When I tell you guys that I put SO much time into this video, I 1000% mean it. This video might very well be my favorite I have ever made, so I hope you guys love it! Also, in case anyone asks, the A-20 bombers are used in this video instead of B-17s because I don't have access to those planes in this simulator. So I did my best! Please comment how you did, and if you enjoy my content, please consider supporting me on Patreon here: www.patreon.com/TJ3History
haha, I did in fact ask myself that question
You know someone in their mom's basement will be mad about that.
Please do more videos like this. I really enjoyed it and I would love to see a scenario series like this
This was really cool and engaging! Thank you for all your hard work!
I got 95% right and I got two wrong answer I was watching TV show dog fight on the History Channel there was one Brave pilot he did polio German plane and they went to their Airport and he took out the plane I just want to let you know about that and I do like your content
One thing I find fascinating with the ME-262's is that when they were first spotted, they caused pilots to be mentally evaluated after seeing "a propeller-less plane that flew faster than any plane they'd ever seen." As the quote goes, any sufficiently advanced technology can be misconstrued as magic, or something along those lines.
Nope. That's not true. U thinking that because u don't put it into conclusions, the war wS the same as every war after. Of course different scenarios but similar idea.
Many pilots knew about jet engines way before the great war of 1939. Jet engines where a concept for many in aviation fields. That technology was invented in the 30ths. But Germany actually did create UFo" u can actually find research on that suggesting that the first ever ufo was build by Germany during its formation of political power. I'm pretty sure that the magical objects referred to the Horton and the experimeGermany, aircraft of germany,
@@ulquiorra2520 the quote was more for a general purpose. Say, for example, you go back to medieval times with a helicopter, everyone would literally think you're God.
I do, however, see where you're coming from.
@@bpmgaming3351
And some civilians who observed jets being tested were laughed at as well.
I doubt that story. By the time the Me-262 was making its first combat sorties the RAF already had the Meteor in production and a squadron undergoing operational conversion undertaking its first operational sorties within 2 weeks of the ME-262. By August 1944 US bombers crews were being sent on training flights where they would have to defend against jet attacks as both defensive and offensive jet tactics were being worked out.
A lot of good that did they were still shot down by p51s
In the last scenario option C would have counted as a mission kill. By damaging the enemy fighter you would have done you duty in protecting the bombers. Furthermore, without a section to cover your six you in turn would be open to a surprise attack by a hidden enemy. Lone wolfs seldom lasted long in combat. The secret of success was to operate as part of a cohesive unit. A well disciplined fighter squadron could meet out far more destruction than any individual fighting on his own no matter how skilled.
in essence, in combat it is better to claim a damaged enemy aircraft that to be shot down with a confirmed kill.
You died
In the last scenario, option C was the redhead, which while technically raising your body count, leaves you at high risk for a child support ambush later on.
Wrong. In the last scenario you would have become a father if you landed your shots.
yeah, chase a jet fighter. Galaxy brain move.
The most successful pilot in History flew a German Bf109 and later a ME262. He racked up more than 300 kills and more impressively never lost a wingman
Another sim pilot here. Dodging ME-262's is pretty easy if you see them coming. Keeping them away from bombers is harder. Having time to climb above the bombers is unlikely, you'd better be there from the beginning. Most of the actual shoot downs occurred when a Mustang driver choose to give chase when a jet was returning to base. That or the jet simply flew away and disappeared. Yeah, risky stuff.
I shot down a 262 in a Brewster in Aces High 2 and heard from it quite long afterwards lol. Those were the days, 600-800 online players fighting on the arena.
Lol imagine calling yourself a ‘sim pilot’😂😂😂😂😂 you are playing a computer game, nothing more.
@@Jabber-ig3iw Perhaps you should try it one day. Good luck staying in the virtual air for more than 30 seconds.
@@Jabber-ig3iw we don't know what sim game he plays. He could be playing sim mode war thunder or DCS.
@@Jabber-ig3iw DCS world high fidelity aircraft are 1-1 replicas of an actual aircraft, with the cockpit fully modeled and functional exactly as the real aircraft is, a flight stick, and foot pedals. The physics model is exact too.
