2:46 To be honest one of the reasons I really prefer TR Underworld is that you have relevant freedom in the moves, the jumps and all.The fact that some parts are diffcult and the players usually ''jump into their death'' makes it more challenging because you have to find the right way to it. Not like the older games where every jump was the same. TR Underworld was the only game in the series I could play *again* and *again* without getting bored of it.
+Guitar Lessons BobbyCrispy I'm looking at repurchasing all the tomb raiders and completing them all one at a time. The original 5 were the best by farrrrrrrr. The price of them is predictably high though, and the steam version on pc is buggy and will ruin your experience. Why can't they just re-release the first 5 on a more modern console? hell update the Textures to HD while your at it.
Man, I miss the old Lara. It be nice to see another game like the classic series (not knocking the new games in anyway, they're fantastic in there own right.).
I feel sorry for people that are too young to have experienced the first Tomb Raider when it was released in 1996. It was completely mind blowing at the time.
Anniversary, Underworld and Legends are better than the 2013 trilogy. I know it's my opinion. I don't need someone saying, "That's your opinion!" Yes, it is obviously.
For anyone going crazy with the terrible camera on PC... After playing the first couple of levels it became very apparent that this game was designed for console, not PC. The camera is ridiculously bad, unplayable bad. I was just about to rage quit when I decided to give it a go with my XBox 360 controller plugged in. The difference is night and day. With keyboard and mouse I absolutely hated this game. Now with my XBox 360 controller it is probably my favourite Tomb Raider I've played. (I haven't played 2013 version yet) There is no more twitching or the camera flicking in whatever direction it feels like. I have no idea why it makes such a big difference but it really does. I would definatly recommend that anyone on PC uses an XBox controller if you want to be able to enjoy this game.
i played it with the controller and the camera is so bad that it makes me go dizzy man. The camera in the reboot tomb raider games is much more polished and the movement doesn't feel clunky.
I played this game on my dads ps3 back when it came out. Never played the entire thing but havent played a tomb raider since. So my plan is to play this before I play the reboot trilogy.
@xy274 actually the climbing mechanics they implimented is actually the same just with add uses. such as perching from hanging, climbing up to wall hug, and shime in between to pillars.
I've played TR in various incarnations and I have to say, I did enjoy this a lot. The review scores I've seen of '7' do it a slight disservice. The environments are deceptively expansive and very immersive, the story, though largely schlock, enjoyable, and the climbing really tactile. I still prefer Anniversary, at a nudge, because the game is too short, the shooting mechanics are duff and there's not much unlockable content or multiple routes to serve as an incentive to replay through the game.
That's a good question. Hadn't thought of it in that way. Perhaps both (Avengers style where they're arguing at the beginning but team up at the end) but that might be a third option. Would it be in their characters to team up or to oppose each other? Personally, I'd like to see them working together but before that, I want to see her stand on her own because such a success together may be attributed more to Nathan than to her.
A little warning, TRU for Wii/PS2 are totally different than the 360/PS3/PC versions, as they were developed seperately. A lot was removed from the game and there are many more glitches. I wouldn't say one is harder than the other though. I love the Wii controls (manual shooting is great) but they were a step down from TR Anniversary for Wii, if you've played that as well.
I liked Legend, but this game just wasn't cutting it for me. I didn't like the change in the game engine. She seemed slower, you couldn't select what mission you wanted to play(you had to make saves which was highly inconvenient). The story wasn't that interesting and had a less satisfying ending. I thought Legend was the best in the Legend Trilogy. I haven't started the new trilogy yet, I'm hoping it's gonna be good. Tomb Raider Anniversary had very challenging puzzles compared to the other two, and I can testify that about 99.9% of all your deaths in that game will be from falling off a cliff. All I Played so far was the Legend trilogy and Legend is my favorite so far. Hoping to see the next trilogy to be better.
John Locke I think the new trilogy is awesome! But be aware that those games are a totally different kind of games. There is a big group who dislike them because it is not like the original TR games. But if you’re aware of that from the start there is a good chance you’re going to like the new games. And Lara isn’t that badass Tomb Raider yet, which will create a totally different relationship between you and Lara.
