  • Final days of 1948 and the first week of 1949 saw an intensive use of Macchi C.205V by the Egyptian Air Force. This also led to several confrontations with Israeli fighters such as Spitfire and Mustang flown by experienced veterans. How did the Egyptian pilots do in these battles? Check out in the video.

    Great story on the operation of Macchi 205. Searching for information on the act of sabotage of 18 September 1949, I found an article that mentions that the Egyptians claimed the shooting down of a P51, this according to an unspecified English source.

  • @IsraelKochin

    The paint scheme used by the Israeli's in 1948 was in development (basically the planes were just sent up as fast as they could be fielded with just basic IAF roundel's and the ground-crew then modified them or didn't), these colors in the video seem accurate for the IDF in 1956, although In the officially commissioned painting of Ezer Weizman's Spitfire in 1948 it is camouflaged, although in a lot of the photos, especially of IDF P-51's in 1948 war you don't see camouflage -so i'm a little unable to be definitive. I apologize if I am wrong, but my guess is the spitfires were camouflaged but the P-51's were not. [ I tried to include some links with my comment, but got error messages when i did. ]

    • @showtime112
      @showtime112  5 месяцев назад +1

      Actually, I'm pretty certain that Israeli Mustangs in the 1948 War were not camouflaged but silver. And in fact, War Thunder has a specific skin for one of those. I purchased it but I was quite frustrated with the fact that I couldn't make it work in user scenarios. So I went with the camouflage, which is default for Israeli Mustangs in the game. It's not historically accurate but it's one of the challenges I face when doing these scenarios.

      I might cover the V-1 shootdowns someday, there's quite a number of pilots who were successful in it. As for Macchis in Israeli hands, perhaps the biggest difference would have been fewer landing/takeoff accidents and Israeli pilots lost in them as the S-199 was very dangerous to fly.

      The Italean attack on tell Aviv took place on September 1940, it followed several attacks on Haifa which had a port which was used by the British navy. Tel Aviv had nothing military inside or around it back than.
      King David hotel was bombed by Jewish anty British militia because it served the British administration back then. A worning was issued but the British authorities didn't take it seriously.

      Terrorism is generally considered illegal per laws of warfare. In a war, bombing the factories supplying war material to the enemy as an act of sabotage is generally not regarded as terrorism. For example, If carried out from the air, it is considered "Strategic Bombing" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategic_bombing I'm not sure what to call it if the bombs are planted in the factories, but "terrorism" seems inappropriate. I don't see the term Strategic bombing being limited to a declared state of war [certainly bombing a supplier could be seen as an "act of war".]