From a mental point of view, most pilots lack the killer attack drive their ancestors did,
I know this old story, there was this one case of an air show in Brittain where this old retired in his 50 Luftwaffe pilot got in the cockpit of salvaged and restored Bf109, and used live rounds to shoot down some balloon over the ocean, he outperformed the RAF rookies who were using jets, to put on a show, there were also these other retired veterans from the Blue Angels, and they were laughing they're asses off at the rookies, after landing the plain he started asking them "Have none of you ever asked your fathers or grandfathers what to throttle felt like, the roar of the engines, the clenching of the teeth when the machine guns fires!?" "If not, then be thankful, for if we hand I would have to write to your mothers saying I'm sorry I had to shoot down your child", he chewed them out,
Mindblowing Idea!!!
I've survived but I have a fair experience from online sim battles so it wasn't particulary difficult to make the decisions.
Please do more of these !
It's a great concept!
You could also do it with bombers :) like the b17 or b24 ....etc
Btw
What sim did you use to film this?
[EDIT] : 100 likes !! Thanks a lot guys!! :)
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed! And IL-2 Sturmovik.
@@TJ3
Thanks buddy!
@@TJ3 i like how RUclips considers it Warthunder haha
@@AsrielKujo wait it wasn't? it looks exactly like war thunder
@@220croa it's... not, the creator litterally said what the program is, IL-2 Sturmovik
Man, it’s wild to think that all my War Thunder sim play has paid off this much! Although I’ve never escorted formations of bombers at a time, I’ve found that the bombers’ gunners often repel enemy aircraft like magnets, hence my constant decision to return to the formation. Furthermore, for you up-and-coming pilots, if A. The enemy is faster than you, go back. B. It seems too good to be true, IT IS.
Thank you for coming to my dogfighting Ted Talk.
if its too easy, its a trap, cannons are good killers
Try Aces High. Warning though: You'll get shot down a lot for the first days. The guys left over there are true pros.
I'd maybe agree with you if you would've said DCS and not war thunder. No offense but you didn't learn shit from war thunder. Even DCS isn't the most realiatic thing out there.
War thunder Bombers AI are waaaayyy too accurate. Specially in Custom Mission: Intercept Bombers you can't even get a change to fly by. It's one of the reasons I started playing IL-2.
Yeah, because is a game and tou have nothing to lose, there are no lifes to protect.
When you are in war, you oftentimes fly even through a storm of bullets because if you take that bomber down you would potentially saved hunderds of lifes, lifes of people you know and people who have trained/worked/suffered with you, your "comrades", "brothers in arms".
When you are a militar, your life is the last one that matters: every other person on your country goes first, even more if that means giving your life for them
I ended up choosing in order: “C”, “B”, “A”, “C” & “Betty.” I chose “B” for the second option not to run from the fight, but to gain altitude and assess the situation.
I did the exact same thing, I didn't want to just go back into formation but to gain altitude/better defensive perimeter around the bombers.
Any fighter pilot that runs in that case doesn't deserve wings.
@@hyperx72 the 262 is damaged and out of the fight. Save your ammo and return to your bombers.
@@roofkorean39 No before I hit it, when it made a pass then sped away
@@hyperx72 ah my fault
Yeah on the second set of options, option B was specifically, "turn from the fight, putting distance between you and the enemy". Except when the answers came, he suddenly changed it to mean that B mean running away, which is not how I interpreted it at all.
I think that C would mean you are more likely to get shot down because you are going to be slow and on a predictable flight path, where as if you take a moment to break off the engagement for a few moments and set up for a more favourable position, you are more likely going to be able to effectively protect the bombers, because you aren't going to be such an easy target.
If he said that B meant running away I would have never chosen B. So that set of options was a bit of a fail imo.
12/10.. best video on you tube.. me and my 5 year old son sat down and watched this on a Sunday morning and had a valuable teaching and critical thinking/ history lesson. Awesome job guys, consider making this a series.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
I survived! All those hours in IL-2 BoX paid off lol
But back on topic, these "Would you survive" videos are awesome. It really goes to show how these combat veterans had to have really good situational awareness and split second decision making to make it out alive. Would love to see more videos like this!
Thanks!
Congratulations on this new format, it was pretty fun! There was a show on the old History channel that did the same thing, but I can´t remember the name.
Dogfights did that pick your option scenario at times.
Yep was history channel dogfights
I almost died the second round lol, pls make more of this!
Will do!
