My dehydrator is full of onions. Freeze dryer has zucchini, roaster is full of tallow, and canner is full of grapes. I'm tired! Tomorrow is sw potatoes, and more tallow! Tks for all you do
👏 excellent work
How do you make Tallow??
@@elle1014elle tallow is the fat from beef. What you do is melt down the fat at a low temp and strain it through cheese cloth after it is melted. I put it into jars and can it. It can be used as a cooking oil or to make soap or candles. Lard is done the same way, but it's from pigs.
Do you waterbath can the tallow? Shelf life?
@@lorriebehrens4554 yes I do. I have some a couple of years old. If it does go rancid, I use it for soap. The lye and the essential oils kill the bad smell and I can use it for laundry
Love how you organize your food
first time watching a video on this channel and I am sooo thankful for this video. So much I learned and am getting ready to stop procrastinating and pull out my mason jars and get a dehydrator. I appreciate you guys for helping us preppers. We have a family of 8 and grandbaby on the way and we have been doing things little by little. I do garden every year and I am looking forward to watching more of the videos on this channel and Misty of your homemade soap videos because I NEED and WANT to learn and teach my children about it. God bless you and your family and may He continue to bless you all abundantly and with safety.
💕💕
Misty, you are always an inspiration! Thank you!
I have had a dehydrator in my garage that I haven’t used in years. That’s changing this summer. Thanks again for another great video! ❤
Misty, you are a beautiful light to our LORD JESUS. I do not have a window. But I have herbs dehumidify herbs hanging in my pantry/laundry room. Just moved here. Pray it works!
You're doing a great job!
I love my dehydrators
I have a dehydrator but I don't have a dry freezer I will have to start saving up for one of these. I see that you work very hard to have different types of food or spices for your family. Love watching your channel very very educational. ❤️
Ordered the excalibur dehydrator on Amazon days for $176 today. Cant wait to get it I'm over flowing with zucchini and yellow sqaush.
Wow that's a great deal ! Always shop deals!
I have been using a clear Tupper and aluminum foil kind of sun oven outside to dry herbs. With this heat and sun doesn't take long at all. Otherwise hung up in bag been doing for years. I just dehydrated salmon turned out great. I'm still learning. Freeze dryer not in my future way above my pay grade. Thanks for another great video.
Great work!
That's a good idea! I had thought about buying one of those hanging netted thingies, but I suspect my cats would tear it up. My oven won't go below 200°. 😢 I've been keeping my eyes out for a used dehydrator.
I love my freeze dryer 😇🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Never thought of putting it in trunk of car. I usually put my herbs in the oven low low and works just fine
🇦🇺I dehydrated mashed potatoes and my greens for my smoothies. Kale, bok choy, celery and spinach.
Yay!
I saved up and got a pressure canner this year. I would love to get a freeze dryer but I would have to save up a really long time to be able to afford one. I have other debts I'm trying to pay down at this time.
Debts first!
You can do this! Keep up the great work! Baby steps !
True I had 2 strokes and now my husband has cancer. Ever dollar goes to his bills now. I'll never be able to afford either one. 😢
@@sunset462 prayers to you and your family
@@sunset462So sorry to hear this 😢🙏 Prayers for both of u
What a great video!! I've enjoyed your new channel so much!! Thank you 😀
I dry my herbs on racks in my garage because where I live is very, very hot during the Summer months. Now my garlic, chives and onions I dry outside on racks covered with cheese cloth. I also dry my herbs in the oven at 120 degrees if I run out during the Winter, I just keep an eye on them. But yes, I've also dried by hanging my herbs, but I'm just impatient knowing I have to wait 2-3 weeks for it to dry. If I dry outside or in my garage, I'll have herbs dried in 2-3 days depending on the heat. But if it's Winter and it's cold outside, I just pop them in the oven for 1 hour or so depending on the herb. I also dry jalapeños, bell peppers, sun dried tomatoes, citrus skins and freshly cut citrus thin slices that I like to drop in my teas for the Winter, I also dry my own fruits like peaches, apples, apricots, berries, figs and Pineapple etc. Just use your imagination.

👏
I so wish I could afford a freeze dryer
Y'all are one of my favorites. Have you spoken of your parents?
I love your channel I'm learning from you things I didn't know ❤
Thank you for all your videos. I would love a video on how you plan what you put in your emergency totes. For instance how do you meal plan a “no electricity” emergency tote. Like how do reverse engineer that, and know how to meal plan that so you have everything you need for your family. That just seems so amazing to me. You are so encouraging. Love watching your videos
Me too!
Hahaha Colby said the same thing on his channel today. Great knowledge :)
Chicken eggs were in freeze dryer yesterday, candy for the grands in there now…sometimes you just have to do something fun lol
❤️❤️
Subscribed to both channels. Love them both!
