The SilverFire Hunter ... tinyurl.com/m96...
A way cool Top Lit Updraft Gasifier (TLUD) that requires no power. It is a lightweight, portable natural draft chimney stove designed for both indoor & outdoor use! The ability to cook indoors under shelter is a key advantage over stoves without chimneys.
Envi blocks found at bio-div.com/our...

I bought one and it's been sitting there for a month waiting for me to start it; I'm going to give it a try today now that I've seen you do it. Thanks!
I've had mine for 2+ years and STILL haven't fired it; it's so shiny I hate to dirty it up! With the shtf election fast approaching, this video has motivated me to order a pallet of envi blocks in the event I'm finally forced to tarnish my 'purty stove.
so how can you use this inside - if when you start it up - all the emissions come out the top of the unit UNTIL you put the pot on it? wouldnt that create a hazzardous situation?
the hunter t-lud Top-loading Updraft stove has a 3" pipe and would be safer to use indoors. It is a gassifier stove as well.
You can purchase a heavy duty plate to fit over the burning area from the Silverfire people. That way you can use it to percolate coffee or use a smaller non-cast iron fry pan. You can also buy an extender so you can run the stove pipe up a wood burning stove chimney and have it set up outside your wood burning fireplace. We love ours.
If it can be installed indoors, what are the clearences for the vent pipe? Most appliances require a double wall "b" vent. I think its a great alternative idea don't get me wrong. I'd like to install an alternative heat supply in my basement but venting becomes an issue. Any thoughts?
From all of the RUclips videos I've watched, you need to close the bottom vent almost completely while cooking to get the most efficient and longest burn.
The Silver Fire line of stoves has really taken a hold of the prepper community lately. I've seen a few videos now and the owners all love them. Thanks for the review, I think Silver Fire has got my vote.
Eng775, neat little stove. It has got me wondering though....does anyone make a permanent fixture device for a home? Say, something akin to a "parlor" style stove that uses this gasification principle. Something that could be used for winter heating and cooking?
+flysubcompact Look into "cubic" or "traveler"...traveler does not have secondary (I don't believe)air but nice stile if mods could be made it would be very nice. Dang Kimberly price went through the roof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if could only get one would it be the hunter or the supper dragon
A link to the Stove is provided in the video description.
I saw that you also did a video review on the Silverfire Survivor. Do these stoves serve the same purpose? If I were to get only one stove for both hunting trips and off-grid preparedness, which would you recommend?
Awesome stove I will be getting on or two of them. I also found a simular compressed wood fuel called Gren Heat blocks at a local feed barn for $6.25 for 20 blocks, but also has a pallet of them available.
Todd is the man. Wait until you try the Silverfire Super Dragon. all are fantastic designs.
Looking forward to it LBP! Thanks.
This stove's usefulness is kind of limited because you have to always use large pots and pans.
That is one nice stove. so clean burning.i like that.thank you take care
...one little detail that I noticed about the stove is that the stovepipe pieces each have a number imprinted in the metal so it is easy, when assembling, to get them in the right order.
Got my Hunter in the mail. Here is my experience - I have done 2 burns so far. Used 1 gallon of water and had it up to a boil twice at 20 minutes without a lid. I filled the stove with chunks of Lodgepole Pine. The chunks were similar in size to what folks use in gasifiers. I had some kindling and paper on top for the light up. After I got the boil going, I put a glass lid on it so I could keep tabs on it. After about an hour and change, I lost the boil, so I put a couple of small kindling pieces to get the fire going again, because all I had was large coals at the bottom. Then I realized that I needed to open the air supply just a crack and it took back off and quickly returned to a boil. I lost the boil at about the 2 and a half hour mark, so I had an effective boil for over 2 hours. Very impressed. Now it is time to actually cook something on in. Thinking about stew in a dutch oven.
Do you use the stove indoors and do you think it would hear a small room? 😊👍
I'm impressed with both the gasifier and the wood chip block, they really seem to work well. Where do you get wood chip block from?
