You sir are my personal hero. I think the real issue not discussed here: How contentiousness has been replaced by Narcissism. People used to think about how their actions/noise/etc affects others around them. But not anymore! We're now in the "it's all about meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" society... With house sharing becoming more common due to inflation taking root, it's interesting how some simply have Zero clue as to how door slamming affects others. Yet, the same individuals will complain about someones loud aftermarket car exhaust or car stereo.. but when it comes to THEIR actions = zero introspection. It's an interesting topic. Room sharing/renting is like walking on egg shells in a lot of ways because you never know if calling out someone over noise will then lead to you being pushed out of the house, as you just don't know if the door slamming is due to being oblivious, or if it's the narcissism playbook move to drive one to react to it. When I was growing up, it was very crystal clear - you don't slam doors, play music loud, etc in the house, especially at night. Otherwise there would be swift consequences that were long lasting. Nowadays, the parents want to be "besties" with their kids, so they nolonger instill any consequences, boundary enforcement, and god forbid, a sense of contentiousness. Fast forward - those kids are now adults, with child like behavior, and this is what we get - slamming doors and "it's all about meeeeeeeee". Just my "opinion" / hypothesis based upon years of renting rooms in homes, but I'm unwilling to participate in the housing/asset inflation bubble.
I agree. I cannot believe we have to tell grown ups not to slam doors, or not to yell when talking, etc. It makes me wonder what kind of upbringing they had.
@@m.taylor @07wrxtr1's comment is so underrated. I find that I'm highly sensitive to noise and when I tell people not to slam the door they get offended, talking on the phone at high volume makes no sense to me especially when the phone mic is right next to you!
Part of the problem is that some people are forceful with doors, that it boggles my mind as to why they need to yank or shove a door so hard just to close it. Some people even ram their keys hard into keyholes which is absolutely unnecessary.
@AdamiXx mine is almost 30 and do the same thing. My mother has told him before to stop and he does not do it, so I guess he does it in purpose to bother us.
Lol try explaining that to my 19 year old he drives me mad clicking his door handle all times of the night 🤬🤬🤬 I always twist the handle when I close the door...I might just remove the handle completely 🤣🤣🤣
The issue seems to be that people just let the door close behind them on its own. Instead of placing the door shut and making sure it doesn't make any noise by turning the knob, they are just thinking of something else and let the door slam shut on its own completely oblivious to the sound it makes. This is a habit from childhood I think that was never trained out of them. It's a complete blind spot.
With all due respect that didn't solve the issue. It's still noisy. *The issue is ignorance, and/or a lack of consideration for others.* I close all doors behind myself quieter than a mouse farting. At ALL TIMES. A door slamming during the day is also disturbing.
Wish I had you as a neighbour. I live in a unit block.. And in our(my partner and myself) section there are 5 other sets of tenants.. And they are known as the door Slammers.. For the most part. The door Slamming amoungst them varies in sound. Although the last few days now they have been better at not slamming the foyer door.. But they Slam their own doors Full force. I have continuously set the example of closing the foyer door with a gentle click since we moved in.. And closing our door as quiet as a mouse. I thought my example would rub off/influence them.. Not a nudder.. They don't get it.. Pure ignorance. They slam there doors hard.. Oh my they do. I even put a note up about a month ago when I had reaches wits end.. Asking them to "Please Stop Slamming this door" It was actually a paragraph.. Of which 50% of them couldn't be bothered to read. It fell on deaf ears and was removed after 2 hours.. The Ignorance. I admit.. I did word it rather harshly.. I was pissed off.. And included a couple of "Don'ts" in my note. One of the tenants was evicted last week.. Since they have left.. The foyer door slamming has reduced. Also.. I had a hard word with my direct neighbour the other day.. I should have been more assertive with him and should have done it a lot sooner.. But I finally confronted him about his door Slamming. He was totally Oblivious about it.. Clueless that he had been Slamming the door(as his partner and himself have been the worst offenders of the door slamming). When I confronted him he actually back down from me.. Well.. Sort of which I didn't expect. I then showed him how to open and close the foyer door properly.. He wasn't overly impressed by this and ended up walking away from me as I was instructing him.. Though he has now stopped Slamming the foyer door as much..(Ironically while I was speaking my mind to him.. Oh and he's somewhat self entitled and almost posh. He said.. Yes that door does have a rattle to it. Really.. Ya think) He is doing it a lot less now. I think the best way though in approaching fellow tenants is by writing your complaint on paper.. Then putting it in their letter box.. Not under their door. It's passive aggressive Yes.. Oh and be Diplomatic and a bit dramatic about it and Yet to the point. Otherwise contact the real estate. I've just put cardboard under the foyer door frame today to stop the door moving.. As I noticed today someone has secured the top.. And I've added more weather stripping to the top inside part of door frame. Looking at/for solutions rather than frustrations. I'm still trying to understand and comprehend what mind frame these tenants are in that constantly Slam the foyer door and their own door as hard as they can. Anger perhaps. No.. I'm not expecting anyone of the fellow tenants here to bake me a cake to thank me for putting weather stripping on the inside of the door frame or for setting the example everyday of how to open and close a door. We are the only tenants in our section of this unit block that close our front door with a Pop.. A gently Pop.. And a gently click with the foyer door which takes 3 seconds. The other tenants Slam their doors hard. Not to mention the Horrid sound of their dead locks going on.. Mainly my direct neighbour.. They are Paranoid and Lock everything. I Can't stand dead locks.. The idea of being Locked in gives me Anxiety and stress.
I swear to god why do people do that to close doors? I have been living with different roommates that does this. what? the door can't be closed if you don't slam it? fuck sake, people are so inconsiderate. you turn the knob to open the door, why can't you do the same to close it? and even if you complaint about it, they still ain't gonna do shit.

This has worked SO well!! Thank you 😊 we have those horrid hollow doors and by doing this it has reduced the noise by around 80% I’ve tried slamming them like the kids do and even then it’s a million times quieter!
I knew there had to be a good option for this!! Living in apartments I feel so bad closing my doors so we close them so slow and even than they are loud. Will be doing this today!

I'll try and implement some physical changes to the door but I need her to be more considerate too.

Decent solution. But it reduces the sound by about 50-75%. It doesn't help very much against family members that go back and forth between their bedroom and the bathroom about 6 times every morning and slam the doors every single time. 15 times of door slams at 6-7am in the morning gets frustrating. I found that there are these 'ultra-quiet gel pads' and will try to substitute those instead of the felt pads in this solution