I seldom use my Excalibur since I got my Harvest Right. I L O V E to can. It’s an obsession but freeze drying is a close second. I recently did a full load of kale, & pumpkin purée ( for dog food). I just took out a load of cubed sweet potatoes that I took from my freezer, now I am running a load of raw beef liver that I use solely for my homemade dog food. Next in queue will be broccoli, zucchini (again), salmon (for dog food), onions. Last night, I made a pot of homemade soup tossing in scoops of freeze dried, carrots, peas, celery, onions into my canned broth, canned tomatoes, tomato powder, canned ground beef. No prep! I just poured and dumped! I love having my canned and FD foods in my long term pantry.
How do you get the smell of beef liver out!?!? I did some beef liver and the smell is STILL in it even after scrubbing with vinegar and lemongrass many times !! It's not as strong as it was but I can still smell it! I also ran several bread beaches hoping it would help absorb the smell !!! HELP ME!!! Please!
@@TheMacsLife0 I put it in frozen. Haven’t had an issue, thankfully. I have more odor with broccoli and kale.
Good information, Thanks
I just got a dehydrator, have to get a freezer dryer .Thank you for sharing.
and if anyone has listened long enough to your shows, they would be taking their lives into there own hands to step foot on your property thinking they could do anything..lol steps would be the last ones they take..ain fire!!! ML GBY& your family!!!
Always share what we can but we would have to draw the line somewhere ya know - plans in place here :)
@@TheMacsLife0 Well of course you don't show it all..and shouldn't either, just like no one needs to know what goes on in my bedroom either, if anything..lol we all have our limits and private things or should! trying to give as much info as you can is much appreciated and keeps people movtivated to do the right things for themselves so they won't have to go our doing the wrong things for the right reasons..do your own people!! ML ..
You are really something! Wow!!!😮 You are working hard and have great knowledge of preserving...I just bought 2 dehydrators because they were on special price much cheaper...I also dry herbs hanging here and there and everywhere 🤪👍
My plan is to cut veg in small pieces, dry and then they will be easy to use in soups and stuff. Hope they cook and be soft and tasty...At least I will give it a try because use the fridge is not the best way to go.... Greetings from Sweden🇸🇪
Great job
I am watching this one first then on over to The Mac's video 😊
We appreciate you!
I mentioned in one of your videos, worried about bad things happening to you but ppl having your back. Only said it put of worry for you, because you and your family are so wonderful!! Glad you have backup places, hopefully it never comes to that, but things are looking pretty scary for this country. I’m hoping to save for a freeze dryer but being a homesteader on a very low fixed income it seems like there’s always something coming up🙄I’m sure you get it😂. Love watching your videos!! God bless you and your family!!❤
Save up- even pennys count! Make an envelope and out any extra in there - sell what u don't use and buy second hand the thing u do!
I use my dehydrator a lot!! But, boy those freeze dryers are expensive!
We are subscribed to both your channels. I am learning so much. Thank you!
Thank you ..saving for mine…God bless ❤🙏🙏🙏🙏
I can't buy a freeze drier. But I am learning to pressure can. You help me build my confidence. Thank you.
Can't wait to release my next video!!! You got this!
Thanks misty for all of your time and effort and information and tips God bless you and your little family I was watching your video and colby at the same time today please put me in the drawing that you 2 are doing I subscribed to both channels thanks
Thank you for this helpful video, especially sharing the easy & inexpensive tips to preserving herbs! Thank you for being such a blessing! Oh I want to save up and get one... everyone asked what I wanted for my birthday but I can assure you no one was listening LOL
Lol
Thank you for sharing!
we just bought ours today! it will be here in two weeks!
Yay!! You guys are going to love it!
I'd love to have a freeze dryer. It would be so nice if yall would have one on your giveaways. I'm so grateful for the ones you have! Love all your informative videos! ♥
We did giveaway $$ code for a freeze drier :)
Thank you now I have to get one
Thank you 😇🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks misty
I have a freeze drier and thank you for sharing this I'm also subscribed to both videos
Hi yall
I would love to get a freeze dryer but just don't see that in my future being on a very tight budget I just saved and got a fermenting kit
Great step to make!
Love your show, I enjoy it a lot and I can only imagine how hard you work!
To do all of the things you do I need 5 of me 😂
Lol IKR 😂
Hey there. Finally slowed down to subscribe to your channel. Love everything about what you share on your channel. Very informative. Like seeing you actually doing the chores instead of staged filming. Your family values is so refreshing. Keep up the hard work!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to show us how you can and preserve. I appreciate you. God Bless you ❤❤
Hi 🤗
I love my dehydrator! Love how I can process the herbs and veggies from my small garden. Also deer jerky. But that freeze dryer looks like it would be great to have. Years ago I bought some freeze dried food from patriot. Have it stored away as part of my food supply. Thanks again for sharing ways we can get ourselves self sufficient during these times of not knowing if there will be food and if it’s real or lab made in our stores.😊
Amazing!
Thought I heard you say $1 freeze dryer at a yard-sale and about fell off my chair.
I did but I mean dehydrator
Nice. Use that freeze dryer till it breaks. Subbed to both channels.
I just purchased a Harvest Right yesterday...now I am even more fired up to get on the freeze dryer train. Great video!
Yay!!!! You are gonna love it!
Finally got my freeze dryer running again! Love using it for preserving
Yay!
