That part is so sad cuz I was hoping she would get to see her mother again but instead they chose to give us this ending. And her and Amanda are still shaky even after this. I guess they wanted to show us that this is just how life works.
And I grew up on Core games, so let's say I'm much less enthusiastic about first Crystal run with the series. But if that somewhat helps you, the 2nd (ongoing) reboot is so damn bad from my perspective, even Legend now holds up as a decent Tomb Raider with nice puzzles and secrets
remainingembers It's funny, really. When Legend came out, it was in the same time a great game (finally functional controls!) and somewhat a disappointment (5 hours to beat it is no fun at all). It was really too short and a bit too simple for TR, but most people literally treated it like a demo - "We are the new company, here, enjoy our preview of what we are capable of". And as a demo of what Crystal is/was capable it was really, really good game. Shame the 2nd reboot spit on everything that the series was about with gleeful smile, replacing it with soulless, generic shooter.
Matthew Harris Well, I have nothing against shooters, I still consider Max Payne 2 one of the best games ever made. Thing is - when I'm playing Tomb Raider, I want to raid some tombs and search for hidden things, not shoot 500th Generic Bland Human Attacker within 2 hours of gameplay. Seriously, I've lost track about killed enemies in TR'13 somewhere after 300 kills. Which means I shoot more human enemies in single game than in all Core or Crystal games combined. And probably more than in all previous Tomb Raiders combined, but I'm not sure about that.
@@Myrth1 Well... A lot of people consider Legend and Anniversary better. One for the story, settings and characters, the other for its classic Tomb Raider experience. Underworld was a disappointment for the age, throwing all the narrative promesses of Legend throught the window. So I kind of understand why poeple aren't talking about it that much. But after the reboot… It shines.
@@miaellenjaen3680 Which is why I questioned the notion of nobody talking about it. Thanks to the reboot, it came back and came back strong, where people suddenly considering it the peak of Crystal Dynamics in terms of being both "classic" Tomb Raider and a thing on its own.
@@Myrth1 I totally agree. Underworld remains faithful to the original soul of Tomb Raider and is really appreciated today because of that. It effectively becomes more strong as you say. ^^
I don't agree. She isn't literally the classic Lara , but only reminds the Lara from Last Revelation , Chronicles and AOD , which are only 3 versions of classic Lara over 9 versions. The Lara of the very first trilogy was not like the Doppelganger at all and closer to Underworld's Lara. It's a little reductive to radicalize Lara Croft to the super sassyqueen attitude of the 3 last games of CoreDesign over the entire franchise. ^^
9:18 this makes me cry. for those who don't realize this is actually the last time we see Lara from this universe so it kind of feels like we're saying goodbye to her as well
@J. B. I know! In many ways, this feels like the Angel of Darkness ending all over again. As Lara walks away into complete darkness, we, the audience, know for sure that her story will never be resolved. At least Underworld gave this Lara some kind of closure, even though I recall Underworld felt somewhat underwhelming to me back in the day, especially after Legend's cliffhanger ending which gave me the impression this game would be larger than life. And I agree wholeheartedly in terms of the reboot. The majority of the Tomb Raider fanbase thought the reboot would add more to Lara's character, but what it actually did is subtract. It's an entirely different game.
@J. B. Nice to have the opportunity to see how your outlook has changed then, thanks for sharing your experience! I have a sort of love/hate relationship with the reboot trilogy -- I like the games separately from the other Tomb Raider games for what they are. Visually stunning & thrilling experiences with cinematic elements. However, what makes me dislike them is zero replayability. I've played through Legend and Anniversary so many times I memorized every single part, but I just can't be bothered to do the same with the new games. And I really do hope they scrap the whole family drama and move on, but sadly, they keep going back to it. It's as if they think that everything Lara does has to be fueled by something stemming from her family history because otherwise she'd have no motivation to risk her life so many times... which I find stupid. The original Lara (Core Design era) pursued her adventures because of her love of archeology and (possibly) addiction to adrenaline. We've also received a backstory for how that came to be -- first in the TR1 manual in which we learned Lara managed to survive all on her own after her plane crashed in the Himalayas. Then, Last Revelation featured teenage Lara as she was mentored by Von Croy. Imo, Crystal Dynamics should've either used the first origin story (Himalayas) or the second (Von Croy) since all we knew of her family was that they were noblemen and possibly disowned Lara. This instantly made me relate to Lara back in the day -- she was a maverick, a rebel, the black sheep in her family and yet she's made quite a living out of her weird hobby. So much more interesting than the same old tired family drama route Crystal Dynamics have decided to recycle once more for the reboot trilogy. Anyway, I apologize for the essay! I hope you're right and we will see that confident fierce Lara again, and I hope she leaves her family behind for good.
@@Chazza_1201 ikr i dont know what it is but something is just so appealing to Legend Lara with her attitude, bantering with the boys (i really miss Zip) completed with her awesome Character model that is easily my favourite ^^ Such a shame well likely never see her again
10:23 You can almost see the pain in Lara's face as she walks away from Amanda, because I guess she still possibly cares for Amanda due to their previous friendship, but at the same time she hates her for what she's done and turned into!
