I guess what it all boils down to is how much time you want to spend building a Lancaster. When I was a kid I built an Airfix Lancaster in 1 day. I also built a Halifax and Hampden to go along with it and they didn't look that bad. They sat on my dresser for a few years. I also added a Mosquito night fighter but it was in 1/48 scale so it hung from the ceiling. In a million years I would not have the patience or time to build something like this
I think you're right - to be honest on a lot of these large builds I end up getting a bit bored and often put them aside for a while. Sometimes it is nice to have a kit built and finished in a weekend (or even a day) - that's why I've started building some of those more recent smaller aircraft :)
A tip for you when paitning your own symbols instead of using decals: When you had put on the first mask you have to paint first a thin layer of the background colour.. That will prevent "splasches" showing up because this first thin layer will find all micro gaps you didn't see when you put the mask on. Actual this is how professionel paintes do when having a surface that give this kind of trubbels.
It's been an epic build and it has tested your patience at times.....however.....super job and an amazing outcome. Will be looking forward to the final reveal in the near future. Stay well and happy modelling!
That looks great. Love the texture, riveting you've done. Am enjoying the videos, envying the patience, perseverence. Take care, hope you stay healthy. Cheers from Ontario!
Nice!. Being a proud Aussie, I'll be opting for the RAAF "G for George" that is displayed in the Australian War Memorial. Although I might wait to check out the Wingnut Wings kit first.
One trick I do with masking things like decals is to put down about two coats of clear to seal the masking. A very nice job on the kit overall though, it looks really good
Yes I was doing a Porsche racing car and the white backing for the numbers was going over a very curved bit of the body so the decal would not lay flat and it was a pain to get the mask to sit well also. I also think that masks stick better to gloss than matt finishes so like for decals a coat
I'm in the final stages of building this kit and have found your videos really interesting, thanks! I want to spray the large wing roundels too, please would you let me know which colours you used? Overall I think the kit is pretty good - sure it has issues but the finished article still looks amazing!
Thanks for watching, I'm glad it was useful. For the colours, IIRC I took Tamoya XF8 blue and darkened it a little with some grey. For red, XF7 with a tony amount of black. The yellow was straight XF3 I think.
Thx for uploading this & showing the fit issues with the fuselage halves as well as the tightness of the wings...I have to say that this is another area where Trumpeter techs have "failed". Not having to glue the undercarriage is a good bonus for many reasons...event though the plastic is strong its a huge & heavy kit with potential for the undercarriage t bend or snap. As I said before I was thinking about getting this kit in 2019 because I love the Lancaster, but looking at the kit issues as well as the overall cost of the finishing it i made the right decision. If you have the time t post photos of the finished Lanc, would be appreciated!
Cheers Alex. Yeah....this hasn't given me the same enjoyment as some of the other smaller kits I've built recently...it is a bit of a fight to be honest. When it's finished I'll be half pleased that I have a decent looking model, and half pleased I don't have to work on it again.
Good morning, I've just watched part 7 of your Lancaster build and see that you have had a series of masks made by MAKETAR PAINT MASKS. I am building the Border Models 1/32 Lanc and need 2 registration numbers masks cut. Would you be able to give me MAKETAT'S web address please. Thank you Geoff Williams
This has been a really good series. Congratulations on a great result.
Thank you John!

Cheers Robert. I've made a little bit of progress since this video (lockdown is good for something at least).
That looks great. Love the texture, riveting you've done. Am enjoying the videos, envying the patience, perseverence. Take care, hope you stay healthy. Cheers from Ontario!
Thanks Jerry!
That was pretty darn good work!
Thank you!

Yes - I'm very intrigued by the WnW kit, although we haven't seen much since the announcement in December 2018.
Excellent Work!...thanks i picked up some nice tips
Thank you 🙂

Thanks Allan. So you put down the mask, then seal with clear, and then paint the roundel or whatever? Interesting - I'll have to try that some time.

Crackin, love the tip with the elastic band and the pencil 😉👌
Thanks Tim
Wow that’s brilliant 👍👍👍
Thanks Dave.
Thats one beautiful kit !!!!!!!! well done and looking forward to seeing it finished ....great job
Thanks Shaun!
Mind blown by the pencil trick. Will be trying that.
Hehe - glad you liked it :)
Wow. Excellent model. Your next job is to build an extension to your house to display beasts like this!
Haha! You're right. I was looking at the Tamiya 1:32 Mosquito but decided against it for this reason.
What’s your thoughts on the limited edition model with the clear fuselage ?
I'm glad I had the limited edition, even though the interior detail is a bit limited.
@@ModelNerd I’m looking at getting it does it also come with the covered fuselage as well ?
@@ModelNerd I’ve been searching high and low for seven crew to put inside it so far no luck
@@zaynevanday142 Yes, mine came with the solid and the clear parts for both sides, so you can mix and match how you please.
@@ModelNerd I’m torn 50/50 about which ones to use
Messed up the end of that. I was going to say lay down a coat of clear gloss to stick the stencils to.
Ah, got you - thanks Allan
That's how you Free Spray a Roundel ! 1/32 is JUMBO for a Lancaster. Your perseverance paid off. I like it very much. Subbed!
Thanks mate. Yeah, I was very pleased with the way they came out. Couldn't get near that with decals.
What was the name of that cutting tool please
It's a (rotary) circle cutter
Good work. Thanks
Thanks Norman

I believe I contacted them via their website, at shop.maketar.com
First comment! Really nice job, I like your homemade stencils! 👍
Thanks mate - much appreciated!
Holy sh#$t ! How big is that beast
Haha - I am wondering how I'm going to photo the final thing.... It is approximately 1 metre by 70 centimetres :O
@@ModelNerd pff where to put it .. looks nice looking forward for the result 👍
Yes, the "where to put it" question doesn't have an answer yet :)
genius
Thanks Gary
Why, for God sake, have you painted the model before building it?
For the reasons I mentioned in the videos
WAT FÜR'N OSCHI...!!!
