Daggone CA was trying to figure out where i knew you from, from back in the good ole days saturday morning tv. So glad i found you on the tube. Your class is phenomenal, love every minute. You are a consumate professional. You were put on this planet to get people stoked on fishing. Putting my time in down south pine island/sanibel this winter again, gotta work, but fish every free second i get. Thanks for all your help. Its truly appreciated.
Fitzgeralds building is just a few miles from me. Very small shop for being as big as they are. Thought about asking them to take a tour of they're facility.
I was having problems with setting the hook with Texas Eye jigs and stuff like that. It was losing fish. I went and got the 7' medium power fast action Ugly Stik Inshore Carbon and the problem is solved. So I got the lighter and heavier versions of those rods and between the 3 I'm all set. The light one is great with exposed jigs and the heavy one is awesome for popping corks and heavier jigs. I wish they had a 7'6" version. I'm not familiar with Fitzgerald rods, but the TFO's from the Salt Strong guys is pretty tempting.
@@robdishjr4912 which one? Salt Strong has a line called Professional that are around $100 I think. A 7'6" medium power fast action would be awesome I think, but I've never had a 7'6"
@comfortablynumb9342 that's the one I have the tfo pro. Keep in mind shipping on their rods is like 30 bucks so with tax your closer to 140. I dint use it anymore than my penn squadrons or my ugly stick inshore carbons. I love that rod. I'm short so I dint use anything over 7 unless I'm dock or pier fishing ill use a 7 6 for the added height.
@@robdishjr4912 Cool. I love those blue Ugly Stik Inshore Carbon rods too. I was using composite Ugly Stiks and they're fine for bait, and I'd use them for trolling, but I use a lot of jigs and soft plastics, and those composite rods are too heavy and not sensitive enough. The graphite ones solved a lot of issues for me and they're pretty affordable, right here in town at a locally owned shop. I'd like a longer rod for the piers and also for my kayak. And I need to get one of the Inshore Carbon rods for my Penn Squall baitcaster.
@comfortablynumb9342 yea man trust me my old man has always used ugly stick. From his small rods to his surf rods he loves them. Honestly for price if your bait fishing u can't beat them. Issue with them when fishing soft plastics or artificial is the moderate action. It's too slow to really stick a fish unless they pretty much do it themselves. I stay with fast action for plastics and stuff for the most part. I use alot of penn stuff. It's way heavier then like shimano and diawa but it's what iv always grew up using and it's what I'm used to. U can't beat their shit up it's just constantly runs. I have 2 medium set ups with 3000 reels rated for 1/4 to 1oz lures. 2 light medium with 2500 and 2000 size reels rated for 1/8 to 5/8 then and one for 1/16th to 5/8th. Those are just fir smaller stuff. For each I have one set up with a jighead. Other is with a weed less deals. I use jig heads anytime I can better hook up ratio for me atleast. But u gotta find what you like man. That's the biggest thing
So Im a big bass fisherman but I’ve lived on the texas coast ever since I was born, but now that I’ve got my own boat and truck I’ve developed a more want to saltwater fish and been wanting to apply my bass fishing techniques to redfish and trout so would a typical bass casting/dragging jig work for trout and reds
CA, What spec rod would you suggest for throwing 1/4 - 1/2 oz lead + soft plastic for a soft mouth fish like weakfish? Wish Zman made the trout eye in a few more heavier sizes. Light gauge seems perfect but heavier weight is needed to get the ledges and current they usually are in unlike their speckle cousins.
Depending on application I prefer a MH/MF for larger topwater plugs and suspenders and a MH/F for heavier wire hook jigs on the casting rods. Fitzgerald Rods makes some good ones in their All-Purpose Series
Good evening C A, is a 7 6 mh fast is that overkill for trout and redfish. By the way great videos and great teacher I can you love what do .Thank you sir
Great Video Professor CA! I am a huge fan of the jigs but been experimenting with more treble hook lures this fall than in the past. Lures such as the mirrolure heavy dine. I find I am losing lots more fish on treble hooks than when using a single hook setup. Would you attribute this to the same type of issues you described with a mismatch in the rod and reel?
I just picked up my 2nd NRX+ Inshore 842s! I loved the 841 so much had to get another in medium. I highly recommend the new NRX+ Inshore just like in your video. They are amazing. Got mine on sale from a Black Friday sale😊
@@flatsclasscharters I’ll have to check them out when I can. It’s tough to find shops in SWFL that carries them.. I just got a great deal on Black Friday. A Curado K 200XG and a Falcon Clearwater SWC-7M for about $230 out the door!

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement
I love that hat C.A. Richardson
Thank you Capt.. Almost exactly the discussion we had Monday. This was very informative and laid out simply.
Glad you enjoyed it!
CA, just so you know - a 3" Minnowz weighs about 5.25 grams. So with an 1/8oz head you're closer to 3/8. And those 5" Diezels weigh 12g!
Thanks for the valuable intel! I need a more accurate scale
Awesome video...i build rods and you couldn't have explained this any better..you are one hell of a teacher..pay attention 💯A+++thankyou.God bless 🙏
Thank you Michael… we try to dial things in for our subscribers

Trevor and his team are very good people and have a great knowledge of rod building and purpose!
Love all the videos C.A. 👍
What rod would you choose for reds. Using 1/8-1/4 oz medium wire jig heads in a baitcaster. Thanks enjoy all your videos
Definitely want a Med/Fast rod for those types of jigs… 7’-7’6” in length

Likely you’ll need a MH/Mod Fast tip if the jig head wire isn’t too thick… or jump up to a MH/Fast and utilize a slippery drag setting
Great video cap! How about a medium heavy casting rod for redfish? I also prefer casting gear.

Good Information!!!
I use all medium I fill sometimes it's going to break
Medium/ Moderate Fast is soft but perfect for small treble hook lures. Try Medium/Extra Fast it should be much more crisp in the entire blank.
Take me fishing one time!

Often it is the same issues… I have some new videos coming that will help explain this clearly
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it and look forward to the future video you mentioned.
Are you using Fitzgerald rods now? They seem great!
Jake- I am they are designed to toss artificial lures!

😂 you will def lose that fish if your rod is not stiff enough.