"Would killing me make us even?" *sheaths Excalibur slowly knowing Amanda knew exactly what happned last time she tried to attack Lara with that sword*
I don't think so. Remember when Lara's mom pulled out the sword, it disappeared too. I think it was the sword her mom pulled out in Nepal. That's also why when Lara and Amanda pulled it out, they returned to Nepal's gate. In fact, Lara should have two swords now.
Elri Botha In fact, we know that Lara donated the sword from the Legend to the British Museum, but it is not mentioned what she did with this one. If she kept it to herself, she still has one sword.
"Looks like we're gonna die here... just like your mother." *priceless reaction from Lara* "Maybe... You'll go to hell!" Can't believe I laughed so hard in a tomb raider game
I love the anger in the doppelganger's face when Natla tells it to kill itself. She may not have free will but doesn't want to die and still wanted a life of her own
if only they continued the story before rebooting it :/ the legend anniversary underworld trilogy has the best most epic story they should have continued it :/ damn it square enix
Lara had a small request for doppie, she DEFINITELY wanted that leather outfit, was the makeover lara needed, made her look infinitely more badass especially with that tankini between the waistcoat and pants, the skin definately contrasts the black leather really well at the hips and the arms
I loved the story of TR: Underworld, loved the graphics (still do). That was probably my favourite Tomb Raider of the newer ones. I wish they had continued the story and her look, the new Lara looks so naive and too cute, I miss the badass Lara :(
+CorruptedDivinity I agree, the story was fucking solid and I wish they kept old characters like Amanda, Zip or Winston. They at least had some personality, unlike Reyes and other shitty characters.
The story was waaaay too dramatic to take it serious, especially for a Core veteran (seriously, what's with those mommy issues and now daddy issues under Crystal?!), but I really liked level design for Thailand and Mexico. Felt exactly like a modern TR should feel. Now the closest thing I have to good and newly made TR is the TR: DOX project, that will take ages to finish or will never finish at all.
“Either way, we’re neither of us our own masters” the way she turned her head was like “I’m not completely mindless and I’m basically you so feel free to have me do whatever you please” she seemed happy that Lara got control of her cuz she’s basically her too. Judging by her face she didn’t like working for Natla at all. This is one of the best tomb raider games ever
James Salvatore agreed.... first they took their brad, which was iconic too...and now the since this new trilogy took her dual guns without dual guns and a braid, she is not lara croft... i dont care if the company is the same or if they put tomb raider in the name of the game....for me this new trilogy is just a uncharted girl, and not lara croft..... this new "lara croft" is unsexy, non bad ass and too emotional....it looks like a teenager archeologist who knows how to kill and use guns...thats all.... the real lara croft was the exact opposite as you can see in this video..... and not only that, this new lara croft doesnt have any curves, only big boobs.....they said they wanna turned more realistic physically speaking.... realistic??so a woman with curves doesnt now how to fight men and monsters,is that it?ridiculous, non accurate and absurd.... and putting big boobs in this new lara, isnt sexist??besides the fact that this new lara doesnt make acrobatic moves, and when i say this is NONE. They totally killed the tomb raider/lara croft vibe with this new trilogy..... Im seeing very well what they re trying to do with last tomb raider, shadow of tomb raider... Putting lara in incan and mayan tombs (mexico and peru),so if thay could see they could please and attract the old fans and bring back the vibe of the old lara.... But forgeret it.....i already saw the entire game and defenitely didnt bringed me the true vibe of tomb raider.....plus it is short compared to others, didnt have many fights, only 1 boss fight, and not much complexity.....still feels like an uncharted game but with a girl....and even uncharted i already made that with their las game..... So for me this game is already a flop....they didnt catch the true and old fans of tomb raider attention or vibe... This new trilogy killed once and for all tomb raider aka lara croft.....tomb raider is not only tombs, but also her body, her sex appeal, her sexiness, her bad ass attitude, that fierce look that she had,and also of course, her dual guns (and braid too).... RIP Lara Croft 1995 - 2008
@@citalcarvel1229 Wow, I feel myself represented here. I was kind of fine( not that fine, but at least the graphics and the difficulty were good/enough) with the part from 2013, but the flaws were you could NOT have two pistols until shooting Mathias off the edge (I wish they would've taken those pistols into Rise of the Downfall) , neither change your outfit (It would've been funny to take the clothes of your enemies, not a big deal, but it would've given us at least something to customize, I'll just mention the undestroyable top that looks beyond saving) nor was there anything difficult in the game than to maybe push a button at the right time and maybe shoot a big ancient warrior in the back that had "WEAK SPOT" written all over it. I mean seriously, we are talking about Tomb Raider, the series used to be really, really cool, difficult, atmospheric, dark, a bit funny (R.I.P Zip, we haven't seen you for a decade :( ), full of riddles that made your brain start and enemies that made no excuses ( Yeah sure, the enemies with ARs in the 2013 one on hard were pretty good, but it just got boring when you A already had too much experience in First/Third Person Shooters and B used the cover that was way too much all over the place)... But I'll be honest, back in the day, when you selected hard, you were in for one big fucking nightmare of a playthrough and not another 08/15 shooter game. I mean look at all the good stuff we miss now, they took the hook you could climb and swing with, they took the difficulty and the health system, they took the enemies that kicked your ass regardless of the area you encountered them, they took the riddles we all loved, they also took our collectibles ( I know they are still there, but it just ain't the same as back then.), they also took our classic acrobatic moves, they took the fun the gameplay had, they took Zip (definitely my favourite character that can't be controlled), they took our dual pistols (R.I.P RGB Mach 5, we will never forget the bang-sound), and they took everything the series and name stands for and turned it into one of them games that got nothing that makes them different from all the others.