Had the pleasure of meeting a P-51 Pilot who was in a dogfight with the legendary ME-262. The P-51 pilot name was Clayton Kelly Gross and the plane he was flying is the same name as his book, Live Bait. Heard from his stories including the one where he engaged with the Me262. He even one upped himself as a special thank you for taking the time to listen to an old war vet and his stories went to his room and came back with a copy of his book and autographed it.
Great video TJ3! I survived without an issue. I've been playing flight sims since the early days of PC gaming, and fighter tactics are fighter tactics, so maybe an unfair advantage. But, fair air to air combat is bad tactics, always look for the advantage! Thanks again for the great video! Oh, picked the brunette, but that was also because of experience ;)
Glad you enjoyed it!
I picked the Brunette too.😉✌️
I survived too and I chose the red hair Susan because my first crush as a child was on a red haired girl in the class. Eldrid Sandanger was her name. I don't think she is a pilot.
Well... lets just say the red head n I got to know each other pretty well that night ;)
I survived almost entirely because I like the Me-262.
Great video! Would love to see more content like this, with different scenarios and planes. I see a lot of potential in a series like that, but I also understand it takes a LOT of time and effort to make this kind of video.
You guys keep commenting and watching and I'll do my best to make more!
You should do more videos like this. Really enjoyed this one TJ3 History.
Thanks!
I think sitting in front of a screen and making these decisions is really easy most of the answer are really easy to make and logic but that's because there is no pressure. I understand why pilots back then were shot down in these situations.
The video was incredibly well put together, the questions were smart and i the right places of the dogfight. I'm no a pilot but I play A LOT of DCS and the test was fairly easy, but still incredible job.
this was an amazing experience great approach to a video I applaud you and anyone who put work into this
This is an amazing video can you do more of these please its already awesom i cant wait till i watched the end
Thanks!
Good fun & very well done : )
Thank you 🤗
Wow! What a marvelous video. TJ3 is fantastic. Really fantastic.
Absolutely awesome work TJ, really enjoyed it and learned a few things too!
another cool video keep it up! 👏
Thanks! 😀
"Aced" it! I'm not a pilot, but as a military aircraft junkie I've seen enough videos and documentaries to know this much about fighter tactics. Great content!
The videos are truly amazing, well done on all of them, this video had me in the cockpit, enjoyed every minute, I chose all the right answers ,looks like I live to fight another day, thanks again for the amazing job you create in making these videos,I'm a major fan
Very good , Great concept. Well done!
Great video! I survived. Know when to hold them, know when to fold them. Protecting the bombers is job 1. Everybody possible comes home, you get some great gun cam video of damaging a 262. Maybe a partial!
In the initial bounce I think breaking right or left would have worked equally well. The roll rate on a 262 isn't anywhere near what it is on a 190 and breaking left would put you under his nose quickly,, while breaking right gets inside his arc. If the 262 has a wingman you could be turning into his fire whichever way you go. An aggressive (and risky) response might also have been to continue the roll and see if you could get some fire on them as they shoot past instead of pulling through a turn.
Yes option B would have worked also
However, the scenario specifies that the 262s are coming in from four o'clock, not dead astern, which means that turning left would be turning to align your plane with their line of flight, decreasing the angle-off that they're shooting from and simplifying their firing solution. Turning into them immediately increases the angle-off and forces them either to zoom to trade airspeed for altitude in a high yo-yo to be able to bring their nose around faster, or extend out to get separation before coming back around. C is still superior to B.
I liked the format of this video. The multiple-choice questions make the viewer think and interact.
Great job on this video!
Interestingly enough, i got every single one right, but every single time, my reasoning was incorrect.
1: My reasoning for turning right was that, since the 262s were already banking left, turning right would force them to completely change direction, thus throwing off their aim for long enough to shoot right past me, since they were so much faster than me.
2: Climbing is the right option here. Chasing a 262 down with a prop plane is obviously impossible if the 262 is undamaged, and i didn't even consider running, since my job was to protect the bombers.
3: My job is to protect the bombers. There's little point in doing anything else but going for an attack run on an enemy fighter about to hit the bombers i'm tasked with protecting. I already have the energy advantage, and the jets of the era had pretty poor climb rate anyway compared to their contemporary piston driven counterparts.
4: Again, my job is protecting the bombers, not shooting down enemy fighters. If i manage to shoot one down, that's a nice side effect of course, but i already forced the 262 into retreating from its attack run. I've already done what i was tasked to do. There's really no good reason to chase it now. Plus, even if i managed to shoot it down while chasing it, after doing so, i not only have to climb back up in order to regroup with the bomber formation, but also, until i do, i'm a single, isolated fighter in enemy territory, and thus vulnerable to follow-up attacks.