Hi I am on both sites
I ordered a dehydrator 🙏🙏🙏
Great job!!!
Thank you ❤
We have loved our freeze dryer. Worth saving up for one of these.
Thanks for sharing your testimony!
I am subscribed to both channels. Love your show!
I wish I could afford a harvest right. I need to start saving my nickels and dimes...lol
Yes!!! Every penny counts!!!
Love my freeze dryer. Haven’t had it long so still experimenting
Is it not the coolest thing ever!?!
Great video! I need a freeze dryer!❤
God bless the Macs!
Thanks Misty....I'm loving this series of videos. Do you need 02 absorbers in the jars too or just in the bags?
Jars I use now
Only for Mylar bags I put away for emergency storage
I'm subscribed
Thank you! I just started the freeze dryer journey and I’m so happy to prepare my family for the future.
Yes!!!!
Can I store canned goods in a root cellar on shelves? Also, I just water glassed my first eggs last week. I hope it eorks. I had to watch your video while I was doing it. Can th I se be stored in the root cellar as well. I love your instructional videos. Thank you and Colby so much!
Yes!!! Anywhere cool and dark!
I am the same. I would rather have a freeze dryer than a hydrator. Saving up for one now . Love your shows
Great work!
Great video…thank you. 👍🙏🙏🙋🏻♀️
Think I'm finally ready to commit to the cost of a freeze dryer! What size would you recommend for a family of 4? Not sure if I should do a medium or a large. We will have a garden this year and I do get about 2 dozen eggs a day that could be freeze dried. The cost of the large is just so much more than the medium!
I started with a small - sold it and bought a large
I think a medium would make you guys very happy- if not- sell it and upgrade - it will pay for itself in time ;)
Look I need a dehydrator
I'm a proud subscriber
Thank u so much!
I just love you! I do have a question though. Does the freeze dryer do well with meals like chili or a stew? Them kind of meals?
I have left over spaghetti in mike now :)
I did have to add some Time to
Question how do you rehydrate your food and is it different between freeze drying and dehydrating?
No not rehydrating- depending on the food the water amount and time for rehydration may vary
I purchased a small round dehydrator but don't know how to use it. I want a freeze dryer, but it is out of my budget. I purchased a bluetti on a credit card, but I want to pay them off.
Yes ! Pay debt off first! Then start a savings envelope for future investments - prioritize what's more important to your family
Just wash dry herbs or fruits (in small peices) put on your trays and allow to dry until completely crispy
Then store in a cool dark place
Things you will eat first can be store in jars and items for long term in Mylar bags (they seal at the top so when opened - reuse!!) seal under the opened area!
Misty, 👋👋👋 can I store basil, garlic and olive oil together in a jar in a room and how long will it last?
Yes I would keep it in the oil for a couple week maybe 6-- then strain off the basil and garlic - the oil will keep for as long as any oil
If you have a really warm spot it will infuse the oil much better :)
Misty how do you know what all to use oxygen absorbers with n as far as each way n jar/versus bags???
Anything that goes up for long term storage gets an oxygen absorber
Does freeze dried foods or Dehydrated foods have to be stored in a cool warm. Can they be stored that the room is ultimately warm??? Thx
I suppose you could but I wouldn't recommend- the best place is cool and dry and dark
HOW LONG DO BLUEBERRIES TAKE TO FREEZE DRY???? AND ORANGES??? MINE ARE JUST STAYING STICKEY????
I haven't done oranges but it may help if u prick the berries with a knife or safety pin
Mine did take a while
They do have a kind of sugary type film but did dry finally
How hard would it be to set up in an apartment? I'm going to have to save for one.
As long as you have a counter space for one :)
Yes cool
The end product is not the same. Freeze dryer keeps its nutrients. The heat takes a lot that away
Agreed - it's still preserved food
Do you have AC in your house? It's too humid for me to just hang in the window to dry out herbs. In the winter I can do that, but not in the summer 😢
I do have ac! It's also humid here
It takes a while
@@TheMacsLife0 they become moldy before they dry all the way, when I have done the hanging method in the summer months. I was hoping you had a trick, I didn't know about. 😢
Can you freeze what ever product you have before using a dehydrator or does it still not work like a freeze dryer?
It still would not work the same
It draws moisture out while I'm a frozen state
The dehydrator isn't built with taht technology
@@TheMacsLife0 Thank you for responding.
Did it increase your electric bill?(the freeze dryer)
Not enough to notice and cause panic ! And it runs a lot !
@@TheMacsLife0 thank you so much for your response. That was the only thing that was holding me back from purchasing one. Thank you.
I tried freeze dry and watermelon and I never could get it dried and it was like 48 hours so I trashed it
O wow
I cut mine into small peices and they taste like cotton candy!!
@@TheMacsLife0 maybe I didn’t cut them thin enough I don’t know, but I was disappointed that I didn’t have big pieces, but must have
I want to buy some freeze dried foods... where do you recommend? I want Non GMO and organic
We have used Legacy
They are non gmo but I don't believe they have organic shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=342771&u=3199010&m=36800&urllink=&afftrack=
