The fact is that Berry is a KNOWN Asian fetishizer and Asian fisher… She has explained multiple times how much she wishes to be Asian. I think there’s nothing wrong with what she did specifically in that video, it was just a bit cringy, but it’s the fact that she has a history of fetishizing Asians that make it an ick

Just saw the TikToks from the people in her idol community. Absolutely disgusting, and now I’m just so frustrated I gave her the benefit of the doubt 🥲 I do NOT support Asian fetishizers and Asian fishing!

@@amandumbb OMG this reminds me of a girl I know who studied abroad in Japan for a year and was training to be in an idol group. For context, this girl has fantastic Japanese (she sounds Japanese but she’s white af), but she also tries to look Japanese as much as possible with her makeup, hairstyle, fashion, and photo editing. One time someone complimented her by being like 「ええ!?日本語上手ですね!!ハーフですか?」because her Japanese is great, but she took that as they actually thought she looked half Japanese. 💀 And she was bragging about it to everyone. She also uses knowing Japanese as a personality trait.
Going back to the idol thing, she was not good at dancing, and ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE at singing, but she would post it on HelloTalk for attention and it about killed me. She never got into any group by the way (for obvious reasons) but she was so proud that she was a trainee. She also barely had any Japanese friends (for obvious reasons) lmao.
Idk, it’s just so weird when people pull this type of behavior. It’s super privileged to be “picking your race” imo. Many people don’t want to face reality that Japan isn’t perfect either. And the point you made about idol culture being really gross and predatory is a great example. When I lived in Japan most recently, there were so many white people like this and it was really cringey. 😭

tbh i wish that berry never released the apology vid. she didnt do anything wrong so for her just to apologize for nothing basically tells sorbet’s audience that its ok to continue to flame her

Exactly what I‘m thinking. It‘s like she admitted she had done something wrong with that call and response even though there‘s actually nothing wrong with it :( Other idols have used (and will continue to use) Japanese words in their stage names, call and responses, etc. While you could take it as cringy, there‘s nothing ‚wrong‘ or racist about it, in fact, they‘re doing it because they LOVE Japan …

Now learning foreign languages is cultural appropriation. I love how no Japanese people are offended-only while saviors. Jeez. I’m not a fan of the group, but I am not about hating people for trying to follow their dreams. Plus, I think the epitome of cultural appreciation is actually learning a foreign language. This should be applauded as opposed to being hated.

I'm half Japanese, and I don't really find someone learning Japanese as offensive or cringe. it only becomes cringe when they are using it weirdly or exaggeratedly and speaking like they think they are the main character in an anime.

Let these girls be silly, they're not hurting anyone in what their doing and if they do hurt someones feelings you need to grow a pair and relax. I dont think they're trying to be inappropriate, people just need to spread love and stop hating on absolutely everything. I'm a Sorb3t fan, fight me! 😂

From my understanding, they speak Japanese and act Kawaii because its just part of the group band concept which is kinda cringe tbh. And I don't think they deserved to be bullied and doxed for being an idol group with this type of concept or for being cringe. I'm not really part of the demographic of these types of idol groups, even the one from Japan where they act kawaii/childish and stuff. Cuz a fully functioning grown-ass adult talking kawaii/childish is a bit disturbing for me. But I wish for the best for these three ladies.

Love this! Even tho I'm not Japanese, I truly think Berry didn't mean to hurt anyone or try to culturally appropriate Japanese Jpop culture. Even tho having a colored/minority bf isn't an excuse for anyone to try and offend or mock people, again, I truly think she studied her Japanese and she said she kept her call, which her bf helped with, which is, I personally think, adorable. If he's not offended, why should anyone else be? He's Japanese, and he would say something if a lyric or word of the call and response was offensive and probably offer alternatives. He's sort of like a stand in / rep for the majority of Japanese people, so if he doesn't see anything wrong with the group and their projects, then nobody else really should. They also didn't deserve to be doxxed, people are so awful just because they think other who enjoy something and openly show it is cringe.

Honestly, don’t ever let anyone shit on u for making content relevant to ur heritage as a half-Japanese girlie. It’s ur content, do whatever u wanna do!
I’m not Japanese, so I’m not qualified or at liberty to really speak on this mess. Here’s some observations that I was making during ur video:
It’s not the most clear what the group is even expecting to do or the reactions they’re wanting. Like what’s the goal long-term?
I’m not surprised at them at all bc this is typical yt women behavior. Even that apology video was screaming ww behavior (notes app apology talking points, Japanese boyfriend as a prop/crutch card, etc.).
And I don’t think that most of the ppl that are calling them out and doxxing them for all of this stuff are even Japanese- they’re just taking performative allyship too far.

Berry released a solo song in Japanese she’s still going for it. I think being an idol and taking fashion/music inspiration from idols is fine but Japanese as an aesthetic kinda crosses the line imo. I’m sad they got bullied and doxxed tho :(

Being a mixed white/Japanese person I completely understand how it can be frustrating when our culture is misrepresented or fetishized. I've been called "white" by my peers because I'm "white passing". I joined my schools Japanese culture Club and it was also just a bunch of people talking about anime and not actually talking about cultural values and the differences between Japanese and western culture or any of the history. Ive been around so many different people that are so openly racist because they assume I'm white. As far as idol groups go, I feel like yes it's great they're taking their time to learn the language and I appreciate it, but to do this " koreaboo" asainfishing style of talking and body language it's a little off putting

Berry is a bit cringe as is, imo, all "kawaii" talking Japanese adult woman/people are. Nothing else wrong with what she did. She just loves Japanese culture, J & K-Pop stuff. So what? It's appreciation. Yeah, and maybe appropriation, too, but when did that become such a bad thing. Japan appropriated so many thing from America from their music (rock'n'rock, pop music, boy band stuff, jazz etc), fashion, sports, animation ... the lists go on. But back then it was ok?? Berry is not hurting anyone and she is definitely not racist toward Japanese. She didn't have anything to apologize about. I'm pretty sure the ones mostly criticizing her are non-Japanese speaking white people. I'm fairly certain most Japanese people (in Japan, and in western places) don't care. They would either find it cringe because they don't like the genre and kawaii talking, and/or appreciate that Berry likes Japanese things so much.