in RTR and STR Lara's more believable of a character if you set aside that she mastered so many skills by her age of little over 20 that she doesn't even need her iconic twin pistols to get along anymore. She can literally use anything from picking random glass bottles and turn them into molotovs to craft her own bow, size a freaking AK-47 from the hands of an enemy and... employing a scary level of skill in stealth combat. Though I must admit that I miss her contacting Zip through her wireless mic instead of crying out loud for Jhonah.
After playing Rise of the Tomb Raider, I do miss the old Lara. She was so free and pure from cliche gaming trends. I would've resented the reboot and hoped for a well written sequel if only fucking Crystal Dynamics gave us PS3 owners the story DLC we missed out on.
ARTSONICFAN990 hummm nopes not really. she will ignore all commands^^ so basically she will do, whatever she wants. maybe she will reappear someday in future as a new villain. but a game with 2 laras would be hella fine to solve even more complicated riddles
Grey Delisle is the actress who voiced all three of those characters. She's mostly known for voicing Catwoman, Azula, Natla, Vicky, Daphne, Mileena etc etc
No, Grey did not voice Shego. That was Nicole Sullivan. But if you hear a classic purring deep voice coming from a Femme Fatale or villianess? Probs Grey.
In my opinion, this is an appropriate ending for Amanda. Say what you will about natla, Amanda was cold hearted and unforgiving. After blaming Lara for years saying that Lara left her for dead, Lara actually leaves her to die for real. Such a satisfying death. I wish this ending wasn't just in the ps2 version.
Its two sided ways ... if it was not amanda , lara wouldve have died long back by the hands of her doppleganger .... but also at the end amanda tried to kill lara ... so there she went wrong again ...
@@ColonelCarnage And also big rock? Just mere seconds ago we've seen that the amulet is recharging, maybe even ready to fire. Why bother with a dumb rock?
I always wondered what happened right after the ending cinematic when Lara and Amanda part ways, because this is clearly the Nepal site from Tomb Raider Legend. Last Lara went there, the place was falling apart, leaving the room with the ring and sword impossible to access ... and impossible to leave (remember that gigantic bottomless room right before that ? All the platforms the Lara used during Legend to go in and out of the place have been destroyed ... so ... how did they get out of the Temple ? I guess Lara used her usual climbing talents ... but I doubt Amanda could do the same.
+Tywin Lannister Amanda used the power of the amulet to summon the creature and get her out of there. If you recall closely, you'll know that after the amulet obeys Amandas commands she is able to summon the creature that was chasing them both in Legend, before the tragedy. So thanks to the amulet Amanda can save herself at any time, as long as her amulet has power left, and it recharges in time, as seen in Underworld, when she said that her amulet is 'out of juice', but after they went through the portal her amulet gained power back. Lara always finds a way, also she has Excalibur again, whether she is going to use the sword to open a new entrance, or use her climbing skills, Lara will always make it out.
15:40-Now THAT is the Lara I remember! "Miss Natla, you know nothing would please me more, but I and Lara have an agreement. Anyway, busy girl, got to go."
I think it's a reference to "classic" Lara. The original trilogy and AOD were the DARKEST incantation of Lara. Lara back then was cold sadistic and ruthless.
@@Aceofwolves Is interesting the fact that "New Lara" has an almost equals kill count as "Original Lara", but at the same time she appear more kind and human than her.
Alejandro Julián not really, but Crystal Dynamics could always do more with this universe

@@williamr.c.4168 Actually yes, the storyline about her mother finished, there was no reason to follow the story without the risk of ruining it (in fact, DLC are unnecessary).
i really like her voice actress here. she has the attitude. the new one souns like she's getting some in the ass. 😑 and did the doppelganger just touched the mjolnir and threw it off?. how can she even touch it?
Lara missed a trick not going for the leather theme, she probably copied the look after this game, too badass to waste Doppie is hella flexible too, be most guys worst nightmare in hand to hand combat, she'd humilate them and not in a good way
Today is 2/3/14 & I'm just seeing his video & WOW am I amazed! When I played TR Underworld I played on PC. Never got see the Beneath the Ashes stuff until now and WOW! I'm shocked & I going crazy over the fact that to me it's an unfinished ending!
