After watching this video, along with some others, my wife is considering that vehicle for her next buy. It's not a dedicated off-roader, and for people like us who work and occasionally venture out on weekend trips, a dedicated off-roader isn't necessary. We need something that can be driven with great safety and comfort from Monday through Friday on pavement, and that can handle gravel, sand, and mud on off-pavement terrain during the weekends. Subaru really shines in this regard. To my knowledge, no other vehicles meet these requirements. For your information, it's been three months since I acquired my '23 Forester Sports, and I'm absolutely in love with it. My kids compare the spaciousness of the passenger area to their bedroom, just to give an idea of the ample space available in the rear. Thanks, Ryan, for creating such realistic videos that aid in our decision-making process.
FWIW I had similar requirements and ended up getting a Bronco Sport, specifically the Badlands trim. This channel has some good videos with it as well.

A turbo in an offroad focused vehicle is totally misplaced. You won't be reaching speeds where a turbo would be used and this CVT is geared for offroad, so it would likely not act the way you'd want a tubro to on the highway.

@@domenik8339false. A high torque turbo would be great. This motor is a joke. Load up your Crosstrek with people and equipment and you have silly power
@@myplaxismodelisbetterthanyours I'd argue that if you're loading your crosstrek up all the time, you shouldn't have bought the crosstrek in the first place. It is a small vehicle at the end of the day, and the forester and outback are both better options for more people and equipment.
You'll probably never see this , but I'm loving the content and style. Keep it up, you have helped me pick my next subaru that I'm picking up in a couple weeks
Besides additional skid plates, this Crosstrek Wilderness needs a steeper approach angle, hindered (as all Subarus are) by the long front overhang. I'm also not a fan of the intrusiveness of that large "Eyesight" camera stuff hanging from the ceiling.
Absolutely agree with your comments around 17:00, 19:30 and 20:15 regarding the missing front camera. Considering the price of the vehicle I cannot justify the omission. How would you rate 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness front visibility? I test drove another 2024 Crosstrek model and found the 3-camera eye sight assembly and the rearview mirror too obtrusive - they create a blind spot that can be dangerous, especially around merging ramps. I caught myself frequently hunching over forward or to the side to see street lights and road signs that are positioned high on the right side of the road.
Thank you for the delightful video of such a fun and capable vehicle. This Crosstrek Wilderness reminds me of the Corolla All-Tracs that used to ply the roads of the Southern Tier before they all rusted away by the mid-2000s.
100% right on the skid plate, bought my OBW 2 weeks ago and already have a front, mid and rear diff plates installed and I'm only doing light off-road and snow.
I don’t know why I think this little Truck / Car thing is so cool for reference I own a Gen2 and Gen3 Raptor and I have a Navigator but this little thing I truly think is cool I’d drive this daily for sure
Great initial review, excited to see more as you get test it! I will be testing mine as soon as it gets here, I managed to get an allocated one that matched what I wanted.
I like the moment where Ryan says that the better approach angle pays off and hits the ground with the left corner of the front bumper:))) Boy, that Subaru's signature overhangs...
I have a 2019 Crosstrek and love it. I don’t want a bigger, heavier, thirstier, more expensive Outback. The new Wilderness is tempting, but I’m still deciding. I’ve been rigging up beds in cars for over 50 years. I shove the passenger seat as far forward as it will go and add a carefully designed plywood platform. Add a couple of PVC pipe legs, and I have a 6’ bed where I can stretch out.
Great video and it helped me alot on finally making up my mind on this suburu ! I have a 2door Rubicon and this suburu is not as bulky and way more comfortable than the jeep. I'll keep both
It's so weird how US wilderness editions only come with that little strip of aluminum under the bumper, but the Canadian versions come with a full proper engine skid, with a rear diff skid too!
@0HOON0 Who knows? My Wilderness Forester has definitely seen its share of dirt sand and mud. I'd guess the volume of sales in Canada is so much lower than the US that it's just more economical for Subaru to equip all Canadian ones the same way instead of worrying about packages or options.
@jimbrown7261 ruclips.net/video/qTg6JEZOCCY/видео.htmlsi=CX8NfWP5vr9WlXIi There's a video of the 2 that come stock in Canada. I think you can also order a transmission skid and gas tank skid from Subaru.
I have the 2024 OBW (Canada) and it came with the same piece of plastic/aluminium protection at the front. The dealership told me that the skid plates are officially discontinued for the 2024 models (parts shortage?).
The forester is more my size but that small engine is even more noticeably slow in that bigger vehicle. I wish they stock a hybrid motor in both for a little extra oomph.
Have a 2023 Forester Wilderness got it with 12 miles and already have 3k miles on it... I live in CO and have explored some off road areas and it definitely is a fun car. Can not complain about the average 27mpg either compared to my 16 on my 2017 Discovery. I sometimes wish I had gone with the Outback for the turbo motor and a little more power but for daily commute and some casual off road / camping it will due.
I have an Impreza that I've had front struts fail and changed 4 times in ~6 years. The off road capability of this looks amazing but I just can't imagine having another Subie with those issues.
