      And yet you csn become a csi tech without police academy. Ive avtually seen such jobs posted. Theyre rare, but the. Again ANY CSI job is rare, regardless of requirements. He also said that those with patrol experience had to atill go to colkege with "goofy college kids" because being a patrol officer wint teach you how to extract dna, will it? Qnd does it teslach them the chemistry software or the endless algebra behind chemistry? Nope. As as another commentator states, many who becime patrol officers do so because they dont want a desk job, I bet.

    I'm a CSI student and I landed an internship at a coroner's office. It was very easy to get in and I'm trying to learn as much as I can about how the whole system works. I figured it was good to get in on a county level, get my foot in the door. Then I'm gonna apply for forensic tech jobs cuz I heard they hire civilians sometimes. I'm hoping the internships I plan to do will count as experience and I'll get some good references.

After watching this video, I became a bit upset, undetermined, and unsure of myself because everything that you pointed out about the process of actually becoming a homicide detective is the opposite of everything I was told on the internet. I wish I would’ve watched this video about 2 years ago and I wouldn’t be as upset as I am because I wouldn’t have wasted my time on the internet. I really didn’t want to be a police officer and having to wait 8-10 years, on top of having to take a test and having a slight chance that I’ll get the job I been wanting and working for. One thing that was missed. It’s all well and good to have goals. Don’t give up on goals. However in the case of my department. Sometimes it takes years for a position to even come open to be promoted to a detective position. Just have to pay the “dues” and prove your worth it to the department.

    Is it realistic to work on criminal cases regularly as a private investigator without going into the police academy to get your license?

    • @Yugophoto
      @Yugophoto 5 лет назад +1

      The thing to remember about being a P.I. is that you are typically hired by a private person or a company to investigate. Police don't contract out. The vast majority of your work will be civil (insurance claims, cheating spouses, maybe even background investigation)
      Any criminal work you do would have to be related to something the client wants. The most common example I could think of is fraud. Even then your evidence would likely be used in civil proceedings (lawsuits etc) or handed off to the police. Its extremely rare for P.I.s to get anything really big, and in those rare cases it's usually desperate families hiring someone to investigate a cold case or something

    I would like to add to the myth busting also, as I fell for the trap (sort of ) myself.
    I wanted to get into training people. On the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 I shut my construction company down and went back to college at 39 years old. The school never told me until after I got there that there are age limits on Federal employment. Once I knew this they told me to hang in because the Fed's were going to raise the age, and they did, to one year younger than I was at graduation. All the local agencies around me have "no tobacco for two years" policies.
    So I am now in private security trying to dig my way up and out.
    Do not think that how well you do in college and/or how much prior experience you have will walk you in the door (despite what the guidance counselors say).
    Just my 2 pennies.
