. They spray Roundup on our beans and grains as a pre-harvest desiccant, plus other chemicals that are banned in Europe, contaminating the majority of what Americans eat just before harvest. The CDC pushes annual flu vaccines that used to cause thrombocytopenia among other issues, probably still do. The FDA routinely approves drugs that turn out to have only placebo benefit with extremely harmful side effects, they outsource the testing and regulatory compliance to the drug companies who police themselves, bringing prescription drug injuries and deaths in the US to among the highest on earth. These organizations aren't going to suddenly become effective advocates for health when a new president is elected, they advise the president not the other way around.
