Omigosh thank you for this reaction vid. I really appreciate your appreciation of Highlight's journey - they set such a unique, trailblazing precedence for their juniors to follow. A bit of trivia: When news got out that they were thinking about leaving Cube, they received a lot of interests from other agencies, but decided to venture out on their own. As they were mulling over their options, Dongwoon thought they should take the risk and establish their own agency, but of course he felt a lot of burden: what if they didn't succeed, would they regret it, would they blame him, etc. But like you said, these boys are pros, super committed/dedicated, really responsible - and with so much blood, sweat and tears, they actually moved into a larger building recently (the old JYP building where they used to all be trainees!). And yes, it was Dongwoon who suggested the name Highlight while Yoseop suggested With Us, but the others thought With Us sounded like a convenience store name so...😂 But now their agency has a sub label for trainees (a bg is going to debut really soon) called With Us 🤣 What Yoseop wants, he eventually gets! 😂 Sorry I'm just rambling, you do NOT need to read all this. I just love talking about Highlight and their history...

I’m with you! This was me 3 years ago, and I still keep finding wonderful music and hilarious variety shows I haven’t seen yet. Looking forward to sharing more of your Highlight journey. Thank you for spreading the word about them!
For live performances, have you found the high-quality concert fan videos by Highlight Nunafans yet? The editing is professional quality, and they often record from different parts of the hall so they have different angles to cut to. Their videos of the INTRO concert last Spring confirmed for me what fans said about seeing these guys live - they are at another level with a live audience - energy, VOCALS, interactions with fans, great new arrangements with a live band. Highlight Nunafans has the INTRO concert as a playlist on their channel - really worth checking out. As another international fan who came too late to the fandom to catch Highlight’s last international tour, it was illuminating to find these videos and confirmed my admiration for this incredibly talented group. The INTRO concert was right after Daydream, but they did many of their older hits also. The Day 3 acoustic version of Not the End, singing with their fans 20 songs into the concert, will give you chills.
Of course! I'm officially a Light now and there's no turning back! =)
As for live perfs, yes, we def have heard of the concert fancams by HL Nunafans
We actually take our time learning their music first than pivot over to the live perfs. Live perfs hold a special place in our hearts, and we want to appreciate them more so that's why you haven't seen us watching it on here quite yet. =)

일단 큐브 엔터테인먼트는 전 대표 Hong이 JYP에서 나와 만든 소속사입니다. 그렇기 때문에 JYP의 연습생이었던 사람들이 많습니다.
먼저 4minute의 현아는 Wonder girls (지금은 해체하였습니다.) 의 멤버였으나, 건강 문제로 탈퇴하였고 그 후 4minute 으로 데뷔했습니다. 현아는 15살에 데뷔했습니다.
그리고 기광은 JYP의 연습생이었습니다. Hong이 큐브 엔터테인먼트를 설립하게 되어 JYP를 나오면서, 함께 데려온 연습생이 기광입니다. 즉, 기광은 큐브의 첫 번째 연습생입니다.
두준은 영상에 나온 대로 2PM과 2AM을 만들기 위한 서바이벌 예능에 나왔습니다. 그리고 파이널 전에 탈락했습니다. 그는 JYP에서 진행한 제 1차 공채 오디션에서 3번째로 좋은 성적에 합격하였습니다. (두준은 중학생 때까지 축구선수였고, 부상으로 인해 선수를 그만두었습니다. 부상으로 인해 그만두게 되어 두준은 어린 나이에 절망했습니다. 그러나 빅뱅 서바이벌 프로그램(현승이 참여한 그 프로그램)을 보고 아이돌(가수)가 하고 싶었음을 떠올립니다. 그후 준비 없이 곧바로 JYP 오디션에 응시했습니다.)
요섭은 여러 소속사를 돌아다녔습니다. 요섭 또한 JYP의 연습생이었습니다. 그러나 어릴 적 귀여운 이미지 때문에 요섭은 소속사에서 많이 퇴출되었습니다. (그때는 2PM이나 빅뱅처럼 강렬한 이미지의 아이돌들이 유행했기 때문입니다.) 아이돌을 포기하려던 때에, JYP에서 함께 연습했던 기광에게 연락이 왔습니다. 큐브 엔터테인먼트에서 보이 그룹을 준비하고 있는데 같이 해보지 않겠냐는 제안이었습니다. 그렇게 그는 큐브 엔터테인먼트 연습생이 되었고, 비스트로 데뷔하였습니다. (기광과 요섭은 중학교와 고등학교 동창입니다.)
동운은 비스트로 데뷔 전 큐브 엔터테인먼트에 마지막으로 합류한 연습생입니다. 그 또한 JYP의 연습생이었습니다.
하이라이트의 네 멤버는 즉, JYP에 있을 때부터 친구였습니다.