Idk man that’s spot on reasoning all around
1. but you wouldn't even know which way they were banking, youre getting attacked by surprise and wouldnt have time to look behind you lmao
Stay on mission & discipline to follow Boelke's rules of engagement. All that's needed to survive.
Good one, that is a good test although I'm sure fighter pilots faced multiple decisions like this every minute.
I did manage to make four good decisions here though.
I might survive my first mission..
Thanks!!
genious idea and great production would love to see more of them
Great episode! 👍
An Australian P51D pilot in Europe found out, he survived, the Me 262 didn’t, BUT his P51D was determined to be a write off, because his wings buckled and wrinkled from the G forces when he pulled out of the dive he put the aircraft through so he could blow the Me 262 out of the sky.
The issue would depend most often upon the 262's flight status - it was far more vulnerable on takeoff and landing than in flight. That was how *Chuck Yeager * downed a pair. The Germans tried protecting the fields with normal fighters and additional flak batteries (often manned by Hitler Jugend) but they were not generally a match for the later P-51s.
the german fighter performed better than p51 below 6000m. additional the p51 wasnt really resilient to gunfire, exspecially explosive shells. so using them in ground attacks vs airfields with fighter cover is pure dumbness. only the sheer numbers of p51 could turn this idea become not disaster....if pilots inside the plane are around equal in skills. fortunatly für US most skilled german pilots where already dead or on the eastern front( similar like ground forces). but if they get on one of them, they got really problems with high own losses( for example when E.Hartmann met some P51s over romania mid 1944.....)
@@egal680 Germany made a horrible mistake flying their pilots to death. Aircraft production according to Speer was up in 1944 despite Allied attacks. Unhappily, pilot production was not. America sent pilots home if they survived 25 or 30 missions (roughly 50/50 chance) to act as instructors for new pilots for the duration. The later P51s did indeed provide cover from altitude higher than 6000m ; it had a service ceiling of 12,800 m. I have relatives in Germany named Hartmann ; I should check and see if there is any connection to the pilot ...
Outstanding video and presentation.
I have been interested in WW2 history since I was 5. I have watched many if the history Channel's Dogfights. This was a fun video to test my knowledge.
The correct answer for the last question wasn't listed. It's choice D: All of the above.
Why go home with one when you could go home with all 3?

There were times where I hesitated a bit but in the end I did managed to take the right course each time, you gotta know when to be aggressive and when to let a mark go, don't get greedy
The best video ever of TJ3 History by my opinion ♥️♥️💪👍👍👍
I survived because of War Thunder experience 👍👍😀😀
Very entertaining, thanks.
Towards the end of the war, it was the German pilots who had to worry about surviving. They were terribly out numbered and the newer pilots were under trained.
And the Me262 was very overrated, it had limited operational time in the air. It's engines usually lasted no longer than 100 hours, due to lack of metals, like Tungsten! and Allied pilots, followed it down to it's airfield, and shot it down, with ease! It was a rush job, born out of desperation!
@@sprinter1832 The ME262 was usually piloted by the best of the few remaining experienced pilots, that's why it had the success it did. On top of the issues you mentioned, the throttles had to be moved very slowly or else the engines could experience flame outs or other failures.
@@bradpotter6401 Yup! German engineering at it's most desperate!
The 262 pilots generally avoided fighter combat as their mission was to shoot down bombers and their planes were rather brittle compared to the US fighters.
Lol the 262 was more study than the p51
@@typehyuga607 The combat history disagrees. The 262 had two big advantages, speed and firepower. There are no stories of them taking stupid amounts of damage and still flying. If they were hit they were at best done for the day. What the 332 Fighter Group did against it. ruclips.net/video/X2mBs7HwsPA/видео.html
Thats an awesome video and concept a big gg for that
AMAZING VIDEO, I WAS LIKE A KID THINKING ABOUT EVERY OPTION!! SO FUN!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Courtmarshalled for cowardice
This is probably my favorite comment so far. Lol
Me too! But at least we’re still alive! 😂
I think there would have been enough time at full throttle on a banking dive with all six .50 cal.`s firing away at a wounded 262 making a landing approach would have been the best time to take a chance at actually killing the pilot who is harder to replace at this stage.Planes just fly,but humans make the decisions that make it or break it.It also would have other factors needed before I conclude. Is this enroute or escorting them home, how much ammo have I got ,am I in command and if so do I have wingmen who can stick with the bombers while I do a quick shoot and scoot...these are all important details.I think a Mustang could handle it on a short leash if the gap could be closed within 45 seconds, which is actually under the minutes that were mentioned until AAA range. If there was still a lot of mission to go,I might let it go,since there will be more 262`s and maybe some FW`s inbound now that the enemy knows where the bombers were last engaged.I would think a 262 kill would be a fairly big deal worth risking one`s life for, especially if it was the first one shot down in air combat, even if it was n`t a dog fight, per se.
