I have a Nissan Pathfinder 4WD SL 2017 and I am very happy with it for the last two years. I especially like the comfort and stability that Pathfinder offers at high speeds. I think Nissan has designed an amazing vehicle.
No lift, no low range, no locker, no underbody plating... No deal
Plus a STINKING CVT. 😁
Not to mention, the subpar handling, bad reliability and cheap interior. To add insult to injury, it costs just as much as it's competition, all of which offer better interiors, handle better and are more reliable.
Considering how low the Pathfinder already is, it boggles my mind how they would not add underbody plating.. If you offroad in this how it is, first root or any bump you hit will hit the oil pan.
Oh wait - this is also known as the Mallfinder?
@@knowbodiesfull5768 I'd call it the Mechanicfinder if you ask me.
I preferred the old pathfinder, it was also available with the V8 ! Now is a soccer mom car.
Same with the 4Runner!
I agree. There are no real suv's anymore. They all are crossovers. I test drove one it was nice but compared to my trailblazer it wasn't ruff enough. Id like to see a little more ground clearance and decently more touqe for towing.
Gregor Miller, by that you mean the V8 right? Because the 4 Runner is a very off-road capable body on frame SUV.
@@matty_o..I thought it was a truck frame, but what do I know.
Yeah, this "Pathfinder" is no longer capable of finding a path, nor capable of taking that path, unless its paved. :(
I agree with you! I much prefer the old Pathfinder body on frame design.
The 2019 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition is the most rugged looking mini van on the market.
HAHAHAHA
🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Bs
It’s an suv…..¿
This is a good car CVT gives good milage and it’s awesome driving and has smooth drive . The old one was more off road but lack the smooth drive . This is good on milage and nice seats . Overall it’s a package that everyone loves it family and power . 6000 lbs for boat or anything large you want to pull.
Bring back the old xterra just remake it
Why?? No one bought it.
They got rid of it because it had poor mileage and some other problems
Had poor sales and naturally nissan gave up on updates, ie:frontier. Look at TFL xterra reviews. They ran out of things to discuss about it by the 3rd review over several years.
Ya Boi CJ
Poor mileage on paper. In real world it’s very similar to the competition. And what problems?
Yeah just bring back the Xterra to compete with the 4Runner. The old Xterra had poor sales because Nisan neglected to give it updates. Same reason the Frontier are selling low. But with the skyrocketing prices, they are good alternatives for actual off-roading.
Ok they just slapped a "rock creek" badge on it said it was the off road edition with no real off road capability. You can not have an off road suv with a donut spare (4:23) along with the low ground clearance. Bring back body on frame xterra.
NorCal Explorer You can easily have a unibody offroad, just look at the R50. The R52 is an absolute disgrace to the pathfinder name.
Having owned 2012 pathfinder and now a 2019 rock creek pathfinder I can say obviously not the same vehicle as before. But I will say for practically having kids and needing a third row suv it has all the check marks. Fuel efficiency, practicality like being able to access third row with the car seats in place is huge. Being able to adjust second row seating for third row occupants, they thought of a lot. It looks nice feels good going down the road. Happy with the purchase. I would never tow 6k with any cvt. For towing I will stick to my titan xd. Good alternative for people who don’t want a minivan. And want something that is good for everyday commute and can get through light snow.
Nissan CVT - bad
That new green color - GOOD.
@@TheLouke ... they're not. You are literally the only person I've ever heard say that.
Garbage CVT transmission... speaking from my own experience, Our Pathfinder purchased new is only 2 years old with 26K miles and is at the dealership for CVT replacement. Never towed anything, and all highway miles..wonder how long before it goes up on the Murano loaner they provided.
Im lucky then, my 2017 has 50k and works great. I do want to do a transmission oil.change , just in case
I don't have any issues with my 09 Altima, but my wife's 14 Pathfinder is crap.
I would be hesitant to trailer any real weight with a CVT transmission, especially in slow stop and go driving.
Especially when the CVT is known for failing...
I have one and it pulls my jet skis better than a half ton. Not saying it’s perfect but I accept some of its traits for cost, I think it’s a value buy.
@@livingdlife4076 🏇💩.
@@dchawk81 I will agree with you, especially since the CVT in the Mechanicfinder can't even handle itself.
