I really really wish you would review more fenders and other makers. I feel like your boxed in on Gibson. Broaden out your channel that’s what I’d say. Appreciate the vids!
Magnificent instrument if I might say so myself. Personally speaking, I'd prefer this guitar without the chambering. Now, strangely enough, the chambered bodies do remind me of the 1980's in which there did exist some Gibson guitars including Les Paul Standards and Customs, Flying V's and Explorers that had basswood bodies. I can still remember back in 1986 I picked up a Gibson Flying V in candy apple red and it was as light as a feather, which would mean the guitar had a basswood body. It also reminds me of the 1970's when Ibanez, Maya, Guyatone, Emperador and other Japanese manufacturers used to use veneered particle board for the body and pressed plywood for the top, usually with the Les Paul copies with bolt-on necks. You could tell by tapping on the top of the guitar whether or not the body was actually solid. I have also seen some Ibanez copies having glued necks, yet the same plywood/particle board veneer technique was still used for the body. Better not keep boring you with all this. 'Nuff said.
There was a time when the Les Paul Studio (1983-1985), '84 Style Explorers and '83 Style Flying Vs were made with Alder. The Standards and Customs have not altered from Mahogany bodies (unless you count the pancakes of the early 70s
@@Trog All too true. But nonetheless, the rumours I hear about basswood body LP Standards & Customs still persist. I have been hearing about basswood body LP's from a lot of luthiers and quite a few guys who sell guitars for a living. You probably might come across a basswood body Standard or Custom someday and be surprised. It'd still have the mahogany neck and the maple cap, but the body'd be veneered basswood. Come to think about it, that might have been an experimental run Gibson was making back in the mid 80's before the chambered body idea was floated. Now, you'd have to come across one someday to believe it. And that would be an excellent WYRON sometime in the future.
What is the first song you usually play at the beginning of you playing the guitar. You did it in this one, and it sounds super familiar but I cant quite put my finger on it
If you're talking about the picking of chords, it is simply just that. If you're talking about my chords, this video will help - ruclips.net/video/Q7eme_BVUjY/видео.html
Thats cause the G and C chords have been used on 5 billion songs. What he plays here, sounds like "Every rose has its thorn" by Poison for example. But there are billions of more G and C songs out there.
@@Trog thanks man. I was talking bout the g and c picked chords. Sounded familiar and really nice, so I wanted to see if it went to an actual song. Also, thanks for all the great guitar vids, you fill my need for looking at hella cool guitars that I will most likely never be able to afford till I'm in my like 40s, which is a veryyyy long ways away.
Nice axe, Trog. Agreed that the back goes well with the quilt top. Question: At 12:20, you mention the thin binding at the cutaway, showing the maple top. Is this a mistake from Gibson? I have a 2018 Les Paul Classic Gold Top with the same issue & thought it was a mistake because I saw a late 60's gold top on another video & it did not have this thin binding. After looking at it a bit, I like that the maple top is exposed.
The top quilting is beautiful, undoubtedly, but I think the back should have been much darker - in this video the back appears to be almost a tan brown colour and IMO that distracts significantly from the quilted top.
Personally I prefer a painted back and neck. So I'd like it more if the back was black. Also I would never be able to justify paying $4000 for a guitar just to be a wallhanger. If I'm going to buy a guitar at any price I can't be scared to play it. That being said, it's a beautiful guitar but I don't care for the color red at all. So I wouldn't want it.
I so much agree on the wallhanger part. A guitar must be played, and a wallhanger doesn't need to sound good 😋 Hmmm now I get it why the quality control started dwindling. If only the prices followed suit. And while I love the color, it most definitely doesn't work with gold and brown 🤮 such a missed opportunity there... Simple black hardware and back (or even dark red hey) would make it pop like no other. What's with the golden teeth mentality? I'm not always happy with shiny chrome and would prefer matte on some guitars but gold doesn't work with 99% of the guitars they put it on.
I just followed you on reverb and am your 'one thousandth' follower 🎩🎩🎩🎩 if there is a prize for that I'm partial to the 'fair' double cut (I'm not greedy😉)
Not sure if it is my end digitally filtering the tones , but I don’t love the sound of this LP! Could just be that knowing it’s chambered has given me a different perspective which is unfounded and irrational. Love the top though..
Yowza yowza yowza is she purdy! Normally I don't like such a vast color difference between the front and back but it works in this case, yes it would have been a sin had that back and sides been black!! Gibson makes no sense - it's a 2010 style guitar with a "68 reissue" name applied but resembles a 68 in very few if any ways. What exactly earns this guitar the right to be called a 68 reissue Gibson? I mean I don't care if it is accurate or not it is so gorgeous it's worth buying for that fact alone, but why so different than it's name sake?
This particular style of chambering is great for hiding items in... it is also a modders dream as you could install any kind of switches (or pedals) in this guitar that you'd want!
Adam - good observation. Very similar, but I believe those have the short neck tenon and Nashville style bridge though which would further differentiate these. Dennis - not necessarily. While you are correct that there is a "Florentine" LP out there with the pointy cut, the original Gibson Les Paul Custom Bantam/Florentines from the 90s were essentially just like this, but with F-Holes revealing the chambers.
