I refreshed the HRR homepage a hundred times on Friday to see the results - shit, I hoped you'll make it. Incredible how professional you take it, I would be devastated. On the flip side-I was on the water today after a 1.5 year break due to job-no job-search job-prep to move-new job-move&family. Toxic combi, at least for sports. Heads up mate!
I would like to say thank you for this vlog in total. It's so inspiring for me to see how you follow a plan, stay motivated (even if you do not reach the 100% or if something unexpected happens) and be positive about the upcoming future things. I also like the surroundings of the rowing sport. For me rowing is a hobby (with really small goals), and with this channel I can see so many details I was not expecting to see. I can tell you that I've been following this channel for years now and I'm excited about the things you did/will do and looking forward to what comes next. Many thanks for the effort you spend on this vlog.👍
Looked good--so sorry about the result, but you've inspired and will continue to inspire: I've been teaching on line thru covid, lost both parents last year; Cam, I'm an old guy that's had a tough couple of years(like so many), and it's been a real joy for me to watch the adventures of a younger guy with a really big engine, and a great attitude, crank out the meters in pursuit of excellence at a very high level. Pleasurable hours on my erg watching, and I'm sure there are many others that feel the same way. Many thanks!
Well said! Condolences on the loss of your parents. Kudos for teaching online thru COVID! Mostly I wanted to say you’re right at least in this one case…Cam is inspiring as I train on my own at home and is a joy 🤩 And you are as well by the simple act of sharing! Wishing you and all of us continued perseverance! 🙌
As you came from pretty much 0 sculling experience to some of the experience/ results you've had since you made the 'transition' i think you can only be proud, mostly 8's experience from novice level to being competitive at any level of senior sculling in such a short time span is nothing but inspiring
Hey Cam, I have been watching you for 2-3 years now and I wanted to thank you for your positivity in all your ups and downs on this journey. I was upset to see you didn’t qualify but the way you handled it is really inspirational. Thank you.
I have been loving the frequency of the videos recently, I'm looking forward to the next episode, whenever that may be. Also, you've had an impressive progression in the single. You consistently look like you row better in a video than you did in the previous one! Congrats!
I really like your perspective of focusing on the process, rather than simply the outcome. Anything you do from that perspective is inspiring to watch. Thank you for all the reports from your trip. I'm looking forward to seeing your next adventures!
Dont give up Cam! Keep pushing through and breaking personal boundaries. You will always remain a champion. Your achievements are spectacular and help motivate the younger generation to do something spectacular. God bless you and keep you safe all ways.
It was great to watch you compete in person and in such a competitive event. Your channel has made rowing more accessible and easy to digest for a beginner like myself. Great work
Keep your head up, its been a difficult past week for you with the boats and no doubt this race may have affectd you.. No matter what, the Yamsquad is still cheering you on! Great season and progress anyhow with the Marlow regatta and French Nationals, not mentioning the other races you kicked butt in! God bless.
Keep trying, Cam! You're getting close to the top sculling group - just give it another year of intense focus. I'll keep following you as long as you want to continue. Keep well, Dave.
Shame you didn't qualify but it's nice to hear you talking about how much you have grown and developed as a sculler. Enjoy your summer and will look forward to seeing you in the build up to next season #yamsquad
Really felt for you Cam after all you’ve been through although on the positive side it was good to see the nerves still kicking in and yes looking relaxed to remain on the up with what you have done plus thinking ahead. There’s always Stourport Regatta and Sprint which is much more chilled than HRR so do drop by (I’ll pay for your seat). Head up mate and move on to the next challenge - remember, variation is the spice of life! 😎
Hey man getting to race the qualifier and hang out in the boat tent at HRR is one of the coolest things you can do in the sport, and diamond sculls consistently gets the fastest competitors in the world so a lot to be proud of there Cam! I lost on day 1 in 2015 and 7 years later I think about my short time at Henley on the Thames all the time. Anyways, HOCR training starts now! (Fingers crossed your making the trek across the pond!)