I think the pathfinder cvt is chain driven not belt. Thats why it can tow so much , 6000 lbs . The murano has a belt driven cvt and that's why it can tow only 2000 lbs
Or if you want a real off roader just get a 4Runner, tried and true.
@I know you are right, And I just got owned but: You really think the Mallfinder won't break down? LMAO. I laugh everytime somebody calls this POS reliable because it's not.
@@kingpin3919 If anything, it's the Mechanicfinder. Seriously, who in the right mind would buy this over a 4runner or any other competitor for that matter?
@@moviesmetalmusicmotorvehic4828 he would rather buy this over a 4 runner
lol.. 4Runners and Landcruisers are literally the most reliable vehicles on the road, someone's upset he can't afford one 🤔
@@Romans_Toupee Guess so. Either that or he's a total Nissan fanboy.
An offroad-wanna be car that locks its CVT on neutral when going up a small hill to protect the transmission.
No thanks, Bring back the old pathfinder.
As a self proclaimed Nissan guy, dont buy one with a cvt. They're junk.
The Nissan Outback!
But the Outback is a much better vehicle, has a better CVT and better interior than the Mallfinder. More importantly, it's a better buy.
MetalAndMotorsGuy506 Well Subarus tend to have better resale value and they own the market if you live anywhere from the sunbelt northward. The farther north you go the more you see on the road. In the south WRXs are very hot along with Foresters.. I live near the coast and someone either owns or knows someone who owns a WRX or STI.
It would compete more with the Ascent. The outback is smaller and significantly less expensive.
@@johnfarel3152 Yeah that and the Ascent is a much better and more reliable vehicle than the Mechanicfinder.
@@EricFortuneJr. Subaru's all-wheel-drive system isn't even that capable Mitsubishi s-awc is a way better system along with the Kia system because you can actually lock the coupling what you can't do in the Subaru
Can Nissan make their vehicles reliable ? No Renault needs to leave with their junk quality
A Renault station wagon with a marketing angle. Kick out the French, make Nissan Nissan again and just sell the patrol. The pathfinder is ruined.
Renault has ruined Nissan as a company big time. Nissans reliability has gone down hill and the design team on all vehicles needs to be fired!!!
Can’t be more agree with you.
Isn’t the CEO in prison now? Good start! No Renault! No CVT!
Renault actually helped Nissan from going bankrupt Nissan is now selling the most vehicles of any automotive brand worldwide
Renault's are actually reliable, especially those from the 90s (Laguna 1, Clio Williams, Espace 3)! Don't underestimate Renault! It's Nissan's own fault, that they went worse, because their CVT's (made by Jatco a.k.a Nissan's daughter company) are shit, and Renault uses a dual-clutch transmission called "EDC"! Peace out to all the one, who blames Renault for Nissan's downfall lol!
@@dinohermann1887 that's not necessarily true because Mitsubishi has been using Jatco CVT transmissions for over 10years and their vehicles are reliable... I had a 2011 lancer with 145k Miles on it with no problems
“Rock Creek” means you can throw rocks into a creek to kill time while waiting for a tow truck after the CVT blows up.
Some dealer isn't going to tell a buyer the "silver thing under the bumper" is not a skid plate, they'll take this "rock creek" off road, and they'll damage the undercarriage thinking they'd have protection. Lawsuit.
I don't like manufacturers doing crap like this.
Mini van based SUV, ready for that shopping adventure to the factory outlets at Lake George NY
Actually the Pathfinder is based off the Maxima
@@byronrideaux interesting, I didn't know that.
Thanks for sharing
@@abbaby555 but if by mini van you meant the Nissan Quest, that's was also based of the Maxima
So sad
Ok. Why would you need a rugged off-road version in FWD?! This version should only be 4WD. They should’ve gave it a 2 inch lift and a bump in power. 300-350hp IMO.
I've really got to stop complaining about the death of the station wagon. Clark Griswold would be proud to own this Nissan.
I know its not an off-road vehicle but I really like the Rock Creek look
I totally miss the Xterra Pro4X
LSanti looks like The bronco 4 Door is the only way to go or a Toyota now
Mike, this is a great 👍 overview. Video editing, background music level and your review top notch! TFL is the best.
Thanks for the video Mike! Pathfinder went from all around capable vehicle, to this soccer mom mall crawling brunch mobile.