After playing Tomb raider legend and anniversary, I was so exited for underworld, but when I played it I was disapointed, the controls didn t respond as expected, and the camara was even worse, I was dying doing simple jumps. Is true, this game made scream to the tv, thing than never happened with legend or anniversary.
@unluckyfellow88 UsTomb Raider fans will have to hope during future games the development team corrects these flaws (which are definately prevalent). Ive said newer TR games lack the "Exploration Factor" and they are linear (just press to run foward and level is complete). In past games sometimes you had to go backwards to different spots within a level to complete it. You actually used to get lost or forgot where youre supposed to go in the older games because ''Exploration Factor" existed.
Looking forward to the new take on her with this latest game they're coming out with----I think we'll all favor her new image and relatability. The screenshots look AWESOME!
I absoluteley love Underworld, in fact I like every TR, Crystal's and Core's Tomb Raider! I didn't really encounter great bugs and even the camera wasn't such a big deal for me like everyone else say! The graphics were brillant and if TRU would have been a bit longer it would be perfect. But it's my favourite TR today. =)
I thought it was just me lol. I beat TR3, legend, anniversary. The rebooted ones are easier. The second and third are just... so much fun but hard as hell.
I think this is a good game and the camera isn't really a problem for me neither is jumping because most of the time when you miss the jump and fall to your death has a lot on what directions you're pushing to analog stick before you jump or trial and error like jumping to a place that is to far so when I die stupidly I blame myself not the game.
Just completed this game and wanted to check out what other people thought. Personally I thought it was really, really good. It did cost me £25 but it was the special edition and I would still say that it was worth the money.
After playing Uncharted, I tried out Tomb Raider Underworld but it didn't capture me in the same way. Uncharted had seamless gameplay (no loading screens), a cover system that worked, melee and shooting that didn't make the deaths feel cheap, whereas Tomb Raider felt more like a game than a cinematic experience but I haven't given up. Can't wait for 2012! Different kind of Lara than I'm used to (in terms of the character and art) but gameplay looks interesting and engaging!
@contracts47 Actually, there is only one available and it was only released the other night, I bought it on PSP. They might be available in the US, but not here in Aus.
@DanCroftWalkthroughs Well I think they are alike in many areas. Both have plenty of platforming, both have mythological storylines or undertones, both have puzzles and temples, both feature monsters, both tend to share jungle like areas. So I do think it is fair to compare them. But the difference between the two is that one focuses more on shooting/combat and platforming where as the other focuses more on puzzles and platforming.
I agree. Since tomb raider chronicles, the game was never the same. That's why i still play the old tomb raider's and some tomb raider costom levels, because some of theme do recreate the original tomb raider magic.
Both games play out like summer blockbuster movies, you have action, romance, humor. Well acted, you really care for the characters. Legends had a great story, decent graphics, fun platforming played how you would always want TR to play, Underworld took a flying dump on that and destroyed the franchise yet again. If you want that Indiana jones/TR Feel, you'll love Uncharted Drakes fortune, then you can get U2 after that and be floored for a second time.
@DanCroftWalkthroughs Actually they will make Uncharted 3. They have already started. These games were planned as a trilogy right from the get go. They just wanted more of a movie feel with no cliffhangers. So they took the movie route and decided to give each game its own story and villian for Nathan instead of having a continuous storyline through the trilogy. NaughtyDog makes a trilogy every gen, they started with Crach Bandicoot 1-3, then Jak and Daxter 1-3. Now Uncharted 1-3.
I would buy the game for Crystal Dynamics. This company respects the work of others which is why they brought the original creator of TR, Toby Gard into thier company, who hasn't been involve with the TR series after part 2.
I agree with janskrinjar, it really just comes to opinion. Like that argument that me and him got going that i am trying to stop :) I love these tomb raider games, the older ones not so much, but i just got underworld and legends yesterday and they are awesome. I personally enjoy uncharted a little more, but thats ok they are all good.
The last AAA Tomb Raider game about raiding tombs, awesome platforming, solving puzzles and walking sexily. Now its just about some b*tch called Lara and her shooting people, hammering people, falling, getting up, falling again and whining all the way.
***** Yea,.. . the new Tomb Raider can't be Lara's prequel if you played Tomb Raider The Last Revelation or was it 4 you will know she hunted endangered animals even as a Kid.