Tomb Raider:Underworld, despite being 10 years since 2008, may be "outdated and unrecognize" now. But its a classic I and other TR fans of the Legend TR series games will never forget. Reason is that it stays true to the original TR games. That's why this game is one of my favorite TR games ever!.
Im so diaspointed i mean why had lara went through all that TROUBLE i mean when i bought the game I thought she'd find her mother but...and even alister had to die!!!!!!!!!!!!
The story of Underworld is a huge spit on Legend's face. Autsin Grosmann who was the major writer of it, was absent for Underworld. We never had the end version of his story.
that s because the it was going to be a different story first about nordic mythology and an artifact called odin's eye but then they decided to wrap it up with the previous games. That s why I think you felt that way and thats the reason I didn t like the story. Merging the Avalon and excalibur myths with Nordic myths and making excalibur just a port key and avalon was actually an underwater cave full of poison was very sloppy in my opinion but thats just me. Legend was my favorite so it bummed me to see how things turned very dark and her mother turned into a thrall. Wished they'd go celtic for the story.
After playing Rise of the Tomb Raider, I've noticed several similarities between that game and this one. SPOILERS: Amanda strikes me as the Ana in this trilogy. Obviously Ana and Amanda are two completely different people with different back stories, but the similarities still exist. For starters, they are both people whom Lara trusted at one point, but then turned away from that trust for their own ends. Amanda resented Lara after the mess in Bolivia, and Ana betrayed Lara with her involvment in Trinity. Also, their names and appearances are strikingly similar, and they both die while fleeing from a frozen tundra. So far we've got Zip (Jonah) and Amanda (Ana). I wonder who the Natla of this trilogy will be. Although, now that I think about it, Ana could very well be Natla as well. Ana was curious about Richard Croft's research into immortality and used him for her own selfish means, and then, when his usefulness came to an end, she killed him. Sounds an awful lot like what Natla did to Richard. I guess Ana is sort of an amalgamation of Natla and Amanda. I can't wait for whatever the next Tomb Raider game brings!
I don't think Ana did kill Richard Croft, remember towards the end of Rise... Ana said to Lara, "Trinity ordered Richard Croft to be killed (that was Ana's Job) but she could not bring herself to do it. Ana had no reason to lie about the death of Lara's father, Ana was dying anyway and she was just about to tell Lara who did kill her father, unfortunately, Ana got shot by a sniper before she had a chance to.
the stone dais in Bolivia & that in Nepal, communicate with each other (time travel), but the fact that the one in Avalon send you back to Nepal doesn't really makes sense...a "logical explanation" would exist if there was a network with equally powered stones dais that can work the same way...that means Lara could have another last chance to save Amelia using the stone in Avalon & this would be the perfect ending...the whole "Amelia turned into a thrall" scenario is just a big DISSAPOINTMENT!!!
It has probably something to do with the key - Excalibur. The one from Nepal disappeared after Amelia pulled it out of the stone (in the past) and it seems to be the same sword Lara and Amanda find in Helheim, Lara even said that "(her) mother tried to use it (to return), but didn't know how", so Amelia took the Excalibur from Nepal, that she found beside herself after the portal landed them (her and the sword) there and put it into the stone. And since it's the one from Nepal, it probably connected to it's home location. That's also, why Lara speculated, that all the portals lead to this place, but if you're already here ...? And why it connected from Bolivia to the past in Nepal? Well probably was a glitch, since the Excalibur Lara collected and put together during her Legend adventure wasn't from Bolivia, not even from Nepal (that one landed in Helheim), but from the grave of king Arthur. According to the Arthurian legend, he pulled it himself from a stone (standing in the center of a stone circle on the ground surrounded by strange glowing monoliths, well that's not part of the legend in our world, but it seems to be in Tomb Raider), but it's not specified from which one, most probably from one somewhere in England. There were too many portals around the world, not just two (Bolivia and Nepal).
@@Croftice1 It could very well be that the "Excalibur" Lara reforged with the Galali Key was amalgamation of two different swords: King Arthur's bit from the tomb (England), Ruthland's bit (either from Peru or Bolivia), Takamoto's bit (allegedly from England) and one bit from Kazahstan (also likely from England, considering it's linked to project Carbonek and the shield in the labs).
I don’t like the alternate ending where she killed Amanda, glad they kept it unofficial. The fact that Amanda had second thoughts about pulling Lara through the portal and then did it was the right ending.
Always made me laugh that Natla created the doppelganger to destroy Lara even tho she can't stand to see her face and all this talk she goes on about irony, but in the very end it's Lara's and The Dopple's cold and calculative stare that see her off to her death. Love the smile it shows she is enjoying every moment You can't put a price on this I loved playing this as a kid still a tomb raider fan but I love the classic Lara wish they would remake them
Natla at first wanted Lara to rule by her side, since, according to Atlantean tradition, it takes three to rule (guess she was going to make a Doppelganger of Amanda later). But having her plans ruined two times were too much for her to forgive Lara like that.
