The ME262 is lucky it never had to face a P-80. The P-80s that would've been in Europe had the war (for whatever reason) had lasted into the later parts of 1945 would have absolutely smoked them.
@@jakecurry7367 Had the war lasted until the end of 1945, the P-80 would have absolutely continued to transport pizzas from the Tyrrhenian to the Adriatic coast, shuttling fresh two-legged flesh back from the Balkans to the allied troops in Naples - which was its only capability. As far as you know, the P-80s have been in Italy for many months, carefully kept away from the Luftwaffe, for understandable reasons.

@@nighthawk6755 It did do some fighting, just not over German held territory, as they didnt want the Germans(Or Soviets) gathering intelligence from a crashed one.
I am really surprised that they even modeled the spring loaded leading edge flaps. They were part of the pre-flight checks I saw on a WWII film by the Luftwaffe. It showed aircraft mechanic double checking that both flaps were equally loaded under spring tension.
If you dive on people enough in the 262, you can actually bleed down the energy of a prop trying to get nose on you faster than the prop can recover it. Down to the point where they're on the deck below rate and you can use high instantaneous turn to get them as you fly by.
Dam well one Sir, very impressed. In the market for a "Flight Simulator" so this one is more to my liking. Love the 262, a beauty to behold. THANK YOU..
Excellent fun to fly, flew them many times in one or more of the IL-2 iterations, my squadron buddies and I used to have great fun getting the engines started, spooling up and taking of without them catching fire, sometimes 5 attempts or so, lol. Of course if one went on fire he would open fire on the 262 in front and make sure we all blew up, good times!
Engine failures on take-off were hair-raising for pilots of Me262 their sitting on top of the fuel tank, and it actually happened to one such pilot a heavy impact after engine failure ruptured fuel tank and burst into flames, suffered horrendous burns but survived even stayed in west german air force and retired a General, it's mentioned in Franz Stigler story A Higher Call
I can only imagine the carnage dealt to the U.S., British, and whomever else's Air Force, if the ME262 had entered the war sooner. Hitler was a crazy bastard S.O.B., but his Luffwaffe engineers were geniuses.
@Growling Sidewinder Skillz mate! You make dog fighting look so easy! I've just bought a rake of planes and campaigns in the steam sale, Cheers for the heads up Bud 👌
I just bought the rest of the series last night.. and all of the collector planes. God bless the sale. (Already had Stalingrad, Normandy and Bodenplatte)
I recall reading the Allied airmen discovered a weakness of the Me-262:it had to accelerate gradually because its engine couldn't take sudden high heat. Germany didn't have access to a heat resistant alloy(I believe it it was chrome-cobalt)which was mined in Turkey so they had to substitute steel. The Allied airman hung around German airfields waiting to pounce on a Me-262 coming in for a landing knowing the pilot couldn't speed away because doing so would destroy his engines.
Are you sure about that? Afaik the reason pilots of the Me262 had to gradually accelerate is because if they slam the throttle they simply induce a compressor stall and then it all over. This was WW2 after all so they had no super fancy engine control.
It dives like crazy for a WWII jet, has crazy high speed, can still out-turn other jets, and as for armament.... One second burst is comparable to a pair of teen series fighters put together. It's a death ray in slow motion.
These things, from my knowledge, were literally untouchable in the air. However, since the Luftwaffe didn't have the means to achieve air superiority from 1944 onward, they were easy targets for the allies when they attacked their airfields.
Germany "could" have had the ME-262 much earlier in the war. But the bearded and the fat guy weren't interested in Jet engines back then and the budget went into other things.
@@JazzJaRa I'm not familiar with this but considering the massive raw materials, manpower, and manufacturing issues they faced during the war I wouldn't be surprised if that's why they didn't build these earlier. Plus, these jets were a logistical nightmare to maintain and fly and they would have probably been better off building more 109s.
Very cool. Don’t suppose they have the British meteor jet fighter. As far as I know they never actually fought despite both being in WW2. Be interesting
Sadly no Meteors in IL2 yet, possibly in the future though as it would be a nice matchup. Also no 262 vs Meteor engagements happened unfortunately for us, both sides were hesitant to throw them deep into combat to prevent losses and it was already super late when they actually arrived in Europe anyways.
Packed with technical troubles, but the major problems were the degrading situation late in the war and doctrinal misuse. Just read a brief book on the units in 1944 and 1945 and the best part of it is just "the planes and ground crews have to move to another airfield" and "two or three jets took off to throw two useless bombs against a meaningless target somewhere".