Was it really a AAA game? I've always had the feeling that this trilogy was more of a AA franchise. Except of course for the marketing, because that was huge for all of them.
@SonicBlastProcessing What whats wrong with that. Them rebooting and doing the survival game will show Lara turn into the adventurer we all know and love, and will open up to more games in the future that involve her hunting artifacts.
I've just beaten this game the second time, and it's really fun (I played on PC with an XBox Controller). The only thing that bothers me is that it's way too short, and the Treasure hunt is not really appealing. Said that, I'm going to switch to TR Anniversary, what I find is a bit more fun (has a nostalgic feeling). I'm really looking forward to TR 9. Until then, I'll watch Uncharted 2 Vids on RUclips crying a river that it's not released for PC :D
I second that, the Tomb raider franchise fits perfectly to a gameplay similar to Splinter Cell, and I don't mean a copy, similar gameplay but with the characteristics of Tomb Raider that would still make it feel like such.
hey they said at start that all consoles will be released at the same date. at least ps2 version was moved to juanuary 2009 instead of march. they must make sure it's good for letting us wait that long.
what would you perfer ,a battle with Lara Croft vs Nathan Drake or Them teaming up. Notice there is no third option ...P.S dont respond if you havent play 1 or more of these good icon's games.
I'm an old school TR gamer, and I really enjoyed the new TR. it is different to the classics, but it was fun, and mostly free of bugs that ruined the older games. I also have faith that this reboot will only make the TR experience better in future games.
I don't need to calm down because I wasn't genuinely flustered. I was actually being rhetorical, which seemed to have offended you, a "huge fan of both series." I was being objective so try to understand my argument, that a critically acclaimed Lara Croft game has yet to be released. She's an interesting character, but I don't think she has the respect she deserves as character. I'm looking forward to this title. It's not out yet so I can't bash it, but I hope it will be surprisingly good.
@LegoDinosaurMonkey Yeah, you can bet it is! It's so addicting because you get a bunch of adrenalin from it.Underworld is the best one too.And since it's so old,it's really cheap too!You should get it!
i dont believe so. The developers of Uncharted took primary inspiration from the action adventure genre in general, across all forms of media, not just video games. They werent trying to mimic tomb raider, as so many say. When TR was "revitalized" with Legend in 2006, Uncharted was already well in development as it was released in 2007. I doubt Naughty Dog wouldve looked at the AoD and the few before it for ideas.
Is Uncharted really that much about exploring and solving puzzels? I never bought it because I thought it was more of a shooter then anything els but if it's a lot like Lara Craft like everyone say and great story to boot then maybe I should look into it.
There is a mistake in this game. After her mother pulls the sword out the circle breaks in pieces. In Underworld, after Amanda and Lara travel back to nepal, the circle in whole again. How is that possible?
im starting to think they fired the team who did the classic games. i really like Legend and Chronicles. Underworld is... Well, to be honest, there arent many more ancient maya myths and Peru places to explore. The only option for a new tomb raider is to make up new myths.
Well... no, not really but they were in Legend and with no boss fights in this one, I would at least expect quicktime events in the game but there wasn't.
@tahneebabeeeee You're entitled to your opinion, however, that doesn't mean it's universally right. the moves in Underworld look more realistic than ever thanks to the motion capture, the triangle jump is the only thing that I don't think would be possible. Yes it may be different than the classics, that much is true, however don't let nostalgia block out all the great things Legend, Anniversary and Underworld have done, because they're not garbage ether.
In deed, it's a pity, I was so fascinated of the game (Uncharted) that I've watched the fool walkthrought. And I don't regret it. I also hope for improvements in Tomb Raider 9, but the true is that there are really few informations about the new game.
@Xblade1X Not sure if you can do this on psp but I know you can on ps3. If you can make a different account or something and say you're from Canada or America than you will be able to access those stores, which obviously will have different games.
I recently bought this game. It was this or Halo 3, dont worry Im getting that next time, I went there intending to get Underworld and Halo 3 was a great price but this was $2 cheaper
best ending to an ign review
2:46 To be honest one of the reasons I really prefer TR Underworld is that you have relevant freedom in the moves, the jumps and all.The fact that some parts are diffcult and the players usually ''jump into their death'' makes it more challenging because you have to find the right way to it. Just bought Tomb Raider: Underworld and really looking forward to playing it, having played several TR games since 1996.