Having finished half of the "Legend" trilogy, I've got now theories on things that confused me for years: -I think Merlin and the xaman of the queen buried in Paraíso might actually be the same person. I think they're Tihocan (the Atlantean king whose body is missing from his tomb in Greece), who would be trying to rebuild the world into something similar to what Atlantis used to be by raising kings and queens through out the world; -I think Basilisks like the one Lara confronts in Arthur's tomb used to be the dominant race on Earth. Because of the healing properties of their venom, the potentially dying race of Atlanteans came to Earth in order to use them, but then Pangea was broken, leading to the extinction of the majority of the serpents. Fortunately, as the Norse myth indicates for Jomungandr, their poison sacks were broken, releasing the venom into...everywhere. Leading the Atlanteans to build that device Natla wanted to use in "Underworld" in order to control the venom's flow; -To know that some of those Thralls in Avalon/Hellheim used to be kings, queens, generals (Lara comments Arthur's tomb is mostly empty and his dias was broken, meaning they rose from the dead thanks to the poison and used the portal)... It's so sad to see what they've been reduced to and how Natla only sees them as tools to be used for her seventh age (potentially planning to turn them into something similar to the Doppelganger). She's completely wicked, sadistic and cruel. The world needs no people like her.
I have to wonder what happened to the Doppelganger - since her last command from Natla was voided, would she have stayed there after Natla drowned in the eitr? Or would she have found her way out?
I mean Lara tells her that she is slave to no one and didn't help Natla so she must escaped after her death. To be honest we never learnt what that blue liquid could do to her.
How come I got an ending that explained legend's beginning so well? How come Lara's doppelganger sounds likeLara from the beginning games? I have so many questions.
I feel like things were left unfinished between Lara and Amanda. In the end here we finally see Amanda give up her lust for revenge on Lara and walk away, deciding that no, killing Lara would not take away the bitterness and darkness Amanda holds. Amanda hasn’t forgiven Lara but she wasn’t so blinded that she would let the whole world burn for her revenge (looking at you, Kratos) and she saved Lara when Lara trusted her with the portal, and Amanda showed some genuine concern when she said “What about you?” To Lara and the fact that Amanda did choose to grab Lara’s hand says a lot about the fact that there was room in Amanda to make amends. Whether the symbiotic relationship that Amanda developed with the Wraith stone had some underlying setbacks like corrupting her soul in some way or driving her crazy with revenge lust would have been interesting to explore. There was a lot that could have been worked off here. Fanfic maybe?
Considering how the Stone seems to lose its blackness as "Underworld" progressed, I think it's possible it fueled her worst parts. Also, yes, I did like how it was done. She did not forgive Lara, but she understood both got what they wanted and needed. And that was only possible because they worked together. Forgiveness is a slow proccess, but important.
Why is TR probably the only game to have fans who just cannot accept the fact that times are changed and reboots were neccesary? It happens with a bunch of other great franchises like Prince Of Persia, Devil May Cry etc etc I'm a huge fan of TR, TR Chronicles was the FIRST GAME EVER that I played and I emediately fell in love but as I said times are changeing. When TR Legend came up it was (and it still is in its way) an amazing game, very high ratings in general. Anniversary was than a great way to insert some memorable elements into the reboot and it was also fantastic. And how they used the Natla storyline from first TR game into this Trilogy was for me very very satisfying, connecting Excalibur and Norse Mythology and giving the story an amazing wrap-up like this. I really don't understand what the hell are fans bitching about cuzz I played every single TR so far and I genuinly love all of them. In this trilogy (so badly recieved among fans) u got amazing gameplay, beyond beautifull graphics for their time (tr legend was the first game to introduce next-gen graphycs, it was such a big achievement at the time) and Underworld graphics were beyond incredible. U also got an amazing storyline AND for those of you bashing on the games being too easy hmm go back to Anniversary and if that isnt old TR-painfully hard puzzles than u r lying and u didn't play previous games or ur just nuts. And about 2013 TR - if anyone has anything bad to say about it well that leaves me speechles, cuz we could've gotten a crappy average game to dislike but instead it is one of the best games of the whole PS console generation plus for ps4 owners there is a mindblowing, crazy beautiful version of it... So all of u whining about TR go have ur brains checked or smth cuz I can't stand to read ur sorry comments under every TR video on YT anymore...
Neccesary for what? To rake profit from new generation of gamers without them playing older games to which you don't have publishing rights? Reboots are equal with lack of creativity, as it's considerably easier to start from the scratch than continue. Crystal Dynamics pulled TWO reboots, first to start easier and then second, because they run out of ideas for further games - this can happen when you insist on doing strictly connected games and don't have any plans what to do after your story arch is over. Given how Core was disposed after executive medding, I have no mercy for Crystal Dynamics and how easy all their failures are forgotten.