What's worse is that it even sucks at being a family vehicle. I mean, the reliability is subpar, so are the interior materials and it's handling. So yeah, who in the right mind would buy this over it's competitors? I ask why people buy this vehicle in the first place but then I'd have to ask why this generation Pathfinder even exists in the first place.
How boring, Nissan needs to bring back the Pathfinder from the 80’s
If I start looking at the 80's as the good old days, i hope i die.
Well if capable, reliable and affordable makes you want to die, maybe you should look into that....
@@josephwhiskeybeale ...will do...
Great review and very detail tour of the vehicle...
We’ve got a 2015, sv trim. No complaints here. Has 50k on the clock. Plan on keeping it for a while
I had 2015 SL Pathfinder and the interior was very ergonomically laid out. The 2nd row seat function was very nice and worked well with 2 child's car seats. But around 27k miles I noticed that the transmission slipped/delayed a few times when I had to accelerate at a high speed (example: 55mph to 65mph). We out grew the Pathfinder and the lease was up so we got a 2018 Armada.
Just bought a 2020 sl RC. Good ride and road feel. I go off the beaten path enough to say not looking to scale mountainsides with it. As long as my wife likes it, who cares ❤
Nissan needs to move on from this generation already, I bought my 2005 Pathfinder 14 years ago and the only reason I still have it is because I refuse to buy that minivan they call a pathfinder now.
I hope the next generation goes back to the old style it should look like the Kia Telluride but with more ground clearance and HP.
DominicanRocker1955 And a proper 4x4 system! With a rear live axle!
@@3vann5567 you should just hope the xterra comes back bc the pathfinders a soccer-mom car to stay.. for better or worse
If Nissan was an electronics company, they’d still be selling VHS.
Let's see how it does on the Ike Gauntlett with a trailer. Will it go up Goldmine Hill?
I really like this new Pathfinder! Only the CVT (curse you Jatco) and maybe it's size (compared to Palisade and Telluride) makes it look bad!
Looks very nice
We own both a R51 and a R52 platinum... never thought I’d say it but I love the R52
Nother great post and review. With the added bonus of being close to the BEST place in the whole dang world, Big Sky. Best skiing, hunting, fishing or a walk around with the Pondo Pine.
Everyone who wants Nissan to take this Pathfinder back to a body on frame design are not even the potential buyers. Of all the vehicles the wife test drove, she choose the Pathfinder, even over my top choice of a 4runner with 3rd row seating. And dare i say, i really like this car as well
basically just an appearance package
I like the look and the space. But how far off the beaten path will it go? Hopefully Y'All can find out.
Great informed review!
i just bought(4-5-19) a 19 pathfinder, i didn't see the rock creek edition in 4x4 otherwise i would have bought one. i really liked the interior the blacked out badges are ok but the look and feel of the interior was great. just didn't get to see one in 4x4.
Got one yesterday. The R51 was getting unreliable.. Sorry to see it go but if I had 4k$, I would go buy it back less than ideal roads. No, its not a SUV, its a crossover now. Its like one review guy said in the video was the feedback from drivers was more stuff and better mileage. Nissan listened and sold more. Its way more comfortable to drive and the wife is complaining about sitting lower than the old Pathy. I got more features than my old one and it will tow 1000 lbs more than my 12.
I did give it a hug before we drove off.
Part of me wishes the Pathfinder was body on frame but part of me knows that is never going to happen. I'd settle for it not being FWD biased and having a traditional automatic instead of the CVT.
I enjoyed this video very informative!
Wonder how tht unreliable cvt gonna behave 😂
I spent a lot of my youth fishing at Rock Creek just off 395 by Tom's Place CA ...
I grew up in bishop...
Like the "Rock Creek" name, that's about it.
I had Rock Creek luggage years ago.
2019 Pathfinder Rock Creek, yes! I would love to see them sell in WV, that would be much better for off roading rather than the other Pathfinder trims IMO!
Chevy Toyota Dude what exactly makes it better at off-roading besides slightly wider tires?
@@RileyAaron90 Well it does have lifted suspension doesn't it?
Chevy Toyota Dude did you even watch the video? It’s just an appearance package.
Chevy Toyota Dude 11:42
@@RileyAaron90 oh I thought it mentioned lifted suspension, tells you how much I pay attention to car vids
Pathfinder what's my favorite vehicle now it looks like something my grandmother would drive Nissan step your game up!
