    • @davidhutch307

      Yes but in a hypothetical world where no referee scandal existed..... Players and fans would be having this exact same conversation because we're conditioned to think that any human decisions are corruptible. I wouldn't be shocked if a league wide referee scandal existed, but I don't think there's enough proof out there to say that it's likely. We have some massive, reputable news organizations in this country that would love nothing more than to break this story.

    There's a step before all that, and that is: hold the refs accountable, make them answer to the media, ask them questions about specific calls like they ask the players after every game. The problem right now is that nobody's allowed to question the refs or call out their mistakes and that's a position of power, that leads them to behave like they do and call techs on every complaint

I.e 2005 first round series rockets vs dallas where he claimed he was told by the league to call more fouls on yao specificly on screens to ruin the rockets pick and roll game. Some say it was because of mark cuban whining, some say it was to extend the series. You also have that thing about not giving allen iverson fouls and try to ruin games for him and antagonize him. • @SilverSpectre266
    @SilverSpectre266 11 месяцев назад +42

    Cheating from referees will never stop because the NBA doesnt allow people within the organization to talk about it.
    Any NBA player, or personnel that is remotely associated with the organization, even if they are an "analyst" on one of the many broadcast shows, are not allowed to outright talk about it or else they could be fined or their parent company could risk being blacklisted from anything associated with the NBA. Thats why whenever you DO hear someone talking about the league, be it a former player or something they are doing it with their own personal podcast that isnt NBA affiliated. But players are not allowed to challenge, question, or even bring up tampering by the refs otherwise they will face fines and penalties. Even when Mark Cuban tried to bring up tampering, the analyst were quick to cover it up and say it wouldnt have mattered either way if the challenge had been called or reversed. And he was later fined for it too. The fact that refs have the only say and cannot be questioned is insane. Even when you have one challenge play, its almost never called, and when it is how likely is the decision to be reversed? Not very.
    Bottom line, you should be allowed to challenge ref calls. Until then the problem will always exist.

    It’s been ruled in court that Sports Entertainment businesses such as the NBA and NFL have no legal or contractual obligation to put on a “competitive” product. Their only contractual obligation is to provide a game or “event” for the ticketholders and advertisers to be party to. Technically they could rig every game and predetermine every outcome like a dance recital without any legal repercussions. And now that sports betting is legalized, you can guarantee they are rigging outcomes to maximize profits from betting bc they know they won’t get into any legal trouble for doing so…

    Gil's explanation is very believable. I doubt enough people will careless until their favorite team loses by a bad call. We got all the conspiracy theorists and skeptics complaining about rigging, yet the NBA is thriving as if these people don't exist. These people are wasting their time trying to convince people why they shouldn't watch the NBA. It's like telling people who eat McDonalds how bad their food is. People consume whatever the hell they wanna consume. People watch what they wanna watch. It's not that people don't know how bad things are...they just don't care as long as they are entertained. It's pretty much empty logic at this point.

    The problem is that the NBA itself also has an interest in creating certain outcomes. While day of notice will definitely keep the gamblers and bookies out of it, but there is nothing to stop the front office from putting their thumb on the scale. Also, personal grudges like the Scott Foster situation are going to screw teams too.

      Not to mention, having refs regional can be seen as them being hometown refs and having biases. The NBA wants refs to be seen as neutral and not favoring teams. Regional refs will create a whole new dynamic to the outcome of games and make the refs living in a certain area more liable to favoring the home team since their own economic interests are local.