There are two links in the description for the envi-8 block.
Scott, what a Creative way to Cook spaghetties, you are a real chap, a man who knows to live! Its a real pleasure to watch your videos and to learn from it. i will buy this silverfire Stove for sure and tell you how my next pastas are.
Keep on the good work and most of all keep your Humor. the world needs people with a good Sense of laugh and a good Appetite.
Cheers
Kay
Try a Swedish Torch with larger logs inside.
does it give off enough heat to use as an indoor garage heater?
Nice video as usual cool stove. 775 I'm wanting to build off grid camp on 5 acker's I have in n ga mts. want harvested rain water for water and was thinking of solar but am reluctant to leave expensive panels up, while gone area has reputation of stough walking off, any suggestions?
You might have to uses a portable solar system you can setup when you need it or once you are there install the panels.
Does the stove come with a cover plate so you don't have to keep a pot of water on it all the time?
It does not but any metal plate will work.
This has to be my only criticism with the stove. I'm using it in a tipi so managing the smoke and flame that does not go out of the chimney is a big concern. Otherwise it's outstanding! :)
+Ashton Sheppard Only?? Pain to keep clean if no vac cleaner in your teepee. Have to unhook chimney every day maybe twice, take outside dump out ash put together again and hope pipe still in place when you get back.
I have not found cleaning it to be a big chore.
This is impressive engineer775 Practical Preppers. I've been keeping an eye on these these stoves and I'm looking forward to getting one shortly. I have a really cool idea with what I'm going to do...I think you'll like it! :-) Good video, I like that brick too.
+Wayne Meador How did you idea workout??? I am thinking a pail/kettle filled with lava rock on top.
So many of my favorite people on here have the Silverfire, they are not just funtional but also very attractive. I'll have one someday, LOL if not I'll just try to make due with something I can build.
Awesome! I'm pretty sure I want this stove. Thanks for posting the review.
I'll put that in my fireplace
Hi, Liked you vid. My question is, "does the soot on the boil pan come from the stove"? Thank you.
I would like to see this run on charcoal. CO phase burn would be interesting.
Charcoal should not be a problem. I will run some of mine when I get a chance.
Great videos and great information - thanks for posting this - most excellent!
That wasn't indoors ...do you think this stove would heat a room or is the box to insulated ? (Double skin) thanks 😊👍
Nice Product. How hot was the stove. Could it be used as a heater in a small hunting cabin.
It is very hot but the lid opening needs to be covered except for loading wood. It is a cooker and not a heater but you could get creative by heating things on it the will in turn radiate heat in the cabin like soapstone.
Looks GREAT! How much are they?
Can you use the wood pellet?
they seem to work great jnul0 uses his all the time and there is a really nice pot that fit it to heat the whole pot not just the bottom
How do you use this inside a tent or a small space heater. I Would love to see a video or know if that's possible
Ambient temp? Ease of cleanout?
Leaf logs would be best since its abundant and people would simply give it away imo for budjet strapped or innovative post collapse strategy. Having the chimney, i would wrap it with a water coil and pipe to either radiant heating grid or hot water supply.
A large open flame inside a living space has building questions to as the best method.
With the acid of gassification what does the product do to reduce the premature death of the unit?
So what ended up being a total burn time on the envi 8 compressed block. Just curious ..thx kevin
ARe you not suppose to close the bottom air vent after the fire starts roaring full speed? Think your wood would last much longer
This stove would be ideal for a 4 man tipi type shelter. (pick your own brandname) It simple to set up, has a very small footprint and is very easy to reload.
wish i had one
I have one at home, am satisfied, easy to start a fire in , boils your water and food in no time..But even with clean, dry wood it does produce some smoke..
You could hook that flue to a rv refrigerator and have free refrigeration and cook some food
Can this be used as a space heater or is it just for cooking?
How did you light this? you missed that part in the video. Do you have to put everything in the top? I thought rocket stoves were designed to be fed and lit from the lower side.