Tomb Raider Underworld is really good! I hope you like it!
This Game is INSANE. Even 11 years after xD
@Tomb Raider How so?
Calm down wow. Its ok
Did it on PS3 now on PC wow it's amazing
@@bensmith5288 still better than the newer ones
Still an outstanding game to this day
This Lara is WAY HOTTER than the new one
Preach🙌🏼
Lol no
Man, I miss the old Lara. It be nice to see another game like the classic series (not knocking the new games in anyway, they're fantastic in there own right.).
Please don’t!
Hope you are enjoying the remasters, they are amazing
This was the best in the trilogy imo.
Anyone else just buy this for $6 off the steam store??
90 cents
sonny jim
It's actually $1.05 after tax 😉
You now could play this game in Steam Deck.
I feel sorry for people that are too young to have experienced the first Tomb Raider when it was released in 1996. It was completely mind blowing at the time.
watching game reviews from 2008 to figure out if an emu is worth getting. what a time to be alive.
Anniversary, Underworld and Legends are better than the 2013 trilogy. I know it's my opinion. I don't need someone saying, "That's your opinion!" Yes, it is obviously.
😂😂👌🏻
For anyone going crazy with the terrible camera on PC...

2013 tomb raider is my favourite played it on xbox one x
This game controls terrible even on console. It's unpolished.
i played it with the controller and the camera is so bad that it makes me go dizzy man. The camera in the reboot tomb raider games is much more polished and the movement doesn't feel clunky.
Jumping into this after playing "Rise of The Tomb Raider", is going to be qute the shock to the system.
I played this game on my dads ps3 back when it came out. Never played the entire thing but havent played a tomb raider since. So my plan is to play this before I play the reboot trilogy.
I did lol
2019 and I felt like watching it. Pure nostalgia.
Im only here because this is 98 cents on steam right now.
I just bought ALL 3 new TR games 2013-2018 for $30 Steam.
@@quadphonics ew
I'm playing It now, and it's amazing..best Tomb Raider ever...not the reimagine crap of now...Legend and this forever in my 💓
@wasdalie you need to get out of your house more, champ
If I to grade the first three Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider games, it would be:
1) Legend
2) Anniversary
3) Underworld
My choices are the opposite:
1) Underworld
2) Anniversary
3) Legend
"But it's still not the definitive Tomb Raider experience just yet..."
Crystal Dynamics heard that, and so comes Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
:D
Lol
*which removed Lara's facial expression animations lol
This is the most underrated tomb raider game
@xy274 actually the climbing mechanics they implimented is actually the same just with add uses. such as perching from hanging, climbing up to wall hug, and shime in between to pillars.
I've played TR in various incarnations and I have to say, I did enjoy this a lot. The review scores I've seen of '7' do it a slight disservice. underworld is the latest story based on its timeline.. sadly it didn't continue :(( i love this game a lot!
The game seemed to short for me, i loved the game so much i was craving for more!!!
A little warning, TRU for Wii/PS2 are totally different than the 360/PS3/PC versions, as they were developed seperately. A lot was removed from the game and there are many more glitches. Best TR of all Time :-)
2019 / 2020 :-D
I think legend is the best Tomb Raider :)
"...you can finally use common sence to fiogure out where to go.."
thats so trueee~~~~
The last real Tomb Raider game.
John Locke I think the new trilogy is awesome! But be aware that those games are a totally different kind of games. There is a big group who dislike them because it is not like the original TR games. But if you’re aware of that from the start there is a good chance you’re going to like the new games.
They really need to port Legend,Anniversary and Underworld on the Switch
facts
Still never beaten any TOMB RAIDER games except LEGEND lol
I thought it was just me lol. I beat TR3, legend, anniversary. The rebooted ones are easier. The second and third are just... so much fun but hard as hell.
I only beaten the remake
I beat Legend and Anniversary this month, started this up now XD
I love this game it rocks. It's one of my favorites out of the whole series!!!!!!
I just bought this game, and when my brother shifts off the XBox I will give it a go! Haven't played any Tomb Raider games for ages!
