I have been watching videos on how to make a barn quilt. Yours is absolutely the best! You give very clear, step by step instructions. You are the exemplar of the fine Appalachian qualities I so appreciate. You demonstrate resourcefulness, determination, creativity, and perseverance. For examples, the way you decided to make your own rather than buy one ready made or use a kit, the way you used the extra wood to make a shelf, the way you used the reverse side of the board when you needed to begin again, the way you were committed to making the best product you could - even if it required more work. I admire you so much! And may I add that your soft-spoken regional accent is very pleasant to hear. I am recovering from surgery and will be off my feet for a few more weeks, but as soon as I am up, I plan to begin some of these paintings for our sheds. Thank you for taking time to show others how this is done.
Oh my. You have made my heart so full that my eyes are leaking! Thank you so much. I think this one was my first barn quilt and my first video. I just posted Video #87 but I love this one the most. Thank you again for your powerful words of encouragement.
I am a seamstress / quilter and ABSOLUTELY loved your video on how to make a barn quilt! You, my friend, are my kind of people. You showed the right and wrong way to do it and you don't let anything beat you! I will be following along and using your examples to finally make my own barn quilt! I'll let you know when I get mine completed and I will give you the proper acknowledgment in my video when I publish it.
I posted a video several weeks ago called Winter Star. It is very simple yet beautiful. I have one coming up Friday that is simple too. Good luck. You can do it!
Thank you so much. I am excited for you. I have another video where I shared some tips that I learned the hard way. You may want to check it out. Lol . Share a picture when you are finished.
Your Barn Quilt turned out beautiful and I love the Carpenter's Star pattern! I'm a quilter and I've been looking at this pattern for the last couple of months. I've decided to make a sewn quilt using this pattern. But we have a big barn on our property and it's just SCREAMING for a barn quilt! If we make one for our barn, it would have to be at least 4' x 4'. Maybe larger. Wish me luck with that one! Thank you for sharing your video. I loved it.
I made a 4x4 for a lady. It was a bursting star. I think it was actually the last video that I posted. I love barn quilts and I know your quilt will be amazing on your barn. FYI. I actually ruined this one by putting spar urethane on it. I learned the hard way to use Rain Guard water sealer. 🙃
Thanks for posting! I really want to get started making these but dang this is a lot more work than I thought. You have a lot of patience. It looks great!
I'm in the process of making my 1st barn quilt and feeling a little defeated. Your video was a great pick me up of thinking it's just a couple boo-boo and can be fixed! Thanks
You poor baby! As a quilter , I have to encourage you to not get too worried about little mistakes! When the quilt is done and on the bed nobody see the little mistakes! This goes for up on the barn also! Great job! Enjoy!
I just saw your comment. I hope that my next video will help with that. I will spend more time drawing the pattern on the board. Thanks for watching my videos.
I actually ruined it. 😢 after all the work, I asked someone at one of the big box stores what to put on it to seal the paint. The person told me to put Spar Urethane on it and I did. Turned yellow within 15 minutes. Lol. I do my own homework now. I did another video where I remade it. That one went to one of my oldest daughter’s friends.
I love it! I’m in Shelby, NC and found your video. Can you list in your description box what paint you used? That red and blue is beautiful 🇺🇸! Also...did you add anything to the back to help hang it? Thank you!!!
Suzanne Blanton I am so glad you found my channel! I will list the paints that I used tomorrow. Also, I am putting up another video in the next couple days making this same barn quilt. I have figured out a much easier way to draw the pattern.
Hello. I just tried my very first barn quilt and the acrylic paint peeled off. It did not adhere to the wood. I was using Liquitex Basic. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!
I actually ruined that barn quilt because someone at a big box store told me to put Spar Urethane on it. It turned yellow within 10 minutes. But then I found and use Rain Guard Water Sealer. It is Paint Sealer for new and aged painted surfaces. It works wonderful. I kept this first barn quilt to remind me to do my homework. You are way ahead of where I was when I started by knowing to ask. Have fun making yours.
Was the spar urethane you used water based? Or oil? I was told to use the water based one but I cant find it anywhere. I will look into the rain guard. Thanks for all your help. I am having fun making my first barn quilt but there is so much to learn. I guess sometimes trial and error is the best way.
I love listening to your instructions! You are so honest and open and you share your mistakes to help us.

Thank you for your encouragement. I have made about 80 barn quilts since this one and I still worry about those little mistakes. Lol.
Using a dark primer under the dark colors may work better. Your project is beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks.
Good idea.
Beautiful!
Love your videos!
I love your videos, but the one thing I really was hoping you would show is how you drew your pattern out on your board!
I just saw your comment. I hope that my next video will help with that. I will spend more time drawing the pattern on the board. Thanks for watching my videos.
I have uploaded another video paying more attention to drawing the pattern. I am not so sure I had the camera angel just right.
Oh how awesome! You did a perfect job! Where did you put it? Hopefully so a lot of people could see and enjoy it!!!!

Suzanne Blanton I have uploaded a mini tutorial on making the barn quilts and talked about the paint and hanging techniques. Thanks for your comments
Hello. I just tried my very first barn quilt and the acrylic paint peeled off. It did not adhere to the wood. I was using Liquitex Basic. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!
I am sorry. I just saw your message. I do not use acrylic paint for that very reason. It takes patience but I call it therapy painting. Lol
Good job
Thank you.
What did you find to seal it with if its to go outside?