The suspension travel looks pretty good! If they don't already have a 2.0 turbo offering you can bet that they're going to follow the crowd and offer it. The Compass Trailhawk, The Cherokee Trailhawk, the bronco sport. They have to.
Great show. You had said that “ Subaru hadn’t done what other manufacturers have done. “Taken a existing model and slapped on some all-terrain tires and a badge”. I love to see a head to head of the Subaru against Mini Countryman. On that same off road course ?
OK. I'm back! When I first read about the cross-state adventure, I knew I was in! As a long time subscriber I knew Ryan was going to use this trip as a teaser. I am OK with that! Throughout the video he was smiling, which is very good, for the vehicle he is reviewing. Other comments that he should trademark were: "Change settings... not!, This is so much fun!, Ha-Ha!, I can't go too fast! Yeah! That was fun!, This thing... pretty awesome." Aside from all that, I really liked this kind of long-form video which is what is needed for some cars. I was also wondering why he didn't activate the front-view camera... "Front camera? No! Not even as an option." Which is a very sorry thing for Subaru. I mean, built exclusively to off-road pursuits, and you DON'T even OFFER that as an option. BOO! Oh.. it's not Halloween yet. Oh, well! I did appreciate his end comment, however, "This thing... pretty awesome!" I will more-than-likely have a heart attack in anticipation of the next video. This one will rise above most to a high ranking in my TOP 10 Driving Sports videos. Keep 'em coming, Ryan!
I love your videos-- learn a lot--- anyway- now I'm a bit TORN between this and the OUTBACK-- but Wildnerss on the OUTBACK and the LIMITED on this one-- (and I'll lift it and change the wheels to make it a wilderness with MORE stuff!! )
On my 2nd Crosstrek Limited now, love this vehicle. People that usually talk negative about Subarus, never owned one lol Shame on Subaru for releasing this Wilderness..... now I want to trade. Great video as usual!! Only thing I'd do is probably replace the tires for Yokohama Geolander G15s, Falken Wild Peaks or Pirelli All Terrain Plus tires.
ooh, another awesome video! super looking forward to this - I do some occasional camping and go over some light trails so I was looking at this vs the Mazda CX-5. I would totally get this but I want the ventilated seats if I go for long drives, plus the beefier engine for overtaking in those single-lane highways. Looking forward to the long term review and road trip!
@DrivingSports - Do you know why the Forester Wilderness has a lower tow capacity rating vs the Crosstrek Wilderness? The Forester is rated at 3000lbs vs 3500lbs in the Crosstrek. The Outback is also rated at 3500lbs, but has the larger engine so the extra tow capacity makes sense. The Forester and Crosstrek basically share the same engine, so the tow rating difference has me scratching my head… thoughts?
Ryan, can you please share more about RPM on the highway, Wilderness vs Regular 2.5 liters? Let's say, at 70 mph, how many more RPMs do you see in the Wilderness model? Does that bother you?
Thankfully Ryan you didn't run into any Tusken Raiders on your visit to Tatooine.😊 Those little Jawa can be quite pesky though. 😆Are you sure all of the parts are still on the Subaru?? Please take care Ryan and thank you for all of your time and efforts.
You know, I'm in the market to buy a 2024 CT, but I've been waiting for this review and excited for the next one you'll post in about a week, so thank you. I will say, I'm upset that they rid the entire trim line of manual transmission, but at the very least you can "switch" gears via paddle shifting and the side benefit of getting dual x-mode, however, in Canada Subaru has yet to include the CTW on their website with all specs and cost, so its a bit deflating trying to make an informed decision with no information at hand. Debating between CT Onxy and CT Wilderness. The American trims specs are always different than the Canadian counterpart, so that doesn't help. Great review!
good onya mate ! great video. Unfortunately here in Australia, Subaru refuses to market the 2.5 Crosstrek. We only get the 2 litre engine. Which is weird because here the Crosstrek 2.0 and the Forster 2.5 are pretty much the same price. Meanwhile we are campaigning hard for the return of the Subaru Brumby ute (that's a 'pickup' in your parlance). Cheers !
We have the '24 Outback Wilderness. I find the front camera to be effectively useless. The screen is too small and dim to be able to see anything on a clear day. I have taken it through some pretty rough areas here in Phoenix like the undulating landscape of the White Tanks mountain park and various forest roads up north and have yet had a need to air down or use a traction board. It is quite capable. Engagement of the turbo though is a bit rough and unpredictable, Subaru needs to work on smoothing that out.
I'm liking the Wilderness model series. I was looking at a Forester Wilderness this past weekend. Kind of like it, but it had a couple things added-on that I didn't care for LOL. Upgraded stereo which added almost $2k to the price tag. A few other add-ons that brought the price up close to $40k. The dealer said the upgraded stereo and starlink were standard features in the Wilderness, but the build page shows they are actually add-ons LOL. So, I'd guess if I sat down with a salesman I could just order the Forester Wilderness how I would want it spec'd rather than how the dealer ordered it. Not sure if the extra $1800-1900 for that radio/starlink stuff is worth it or not?
