    This week, we visit a 3-room HDB rebuild in Punggol. Homeowner Johan was particular about the layout of his home and specifically chose this because it was on a high floor and a corner unit. It’s a 3-room resale HDB that’s at 753 square feet in size, and he spent a total of $65k for the renovation, and about $25k on furnishing and accessories.
    Because the bomb shelter was by the entrance, he had it covered with fluted panels. He also had a seating area next to his shoe cabinet, for easy convenience when going in and out of the house. Johan also does a look of baking, so he customised the kitchen according to his needs. He opted to go for a small stove so that he had more worktop space for prep, and a kitchen island in the middle. For practical purposes, he went with quartz countertops as well as they are more lasting.
    For his dining area, he chose a unique retractable dining table that can be extended up to 2m when his family comes around and put away when he is dining alone.
    For the rooms, he has a “walk-in” common room, and chose not to hack the entire wall but install a black glass door instead that connects to his bedroom.
    Special thanks to Johan for showing us around his sleek bachelor pad!

    Designs wise, very sleek, love the look.
    However, as an owner with dark colour reno done to my own place, here's an advice to other owners looking to do the same. So they won't make the same mistake as me.
    Avoid overusing dark colours at your place. It makes the place look smaller and the cleaning will be a hassle as the dust are more obvious. So have a good mixture of light colours!

    design and space usage is very well thought and functional at the same time out so kudos to the designer/owner. What I am curious is, for WFH or cooking/baking, is there another set of lighting used or the light intensity is turned up? It looks really quite dark in the day and it dosent look like there are separate spot lightings. Also, as a homeowner and after seeing many homes, I tend to notice that the lighter coloured homes tend to look better in the day with natural light (but will not be as cosy or warm looking at night), but darker colour homes tend to look better at night (with typically better mood/spot lighting already installed) so it is really up to individual preferences.

      @BalrajSidhuasr 2 года назад +1

      I can say with confidence that he went for the darker tones. Subdued, industrial, minimal. There is nothing in the house that speaks of contrasts. The only differentiating factor has been the surfaces reacting with ambient lights & little bit of natural light. It feels like he didn't want the natural light to alter the mood of the space. Most of the lights are also warm, so yeah, I think he went with the darker ones.

      I dont think so, he has at least 2 ceiling fans in the open floor space if you notice. Its those larger condo/hdb units with not much cross ventilation and no ceiling fans installed that have the issue that you mentioned. New condos in particular have a very long /narrow layout and cross ventilation is terrible/non-existent.

      Hi, Energy saving was definitely my main concern when i got the flat. To make matters worse, i am very very reliant on the AC unit..1. cuz i hate the heat, 2. I need the AC when i do cakes. Anyway, i try my best to get energy-saving lights,appliances etc. And since i am living alone, I dont really need a lot of lights to be on. I also practice removing the plugs of all appliances out from the socket once not needed as “ghost electricity” is real. I got an 18K BTU unit for my hall, and when it is on at 25degs at high speed, It is still cooling the hall effectively vs a smaller BTU unit but turning it on at say 18degs at high speed which cost more to run. So basiclally, i try to save here n there…