How much heat does it throw off? could it warm a really large room like a traditional wood burning stove?
just trying to decide between this and the survivor... gah... i think this one is it, due to the fact it can safely be used indoors easier than the other one,
This would work great for hot water bath and pressure canning.
Not a bad price I thought it would be more I want it for my wall tent the one I have now works awesome but it a real pig to pack around
Fast forward eleven months, and what do ya know? Tis the season again, ye ha.
I'm gonna have to get one of these!!!!!!
Are you saying you can have this stove inside your home inside?
Hi Engineer, nice rig. How many btu`s do you figure that stove produces? I wonder if it would make a decent space heater in my 10x10 work shed? I can probably do my maple sugaring on that.
I boiled 5 liters of water in 10 minutes with a delta T of 152 so I calculate 10000 BTU/hr.
smaller pot looks okay though, jim in oregon
Yep, the soot on the big post was not from the Hunter.
hi - I was trying to get hold of one of these in the UK but the shipping is prohibitively expensive :-(
from what I understand from the Silverfire people there are no patents on this stove so it would be great if you could maybe supply a run-down on its features so I can replicate it here in the UK?
I'd obviously then owe you a favour :-) :-)
+PrayForWales You can get cheap copies from amazon UK for £115 mate.
+Del Lawrence yes mate - I've bought two - I'm going to drill the rivets out of one and do a full expo on how to make one yourself from cheap and easily available materials - my best guess is that you can closely approximate the function for about £15 materials and about 2 hours build time :-)
+PrayForWales Cool, I look forward to seeing it.
+PrayForWales Wish somebody would make a Kimberly or Katidid knock off. The Traveler looks nice but no secondary burn I don't believe.
understand than,,, great job on the video!!!!
Is there a way to use this cook stove as a space heater for a small cabin?
So where there's smoke there is fire but not always the other way around? I hope this isn't a dumb question but how is it there is no smoke coming out of the chimney? I'm sure it has to do with this gasification you speak of but I'm ignorant as to how it works. Nice stove.
Gasification is extremely clean and so that is why you see no smoke. Burning dry wood is also the key to a clean burn.
nice thanks for the share
To bad no ash pan since has a chimney to mess with to empty ashes.
One of the best stoves I own!
WHAT IS THE ACTUAL MATERIAL IT IS MADE OUT OF????
THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDS....
Stainless Steel and you are welcome.
As the Hunter is two and a half pounds heavier than the SilverFire Survivor rocket stove, which would you select for use with a 50% base camp / 50% relocation camp paradigm?
Thank you for the education and effort.
Either. sorry that is vague. I would choose both. leave one at the base and the other at the relocation. They both work great.
lots of soot on the pot,,, not a indoor stove
The soot is not from this stove. It is a pot that I keep outside for various tests. Sorry for the confusion.
love to cook a good irish stew on that....
How hot does the outside get when the pot is on it?
Did you get the wok with the stove? the wok fits tight onto the hole, works really well.
Seen it used on another youtube channel
I need to try that. I have a wok that might just fit it.
How much wood does this require? Compared to a rocket stove?
It is still a rocket stove and it requires just slightly less wood than the other rocket stoves on the market.
engineer775 Practical Preppers Thank you.
close the vent though
Fantastic.
Hey 775 ... any chance of your doing a drafting pump. like firefighters draft water to their pumps. moving water from a pond may become very handy ! Thank You.
Excellent subject and one I will work on.
T Y ... long time fan.
does this radiate any heat out for say a double purpose stove to heat your tent as well as cook?
I would heat water on top and let it radiate or even stones to place around the tent but not open. It needs to exhaust up the chimney.
Hello: That's a great little stove. Have a Good One
Thank you sir!
I think it Would work inside a fireplace
Absolutely!
How hot do the sides of the Silverfire get?
too hot to touch but not radiating a lot of heat.
Hi, is there a cover plate for the top?
Any, metal plate, sacrificial pot, pan will work
Thanks, it just looked like it was recessed for a specific piece. Using a big pot with the lid on would make more sense as it would throw out more heat anyway. :-)