또한, 2019년에 대한 이야기를 해보자면 ...
그때는 팬들에게도, 멤버들에게도 너무나도 힘든 시기였습니다.
2018년에 있었던 리더 두준의 갑작스러운 입대가 있었고, 멤버들은 그때 자신들이 두준에게 얼마나 의지하고 있었는지를 깨달았다고 합니다. 비록 동운을 제외한 모든 멤버가 같은 나이였지만, 그들에게 두준은 커다란 존재였습니다.
(두준의 입대는 입대 3일 전에 알려졌고, 두준은 촬영 중이던 드라마를 포기하고 입대해야만 했습니다. 이유는 복잡합니다. 1989년생인 두준은 당시 29세였고, 한국은 29세까지 병역 의무를 연기할 수 있습니다. 무조건 29살까지는 입대를 해야만 합니다. 두준은 요섭과 함께 의경에 지원했지만, 두준만 탈락했습니다. 그 결과가 나오고, 입대를 더 미룰 수 없었던 두준은 갑작스럽게 입대 통보를 받았습니다.)
군대에 가기 전, 팬들을 위한 마지막 콘서트 를 준비했던 하이라이트는 결국 두준 없이 콘서트를 진행해야 했습니다. 그 현장에서 팬들도, 멤버들도 많이 울었습니다. 두준의 부분은 멤버들이 대신 부르는 것이 아니라, 두준의 녹음된 목소리가 나오도록 했습니다. 특히 라는 노래가 진행되었을 때, 그 노래는 두준의 파트로 시작되기 때문에 동운은 두준의 목소리를 듣자마자 울음을 터트렸습니다. 두준 파트의 가사 내용이 "그래, 맞아. 나 지금 네가 그리워." 이기 때문에 두준을 그리워 하는 멤버들과 팬들을 울렸습니다.
모든 멤버들이 콘서트를 하면서 자신의 소감을 이야기할 때 울곤 하지만, 기광은 그때까지 거의 운 적이 없습니다. 하지만 그 콘서트에서 처음으로 기광은 팬들 앞에서 울었습니다. 두준의 이야기를 꺼내면서 너무 힘들어했습니다. 저는 outro 콘서트의 영상을 보면 아직까지도 울곤 합니다.
콘서트가 끝나고 멤버들의 입대가 이어집니다. 요섭이 먼저 1월에 입대를 하고, 3월에 준형의 사건이 일어납니다. 두준과 요섭이 입대한 상황에서 팬들은 혼란을 겪어야 했습니다. 10년을 사랑해온 멤버가 그런 일에 동참했다는 것을 알았을 때의 절망감은 말로 표현할 수 없습니다. 준형의 탈퇴 후, 기광과 동운이 차례로 각각 4월, 5월에 입대를 합니다.
멤버들도 팬들과 같은 생각을 했다고 합니다. "과연 하이라이트가 제대한 이후 다시 활동을 할 수 있을까?"
하지만 팬들은 계속 그 자리에서 멤버들을 기다렸고, 멤버들 또한 지친 팬들에게 확신을 주었습니다. 군대에서 주기적으로 Light들에게 편지를 써서 올렸습니다.
다른 그룹 멤버들은 입대할 때 편지를 올리고, 그후 간간히 소속사를 통해 소식을 전합니다. 그러나 하이라이트는 달랐습니다.
두준은 5번, 요섭은 13번, 기광은 18번, 동운은 11번이나 손으로 쓴 편지를 올렸습니다. 그래서 팬들은 안심할 수 있었습니다.
흔히 아이돌들을 좋아하는 것은, 팬들의 기나긴 짝사랑과 비슷하다고 합니다. 하지만 하이라이트는 늘 그들이 팬들을 얼마나 사랑하는지 얘기해줍니다.
2010년부터 약 14년동안 하이라이트를 응원하면서 한 번도 후회한 적이 없습니다. 여담으로 제가 초등학생 때, 비스트에 빠지게 해준 친구에게 고맙다고 하고 싶습니다. 이름도 얼굴도 기억이 나지 않지만요 XD !!
오랜만에 힘들었던 때를 떠올리니 댓글이 길어졌습니다만, 제 이야기들이 잘 전달되었으면 좋겠습니다.
와! 나는 당신이 나에게 쓴 모든 단어를 꽤 정직하게 읽는 것을 좋아했습니다. 당신이 오랫동안 비스트/하이라이트의 팬이어서 너무 좋았어요!!! 당신을 팬으로 둔 남자들은 정말 운이 좋습니다. '비스트'에서 '하이라이트'로 전환하거나 입대할 때도 쉽게 떠날 수 있었던 팬들이 있는데 기다려주셨잖아요. 남자분들이 이 댓글을 보시면 좋을 것 같아요. 그것들에 대해 배우고 있는 저 같은 사람도 당신의 진심 어린 반응을 느낄 수 있었습니다. 당신은 확실히 그들의 이야기를 나에게 잘 전달했고, 나는 정말 감사합니다.