@@CameronBuchan i would love i you did. my boathouse is right near the finish and I would love to watch you row by and cheer you on to the finish. It’s also such an awesome environment and fun to race
HI Cam. I check every day for your videos but nothing for quite a while now. Wondering if you are continuing? Hope so but no pressure! All the best from Australia. Hope to hear more from you, even occasionally, again.
@@CameronBuchan Thanks Cam. I have signed up to Instagram! Looking forward to further posts. Hope your rowing career continues to progress in the direction you want.
One day you're going to win the Diamond Challenge Sculls. Its a matter of time! Your passion, focus, and determination will get you there! You deserve a break and look forward to future episodes.
I agree. I've always felt held back by my technique. It's by no means great now, but a big improvement that hopefully will pay dividends down the line!
Well done dude. Not easy for the Diamonds, I know the feeling of not qualifying after my attempt in 2019. Anyway, good luck with it next year as I’m sure you will get there 🙂
It was a great season Cam! Will you have a video on staying in shape and recovering from overuse issues during the break? Variation is the key. Do you use the SkiErg or some other equipment that is not the rowing erg or the bike?
Thanks Peter! No videos during the time off planned! Will probably talk about those subjects when I'm back though! I'll be doing a good portion of alternative exercise but as always rowing is a rowing sport!
Hard luck there Cam. You were looking good and your technique has come on significantly over the past 9 months. Will you stick around HRR for a few days or will you just need to get outta there?
Thanks for noticing! I should be sticking around but don't think for the whole regatta. I'm thinking of getting a little meet up going! I'll post on my Instagram if I do set it up
Hey Cameron, Great video! I was wondering, could you make a video or reply to this comment describing the grip placement of the inside hand when sweeping? I have seen lots of variation among the pros in their placement of hand, whether it’s almost next to their outside hand or off the end of the grip, and so I wonder, what do you do and why?
Sorry to see that it was not possible to qualify for the Diamonds this year, but the standard is so high now that international scullers are travelling over here again. It's still been a great summer of sculling, hasn't it? I thought the comparison of ergo scores with Martin and Valent was especially interesting---they are not much faster than you according to the power figures, so where are they finding their speed? Something you haven't talked about much in your videos is what sort of performance data you collect in the boat. I remember back in the day there was a discussion of the sensor pack in GoPro cameras, looks like the Hero 5 Black has a 200Hz accelerometer that records data in the video track. Do you use any of this data, particularly the fore-aft axis acceleration? Could be some clues in there as to where to find more pace.
For sure. Been a great season and really enjoyed it! Well one thing would be I'm not in PB shape and another over my travels this past few months pretty much all of the fastest guys in the single have "slow" 2ks. For me though, still a lot of basic technical work to do which I had improved on significantly lately but a long way to go! Combine that with getting bakc to PB shape and should be a good combo!
Hey cam! Any tips for mounting a camera to the back of my 1x? Suction cup, extra safety line in case it goes swimming etc? Your commentary on enjoying the process is great motivation for my journey.
Thanks cam! It worked great..now if only I had the battery fully charged and got more than me just paddling out but that was enough to see even a recco for a foot stretcher change. I am now fully use to the comp blades as well. Quick and light in the hands which is great for me since I’m getting old.
@@neilfleishman6675 ah I didn't even think of that. I use a remote to turn the camera on and off during the session! Good to hear you're enjoying the comps!

Martino Goretti won Gold at last World Champs. You have committed your life to getting the best results ... why not test out foils that are proving their worth. Get in touch with Aram Lemmerer.
Definitely not opposed to trying them. My biggest point was that a lot of my speed was to be gained from very basic technical changes. This is still the case but a big step has been made so beginning to try things outside of those changes!
@@CameronBuchan thanks for replying Cameron. we can arrange a trial with you. Good design should makes technique easier and reducing the time to achieve optimal performance. So much of your power is being lost due to standard equipment design regardless of your technique. We can get you that speed.
I disliked the video, hahaha! I liked it till you said "end of season". End of season? Cam! Nooooo! No end of season, please! I hate the end of season videos. Then there are no videos for a while, and it's terrible!