The Me-626 uses 30mm... the A-10 also uses 30mm... My conclusion? The Me-262 would've been a viable design to base an attacker off of, back in the 2nd to 4th generations of aircraft.
Leading Edge Slats? They are pretty niffy, and all just moving on their own with only the plane's movement and the air being the mechanism that makes them move. The Bf/Me-109 has them too
How is the realism in terms of mechanical reliability? I've heard reports that the jumo turbojets had a nasty tendancy to flame-out or explode if you increased the throttle too far past what the engine was capable of burning at its actual rpm. Absolutely a beautifully deadly beast when used correctly, though.
Galland had a standing order when he took command of the JV-44 squadron towards the closing of the war. That order was you never dove bellow an opponent as the risk of ingesting debris from them into the Jumbo 004's was too great. So the German jets would always do a climbing over head pass instead against the bombers so as to avoid this. As a single engine Me-262 was as good as dead. Another German I liked was Nowotny when he got his Me-262 group he wanted to continue the snout to snout pass on the bombers since the B-17 and 24's had less armament to deal with an attack from dead front. But when you are going 500+ mph and the target is doing 230 the closing rate is almost as fast as the sound barrier. So he was never able to execute it successfully and so adopted the tail chase like all the other Me-262 groups that was formed after his.
I always wonder what the performance of the HE 162 Salamander would have been like if the Germans had time to work the bugs out of its design,...plus the glue problem for the wooden wings.
It's in the old Il-2 and it's a beast. Doesn't have that massive armament, but accelerates, rolls and climbs noticably better than the 262. Much more suitable for engaging fighters. They even added a faster prototype version in the 1946 version (the 262 HG II as well, though).
Also in this case, Eric Brown had already given an answer, after having tried the He 162: "He would have run rings around the Meteor" (there is a live interview somewhere in U-tube). As for the gluing problems, the deadly accident of the prototype was due to the temporary unavailability of the expected glue.
OMG MAN! They made that thing, during the war! Think about that, thank God they made it a few years late! I also raise my hat to Chuck Yeager, he quoted "First time I saw a jet plane, I shoot it!". Shooting these by propeller plane is sick!
How about a recreation of the first jet on jet battle? Gloucester Meteor vs. V1. Just in general using a few different planes to shoot down flying bombs would be interesting.
I'd love IL-2 if it only had a clickable cockpit .. I purchased Stalingrad, Kuban & Bodenplate (during sales) but could never get used to their unclickable cockpits. Nice video tough, let's hope that ED will eventually produce a Me-262 for DCS.

Eric Brown had already made a prediction on this, something like 77 years ago
Indeed
Watching some of your vids got me back into VR. Like a lot of people I had lots of trouble getting my Oculus to work on IL2 after Meta came along. Just could not get it working. Many attempts, and much swearing was necessary. But finally I am up and running again after an 18 month break. The WW1 aircraft are fabulous. So I now blame you for my wife calling me a big kid. Cheers. Keep chuckling.
im just imaging you in vr flying, looking at everything in your room, and yelling at the corner of your desk lol
man all this ww2 content making me wanna kiss you
lol, well lets hold off on that for now.
@@GrowlingSidewinder lol
@@GrowlingSidewinder "for now" whad do ya mean by that🤨
I'm open to negotiations down the road.
lol jk
Thanks man for making this video. Been waiting for this for so long. You are awesome.
Most modern airliners seem to have the ME 262 as an ancestor.
I really hope they're working on a Meteor module, it would be awesome to see a dogfight between these two beasts. Technically the Meteor was operational at this time just not allowed to fly over Axis held territory, but we could bend the rules a little...
Ye so technically it couldn’t because it didn’t fought = airacomet / p80 shooting star / me262 hg 1
@@nighthawk6755 It did do some fighting, just not over German held territory, as they didnt want the Germans(Or Soviets) gathering intelligence from a crashed one.
"First time I ever saw a jet, I shot it down." - Chuck Yeager.
I am really surprised that they even modeled the spring loaded leading edge flaps. They were part of the pre-flight checks I saw on a WWII film by the Luftwaffe. It showed aircraft mechanic double checking that both flaps were equally loaded under spring tension.
Loving the WW1 and WW2 content, keep up the great work. More Me-262 videos please!
I honestly dig the more OG battlefield song clip you use. It brings back gooood memories haha
I can barely keep the thing above 330kph at times in level flight for some reason and here you are zooming like a champ!
The Swallow is an incredible aircraft. I got a chance to see one at an air show in Houston a few weeks ago. It didn’t fly this year.....darn.
