      I love how their love of the sport shines through their commentary. Of course they want to see their compatriots do well, but above all they find joy in seeing their sport performed as well as it can be done. This was a routine for the ages. In the 2008 quad they had to pack more difficulty into a routine than ever before or since, and to perform it without even the slightest wobble was amazing.

  • @carolineprice6618
    @carolineprice6618 4 года назад +29

    I've seen a couple comments alleging that the leaps would incur .300 deductions, this is incorrect. In the 2006-2008 COP (and current COP) the split position had to be more than 20 degrees short of 180 to warrant a 3-tenth deduction, and Shawn's leaps definitely were not THAT off, so they are only .100. This is how I believe the routine should've been scored:
    .1 deep landing on full twist
    .1 switch leap lack of split
    .1 split leap lack of split
    .1 dismount form
    .1 dismount deep landing (.300 if we're being harsh but given the relative scoring in Beijing, I think .100 is fair )
    .1 step
    D score 7.0 + E score 9.4 = 16.400 (16.200 if we're taking .300 on the dismount landing position)

    • @nicholasohren9644

      This is absolutely right. Everyone on here is judging her based on the code now where a GREAT beam routine is only around an 8.2 E score. 2008 quad would have less than a point in deductions, and based on those scores at the time, this was HIGHLY underscored.

      @@Jaycee1200_ No, everyone on here really isn't. She got hit with 0.3 on each of two very low landings (chest in her knees and hands at ankle level), plus 0.1 for the dismount landing step and 0.1 for each of two split positions, and she's at 16.000 with ZERO other deductions (like the LOSO flexibility or landing dismount with legs apart, for example). She started from 16.900 due to beginning the turn with her free leg a tad low.

    • @turbojon8117
      @turbojon8117 10 месяцев назад

      @@gracemon2oe Why trust a stranger on the internet just because they're confident? Caroline doesn't even have the start score correct, and there's simply no way the judges could justify taking only 0.1 on those two deep landings when she landed with her chest in her knees and her hands either *BELOW* the beam or at ankle level. They each certainly incurred 0.3 because a person cannot physically land any lower than Johnson did without putting her hands and/or knees down, therefore the judges have no choice but to take the maximum penalty which was 0.3 at the time. For both the standing full (lands with her hands below the beam which you can actually see in real time) and the dismount (again -- chest in her knees and hands level with her ankles).

Meanwhile her hands were BELOW the beam when she landed the standing full and her chest was nearly touching her knees, with the dismount landing being nearly a carbon copy. All that to say, 0.3 body posture deduction on *both* landings, plus 0.1 for the step on dismount and 0.1 for landing with legs apart ... not to mention the flexibility deductions, which even if you only take 0.1 on each split position that puts her at 9.000 + 6.900 = 15.900

    Perfect acrobatics but I lost interest when the Americans took over, bulked up and sacrificed ballet for tumbling; the Romanians and Russians balanced the two beautifully.

      I agree. Nowadays gymnasts até great acrobats, but they can't dance tô sabe theys lives. It is just jump trick trick and some shaking hands. The floor routines lost any connection with the music.

    As perfect a this routine is ...there are deductions...... Her standing back full she lands with her chest low......her lack of flexability and her low landing on the dismount and the step

    I wish the american commentators were this positive! Listening to the americans is painful, they are so negative and always looking to see whats wrong, speaking doubt, its just obnoxious and dramatic, Im all for the british commentators!!

    Imho the bigger deductions would have come from her split leaps, which were sub 180, one of them noticeably so. Also could have taken a bit from the low chest height on landing the tuck full or the full-in? And a tenth for spite bc Shawn Johnson is too much of a G...