@Ljungdurst thats why he said it was for Lara fans, you have to love this franchise aboveall else or you won't get the adventure
After playing Uncharted, I tried out Tomb Raider Underworld but it didn't capture me in the same way. I know this reply is rather belated but.. just so you know, the song at the beginning is 'Requiem' by Mozart... oklie doklie...
I find this game so confusing, I don't have a clue what to do half the time.
***** I agree! I don't like having to think too much sometimes as I just like to play games for fun, really.
+Abir For the first level I didn't even know I had to go underwater xD
Abir thats a good thing! The classic were hard tho!
Abir true bro me too
Tomb raider at its heart is a puzzle series so that makes sense haha
Back in 2009 i borrowed my friend's discreet GPU to play this game. Now I can finally play this at 60 fps in intel UHD crap.
@DanCroftWalkthroughs Well I think they are alike in many areas. nothing like adding Mozart to a tomb raider game lol
I agree. Since tomb raider chronicles, the game was never the same. That's why i still play the old tomb raider's and some tomb raider costom levels, because some of theme do recreate the original tomb raider magic.

True 😢 we have enough generic third person shooters... pls bring back those complex platform/puzzle tomb raiders
It's Mozart's Requiem, but this specific section is called Lacrimosa. It's considered to be one of the greatest pieces of music ever created.
you can find it on the ripped ost.. is called roll back destruction
@Ljungdurst Still worth for 20 Euro or Darksiders for 15 Euro?
I would buy the game for Crystal Dynamics. This company respects the work of others which is why they brought the original creator of TR, Toby Gard into thier company, who hasn't been involve with the TR series after part 2.
I played the Ps2 version. I couldn't believe that the game was actually chopped in half!!!
@ReNo0x I got the platinum in 'Legend', 'Anniversary' and 'Underworld'. =D
I agree with janskrinjar, it really just comes to opinion. Like that argument that me and him got going that i am trying to stop :) I love these tomb raider games, the older ones not so much, but i just got underworld and legends yesterday and they are awesome. I personally enjoy uncharted a little more, but thats ok they are all good.
im an uncharted fanboy and fucking love it as well....so the question still remains
@chride87 it's worth it mate,3 games for good price you can't go wrong
The music was beautifully done.
Graphics was much nicer than all the rest
Only thing that flopped was sonar map and weppon attacks.
Cant believe we got the new trilogy after this game. What a shame
The last AAA Tomb Raider game about raiding tombs, awesome platforming, solving puzzles and walking sexily. Now its just about some b*tch called Lara and her shooting people, hammering people, falling, getting up, falling again and whining all the way.

Since a Tomb Raider game is coming out next year I have decided to go through Tomb Raider 1 again on the PS1.

I'm here from 2021 for no reason at all
Lol I’m here because I’m replaying it on the series s
i dont believe so.
Tomb Raider Chronicles, Tomb Raider The Last Revelation and first Tomb Raider were the best!
@Kminatz yeah but tomb raiders were made sooo much earlier
Tomb raider took my video game virginity. i am....Forever Lara's 💋
🤨
🤨
Is Uncharted really that much about exploring and solving puzzels? I never bought it because I thought it was more of a shooter then anything els but if it's a lot like Lara Craft like everyone say and great story to boot then maybe I should look into it.
No slowdown on the PC version. Very smooth, and impressive.
They said the real Lara ended after this and she was replaced by a clone last 2013. Ducking illuminatis. 🙄
I also hope for improvements in Tomb Raider 9, but the true is that there are really few informations about the new game.
lol I meant 2013. M is good. Means more immersive gameplay (where it's okay to scare the crap out of the player)
Other than the technical issues, I found TR: Underworld to be a great adventure.
@Xblade1X Not sure if you can do this on psp but I know you can on ps3. If you can make a different account or something and say you're from Canada or America than you will be able to access those stores, which obviously will have different games.
i bet ign wasnt mad at the camera positioning at the end of the review
@virtuafighterman yeah it is mate so is the limited edition version
I recently bought this game. It was this or Halo 3, dont worry Im getting that next time, I went there intending to get Underworld and Halo 3 was a great price but this was $2 cheaper
yea it's worth it but the game is pretty short so choose for yourself if you want a good looking game or a long adventure game