Core Design was leading the franchise NOWHERE in terms of critical reception, gameplay mechanics etc and what: u'd like the story to just go on and on till Lara is 150 or dead in her grave riding tombs in her afterlife? The reboot was very much needed, in TRL we got amazing graphics, gameplay and a good story (the only thing I missed are puzzles..) so noone can call that a crappy reboot, later in Anniversary and Underworld we had much more tombs and puzzles etc. And about profit well if u stop to think about it before writing it down - games COST to make, they don't fall from the sky u know...
Nowhere? Maybe you missed the TR4 and AoD as a way of story-telling and (sadly) abandoned story-arch from them? Or maybe you missed the fact that Core-made TRs were treated as separate stories up to TR4. Or maybe that the mechanics were constantly progressing from part to part? Or the graphics that changed by 3rd, 4th and AoD? So yeah, Core was leading no-where the game they created from the scratch, of course, better to give it to ham-fisted Americans so they can "improve" it and make it as bland as any other game on the market. No-one can call it crappy reboot? Tell that to all those people who loath Legend and Crystal-made TRs Oh noes, the game cost to create! How come! Then how the fuck Core was able to churm them at reasonable costs with 40 people at their peak (and London Symphonic Orchiestra, but that wasn't exactly their team), while Crystal started with over 100 guys to made 4 hours long Legend, having more concept artist than first three Core TRs have people involved together. And it only bloated from there. Oh, and how marvelous it was to wait for Core attempt for comeback with their Anniversary, sack them AGAIN and put it on Crystal, so they could get some acclaim by old and angry fandom. It didn't work quite well. So yeah, I should really shut up, because we all know how much the series own greedy execs from Eidos and those hamburger geniouses from Crystal. All hail hy... Crystal Dynamics, saviours of the franchise and whole universe! And all praise the wise reboots, because who care to continue the story, if you can always be in the middle of it. That's why I don't read superhero comics - they all have start, some mid, more mid, padding in the mid, reboot, mid, even more mid, what's looking like conclusion but is still mid, reboot and it keeps on going. Reboot is not an answer. It's a failure. Always. Even more so if it's made after few years or decades, because it clearly aims for fans nostalgia and their bucks. At least Eidos was finally caught by karma and now they are part of SquareEnix megacrap. Which isn't any better for Tomb Raider, but at least the execs were sacked and replaced. Ironic justice at it's finest.
u mad? :D Tomb Raider 2013 destroyed everything what made Tomb Raider. The Legend reboot... ok, that was amazing but the 2013 reboot? I don´t think so. There aren´t even Tombs in Tomb Raider 2013. Maybe it would be better if they had called it Call of Lara, Modern Raider, because it´s just a poor third person shooter :)
@Jetion108 I didn't even buy that new game, the woman from 2013 Tomb Raider is not my Lara. Totally different person, nothing common with a British countess. But the TRUE Lara Croft still lives in my heart.
It's interesting how terribly inconsistent the Nepal dias room is in the series. When young Lara finds the room, there's a frozen body next to the dias, but the body disappears when you revisit the place in the Nepal level but then the skeleton reappears in the Underworld ending. When Amelia Croft pulls out the sword, the stone ring collapses around her, but in the Underworld ending the ring is whole again but folds back to the floor when the teleportation is complete. Similarly the torn out pages from young Lara's sketchbook are seen in the flashback, not in the actual level, but Lara finds them during the Underworld cut-scene. I kinda wish some modders went to work and fixed these inconsistencies.
Bani jasso In a sense, it might feel the same, plays differently but its unrelated. Lara Croft games are basically more Lara adventures in an topside/isometric view style. Lara's old voice actress from Underworld reprises her roles for these spin off games and her model is identical too, if that makes sense.
Guardian of Light and Temple of Osiris, 2 isometric puzzle/platformers released as downloadable titles. There's also a couple books coming out 'Lara Croft and the Frozen Omen' and 'Lara Croft and the Blade of Gwynnever'. All of these focus on the Lara from the legend games.
Back then I bought a full price title for a crippled game that required two paid DLCs to get the full game/story. I swore never to buy a title at release again.
Hah, looks like "Shadow Lara" wasn't fond of killing her Friend Alistair at Natla's command. It was a shame we didn't get to see what happened to Shadow Lara... wonder if they hooked up and pretended to be sisters? They share the same memories, personality and drives now... they'd make one hell of a tombraiding pair. Plus, frankly, Lara's the only one that "lara" would be interested in as she's the only one who can keep up with her. LOL.

That part is so sad cuz I was hoping she would get to see her mother again but instead they chose to give us this ending. And her and Amanda are still shaky even after this. I guess they wanted to show us that this is just how life works.
"I'm you, with the flaws removed."
Lara responds with: "Free will is a flaw?"
Obviously, it's confirmed that Lara Croft is infact FLAWLESSSS! 😏👑
She's a virtual character. Of course she's flawless lol

Some people just cant take a joke lol
Until Abomination, uh - I mean Tomb Raider 2013, came out.