Same engine, same transmission, same body panels. Calling this a looks package would be generous. It basically just badges.
And a hitch. Don't forget the hitch.
@@dchawk81 the same hitch you can get on any other Pathfinder
@@mikethebeast1012 But it's not a Rock Creek hitch. That makes it rugged.
@@dchawk81 true
The sad story of the Pathfinder, from Rock Crawler to Mall Crawler. Both Nissan and Mitsubishi turned their backs on the offroad community with their SUVs. Such a pity.
Why Mitsubishi? We still have the Pajero/Montero which is one of the last breed of true off roaders.
It always amazes me how the reviews cover the comfort and legroom of the second and third rows but they never cover the driver seat I’m someone who is looking to buy and I wanna know how comfortable is the driver seat is there plenty of legroom since you’re 6’2”, it would be really nice to know that
Do you know the website where only front grills can be purchased?
It's nice to see color again on vehicles. The same old lame white, gray, silver, and black colors is so past its prime.
It's almost as if Nissan had too many hitches laying around in a warehouse somewhere and decided to make it a trim level to get rid of them.
I don't want no rockcreek, I want a pro4x Armada with the features the patrol gets overseas
I would still like to see something like Jeeps Trailhawk trim. A Pathy set up for actual off road use.
Nice station wagon
I like the 05 to 2012 platform better I have on 05 and the v6 engine it's like a hangry beast when you hit the pedal and it's as competitive off road as any of today's vehicles, very dated styling and low tech but besides the radiator crackin internally mixing antifreeze whit trans fluid which i replaced whit a full aluminum unit its pretty much bullet proof, maybe nissan should take some notes from this for a new and exciting pathfinder because this new one is not exiting to me it all, can you imagine working on it whit the motor sitting as a front wheel drive or any maintenance for that matter?
The fact that it has a CVT would be a straight NO GO for me. I still dont get why many manufactureres go with CVTs in this kind of cars
No one has come close to competing with the Jeep Trailhawks when it comes to the engineering and effort to make something worthy of an off road trim.
Kudos to Nissan for the 18 inch wheels and resisting the urge to go with 20s or 22s. Even though this is still a light off roader, nobody wants to hit something with rubber band tires! As for the constant moaning about it not being a BOF truck, I remind you the 2nd gen R50 was unibody, and the 2013 sold over twice as many models as the 2012, which itself sold almost as many as the two previous years combined because it was the last BOF Pathfinder. The R51 was good for about 25000 a year in sales. The R52s worst year was 2019, when you had a 6 year old design against many newer designs, including the Telluride and Atlas on the jumbo end, and it still sold 65600. Nissan is in the business of selling cars, and in that context, the R52 makes sense.
On last year's pather finder the suspension really sucks. The rear sag in the springs is dedicculous.
7 f***ing inches of ground clearance?
Don't forget it has a unibody and cvt transmission. This car is such a fail.
@@mrjjthor I know I do not get how Nissan does not invest more in a car that is in a segment with so much demand.
@@camilogomezkeep2324 My guess is that they are trying to attract soccer moms with the mpg ratings rather than off road capabilities. I sure hope Toyota doesn't do the same thing to the 4runner also.
mrjjthor Thor Toyota don’t have to do that because they already have a midsize crossover (highlander) for the soccer mama consumer base. Plus 4Runner sales has increased and it will remain to be sold.
@@DarthNero I sure hope so. There were rumors a few years back about the possibility of the 4runner going with a unibody to help with mpg. I was thinking why, when they have the highlander. I hope they keep it body on frame.
Less chrome is always good. Looks better.
Looks good but I will never buy another CVT vehicle
TFL - THE FORD LOVERS 😊
I thought we were The FCA Lovers. Now I'm confused. Maybe it's Toyota Full-time Lovers? Ooohhh, how about The Ferrari Lovers!? Oh, that's FCA too.
So this rock creek edition is the same thing except for the leather stitching and some rims from Subaru. Sounds like a mini van that a mom or older couple maybe in their 60s or something would buy. The green color is nice but that’s about it. I would rather buy a sienna ( van ) because it’s the rather the same ground clearance and at least it will hold its value way better. Although new vehicles really don’t hold value.
Don’t u love it their built in map still looks like it’s from the 90s. It's soccer mom ready.