This was fun and engaging, TJ3! I nailed it, but that’s only because I obsessively watch online dogfights and I kept my duty in mind throughout the mission. I wasn’t even aware of the flak and AAA on the ground during the 262’s descent-I just knew he was out of the fight and plenty of his buddies were still up there.
Great video! Really something different than most videos.
i survived and got greet by Susan , honestly it was so fun to participate in the video and the briefing determine aldready who while be shot down or Land later , Keep your mission in sight and protect other's at all cost

this is a great concept!
I suprised myself, got them all correct, wow! I have to credit my decisions in part to watching your videos, they are interesting and informative.
Excellent video! First time I've ever seen something like this. I did get them all right. BTW... I chose all three for the last option. :)
Oh yeah more of these!!
I'm kinda proud i followed all the correct options.
I'm studying WWII military history, tactics, vehicles etc as a hobby the past three years and I've kinda learned how dogfights, tank battles or naval engagements worked back then...

1. Stay on mission.
2. Remember Dicta Boelcke.

I'm so happy to say I survived; love the Mustang and makes me happy I know my dogfights in this aircraft well!
Yippee kiya! Ace in the making, Although I died later jumping from my b29. Great fun keep them coming.
Had loads of fun during the video! Fortunately, I played quite a lot of War Thunder, so by experience, i was able to survive without issues. Keep it up!
Another terrific video, TJ3! I can honestly say that I got all of the answers right, except for the last one... which means that I would have ended up as a bullet-ridden wreck, crashing into the ground! I hadn't known that the Germans increased their flak protection for wounded ME262s returning from combat
Nice format for the video! Keep uploading smth similar

i got all the decisions correct. That was a great video I really enjoyed it :>
I like the evolution of this channel this brings me back to the good days of the history channel "dog fights"episode
This was pretty cool. I’m sure for some the decisions were tough but I study a lot of history and battle tactics so for me this was really simple to survive. I’d like to see more of these though.
That was fun!
Great idea...I got all of em correct.
Very nice Video idea
Good one!!!
Great job
Good job. Very enjoyable

I found myself overthinking much of these. Following the immediate instinct helped to answer all the problems, from war tinder experience.
At age 20 I made a really good grade - according to the Navy officer procurement officer - on the AVROC test. I was on my way to the back seat of an F-4 as a RIO. But my 20/25, 20/40 vision had changed in the year since I lost my hard contact lenses and when I got to the sick bay for my physical I couldn’t read the biggest type. Now, though, at 74 my vision is better than it was when I passed the earlier ROC III test and joined the Navy. Not fair.
Thank you for that TJ3! It was fun. I only got one wrong and I would have not been considered fighter pilot material for that one haha.
Haha thanks!
I survived! What a fun video man! This has to take a lot of time and effort to make and I appreciate you.
Watching History videos and dogfights from ww2 really paid off
That was fun. I did well on all but one decision. This was a great idea and video. Most enjoyable.
Love this video. I survived and made it home to Darla :) Great job on this!
"That's the end of pretty boy"-lightning red tails
No idea why I'm watching this vid when I have the game and all the DLC to simulate this myself... but great video!
The Me 262 would often fly so fast that they couldn’t get a shot off before passing their targets. The other key issue was the relatively new jet engines which took about five minutes to reach full speed, allowing the jets to be vulnerable to Allied attacks. If the throttle were advanced too fast the engine would flame out. So the way to kill the plane was to follow it back to base and as it cut speed to land, kill it.
Imust say i love this video pls make another one for Battle of Britain out of the sight from a spitfire pilot and a 110 or Stuka one. Thank you for this great video
Perfect score