The only way in which she's flawless is if the player controlling her does flawless button presses.
God this was an epic trilogy. I love the reboot but I grew up with THIS trilogy.
+Jeremiah Peery took the words right out my mouth.
And I grew up on Core games, so let's say I'm much less enthusiastic about first Crystal run with the series. But if that somewhat helps you, the 2nd (ongoing) reboot is so damn bad from my perspective, even Legend now holds up as a decent Tomb Raider with nice puzzles and secrets
i agree with you too! i loved legend when i was younger and a lot more than the current reboots.
remainingembers
It's funny, really.
Matthew Harris
Well, I have nothing against shooters, I still consider Max Payne 2 one of the best games ever made.
And probably more than in all previous Tomb Raiders combined, but I'm not sure about that.
nobody really talks about Underworld nowadays it feels kinda forgotten, i really like the game it wraps up the trilogy nicely
Nobody? Come on!

Wow. The Doppleganger literally is classic Lara.
Has her snarky attitude, braided ponytail and everything.
For a time being, a joke was circling fandom about AoD Lara being in fact Dopplehoe.
And tank top that show her hips!
@@miaellenjaen3680 it's not that deep

9:18 this makes me cry. for those who don't realize this is actually the last time we see Lara from this universe so it kind of feels like we're saying goodbye to her as well
You even hear the theme tune of the original Lara Croft 😢
J. B. Completely agree with that.. but I prefer the legend trilogy more with the attitude and such.
@@Chazza_1201 ikr i dont know what it is but something is just so appealing to Legend Lara with her attitude, bantering with the boys (i really miss Zip) completed with her awesome Character model that is easily my favourite ^^ Such a shame well likely never see her again

cooperclan13 This is the SAME excalibur from Legend? how?
I don't think so. Remember when Lara's mom pulled out the sword, it disappeared too. I think it was the sword her mom pulled out in Nepal. That's also why when Lara and Amanda pulled it out, they returned to Nepal's gate. In fact, Lara should have two swords now.
Elri Botha In fact, we know that Lara donated the sword from the Legend to the British Museum, but it is not mentioned what she did with this one. If she kept it to herself, she still has one sword.

CorruptedDivinity she’s not supposed to be the Lara you know and love because it’s an origin story and she hasn’t become that Lara yet.
Think of it this way...at least Lara has a sister/family!
My problem with the tomb raider reboot is that we in are in the second game and yet they still haven't given us laras dual wield handguns
Dylan Skinner who knows they might put it in shadow
Ugh...
James Salvatore
agreed....
first they took their brad, which was iconic too...and now the since this new trilogy took her dual guns
without dual guns and a braid, she is not lara croft...
i dont care if the company is the same or if they put tomb raider in the name of the game....for me this new trilogy is just a uncharted girl, and not lara croft.....
this new "lara croft" is unsexy, non bad ass and too emotional....it looks like a teenager archeologist who knows how to kill and use guns...thats all....
the real lara croft was the exact opposite as you can see in this video.....
and not only that, this new lara croft doesnt have any curves, only big boobs.....they said they wanna turned more realistic physically speaking....
realistic??so a woman with curves doesnt now how to fight men and monsters,is that it?ridiculous, non accurate and absurd....
and putting big boobs in this new lara, isnt sexist??besides the fact that this new lara doesnt make acrobatic moves, and when i say this is NONE.
RIP Lara Croft

I think it’d dumb because it immediately contradicts the growth she had as a character
Its two sided ways ... if it was not amanda , lara wouldve have died long back by the hands of her doppleganger .... but also at the end amanda tried to kill lara ... so there she went wrong again ...
It always reminds me of that line in Jak X:

I always wondered what happened right after the ending cinematic when Lara and Amanda part ways, because this is clearly the Nepal site from Tomb Raider Legend.
Last Lara went there, the place was falling apart, leaving the room with the ring and sword impossible to access ... and impossible to leave (remember that gigantic bottomless room right before that ? All the platforms the Lara used during Legend to go in and out of the place have been destroyed ... so ... how did they get out of the Temple ? I guess Lara used her usual climbing talents ... but I doubt Amanda could do the same.
+Tywin Lannister Amanda probably still has her contacts, she might've called a team to rescue her.
yeah I guest the creator or who ever was in charge was so super lazy. (sad face)
+Tywin Lannister It's not canon. It's the deleted ending.
+Tywin Lannister Lara Croft is more of a bounty\treasure hunter then a archaeologist

Same here.
Very good edit everything is perfectly corresponding to the time schedule!
"Would killing me make us even?.." - Amanda must've forgot that she could be dead already.
It's so nice to see Natla get the ending she deserves. I wonder what the doppelganger did with the rest of it's life
I can't get the though of Amanda running towards Lara with a large rock when she can use the wraith stone (especially when Lara has her guns)
YES!!! I thought that too!

