Great video. The string trick worked a treat. Found it very easy to do and popped open almost straight away. The handle is broken hence why it wasn't opening. Not sure why the emergency release didn't work though given the issue. Still I was able to get my laundry out and the replacement handle is on it's way. Thank you.

Yes.... Taking the plug out of the socket for 5 mins, then plugging back and power-on made the Hotpoint Washing Machine Door open... Thank you so much 😎👌.... This is amazing video, you definitely helped wasting a lot of time and panicking. Fully appreciated 🙏

Thank you so much! I was done in 15 mins and my washing machine works again! The "damn" modern Hotpoint doesn't have a lever for emergency opening. Had to drain the filter on the bottom for the door to open. Thankfully, it was only about 2l of water. Thank you for the help once again!
Thanks for the good ideas. I was actually looking for a door unlock code, eg some secret combination of button presses. I am sure there must be some way to unlock it with this method.
OMG IT WORKED! ✨Thank you so much, I’ve used step 3. I saw that the pull lever on my Hotpoint is on the left side, and I had initially gotten scared that I couldn't find it on the right side near the drain :)) but it worked like magic 🎉
I'm so pleased I found an expert on the same machine my Mum has. She just phoned me to say the lights are on permanently. She has switched it off by the mains for an hour, and then after switching it back on, they still wont go out. Have you got any ideas how to fix it please? Or anyone else?
We had a similar issue with this model & unfortunately it died after that and was likely an electrical fault. Depends how old it is whether you decide to try a repair\fix or get a new washing machine. Good luck.
@@LurgsHowToGuides Thank you for getting back to me so soon. I suspect it is the computer panel and it's about 10 years old, so I'll take a look at it on Saturday, but I'm guessing it's a case of buying a new one too.. Thanks again for responding though.
@@djGreenALERT Yes a call out or repair could be £60 + any parts so £100+ and you could get a brand new machine for £200 ish. I’ve got videos how to disconnect and connect washing machines, it’s fairly easy. Good luck when you have a look.

Our Hotpoint doesn't have one of these plastic pull down levers at the bottom. Had a look with a torch & a mirror up the hole where it should be, can't see anything. The door handle doesn't have a moving latch either, it's just a handle.
@@LurgsHowToGuides Thanks, did a rinse cycle & it opened, used it a 2nd time & still OK. Most likely an intermittent fault. If so maybe a new machine is the best option.
So I’ve just come home from work and mine won’t open. Took the bottom off no green pull tab. Credit card method won’t work and I’ve unplugged it all too. I’m at my wits end with it….what else can I do?
Well son-of-a-b!tch, it worked!!! I got to step 5, had tried it a few times and was ready to give up as i wasnt going to try step.6. Gave it one more go then bang, the door popped open!! The door mechanism is broken, but thanks to your tips I am still able to use the washing machine to do washes, thank you so much!! 👍🏿

I wish I'd seen this video because we went for 6 break it something wrong because changed latch and interlock but the door won't lock and when I turn the washer on you can hear the interlock clicking but it won't lock copied everything but still?
Reason this happens a lot is the crap quality of the latch >The door handles have a plastic section that forces the metal latch >The plastic breaks....!

Aaaand it turned out that my misery was caused by a colour catching tissue, sucked into the filter. Lesson learned, manicure ruined 😂
Colour catchers and hair clips are the most common. We never use colour catchers, way too risky and do they even work!

Try a reset by holding in Power button for about 3 seconds. This may clear the issue hopefully

If none of these steps worked then I’m afraid I’ve no idea. Sounds like a faulty door latch but I’ve never heard one that couldn’t be forced open.
My machine stopped in the middle of a cycle during a power cut. I'll be damned if I can get it open. The emergency handle doesn't work