If you dive on people enough in the 262, you can actually bleed down the energy of a prop trying to get nose on you faster than the prop can recover it. Down to the point where they're on the deck below rate and you can use high instantaneous turn to get them as you fly by.
3:47 I could listen to that all day!
On a side note, that 30mm cannon in the Me262 is the precursor to the ones used in many modern jets.
Dam well one Sir, very impressed.
In the market for a "Flight Simulator" so this one is more to my liking.
Love the 262, a beauty to behold.
THANK YOU..
I know it's sad as a grown man watching someone else play a game, but it's so damn fun...
''Als ob ein Engel schiebt.''
Make sure you have some 109s or 190s covering your landing approach and takeoff though.
Time to put you into a Komet.
8:35 You can def tell you're using VR by your "Whoooooooaaa Hoooooeee"
My favorite fighter to play when I played 'Aces over Europe'. The 30mm Cannon on the ME262 is disgusting.
I see you've beaten that "get those 614k of conventional memory" game as well :)
I can only imagine the carnage dealt to the U.S., British, and whomever else's Air Force, if the ME262 had entered the war sooner. Hitler was a crazy bastard S.O.B., but his Luffwaffe engineers were geniuses.
GS, would you be planning to upload some tutorials on IL-2? Currently struggling trying to get the hang of most allied fighters.
Beautiful elegant design on the 262. Always loved it.
The Battlefield 1942 music! Great detail.
@Growling Sidewinder Skillz mate! You make dog fighting look so easy! I've just bought a rake of planes and campaigns in the steam sale, Cheers for the heads up Bud 👌
Have to say these graphics are exceptional
Fantastic flying!
I just bought the rest of the series last night.. and all of the collector planes. God bless the sale. (Already had Stalingrad, Normandy and Bodenplatte)
Solid purchases man it’s nice to see so many people supporting these devs
Imagine seeing one of these for the very first time in aviation history
YOU ARE THE BEST THING ON RUclips BY FAR!!!!!!!❤️
no you
I recall reading the Allied airmen discovered a weakness of the Me-262:it had to accelerate gradually because its engine couldn't take sudden high heat.
One of my favorite planes of all time! It fuselage looks just like a shark.
F22 of it's day. Where the F22 has maneuverability/stealth, the Me262 had speed/surprise (stealth).
These must have been so incredible when they first hit the skies. It's like a solid state airplane 😂😂
Same for P-80. They've been there and operating (2 in Italy and 2 in GB IIRC), but never met the 262.
I love the Battlefield music during the kill cams
Growling sidewinder is the Bob Ross of flight simulators 100%
Just awesome seeing the slats deploy automatically... Impressive detail!
262 was also a rattletrap for an aircraft and extremely dangerous to operate and maintain.
One shot, one kill. What a thrill!
3:35 that mine shell is very terrifying.
More Me262 gameplay please! It was so emersive to watch
Love the fact that you transition to the metric units when flying German aircraft, "miss me by centimeters" LOL
The Uhu would be better, Me used the slow speed 30 mm for planes.
A-10 vs me262 and me262 vs f-22
Anyone noticed the ME262 wings' leading edges moving? Never knew they had such elaborate mechanics on that plane - chapeau, thx Il-2!
Leading Edge Slats? They are pretty niffy, and all just moving on their own with only the plane's movement and the air being the mechanism that makes them move.
The Bf/Me-109 has them too
8:39 is the best Micheal Jackson impression i've ever heard lmao!
That P38 kill was really close, must be a blast in VR.
I love this IL-2 Content keep it up! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for posting this! Better than Italian aircraft...
I use the "Erich Hartmann" method.
I wait until the target aircraft fills up my cockpit windshield.. Then I pull the trigger
Looks like fish in a barrel. Unreal! O__O Imagine the first time getting strafed by this damn thing. Must have blown the allied forces minds.
Brilliant Sir, Love your style.
More please.
It does this in IL2 1946, happens to me every time
It would bevery interesting to see the capabilities of the Me-262 vs later jet fighters such as the F-86, MiG-15, and a few more modern aircraft.
Nice plane. I've got one of these flying on a Tempest in Il-2 The Forgotten Battles a few years ago while online.
Oh, jet planes versus buzzing clay pigeons! What an heroic fight, very British.
I'd love IL-2 if it only had a clickable cockpit .. I purchased Stalingrad, Kuban & Bodenplate (during sales) but could never get used to their unclickable cockpits. Nice video tough, let's hope that ED will eventually produce a Me-262 for DCS.
Why would you want to click on the cockpit lol? You dont even have a mouse pointer in VR