I wish the Nissan Terra, a body on frame suv of the Nissan Navara will be sold in the US. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
they could make this cross over 2x better by just increasing rear springs rate by 20%
Trendy...
Bring back the xterra
Im so glad a bought two xterras before they canned it and made this pile of shit. I'll never get rid of my X.
I have an 2001 xterra v6 with 320,000 miles and still going strong. Nissan was never that great of an off road vehicle manufacturer, but the xterra did a decent job of getting you there most of the time. My xterra takes me through snow, rocks, and up step hills here in Northern California.
6,000 lbs is class-leading? I think the Durango might have something to say about that...
Yeah that, and the Durango basically schools this subpar POS they call the Pathfinder in just about every single way.
Mini van class is what we are talking about.
@@SeanDuu Honestly, the Mechanicfinder even sucks at being a "minivan".
MetalAndMotorsGuy506 at least it’s a better minivan than the Quest. They couldn’t even keep it around more than a few years.
@@RileyAaron90 Not by much... but then again, I forgot the Quest existed.
What did they actually do? Like the green paint though
They put a tow package on it. And dark badges.
So like, it's rugged now.
Ready to go to Trader Joe’s instead regular local grocer. That’s about it.
Draw Back:
1. CVT
2. Same old outdated interior. Compare with Pilot, 4Runner, Highlander all of them have updated interior and technology
3. No led for rear
4. Full dashboard is hard plastic. No soft touch.
5. Out dated navigation design and touch pad
6. Steering control seems to be not friendly. Scattered design.
7. Not worth what you pay.
@@TheLouke sorry to say but Pathfinder is the same old bubblegum.
Best in class towing? Isnt the Durango in the same class? 6200 for V6 better than 6000, hemi up to 7400. That's definitly better too..... hmmm
Agreed, bring back body on frame Pathfinder!
Or they could go the RWD Unibody route like what they did with the Dodge Durango or even the 2nd generation Pathfinder.
there is a new terra in asian release?
Car makers need to stop with all these fake “off-road” editions.
Millenials! Pet rock remember that
Fake Skid Plates? No additional Ground Clearance??? Nissan should have named this the “Pebble Creek” Edition.
Give it new frontier engine .all grey seat option too bigger touch screen information systems. Wireless charger too
Why don’t they lift it or at least make the 4wd system better?
Attractive design
The Mallfinder...😔
At least they're honest about it...this is a family car.
Jeep owners are often the ones lying to themselves.
More like a Mechanicfinder if you ask me. I mean, this vehicle's transmission is notorious for failing so why would I pay the same money I can pay for it's competitors which are all superior for this?
@@moviesmetalmusicmotorvehic4828 CVTs are made out of horse poop😒. Well known fact by now.👌
I walked into a Nissan dealer to check out a real 4x4 that was there it was a 2016 4Runner. The salesman wouldn’t budge on the price. He then tried to get me into one of these. I looked at it from a few feet and looked at the salesman and laughed and walked out and bought a new 2019 4Runner brand new from the local Toyota dealership down the couldn’t be happier with it. This is just a glorified mini van with off road badging on it so they can mark the price up. CVTs are proven they simply don’t work off road, they are garbage.
That crossvan has a really low body for off road/camping trips and those tires look like they have 50,000 miles on them. Call it what it is, Nissan. Mallfinder Stock Creek Edition.
Better yet, call it the Mechanicfinder Money Creek Edition. I mean, it even sucks at being what it's supposed to be and that is a family crossover. And that's bad.
I'm w/ you. This is the sadest thing I've ever seen. What soccer mom, Jack hat, special edition is designing this thing?!? And you still have package trims for this thing? BRING BACK THE BODY ON FRAME PATHFINDER! IT WAS A BEAST! HIRE ME! I'LL DO IT!
It’s a good looking vehicle but I do miss the old one.::even more, miss the Xterra
Is it AWD or 4WD?
Love that u did in Montana!!!!!! Love the car as well!!!!
What is the song at the intro?
New wheels, new trim, and new badging. Same old p.o.s!
I'll take my 95 pathfinder over this.
Dirt trail maybe but that’s it. What does rock creek edition supposed to mean if nothing is changed? A name doesn’t change the vehicle itself without actual modifications.
i hope the nissan terra would be the next pathfinder
I guess I should be happy to design another car for Nissan?
I got a Rav4 ad on this video 😆