Wow! I loved reading every single word that you've written to me quite honestly. I loved that you have been a fan of BEAST/HIGHLIGHT for so long!!! The guys are so lucky to have you as a fan. There are some fans that could have easily left when they transitioned from Beast to Highlight or even left them during enlistment but you waited for them. I wish the guys could see this comment. Even someone like me who is learning about them could feel your heartfelt response. You certainly delivered their story very well to me, and I am so grateful.

I have to say that they endured so much hardships, and I am so glad that they continued to be impactful in the music industry. They understand the music industry. They have been in it for such a long time.
It gives me much peace, knowing the fact that they started their own agency (which is SO HARD by the way), and you know that they will never mistreat any of the bands that they will debut. I can't wait to see The Wind and their growth, and I can't wait to see how Highlight have cultivated this new band.

7:17 Mystery is in the same album as B2st is the Best with the title track, Bad Girl.
It's just that Mystery became more famous because of the choreo and it was played in High Kick 2, a famous sitcom where Gikwang is a cast, so they promoted it too in music shows. The skateboard music video for Mystery is their gift for their fans and was released during their Beautiful Show (2012?) concert. 😊

If I remember well it was Dongwoon who have the idea to use Highlight. Beast was not SEO friendly either to be totally honest 😂 still it world have been nice If they'd kept the name though they wanted to come back to their fans as fast as possible so just ditched the name instead of going the Shinhwa route.
It's definitely impressive they managed to create a new company and keep it afloat despite having been away on military service for 4 out of the 6 years (and just moved to a bigger building and debuting their first group as well!!). And a lot of their supporting staff at Cube quit and followed them to their new company too, just tells you how everybody (Lights included) just believed if someone can do it as a group it's them. Starting and continually managing a company, being responsible for their staff and trainees etc is pretty heavy but they are so matter of fact and cool about it, I really respect them for that.

Aaahhh I can see “Beast” as a non-friendly SEO. I tried searching for HL initially and got all sorts of sports highlight clips 🤣🤣🤣

@@LaChiMoLaLaOT7 to be fair the struggles of remembering all the facts about a group when multi stanning is real 😄 especially when it's only been what, a month or two 😂 you already remember quite a lot it will come with time.
Even with "HL kpop" a lot of album highlights of other artists pop up 💀 and of course in Korean it's the same because they use hanglish for sports/drama/news highlights. Sometimes I wonder if they want to be found lol. And their new group "The Wind" already doesn't look too SEO friendly in English either 😭😂
Yes a lot of their staff followed them! Including their stylist, pretty sure that's why the outfits are always on point 💕
Lights are always excited to see what styling they've chosen, impressive feat for having worked with the same group for like 10+ years without losing any edge tbh.