I really love the Lara of Legend and Underworld they're so badass and perfect.
the stone dais in Bolivia & that in Nepal, communicate with each other (time travel), but the fact that the one in Avalon send you back to Nepal doesn't really makes sense...a "logical explanation" would exist if there was a network with equally powered stones dais that can work the same way...that means Lara could have another last chance to save Amelia using the stone in Avalon & this would be the perfect ending...the whole "Amelia turned into a thrall" scenario is just a big DISSAPOINTMENT!!!
0:21 Broke my heart.
Imagine how Lara felt.
I don’t like the alternate ending where she killed Amanda, glad they kept it unofficial. The fact that Amanda had second thoughts about pulling Lara through the portal and then did it was the right ending.
And props to keeley hawes, she feels more british than camilla luddington.
Having finished half of the "Legend" trilogy, I've got now theories on things that confused me for years:
-I think Merlin and the xaman of the queen buried in Paraíso might actually be the same person. I think they're Tihocan (the Atlantean king whose body is missing from his tomb in Greece), who would be trying to rebuild the world into something similar to what Atlantis used to be by raising kings and queens through out the world;
-I think Basilisks like the one Lara confronts in Arthur's tomb used to be the dominant race on Earth. Because of the healing properties of their venom, the potentially dying race of Atlanteans came to Earth in order to use them, but then Pangea was broken, leading to the extinction of the majority of the serpents. Fortunately, as the Norse myth indicates for Jomungandr, their poison sacks were broken, releasing the venom into...everywhere. Leading the Atlanteans to build that device Natla wanted to use in "Underworld" in order to control the venom's flow;
-To know that some of those Thralls in Avalon/Hellheim used to be kings, queens, generals (Lara comments Arthur's tomb is mostly empty and his dias was broken, meaning they rose from the dead thanks to the poison and used the portal)...
I think she found the hammer then found a way out and met up with Lara and gave it to her as a thank you for freeing her.
I mean Lara tells her that she is slave to no one and didn't help Natla so she must escaped after her death. To be honest we never learnt what that blue liquid could do to her.
1:47 the purpose was me to have all the memes. XD
Is this ending canon
Why is TR probably the only game to have fans who just cannot accept the fact that times are changed and reboots were neccesary? It happens with a bunch of other great franchises like Prince Of Persia, Devil May Cry etc etc
I'm a huge fan of TR, TR Chronicles was the FIRST GAME EVER that I played and I emediately fell in love but as I said times are changeing.
Tell that to all those people who loath Legend and Crystal-made TRs
Oh noes, the game cost to create!
2013 TR didn't seem like Tomb Raider, for a game itself it was amazing, but for a Tomb Raider game not so much...
Epic, I actually bought a xbox 360 for the 2 dlc's , Loved UW & Lara's Shadow, pity that those days are gone. sigh
Everyone's making me feel old, calling this the old trilogy, when I was around for the birth of TR. I love them all, but this story is my favourite
One thing that crystal did better than core was the characterisation of natla
They did a lot of things better than core
Well done with the editing I loved it, brings back so much memories
@Jetion108 I didn't even buy that new game, the woman from 2013 Tomb Raider is not my Lara. Totally different person, nothing common with a British countess. But the TRUE Lara Croft still lives in my heart.
Half the time in the new series it sounds like they're saying Laura.. So I'm like, its some lady named laura croft not our Lara
Sucks that this dlc is Xbox exclusive, I didn't know & bought the pc version wanting to play beneath the ashes :I
It's interesting how terribly inconsistent the Nepal dias room is in the series.
I wonder, what happen to Doppelganger's after Natla's death.
This will always be my best Lara
just finished replaying the trilogy after all these years and wanted to see how the xbox dlc changes the ending. great video!
This version of tomb Raider will be missed. It's not nostalgia I just thought the story was a lot better than the new version of tomb Raider.
They made Jill Valentine look like Lara Croft from Resident Evil Revelations same hair same swimsuit outfit
I don't have a 360 so thank you very much for showing me this.
My favourite Lara from Underworld.
They should remake this how awesome would that be I mean they remade the 1st tomb raider game why not my fav
Hopefully never, they would nerf the hell outta Lara if this was remade during these times
Does anyone know what happens after underworld< I really wanna know and I 'll doubt we'll find out as they have started the series over again?
TheAzRage Lara's Shadow is the only thing we have, the Lara Croft series might possibly serve as side sequels.
+TheAzRage i hope they will make natla and amanda take part in the new restarted story
+Jacob Qarooni (Jacob Mrox) what is side sequels? I'm no smarty.
All of these focus on the Lara from the legend games.

evil ass smirk......
LOL.
Underworld Lara is the sexiest Lara 😍
Wait. Are beneath the Ashes and Lara's Shadow some sort of DLC? I've never heard of it!
They're both dlc for the game on Xbox 360
Yeah but it's only on Xbox. If you have playstation (like me) you can't get it on psn.
Spiritx1992 I'm more with the PC Master Race. I think consoles are too quickly out of date. But thanks for the information