All Subarus have Starlink. The extra $$ is in the subscription for added connectivity features. They might be referring to the upgraded Starlink head unit. Which is, indeed, an upgrade. That is included in the bundled HK audio+power rear gate package.
@@drivingsports Thanks, do you feel that upgrade is worth it? I'd like to skip the sunroof in any vehicle I would buy, and I think that is also part of that package, and probably the highest expense portion too LOL. Don't care for the leaks that will develop or the failures. I've never cared for a sunroof to begin with....so I'd have to skip the package anyhow HAHA since its included...yuck, wish you could just build a vehicle with what you want, not what the manufacturer thinks you want LOL.

I read all the comments. 👍🏼-RD
Yes! I've been waiting for this review!
Have my cross wilderness 4 days now. Love Love Love it!!
Night n day from my 18 cross premium...
Killer review. Looking forward to seeing one at your course!!
100% right on the skid plate, bought my OBW 2 weeks ago and already have a front, mid and rear diff plates installed and I'm only doing light off-road and snow.
I know you're not a comedian, but you give me a good chuckle every time you let us know your legs to torso are proportional.😊
Id love to see a re-run of this vrs the Bronco Sport Badlands?
Great car. Love the way this video was filmed love the music etc. well done video. Love your content
The Crosstrek, now with more Otter Box standard.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing these on the forest service roads here in Washington.
Niiiice, bro. Been waiting for this one
Awesome, I've got one coming in a couple of weeks, I feel very confident in the purchase now!
Saw this green at the dealership and it looks very nice.
Can't Wait to see you put it through your course!
Need to put this up against Bronco Sport Badlands. I’m curious which would win 🥇
Great video and it helped me alot on finally making up my mind on this suburu ! I have a 2door Rubicon and this suburu is not as bulky and way more comfortable than the jeep. I'll keep both
Both is a great 2-car solution.
It's so weird how US wilderness editions only come with that little strip of aluminum under the bumper, but the Canadian versions come with a full proper engine skid, with a rear diff skid too!
Do Canadian Subaru owners off road more than Americans?
@0HOON0 Who knows? My Wilderness Forester has definitely seen its share of dirt sand and mud. I'd guess the volume of sales in Canada is so much lower than the US that it's just more economical for Subaru to equip all Canadian ones the same way instead of worrying about packages or options.
@Qhaway By "proper engine skid", do you mean more heavy duty than the light, tin plates that comes on them in the US?
@jimbrown7261 ruclips.net/video/qTg6JEZOCCY/видео.htmlsi=CX8NfWP5vr9WlXIi
There's a video of the 2 that come stock in Canada. I think you can also order a transmission skid and gas tank skid from Subaru.
I have the 2024 OBW (Canada) and it came with the same piece of plastic/aluminium protection at the front. The dealership told me that the skid plates are officially discontinued for the 2024 models (parts shortage?).
Still a hard call for me to pick the Crosstrek Wilderness or Forester Wilderness...Please keep 'em coming!
The Impreza & Crosstrek use different struts.
I've had my Crosstrek for 6.5 yrs & 90k miles .... and all the shocks & components are fine🤷
Go buy a ford, you don’t deserve a subie
The suspension travel looks pretty good!
If they don't already have a 2.0 turbo offering you can bet that they're going to follow the crowd and offer it. The Compass Trailhawk, The Cherokee Trailhawk, the bronco sport. They have to.
Great show. You had said that “ Subaru hadn’t done what other manufacturers have done. “Taken a existing model and slapped on some all-terrain tires and a badge”. I love to see a head to head of the Subaru against Mini Countryman. On that same off road course ?
Other than the infotainment screen being a major problem update and safety hazard for the driver and vehicle, this Crosstrek Wilderness looks amazing.
6 foot one legs and torso proportionate needs to be on a shirt lol
Love your videos
Yasssss! Driving sports and the coveted crosstreck!!!❤
I’ve been looking for a new vehicle and have been eyeing the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness! Now I’m solid!
Oooohhhh man…..here’s THE TEST we’ve all been waiting for!
OK.
Been looking forward to this vid!
I would love to drive one of these for 6 months. I been weaning on outback, forester or crosstrek wilderness no matter what for a 2nd vehicle
I love your videos! Keep up the great work
Just ordered mine in the alpine green ❤ super excited !
finally! I've been waiting for this!
Can’t wait to see you put the 2024 Outback wilderness to the test!
Would love to see how it stacks up for capability against the forester wilderness
good to see Gregg Turkington back in the driver seat of his own show!
11:37 sick shots
looks awesome. i super regret buying a carolla cross instead of this. yikes. going to try and sell the thing.
good onya mate ! great video. Cheers !
Man. Finally. My favorite Subaru is here. ❤🤘
Awesome review as always
I honestly love small cars. And this particular subaru would be my go to car
Thank you! Waiting on mine to come in!
Awesome video we've been waiting for this for so long! When you say there's no vents to the back seat have you checked under the seat? I'm gonna have my dog back there in 110 f Texas summer I really want to make sure she'll be cool back there, in fact, that's one of the big reasons I'm getting a new car in the first place
