A 21 y/o or so man who sat in front of me did not know wrasslin was fixed at an event I went to decades ago. It was funny to watch as he slowly smartened up over the course of the evening. He was sitting slumped in his seat with his head down at the end when he realized that his Santa was not real. It would have been sad if it was a child, but this was a grown man.

It's a large part why there isn't sentimental value to the Super Bowl rings for the players as well-- it never made sense to me that players would sell the ring, forget/lose the ring, so many different red flags that never added up until you think about the fact they never built a sentimental attachment to it because they didn't actually earn it. They thought they were going to earn it and yet that outcome was already pre-decided.

The 07 Suns got robbed. He loved San Antonio so he made sure they advanced, it’s one of his favorite cities. I think this came to light in 2007. Initially he testified that he did this on behalf of the NBA, but then later recanted that statement and took the fall. Less than 2 months out of federal prison, he purchased a $750,000 house presumably from hush money. The NBA/NFL brief officiating crews on preferred outcomes as several have come forward and admitted this.

Take this guys version of events with a grain of salt, not saying he’s lying but there’s very conflicting stories.
“On the other hand, what Battista remembers most about that meeting was that Donaghy and Martino -- lifelong friends by all accounts -- dragged Battista to a gas station convenience store so they could buy rolling papers and share a joint in the backseat of Battista's Honda. (Donaghy's version is that Martino bought "a ChapStick or something.")
It wasn't so strange that they'd be relaxed together, and not just because of the drugs (for his part, Battista says he was on Percocet, OxyContin and cocaine at the time, and skipped the marijuana). Battista and Donaghy were not close, but the three in the car were hardly strangers. They had attended high school together at Cardinal O'Hara in the 1980s. In the months prior, Battista says he gave Martino valuable NFL picks for Donaghy to bet on. Battista says Donaghy thanked him with a signed Kobe Bryant jersey.
By the time they were in the Honda, Battista had known for years, through gambling contacts, that Donaghy was betting on NBA games, including games he refereed.”
