    • @constancebeck2992
      @constancebeck2992 Год назад +1

      @@elle1014elle tallow is the fat from beef. What you do is melt down the fat at a low temp and strain it through cheese cloth after it is melted. I put it into jars and can it. It can be used as a cooking oil or to make soap or candles. Lard is done the same way, but it's from pigs.

I appreciate you guys for helping us preppers. We have a family of 8 and grandbaby on the way and we have been doing things little by little. I do garden every year and I am looking forward to watching more of the videos on this channel and Misty of your homemade soap videos because I NEED and WANT to learn and teach my children about it. I dry my herbs on racks in my garage because where I live is very, very hot during the Summer months. Now my garlic, chives and onions I dry outside on racks covered with cheese cloth. I also dry my herbs in the oven at 120 degrees if I run out during the Winter, I just keep an eye on them. But yes, I've also dried by hanging my herbs, but I'm just impatient knowing I have to wait 2-3 weeks for it to dry. If I dry outside or in my garage, I'll have herbs dried in 2-3 days depending on the heat. But if it's Winter and it's cold outside, I just pop them in the oven for 1 hour or so depending on the herb. I also dry jalapeños, bell peppers, sun dried tomatoes, citrus skins and freshly cut citrus thin slices that I like to drop in my teas for the Winter, I also dry my own fruits like peaches, apples, apricots, berries, figs and Pineapple etc. Just use your imagination.

    I seldom use my Excalibur since I got my Harvest Right. I L O V E to can. It’s an obsession but freeze drying is a close second. I recently did a full load of kale, & pumpkin purée ( for dog food). I just took out a load of cubed sweet potatoes that I took from my freezer, now I am running a load of raw beef liver that I use solely for my homemade dog food. Next in queue will be broccoli, zucchini (again), salmon (for dog food), onions. Last night, I made a pot of homemade soup tossing in scoops of freeze dried, carrots, peas, celery, onions into my canned broth, canned tomatoes, tomato powder, canned ground beef. No prep! I just poured and dumped! I love having my canned and FD foods in my long term pantry.

    • @TheMacsLife0
      @TheMacsLife0  Год назад +1

      Yes ! Pay debt off first! Then start a savings envelope for future investments - prioritize what's more important to your family
      Just wash dry herbs or fruits (in small peices) put on your trays and allow to dry until completely crispy
      Then store in a cool dark place
      Things you will eat first can be store in jars and items for long term in Mylar bags (they seal at the top so when opened - reuse!!) seal under the opened area!

    Misty, 👋👋👋 can I store basil,garlic and olive oil together in a jar in a room and how long will it last?

    • @TheMacsLife0
      @TheMacsLife0  Год назад +1

      Yes I would keep it in the oil for a couple week maybe 6-- then strain off the basil and garlic - the oil will keep for as long as any oil
      If you have a really warm spot it will infuse the oil much better :)

    Do you have AC in your house? It's too humid for me to just hang in the window to dry out herbs. In the winter I can do that, but not in the summer 😢

    Can you freeze what ever product you have before using a dehydrator or does it still not work like a freeze dryer?

    • @TheMacsLife0
      @TheMacsLife0  Год назад

      It still would not work the same
      It draws moisture out while I'm a frozen state
      The dehydrator isn't built with taht technology
